We were staying locally for a holiday and decided to grab a quick dinner from here on our first night. We initially asked to order a pizza but the lady serving said it would take at least 20 minutes. We’d had a long day of travelling with a 9 year in tow so decided to opt for fish and chips and chicken nuggets and chips for my daughter to make it for quicker although we still waited almost 20 minutes! I can only assume that the nuggets were cooked separately as the lady went in to a different room. Definitely not fast food. All seemed a little odd in there and it definitely wasn’t service with a smile but actually the food was good. My fussy daughter said the nuggets were good, and I was pleasantly surprised with the fish (after reading previous reviews). The chips were tasty and cooked well, although a little greasy. My husband didn’t like the fact that the skin was still on the fish but I didn’t mind. The curry sauce was nice, although a little cold. Given we had a good meal on our first night, we decided to try the pizza another night and ordered ahead and went over to the park opposite while we waited. I wasn’t expecting the world’s greatest pizza for a takeaway place but what we received was so far from that. I’ve honestly never had anything like it. Very clearly a frozen pre made base. The base was solid, and dry. It wasn’t really edible and I definitely didn’t want to risk breaking a tooth on the crust! It went in the bin! My husband also had curly fries and popcorn chicken which he said were OK. This place is in a really great location and could probably do really well but let down by the food. Perhaps best to stick to fish and chips.

Not knowing what to expect after seeing bad reviews from years ago, we decided to try it. We had good food. We all had cod & some of us added chips. There were 5 of us. The fish was very good but the chips weren't very crispy. The containers were brilliant too. 8/10 from me. We will go again.

Dry flavorless chips. Fish tasteless in a greasy batter. Expensive and poor quality. Shame because this is a well located site. There is a better offering on Manor Road.

Worst than it was 2 years ago no wonder it never has customers the most disgusting cheap budget sausages horrible oil cooked chips , shame in such a perfect location loads of houses around and on a main road but absolutely terrible food- a business that should be so busy don’t no how it’s still in business with such poor quality food absolutely horrible food definitely one of the worst chippy’s

We stopped in for lunch on our way back to our campsite and were not disappointed! Super tasty sausage and chips, fresh and hot. Great little find.

This was really terrible. The whole meal was dripping in grease which soaked through the box into my jeans!! The oil they use has a funny taste and I could never go back.

The lady who serves is so rude, the food was cold greasy and reheated the kids wouldn't eat and even Dog wouldn't eat it.

We got a mixture of things but the main reason for this review was about the fish. So many bones I nearly choked on or had to pick out. That’s one thing I can’t stand it sitting picking bones out of a fish. Especially from a fish and chip shop. First time I’ve experienced this with fish from a chippy. Really not good! Chips were ok so I have 2 stars

Rubbish fish tastes like rubber and chips been reheated waste of money would not recommend I would travel further up the coast to Hunstanton in future

Disgusting! Pie hard & crusty been warmed all day! Chips cold! Curry sauce cold! Don’t waste your money not enjoyable cold & disgusting

We called here on Bank Holiday Sunday. My partner had scampi and chips which he said were delicious. I had chicken and chips with mushy peas. The chicken was the best I've ever tasted from a chip shop, the mushy peas with the mint were delicious and so were the chips. The service was great and the staff friendly and chatty. We will certainly be back again.

We’ve been here several times and had excellent battered cod, chips and sausage. Outstandingly kind and helpful staff.

We stopped here on the way to hunstanton. My wife had a fishcake and said it was very good excellent fish cake. I had sausage and chips, the chips were good. A bit expensive, I also asked for salt and vinegar and found later none but overall happy

Cod and chips. Chips were fine. The cod was dreadful. One piece was mostly batter with a small piece of cod squashed inbetween. The other piece of cod was better, but had bones going along most of it. This was the third time we have had cod from this shop and each time there have been a few bones, but this piece surpassed all previous ones. Yes, fish has bones, but they are usually filleted. Will not be going back.

Popped in today as i was passing by Nice and clean inside Friendly staff and cooked to order whats not to like!! Best fish and chips ive had in a long while

Have been here a few times but decided to try something diff this time so had kebab and a hotdog as well as pie and fishcake..freshly made as always .. the staff are always super helpful and will go out of their way to change things around if u have fussy eaters etc .. we do !! The kebab was brilliantly spiced and lovely large fresh salad had a medium but was full half way through that and we eat a lot !! Chips as always were my idea of perfect everyone likes their chips diff .. I like big soft and creamy not dry these were so yummy I ate those first and prob then was too full for the kebab ! The hot dog in fresh baguette not rolls and lovely fried onions again all hot and tasty . Fishcake my son loves hes a bit fussy normally but their fishcakes he will finish off !! He likes their peas too as slightly minty and always tasty Def will be using again

We stayed in Dersingham half term week and fancied fish n chips , this was our last day of holiday meal, we had to do a takeaway as the dog needed a shower after the beach ! The food was awful we had three fish and all full of bones and hardly any meat on the fish very disappointing:(

People in there are very rude and have no general people skills to customers or each other as staff. My husband eat the food and said it tasted odd and the fish had so many big bones in it. He left half of the food and I'm glad he did because that night he was being sick in the toilet in the early hours and didnt go to work the next day. For your own safety, happiness and money in your pocket dont eat here!

Arrived to a big smile from Michelle and some banter with Keith. First class service and food, went home, ate the lot and no complaints from anyone! Lovely family business with good food and service.

Ideally situated in centre of village. Tropics cater for all tastes. Should you not want batter then that's not a problem as they will cook fish without it. A family run business who have won loads of awards. Well worth a visit as you can eat in or take away.

Ordered 4 large fish and 2 large chips and it was cooked fresh to order. Chips were ok but fish tasted bland and watery.

Fairly good chippie, selling the usual food. Fish and chips / pie and chips were fine. Nothing to write home about, but there again no complaints.

We live local and have used this chippy when passing by on our way home from beach a number of times. It has to be said that it can be a bit hit or miss, not sure why. The homemade fishcakes are quite nice but the kebabs have been nothing more than lukewarm sometimes. Family run business that can at times bring personal issues into the workplace but always friendly to us as customers.

Great award winning fish and chip shop on the corner of the main road and opposite the park. Great family run shop very clean and friendly nothing too much trouble. Tables to sit in or you can take away. Very recommend.

This is our local chippy and to be honest I've nothing to complain about. It's always immaculately clean as are the staff..

We just happened to stumble across this chip shop last summer when we was having a ride out & have used it every time we have been that way since. The Trip Advisor reviews came up when I was trying to find out opening times and we couldn’t understand the bad ones? We have received nothing but great service and the food has always been really good and that’s coming from a fussy eater!. We sat in to eat last time and it was busy, the lady that was serving was really friendly and chatted to the obvious regulars and us & the kids. I’m pleased we didn’t read any reviews before our first visit as we may never have give them a try . I would recommend this place to everyone for delicious Fish & Chips!!

Slimy chips, sausages that taste like they've never been near meat and some of the worst service I've ever experienced. Even when you're not in the building and are just walking past you hear the family screaming at each other while their dog barks obnoxiously.

I have been using this Fish and Chip shop for at least 10 years, Michelle is wonderful, she is amazingly quick at dealing with multiple orders front off house, she is always cheery and has a quick smile.

We live locally and have driven passed this place many times, wish we had kept on doing so! Decided to give it try a few weeks ago. Ordered plaice, haddock and a portion of chips. We were advised it would be about 15 minutes as it was to be cooked to order. It was almost inedible. Soggy, greasy batter around grey fish served with even soggier chips which had congealed together in an unappetising lump. My husband struggled on and ate some of his plaice and a few chips. The rest and all of my haddock went into the bin. An expensive mistake at £14.98. The couple serving were unfriendly and kept shouting at each other. Certainly will neither return nor recommend.

We use the chip shop all the time as its quite near us, the food is great and the service good. They also have outdoor and indoor tables if you don't want to take away.

Teníamos pescado y patatas fritas una noche que estuvimos cerca. Fue agradable y limpio por dentro, con un montón de asientos si querías comer allí. El personal era bueno y la chica que servía era muy servicial. Útil que se podía pagar con tarjeta. Buena selección de comida para todos los gustos. Esperar un poco, ya que parecen cocinar a la orden, incluso el viernes por la noche, pero valió la pena. Las patatas fritas eran preciosas!

Don't know how they survive never any body in the place I have had some bad fish and chips but this one takes the biscuit avoid at all costs

Nos visita este pescado y chip tienda cada vez que visite la zona. Creemos que la calidad del pescado y patatas fritas es excelente. Nada es preparado a pedido y también es muy bueno. Tienen una muy diversa variedad de menú y también tienen noches especiales. Recomiendo encarecidamente este "fish and chips" a cualquiera que quiera disfrutar de calidad de pescado y patatas fritas.

Fuimos el hog altamente anunciado asado y no tenían! ! ! Fuimos, para que el bacalao y patatas fritas. Una pequeña porción, pero cod era muy sabrosa. Me encantó los guisantes de menta blanda. Las patatas fritas eran normales. Volvería, no.

Menú genial, bien cocinada y las porciones son muy generosas. Todas las comidas fueron ordenados, caliente y delicioso. El lugar ideal para el hambre de estómago!

Hog roast sandwich was great and a good price. Husband hadsame and enjoyed it. I have heard steak nite is a treat.

Tropics is more than a fish and chip shop and excels at offering a variety of take away meals, including hog roast and specials during the week.There is seating available inside and outside and the family who own and run it are friendly, helpful and polite. Food is very good and careers for most tastes.

So, we read the reviews and thought they were just from people making a fuss, how wrong we were. First impressions were quite good until the staff did actually start arguing with each other out back, they were going at it hammer and tongs. The food itself was really very poor, due we think to the strange cooking oil they use and time spent being kept warm. You could opt to eat in their little garden but to be honest the dogs barking in their yard would be more than a little off putting. There are so many places around here that beat this place hands down, so if you're on your way to the coast, save your chippy tea for when you get there, if you're there already eat before you leave.

Friendly chippy on the corner so struggle a little with parking, but fish and chips aa you would expect and amazing burgers. We don't visit often, but when we do , we normally sit in to eat. Lovely staff always happy to chat. Burgers, kebabs and chicken etc.....All re made to order, so be prepared to wait.

I use this establishment at least once a month when I am feeling lazy. I've had fish, pies, fish cakes and sausages over the years. They all "did the job". I have no reason not to return.

For a local take away it's not spectacular but it ain't that bad tbh not a bad bbq lover pizza so I give it ago not great but not bad either

We have been using this chip shop on a regular basis for over 15 years- it has always been a treat when we arrive at the seaside to spend time at our van. It has been getting gradually less busy over the past couple of years and the menu getting more diverse presumably in a bid to attract customers back. The plan isn't working and they seem to have forgotten what they did well - we have now had 2 visits with very substandard food - large fish is just bigger lump of batter and chips were lukewarm and soggy!! Sorry Tropics we won't be back - there are too many other good chippies locally.

This is possibly the worst fish 'n' chip shop in Norfolk! The chips taste as if they have been cooked in rancid fat. Fish batter crisp on the outside and soggy on the inside. Fish was dry and almost inedible. The 'boss' was also a bit on the grumpy side. Have heard he can be a bit rude and doesn't like competition. Oh well. Plenty more good chip shops in Norfolk, fortunately.

If you rate this establishment any way good then your palate is seriously flawed. Known this place for 20+ yrs. Still rubbish. They have no real competition & people will eat any old crap these days. I'd welcome G. Ramsey to rate this. But it's not really worth his time or embarrassment. There is another chip shop in Manor Rd Dersingham which I haven't tried. Never going back rest assured!...

Astounded to read these reviews and am somewhat suspicious of them. We are local and have always found the staff to be polite, helpful and friendly. Food is always good and nice and hot. I am a stickler for hygiene and the premises is immaculate. They do an excellent range of meals.. the curries are to die for! Added together with competitive prices what more could you ask for. These reviews do not sound similar to any experience we have had in the 10 years we have been patrons. Cannot understand how the food can be so bad if it has survived so long. We have no complaints!

My local but prefer to travel to another fish shop as I don't like soggy batter or being 'barked'at by the staff or having to listen to them barking at each other or their rottweiler barking at me on my way in and on my way out ! ... customer service not great and neither is the food I'd recommend travelling to Hunstanton for your chippie tea ☺

Called in here whilst staying at Sandringham campsite. Read previous TripAdvisor reviews before I entered having Googled the nearest chippy. Overall the service was very good and inside was very clean. My only gripe was that we had a few undercooked chips but nothing too bad. Don't usually review takeaways but felt I should help to counteract some of the more negative reviews which I feel are unjust. Would definitely buy from here again.

I really do not understand all the negative reviews on this well run family Chip Shop. I fear this is perhaps more to do with a vendetta against the family than the quality of its food?Michelle, the front of house, is very efficient and much in contrast to the usual standard of chip shop staff in places such as nearby Hunstanton. Menu is extremely varied and premises are of an exceptional standard of cleanliness.I also can't understand why this place is so disliked, yet has survived in business for over 25 years?

I lived in Dersingham for around 12 years. Tropics was about 200 yards from my house, but we preferred to drive 4 miles to the next village to get fish and chips that were edible! This place is soooo bad! The owners are known as local bullies and their food stinks. Avoid at all costs...

Can't say we were not warned but couldn't be bothered to drive to pub and thought surely it can't be that bad plus reviews were about fish. Started off OK, lots of awards on wall, place was nice and clean but went downhill from there. Hubby ordered a kebab with chilli sauce, and chips, no salad anda hog roast gap, nothing too difficult there. When we got back to our room we discovered the kebab had salad and there was no salt and vinegar on chips. With the first bite of !y hog roast gap I actually thought the guy had put the chilli sauce on my gap, my mouth is still on fire now! The crackling was disgusting, so ended up having an apple sauce and chip butty. Hoping my hubby will make me a cup of tea so I can have a biscuit to take the taste away. My recommendation is if you just want a bag of chips then take a chance, ours looked gross but weren't too bad, although at one stage thought my husband had been brave and was crunching on the crackling but turned out to be a chip. The rest I would give a miss and make the effort to drive to local pub or make do with something from local supermarket

We had fish & Chips twice and a sausage & chips. They were horrible, the chips were re-cooked and soggy and the fish was nearly all batter. I would not say it was service with a smile far from it. They seem to be concentrating on the outside BBQ weekends to the detriment of the Fish & Chips. I would not go back again.

Chips had been pre cooked and warmed up. Cod was nearly all batter and managed to be both soggy and over cooked! Totally dreadful would never go back

We went here on the last evening of our holiday and, as it was raining, decided to eat our fish and chips at one of the little tables in the 'cafe' (they can't call it that as they would have to provide facilities such as a toilet they told us). It was 6pm on a Monday and not very busy. We has 2x Medium cod and chips and my toddler had a sausage with a few chips (which she ate). It was a reasonable price. Although the medium cod were quite small. The chips were ok but the cod was horrible. It had a strange chemically taste to it. My partner ate his because he was so hungry. I didn't eat mine. I was a little nervous about mentioning it to the stand-offish lady behind the counter so I didn't complain. Other things: Couldn't put your own salt and vinegar on and I could barely taste what the lady put on them. Had to pay for sachets of ketchup and mayo - were expensive and horrible cheap stuff. Would not recommend
