The fish was luke-warm, dry and rubbery. The chips were cold, crunchy and rock hard; more than half of them were inedible and ended up in the bin. Marklews used to be a brilliant takeaway but nowaday it falls far short of what is acceptable - at least in my opinion. To spend that kind kind of money for food of such poor quality - is an insult. I visited a few months ago and had exactly the same experience, but gave them the benefit of the doubt and (foolishly!) visited again. There won't be another time unless things improve drastically on their part.

Booked an afternoon tea for 2 people. It was awful. No atmosphere, no staff and a cold draught. Seats were too low and a wobbly table. 4 sandwiches in total of tuna, egg, ham and cheese and rocket lettuce way past its sell by date. The smallest scone I have ever seen with such poor quality jam and cream. Then 3 small dessert cakes which again were awful. A glass of very flat Prosecco and cold coffee. The cost for this was £50.

Husband went and got 3x sausage and chips brought them back... chips tasted disgusting ( it would pay to cook them in clean oil) had a horrible tang to them. And the sausage where do I start was anemic, tasteless and where was the meat cause they sure didn't have any.........

Superb Chinese food. I always buy my takeaway from here and I am never disappointed. Delicious with a huge menu and great variety. Friendly staff and a fast and efficient service..... Happy....!

Just bought two fish and chips, when we got home and put them on our plates, the portions are a good size, but unfortunately the chips were not fresh but just warm and limp and the fish was like fish finger size, not happy and won’t be going there again.

Strange that whenever one of two people give this place 1*, all of a sudden a 5 star review appears. Not really a conspiracy theory but...... Visited on Saturday. No cocktails available, no sea food available, incredibly limited fish and chips and that's it. Totally indifferent manager who, when we walked out suggested dismissively that we should come back in a couple of weeks.... As if. The name of this place pays homage to a wonderful gentleman, pity the restaurant sinks as low as its possible to go. Service 0 starts Drink 0 stars Food impossible to say. We walked out as only 10% of the menu was available. Don't waste your time. There are plenty of restaurants in the vicinity that won't set you back as much and night even have food and drink available.

Very expensive compared to other local chip shops and stuck in the 80s not talking card payments. We were unable to get what we wanted as we didn’t have enough cash on us

Had battered sausage and chips ... battered sausage was awful ... batter was soggy and tore off ... more squelchy than crunchy. Fella behind counter seemed surly like he had had a bad day. Not in a rush to go back to be fair. Shame used the place on and off for years. Will have to be desperate to want to go there again. Like I say shame as it was always good. Might have just been a bad day buy it was what it was on the day.

If you’re looking for crispy batter and fresh fish to die for you will be disappointed. The fish was soaking wet with oil just like the undercooked chips. My dad just brought them in, he’s 84 love him and wanted to surprise us, I’ve just ordered dominoes for us instead. On the plus side he said the staff were lovely. Even the dog turned her nose up at it, sorry guys
