I am writing another review only because I’ve given the place good reviews in the past but the last time we visited I said I’d not return due to the service. As the food is very good we did visit again for a lunchtime take out as Perranporth was very quiet the week after Easter and no many places open. We ordered two fish and one chips and ask for the chips to be shared with each fish. It was absolutely no problem and the lad serving was really polite and so were the rest of the staff. The food is in all honesty one of the best tasting fish and chips you’ll find in Cornwall, old fashioned tasting. Not the biggest fish but it was thick and the chips were great. So I review honestly as I find, and I am fair enough to say this visit was really good and the food delicious. I will return again.

We chose this place in Perranporth as we wanted chippy for dinner and didn’t find anywhere else locally open. I have to say even though the staff are friendly I found the food sizes and quality to be average.

Just had to say worst chips ever, dry and hard they went in the bin , although did have a battered sausage and that was very nice

Popped into pickwicks on our trip down. We come in every year and always enjoy our visit. Prices have increased a fair bit, expected in the circumstances. Same staff as always which makes it feel more traditional (minus the sweet “pretty” boy that always used to serve us on the front counter and in the cafe, I believe he’s gone now but his brother is still there). Would love to see the place have a bit of a makeover however, to keep up with modern aesthetics. Other than that a very pleasant visit. Dogs are also welcome I believe (if they’re well behaved)

The fish was wonderfully fresh, with a light and tasty batter. The battered red was a particular favourite with my son, who hasn't been able to get this since he was living in Scotland!. Several of us had the sausages which were also a good size and very tasty. The chips were delicious! There were 15 of us eating, so to produce all the food hot and fresh for us was no mean feat! We can't recommend it highly enough!

My partner and myself are local too the area and had a before lunch appt. We were hungry so walked down too pickwicks it was early about 11:25 so we thought that it would be the case of being turned away. We understood and came back at 11:45 as asked as that’s when they stop breakfast. We understood we took a little walk. All was well. The two staff members were both cold and looked as if we were inconveniencing them. We ordered some cheesy chips, battered sausage, cod and a non battered sausage. The disappointing part was the chips were still rather hard and crunchy and not very well drained so incredibly greasy. The battered sausage was nice. But the fish was small and the batter fell away from the fish and was soggy on the underside. Curry sauce was okay. Non battered sausage was for the dog so we can’t comment. It came too £25. I wouldn’t have been worried about paying this if the quality of the food was good, but it just wasn’t so the price isn’t justified. I always remember this being a fab chippy but our lunchtime experience wasn’t up too par and the staff members were cold and made no effort too make us feel remotely welcomed infact rather unwelcomed. Such a shame. Perhaps they pop on happy faces for dinner service rather than lunch.

In new to the area my mum has lived here 25 years I’ve been here 9 months and my experience with Andy the owner and his fabulous assistant were welcoming friendly which I don’t get a lot as I have a southern accent and can be made to feel unwelcome but NOT in this case felt very welcomed and the food was food I ordered was second to none thank you Andy and his amazing assistant who’s name I forgot even though we had a real good chat SORRY good work alll round thank you

Looking forward to getting some abuse of Basil Fawlty when I next visit. I hope I get some rude Basil like treatment. To be honest I haven't eaten in this restaurant (Chippy) a few times. Always found the service good and friendly. I must have a face that Basil likes. Please next time I visit can you be rude please 😂 unfortunately I have never had to complain when eating in the restaurant before.

Our usual monthly visit to be entertained by our old friend Basil sorry Andy. Not as rude as normal but still same poor service and expensive tiny portions. We only go here to watch the show that Andy provides free of charge - from insulting customers waiting for takeaway to being generally rude in his restaurant l. The best part of doing these revues is his replies - Andy I’ll save you some time in doing your reply now Fake news Our prices are fair and not changed in 18 months We are not rude This never happened you are making it up I’m sure Andy will find a new insult for me ,after all he’s got plenty to say in reply to the reviews.Andy if you put as much effort in improving your reputation as you do in your unprofessional rude replies you could turn your low rating round ! Very expensive!!! And the staff were very rude. The fish and chips were very greasy and we didn’t get a lot for the price. I truly wouldn’t ever go there again.

Fish and chips x 2 expensive! But that’s fine, as we’re actually ok. What I have an objection to and can only re illiterate previous comments - was the rudeness!!!! Can I have them open please - no they have to be wrapped. Can I add my own salt and vinegar - so we don’t allow that - not since Covid. Waiting, which was ok as they were being cooked fresh - ‘told to wait outside’ they had a tannoy system! 😂😂 After waiting and feeling cold, returned back in after 10 or so mins to be told need to go back outside - I said I would wait. Told well this isn’t yours?!?! But it was! Then asked if the fork was in the back - questioned - you want a fork?????? 😂😂 which was handed by tongs!!! So ok - Covid is still around but why is it ok for you to handle my food without gloves and without using a mask?!!!!! Not very nice people at all and certainly didn’t deserve my £20!!!!!

Greasy, over cooked dry fish. The fish was so dry inside. It was swimming in grease. It was super expensive and not a lot of food for it. A regular portion of chips was so small a child would have still been hungry. Wish we would have gone elsewhere now. So gutted as was craving this since we got here.

The first thing that was said to us was ‘don’t serve just chips only set menu’ in a very rude tone. We explained we wanted meals and then we’re treated very differently. However the portion size was absolutely shocking and very very pricey. The hilarious part of our experience was seeing so many people turned away simply because they wanted some chips.. at a chippy 😂 One lady said ‘I don’t like fish, I just fancied some chips’ and the lady serving her actually said in a horrible tone ‘well we do sausages and pies’. They turned away two ladies with prams saying there was no room.. yet we were sat there with a pram! Go here for the comedy as we thought it was great 🙈 Never seen such rude service in all my life. Have to see it to believe.

Absolutely horrible experience, awful customer service. they don’t know how to greet or talk to customers, constant shouting in mine and my husbands face and using aggressive and threatening language. locked customers inside the shop and didn’t even bother to hear us out instead just kept walking away from us as well as him putting his hands in our faces. they also locked us out and closed the shop at 2pm when closing time is 7pm since they didn’t have even the slight bit of decency to have a conversation with us as well as the fact that they kept lying to us both him and the other woman there. i would never recommend anyone to go here and be disrespected the way me and my husband were especially since we were only here for a couple of days and shouldnt have been treated the way we were at all since we were nothing but calm and respective towards them. absolutely shocked by this since all other shops near them are so sweet and kind. But this is the one place i would recommend no one to go to as they have no respect for anyone. They are straight up rude and racist as well as very unprofessional and unhelpful.

The best fish and chips EVER! Super quick service and eaten out of the paper on the sea front. Perfect!

Shocking. Awful customer service. We were a table of 10, and were seen as an inconvenience. The place was empty but we couldn't pick a table so we could all comfortably sit together. We were told we were picky because we asked for swaps to be made to our breakfast. Rude. Grubby. Bad smell and would not recommend.

Average chips, sausage disgusting and dry. Chucked out to wait for food despite shop being empty. It appears locals can wait inside however outsiders have to wait outside for food. Horrendous customer service.

Visit once a month just to do a review ! As usual Andy was rude to fellow customers, the food over priced and if poor quality. Read through all the reviews and the wonderful replies from Andy then you get an idea of how he treats his customers. I’m sure he will reply to this review with some personal insult or rude remark - Andy it’s worth it just for the reply and seeing you once a month trying to work out who we are ! See you soon

My partner our daughter and myself visited Mr Pickwicks for breakfast as my partner has fond memories of visiting as a child. It was a most enjoyable experience, the food was of good quality, the portions just the right size and not greasy at all. The lady who served us and the man (I think the owner) were when we got talking to them lovely and were nice and friendly talking about the town and there grand kids. We will be returning to try the beef dripping fish and chips before we go.

Extremely small portion size for a medium portion of chips. I wish I had taken a photo of the miniscule portion. Definitely much less than is offered in other local fish and chip shops choices. As a local I won't be returning....Will try nearby Brown's in Tywanhayle Square next time.

Tried to attend this restaurant to order a "take-away" meal of fish and chips on Friday 9th July (approx 6pm). The serving counter was about 2 feet into the building and I was asked by the server if I could put a mask on. I declined saying that I had a medical exemption. He rudely told me it didn't matter as no mask, no service. I asked him for his name and the trading details of the shop as this was discrimination. Both were refused. Then an older gent shouted over at me from the restaurant area saying "We don't have to give you any details." I could have cried as this was so upsetting. I left and took some pictures of the shop.My family and I ended up going a few shops down to another fish and chip shop that had an outdoor counter (which made me feel more comfortable) and had a really lovely fish & chip supper. Was told by the staff there that they'd had a lot of customers come to them after having similar experiences with Pickwicks :(I'm sorry to say that I think the owner is very ignorant in regards to the guidelines on mask wearing, exemptions and discrimination. There are links on the Direct.gov.uk to help businesses be more understanding.Maybe a outdoor counter would be an advantage as not to lose customers whilst adhering to Government guidelines? Just a suggestion...

Walking through Perranporth the wife and I decided a Fish and Chips lunch was order of the day so we popped in for a leisurely 'sit down' lunch. This establishment is very 'Covid 19 aware' with tables spaced and a requirement for masks to be worn up until the order has been placed, and good on management for ensuring the safety of customers and employees alike. Ordered standard size Cod & Chips with Mushy Peas for self and a small Cod & Chips for the missus with a Pot of Tea for two. Arrived in good time, piping hot and looking very appetising. Demolished with gusto and enjoyed immensely I can only describe what we received as good old 'traditional Fish and Chips', crunchy batter and tasty chips, not dripping in grease but done 'real proper'. I will gladly travel for Fish & Chips of the calibre we enjoyed on our visit so have no hesitation in recommending 'Pickwicks' as a 'proper Fish & Chippy. We will certainly call again.

Didn't have food was spoken to by a rude young lad saying you can't order we open in 5 minutes even though scampi takes 15mins to cook.The place looks nice but not going in somewhere spoken too like that

Waited for the longest ‘5 minutes’ - (more like 25 minutes) to get extra greasy, disappointingly bland chips. If you want nice chips, try somewhere else

Portions are tiny and the fish looked like a frozen oven portion from a supermarket, at £37 for two adult meals served by a bloke with an attitude I found the whole experience depressing and couldn't wait to leave.After growing up in the area I love to support local but these are not prices or the quality you would expect from a local Cornish business, this business model is aimed purely at maximum profit mimimum effort. I dont usually do reviews but seeing the owner took the time to talk down to me I thought I would return the favour.

Waited an hour for this place to open. Very rude owner let us in and told to check our temperature. When he see my wife’s exemption refused to let us in. We offered proof of double jab and Covid passport plus told us to F@@@ off. Behind us he refused entry to a family with a baby in a pushchair for not wearing a mask He was very aggressive and threatening won’t be going here again

Our family were extremely unfortunate do stumble along this monstrosity of an establishment. We left due to awful attitude. The owner is very arrogant, he is breaking the law (exempt? Over 2? Still have to wear a mask) although we have no problem putting a mask on. Very discriminating. I have took it upon myself to take to social media and news papers due to the unbelievable service. Unfortunately we didn't check the Google reviews otherwise we would have skipped to the next chip shop.

Very disappointing F&C supper. We ordered a large fish with chips but it was a regular size piece of cod for £8+ While the quality of the cod was very good, the chips were super greasy and a small portion. All in all not what we expected from a chippy rated the best in Perranporth.

A fantastic breakfast at Pickwicks. There were 10 of us and 3 dogs. Staff were very accommodating and efficient. Despite the large number of us (spread over 2 x tables) all food came out fresh and hot. Lovely pot of tea too! Temperature taken on entrance, hand gel available and asked to wear masks until food ordered. All perfectly reasonable to keep themselves and customers safe. We all concluded it was excellent food and service.Thank you

We opted for the smaller fish an£ chips as it was lunch. Served with a pot of tea for two. Thoroughly enjoyable with lovely friendly staff. Temperature taken as you go in, sanitizer for your hands and wear your mask until you are seated. Safe and clean.

We visited Pickwicks yesterday and were not disappointed. As a family with a young baby I was really pleased to see that Covid-19 was being taken so seriously - temperatures taken on arrival to restaurant and mask wearing until your order has been taken, which took around 3-5mins, so no time at all. I felt very reassured here and safer than I have in other restaurants where I’ve sometimes felt that people thought Covid had disappeared. Once our food was ordered, there wasn’t a long wait at all & all our food arrived together. The food was delicious and enjoyed by all of us. We had taken our dogs in with us and found the staff very welcoming to them too. We had a lovely chat with the staff & owner and a good laugh, which I felt made our visit even moreenjoyable. We always make sure Pickwicks is on our holiday itinerary every year and we will be sure to return next time we are in Perranporth. Thank you Andy and all your team for a safe and enjoyable visit

Wow. Just wowI came in on Wednesday and it’s taken me two days to get my breath back, I’m speechless by how amazing my battered fish was and glorious chips. Was served by a lovely chap named Tom who was chatty and nice, even considering it was busy and he was most likely run down. Things like this just make you realise how much one person’s attitude can affect you. I will be returning, 100 percent

This is my second review for this chippy. I left this one as a few years later it is still doing great fish and chips. The chips are the really old fashioned proper tasty kind too. Worth waiting for to takeaway.

We went here for a breakfast date and were not disappointed! The best breakfast we’ve ever had ….. freshly cooked to order using local ingredients, griddled rather than fried and served by very friendly helpful staff! We will be returning for more!

Had to wait 10 minutes or so as the food here is cooked to order, but it was well worth the wait. Great fish and chips and plenty of it too. Friendly staff who were busy but still had time for to give me some advice on nearby parking. Wish this chippy was nearer to my home.

Had a fish n chip lunch today (28th May ) at this restaurant. Food was good and about the right size portions. Staff were very friendly , would definitely recommend a visit to Pickwicks if you are in the area

This was a reasonable place to eat but over the years the food is poor and the service is worse. Rude staff and very average food.Such a shame to see a once good food shop to be somewhere we would never step over the door again.

My first time back at Pickwicks since early 2017, and having read the reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect.Pickwicks has always been my favourite Cornish fish and chips restaurant - possibly my favourite outright, so I was really not looking forward to visiting based on recent reviews, BUT I had to see for myself.Having spent 9 months down here in the autumn/winter of 2016/17, I bought dinner from Pickwicks pretty much every night. I am a bigger guy, consuming probably twice as much as most men, but could never finish a portion back then.The food is still delicious, freshly prepped and hot (even after walking back to the beach car park in the middle of December). I'm glad that I ignored a lot of the recent reviews with the intent of making up my own mind.Next time I'm back in Cornwall, I'll definitely come back to Pickwicks.

These chimps need a lesson in customer service . Got barked at when we entered to eat in the restaurant and told to wait outside . Eventually we were allowed in and after around 40 mins we got our food . The portions were tiny and the oil they used was dark and dirty and very very greasy . When we got the bill it was over £50 for 2 adults and 3 kids seemed a bit excessive especially as the quality of food was so Low.I had a chat with a local and he said since the new owners have taken over its now being run into the ground . I would not recommend coming here

Ordered fish and chips to have on the beach. Food is cooked to order so there is a slight wait. The place is covid friendly and operate on a one way system, enter through one door and out the other and only 1 set of customers in the shop at any one time.Price is average. We went for a mixture of sausage and code bites and chips. They were all very nice. Would definately visit again.

What’s better than sitting on the benches looking at the sea and eating fish and chips. Lovely quality would highly recommended

I am not one to complain but I just need to share with you the awful experience I had at this place today.Both myself and my husband are exempt from wearing face masks as we have breathing difficulties and as a result I also suffer from anxiety and panic attacks.I understand that shops are entitled to politely ‘request’ that customers wear face masks on their premises, but in this case I was directly refused service entirely due to my ‘hidden disability’ not only that it was done in an extremely rude and discourteous manner. I would be very interested to know if he would also refuse entry to someone in a wheelchair or someone of ethnic origin and whether he would deem this as acceptable behaviour.We are currently away for a birthday weekend and I can honestly say my experience at this establishment has certainly put a dampener on our celebrations, which is a shame in such a beautiful part of the country.I must add that after being turned away from Pickwicks we were welcomed across the road in The Cove where we enjoyed a beautiful breakfast in comfort unhindered and unchallenged.I certainly will not be recommending this establishment and furthermore on our return home I will be seeking legal advice over the matter as I am pretty sure this persons actions are illegal under the Discrimination Act 2010.

The owner is an extremely rude man, particularly unhelpful and is an embarrassment. The food is greasy and barely hot and the restaurant is tired and doesn't feel particularly clean.I used to go there years ago every year but it has totally gone down hill and I will never visit again.

Lovely traditional breakfast! 6 of us all were happy. Covid rules were tight however we saw that as professional rather than awkward. Go for Hogs rather than black pudding.

Had a terrible experience here whilst on our holiday. Pickwick's was recommended to us so we went for breakfast. The woman who greeted us at the door insisted that my two 7 year old twin boys who have ASD/ADHD that they wear a face mask. Neither boys tolerate the masks but she insisted. Now we fully understand that with Covid 19 measures need to be taken to keep everyone safe but she had no compassion or understanding for my boys even when a full meltdown commenced. I would strongly recommend NOT taking anyone with ASD here. Very disappointed

We had gone here specifically because wished to try Marys pasties.Ordered,waited a long time outside.Got 2 pasties,walked few minutes to car park.Pastry warm,husbands pastie slightly warm .The filling in mine was cold.Husband took them back .Guy stuck thermometer in and said acceptable temperature.Well I can tell you that I would have happily stuck a baby or toddlers finger in either pastie and they would be fine.Mine cold,husbands lukewarm,that is not safe.Food should be heated through properly.Husband asked for refund.£5 each dearest pastie we have ever had in all years visiting Cornwall and the owner of this Establishment gave him £5 back,not £10.We were prepared to pay £10 for piping hot pasties so price not an issue but cold or lukewarm a no no.Owner had a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp very unfriendly looking.Would prefer a happy smiley face and hot pastie.Regarding owner replying,I am not lying,being libellous and do not care if you threaten me with police.goodbye.

Came here for breakfast.Do Not accept covid exemption cards made my husband wear a mask and then delayed serving us when very few people in the shop. Both servers very abrupt. You can only have fried eggs... This is not clear on the menu. No swops apparently but its OK to give chips instead of hash browns. Very cheap tasting tea and coffe. I would not recommended this place for its service.

We had a nice fish & chip dinner from here whilst on holiday, so went back on the last day for a Cornish pasty with chips. When we got home and unwrapped them, all 3 pasty’s were burnt and inedible, they were advertised as ‘freshly made’ we were very disappointed. How could they serve these up? They would have seen how black they were? Because of Covid everyone had to wait outside the shop, otherwise I would have seen them put it in the paper and said something at the time. ☹️

As always pickwicks was delicious. Got fish and chips to takeaway and eat on the beach. Fish is always fresh and tasty and freshly cooked chips.

Visited here with my husband and 2 children (one aged 9 and other aged 2)we was told we had to wear a mask on entering not a problem, asked if we could get our temperature checked, again not a problem! Owner who had no PPE then made it clear that all children had to wear masks as they are covid carriers, and proceeded to explain how it has been proven they are the spreaders of covid! Firstly I explained that children under 11 are exempt from wearing masks and I point blank refuse to put a mask on my 2 year old daughter, who would actually become very upset and distressed by this. He said that all customers need to wear them and many people that morning had already walked out as they also refused to do this. The owner pointed to his sign saying it is illegal to not wear a mask even though guidelines state not under 11 years of age, clearly he needs to read the guidelines properly and he also stated that these are his rules. Firstly I don't mind following guidelines but not made to feel like my children are to blame for the spread of covid. I think the owner needs to learn some values and behaviours, he certainly has no customer service etiquette. Couldn't fault the lady who served us, she was lovely!

The sign outside says No1 chippy, i would say its very average especially for the money, the chips were nothing special and the cod i had was ok but again a bit dry and nothing special.2 of the Kids had a chicken burger, if you have kids you will understand they can be fussy, they had a few bites and couldn’t eat them, to be fair they were a bit like rubber when i had a bite but to be fair a fish and chip shop i would not expect them to perfect chicken burgers.We never got chance to try the chip shop further up towards the beach front but that would be what I recommend doing first if looking for a chippy here.

We went here last year where the owner stared down on us, the food was greasy and disgusting and when talking with the staff they seemed rude. I would never recommend this place to anyone!

If I could put 0 stars I would! Where do I begin....... before leaving to start our journey home we popped into Perranporth for breakfast. The breakfast was pretty grim to be fair and my mother was refused a breakfast of her choice as it wasn’t on the menu, she just wanted bacon, mushrooms and hash browns. When it came to paying I left my husband and parents to it and took my children outside to wait. My husband and parents explained that they were not happy with the food we had received as the menu stated that we would receive hash browns and yet we were served sautéed potatoes, the owner was so rude and said they were of better quality than hash browns and it’s his business. My mother then proceeded to share her other concerns but was met with a torrent of abuse by the owner. He was so very rude and even told my mother to get out of the shop. I should have read the reviews before coming in here but due to having no signal I didn’t. In future if a restaurant is empty and the others are heaving I’ll wait for a table else where. Bottom line- the owner is rude and the food is nasty and tasteless.

Wasn’t to sue after some of the reviews but have to say one of the best large cod and chips I have had in a long time could not fault it.

Food was good, wrong price advertised on board so questioned bill when it arrived, to be told tough it's the wrong price. To be sarcastically asked "what do you want, money off?"My partner then said it was a shame about his attitude to which I cam assume was the owner called him a "t**t" as we walked out of the door.Completely ruined our day out simply cannot believe how rude the "man" was. The lady that served us was very blunt I feel sorry for the young lad who was very polite at the counter.

Called in while in Perranporth like we used to do when we holidayed in Cornwall regularly.Like all the other times food was very good (granted it took a little longer this time as they were running with limited staff) staff all wore the correct ppe in the current climate and took temperature as well as location details but we’re getting a lot of harsh comments from guests as they were running to full current legislation, down side they could not open the toilets for the public but there was a public 1 a couple of hundred yards away (granted this would have been an inconvenience if you had disabilities)

We have stayed in Perranporth many times, but this time was self catering. We were all looking forward to fish and chips all day, to be sadly very disappointed. My husband and son waited for over 45 minutes to be served, by a very rude woman to all customers, the chips were milky white and not cooked properly and the fish was small. All in all very disappointing and not worth the £24 for x2 cod & chips and nuggets. I recommend you visit a different fish and chip shop in Perranporth, because I wish we had.

We wanted to pay this restaurant a visit, but on entering the premises the man behind the counter rudely spoke to my husband. He said that all our temperatures had to be taken and we had to wear a mask in the restaurant all the time, up until we ate our meal. No staff had masks on. The owner was so rude and made us feel quit awkward we decided not to spend our money in his restaurant and went elsewhere and found a lovey tea room instead.

We have been coming to Perranporth for about 12 years and always call in to Pickwicks. Best fish and chips around.

On holiday and ventured by bicycle to Perranporth. Walked around the town but difficult to social distance as it was quite busy so only stayed a short time but we walked passed Pickwicks and remembered the fabulous fish we had eaten previously there. Only a few in the queue so we joined it. All fish cooked to order so be patient. I must admit that it was not as good as last time - May be we were unlucky but we would try it again. Take away only at this time. Large cod £7.15 plus chips so expensive. Previous visit I gave 5* to the fish. Clean and adhering to the Covid19 instructions. Well done

Wouldn’t normally venture into town in the evening but I’m so glad we did! They’d run out of chips on the seafront and their misfortune was our gain. We have discovered possibly the best chippy in the area. Fantastic fresh fish and lovely flavoured chips. They kindly served us as they were about to shut. The staff had great camaraderie, totally and highly recommend!

Firstly I understand it’s a global pandemic but that is no excuse for a lack of customer service. We ordered 2x fish and chips and had to wait an excess of over 30 mins. No heads up when ordering that there might be a wait. Plenty of staff behind the counter yet such a slow output of orders. Fish and chips was alright.

We visited whilst on holiday in the area for a few days, and have to say had a very good experience - the Cod and Chips were, in our experience, the best we have tried (and we have tried a fair few!). Perhaps we were lucky, but our experience was different to a lot of the recent reviews on here. It's not the cheapest Chippy, but our fish was beautiful and a good portion and the chips were gorgeous. Based on our experience I would highly recommend it.

My Son was hungry so thought we would give this place a shot....mistake. Wish had checked on here before trying and seen how many bad reviews it has had this month alone and gone elsewhere! If that's a large chips for the price then I dread to think what a small is! They weren't even cooked, looked like they had hardly licked the deep fat fryer and the potato was still hard! Two chips in they went in the bin. Try one of the other 2 in the town is my advice. These have the people fooled as their's is probably the one that most people come across first in the high street. Better still drive to Francines in Newquay....now that's a proper chip shop and you will not be disapointed!

After a lovely day in Perranporth we really fancied some fish and chips. Unfortunately now I don't think I can eat fish and chips again for a long time. This was the only place open, had a queue which is generally a good sign. Upon entering the shop, observing their Covid procedures, I was shouted at to get out of the shop! Not a great start. I let my husband order instead. The fish portion was tiny, probably Pre-battered and frozen. Think a portion of fish from Tesco value frozen box, or a McD fillet of fish. The chips were appalling, soggy and tasting of old dirty oil (later found out it was beef dripping) I literally managed 3 chips, the rest went in the bin. I had to throw up in a hedge on out walk back because it had made me so queasy. These weren't cheap either. I don't like leaving bad reviews, but when I've been ripped off and made ill it's only right other people should know.

Hi to start I want to say I never leave bad feed back but im sorry to say I have too this time. Today I took my 3 year old little girl to the beach as my wife had an hospital appointment locally. For tea I wandered where to go so I went onto trip advisor to see where was best and this place came up, It was only 2mins away from the beach so I though lets try it. The lady was lovely and all food was cooked to order but unfortunately the whole meal was horrible, My daughters fish bits were inedible the batter was so hard I had to break it all off to leave 4 tiny little lumps of dry fish. I gave her some of my soggy chips but they were so undercooked and dripping in fat I decided not to give her anymore. I thought she might be able to have some of my battered sausage but unfortunately same again rock hard batter. Anyone would think they had been sitting under the heat lamp all day but we ordered at 4:55 10m after they had opened so I thought it would all be lovely and fresh, how wrong I was. The lot went into the bin after about 5m of trying to eat and decided to go to the local shop and get something to get us by until we got home (penzance) £10 for sausage and chips and 4 little fish bits with no chips is a little over priced too. Like I say lovely service but horrific food. Sorry.

Disappointed. First bit of haddock and, apart from a mouth full of bones, it tasted really badly of old cooking oil. The chips weren’t exactly expansive but for £2.60 for a small portion? This is a joke. All I can taste is oil, plus I feel ripped off. Fission in St Agnes seems to have it right - why can’t we get decent fish and chips in Perranporth.Will not be visiting again

£20 for 3 Small (& I mean SMALL) cod & chips, £2.40 for 2 cans of pop. Example the size of the cod, I’ve had a bigger hash brown from Mc D’s.

We take our grown up autistic son for breakfast and lunch here. The breakfast is good plate full, great quality produce. We have also had lunch, the fish and chips were tasty, l couldn’t eat all of mine, so our son finished off my lunch. The staff always makes us feel very welcome and put us at ease. The lady is brilliant with our son and he loves their food. I would highly recommend visiting them for breakfast or for the fish and chips

Large chips £3.10 more like a small chips , large fish £5.30 seen bigger potato fritters , very small potions and fish didnt taste of anything.The 2 old couple that own/work there are very rudeOld man was waiting for his tea he spend £16 he was a little unsteady on his feet and took a seat in the restaurant while waiting the 15minutes for his food the owners faces was appalled by it , a couple came in and sat down the owners couldn't get to the table quick enough the customers ask for 5 minutes and the owners face was a picture To me there only intrested in 1 thing and that's your money Customer service very bad.Will never use againOver priced and not very nice

Havan't been to pickwicks in perranporth for about two years. Had a fish n chips takeaway tonight and was freshly cook, the whole meal was really delicious so we certainly won't leave it another two years!

Awful. Wouldn't recommend. Over priced and small portions. Fish seemed over cooked and dry and the chips looked anemic. Was enjoying the homemade fishcake untill I came across bones (lots of them). Will never be visiting again

Service was as expected as all cooked to order. Staff were friendly and helpful. That’s the positives done. The negatives- I know they have staff and over heads but a large portion of chips is around £3.50 and in a small tray, that in my opinion is expensive. The chips were hard but I’m going to put that down to end of season potato’s. The fish tasted nice but for a portion of fish and chips it was more expensive than our usual “home” chippy.

We always get our chips from here as the battered sausages are lovely and go very well with a portion of cheesy chips. Efficient and friendly staff too.

Lacking portion sizes, cod was not a large even though I ordered a large! Chips hard, tasteless, cold very DRY, obviously was the afternoon batch that did not sell, was looking forward to a fish and chip dinner only to feel let down, will not use again.

If like fish & chips then this is the place for you. The staff there are very friendly, they can provide you some great fish & chips, to eat in or takeaway & all for a very reasonable price.

Visited Perranporth today with a family of 5, fish and chips from Pickwicks was amazing. Freshly cooked, hot and outstanding quality and taste. All served up at a good value price and with a smile! Highly recommended if your in Perranporth!

Appears under new ownership/ management (not sure which) this place has stepped up its game again.

Had 2 small cod and chips - lovely! Crispy batter, beautifully cooked fish and chips not greasy - perfect!

I chose this chippy because the notice outside claimed to cook all orders from fresh so I was prepared for a wait, turned out to be 15 minutes.

Tried to get a takeaway on Sunday 25th August at approx 8:10pm, walked in through the doors, there must have been around 15-20 people all waiting for food with receipts. I was greeted by a white haired man who I would imagine was the owner, he rudely asked me “have you ordered?”I replied with no, to which he barked “we are closed!”. Utterly disgraceful customer service and in front of a whole shop of customers too! What on earth you are doing closing so early when there is clearly a high demand for your services is beyond me.

We were a family group of 7 for a take away tea. We had fish and chips along with mushy peas. The queues were long and a little bit of a wait, however the food was worth the wait. We all thoroughly enjoyed our tea.

Good english breakfasts including an excellent vegetarian option with tasty veggie sausages. Was good value and excellent size portions. Coffee wasn't good at all. Good service albeit was a little slow but was a busy holiday morning. Would recommend.

Our first time trying a chip shop in Perranporth so a bit a of a gamble, should have gone elsewhere! Large chips and foot long sausage turned out to be a small chips at £3.10 per portion, very dry. Staff member serving very surly, a smile would have been nice!

Queued up for chips this afternoon, just about to order, and my daughter noticed the tiny, handwritten sign, warning customers that all of their food was cooked in beef dripping yuk.

Went here a year ago and it was poor - used to serve the best fish and chips in Perranporth (we are local and used to visit regularly). Went to get a take out... four staff stood around yapping - they made me wait for time before one of them put down their drink to serve me. Sadly, it wasn’t worth the wait. Over cooked, really oily and were a real disappointment. Just a shame that a once wonderful eatery is now so poor and that a number of staff couldn’t give a hoot. We won’t be going back.

We Had take away chips- freshly cooked. Good menu. They have a restaurant also. Exactly what you need to take to the beach.

4 meals ordered and 3 were spot on. One order of chips were old and tasted like cardboard. Having left most of them we told a member of staff who apologized and walked off. After everything was finish a misrable old man came over looking for an argument is what it felt like. He gave us some excuse about making a new batch every half an hour and all our chips came from the same batch (which was nonsense) we didn't even get an apology let alone money off for the chips. Not going back again.

We ordered 2 small cod and chips, after 5 mins waiting (food is cooked to order) we were told that they didn’t have any small cods (at 5.30) and we would have to pay extra to have the standard cod, which we begrudgingly did only to be told after another 5-10 mins waiting actually we do have the small cods after all, however if we wanted it we’d have to wait for it all to be cooked after already waiting 15 mins! No apology or offering us any money back and the lad looked so scared of his boss we genuinely thought he’d get sacked if we said we wanted the money back! The food was lovely but we wouldn’t go back as the service was shocking!! Shame really. We wish we’d if waited for the other chippy to open in the end.

Excellent fish and chips , freshly cooked to order as we had haddock and chips. Very tasty.Highly recommended.
