Fishnchicken in North Hertfordshire

No fish or chicken . For the 3rd time in a month I’ve tried to purchase fish or chicken and they have none. It’s half past 7 at night they close at 10 !!

We used the app to order our dinner as a family of 5. I found the app easy and quick and since the app has been introduced, we always order this way now. When I collected our order the service was friendly. The food was lovely and our daughter said 'can we have this again soon' as she enjoyed it so much.

I went there a month ago. I asked for a large portion of chips, they said they only had a regular portion left. Even though I asked their attitude was like it or lump it. So I had to settle for regular. Once I had left the store 2 other people walked in and they asked for chips and the staff were prepared to make some more. I went back into the store asking why they were prepared to make more for them and not for me. I was ignored at first. I was made out to be in the wrong at the time, as they said I would have had to have waited which I was not given the option of and I would have waited, In the past week I have been there twice for pies. No pies. I was told they only do food to order after 9. But they refuse to do so with pies. There used to be pies. Gone too far, all my years I have been to this chippie. I won't be returning.

We have been using this Fish and Chip shop for years. Whatever has happened to it in recent times? Am totally disappointed with the food. You get more "end" bits of the potato for chips but they are like hard crusted biscuits. Very few decent chips. We had a large portion of chips (more like small portion) a large Cod (again more like a regular size) and an unbattered sausage - £15.00. I know produce has gone up but crikey be this is daylight robbery. I wouldn't mind paying the money if the food was excellent but this fish and chip shop has really gone down of late. Come on Fish'n'Chicken - get your house in order!!

I picked my wife up from Royston rail station and hadn’t eaten so popped into the Fishnchicken for Cod and Chips, only had large cod already cooked so went with that. I almost collapsed when I was charged £12.14p but thought this is going to be a great dish, well to be honest the fish was not very large at all (more a regular size I would say) and the chips could have done with a little more time cooking. Not impressed although I know that prices have gone up but £12 14p come on!they do come in a nice box though.

I am sat waiting for my food. I ordered it 1 hr and 45 minutes ago with a request to deliver it 35 minutes ago. I just phoned to chase it up. The guy told me they were very busy did not apologise or offer any sort of refund and then hung up on me.

To day I went to fish and chick in royston got 3 bits southern fry chicken and chips got home every one be careful don't cook the chicken all the way through very poor and chip rubbish gone down hill lot will not be going back i am thinking of going to take this high I have the prove get the hearth and safe I could of been ill I have to be careful

I have not been for a while because last time it was awful. Tried it tonight yellow fish yellow chips awful taste threw them away. Why can they not make them golden brown, will never ever go back. Royston really could do with a good fish and chip shop, if they ever do this one is in for a bad time.

Always absolutely brilliant. I live in Royston and have been going here for years. Never had an issue.

I ordered a beef burger and got a chicken burger and despite being an hour before closing my onions rings where scraps of empty batter.

We visited on Friday 20th March , amid the CoVid 19 crisis , so they were asking customers to practise social distancing ! The staff involved were polite and friendly, new procedures were explained . The food was awesome , hot , not too greasy and really well cooked . The chip portions were huge and we ended up sharing as they were so big . The haddock was flaky and covered in lovely batter. The staff were all upbeat and positive. A great take away during a difficult time .

Occasionally we have had good food here but it's totally random. Most of the time the fish is soggy, there are no mushy peas (which they never seem to care about) and the portions vary too much in size. I'm going to try the other place nearby.

After being barked at to call the next customer, not another word until the next call for the next customer (before I’d been handed receipt). Very rude and definitely tarnished what might have been an ok meal.

After 10+ years of using this place they've finally lost our custom. This place had seriously gone downhill in the last year. The portion sizes are inconsistent - impossible to differentiate between the large and regular chips these days and both look small compare to what they used to be . Curry sauces and mushy pea pots are also only half filled these days. Much better value and quality takeaways locally.

I normally love this shop (even though the portions are sometimes ridiculously small for what they charge) but the quality is normally good. Got a take away last night and the chips were just dreadful; they had clearly been there for a long time and the potatoes were not great either. Please do not cut corners when you are not busy; people will vote with their feet.

We like the food at fish n chicken but our last three visits have been marred by orders missing items or poor portion sizes. The staff gossip incessantly while they are serving you. The photo shows the portion size of tonight’s ‘Medium’ cod and chips! Warning: check your food before you are too far away.

Disgusting. It looked like someone had sat on my son's burger, McDonald's do better. Chips half cooked. Southern fried chicken & fish soggy yuck yuck yuck. Won't be going back there again

The chips are usually very good, yet vary a little, and are better some times than the times. However, every single time I have come here, the fish has always been very well cooked.

I have had fish and chips here many, many times, and just like today, the fish is always good and the poor reviews leave me surprised. I am not easily pleased with fish and chips, and the quality here is always spot on.

My God,what a dreadful so -called fish and chip shop.Visited Thursday lunchtime.The shop was dingy,dirty and unlit.The female serving was rude and unhelpful.When l asked for a piece of fish she barked back at me"Jumbo sausage or Saveloy."Will never visit again.

I just can’t believe how busy this shop gets as the standards have fallen big time. Three visits in six weeks and twice the orders I took home was wrong and now it’s come home right but cold and very greasy!!! Will not be going back again....

Never had fish and chips this bad. I live in Surrey and visiting my mum in Royston. Asked for a large chips with 2 pieces of cod. Well, the fish was child size, in fact Birds Eye frozen are more filling and the chips were the size of a small portion where I live. Wish I had gone to the other place in Royston by the shops and car park. They know what fish and chips should be like.

Use this a few times a year. We even use them for Quiz Nights when they deliver 50plus meals. Always good quality

Only ever had one bad order from this fish and chip shop, wonderful food, my whole family love it., generally go every other week.

Regularly use this fish and chip shop as, with its sister shop in Baldock, they serve the best fish & chips for MILES.

We have always found the fish and chips to be lovely. Nicely cooked fish especially the haddock. Very good potions also.

Controlled opening times means perfect dry fish and chips every time , friendly staff , fishmonger wllling to skin fish to make fish even more enjoyable

Fuimos en esta noche para conseguir algo de pescado y patatas fritas y cuando llegamos a casa y abrió la bolsa, nos dimos cuenta de que ambos estaban empapadas! cods Las patatas fritas eran bonitas pero tampoco fresco. No podía ser molestado que conducir de vuelta a quejarse. Pasta de pescado deben ser crujientes! Gran decepción.

We have been there many times. Convenient as they are open late. The food is tasty even though dearer than most other fish and chip shops. Fast service.

Queríamos pescado y patatas fritas después de un par de días y agotador estaban bastante sorprendidos de que cada establecimiento nos gustó en Hitchin, Stevenage, Letchworth y Baldock estaba cerrada. El pescado era realmente precioso, una jugosa grande cod en masa. Las patatas fritas eran recién preparado, y esto nunca me agrada como me gustan empapadas. Afortunadamente, la mayoría estaban bajo el gran trozo de pescado y esto los suavizada.

Sólo fui a recoger algo de comida, la única cosa que era comestible de un 24 libras de comida era la sal y la pimienta de calamar y bacalao! Las patatas fritas eran aproximadamente 3 horas antiguo y duro y seco. Costillas estaban muy fría!! Decepcionado más comida para llevar y comida decente calentadores todavía está fresca en 9, pero fue la peor comida que he probado! Nada en la comida fresca que tuve la semana pasada, tienes que ir cuando está lleno y recién preparado si no es chocante!!

We regularly get food from fishnchicken on a Friday. Not the cheapest chip shop but we usually get southern fried chicken and chips which is always superb. We also have fish and pies and again these have always been of good quality. Just watch out for the queue as around 6pm you might have to wait 10 - 15 minutes. Sometimes I have had to queue outside the shop which probably shows how good the food is!

Nearly always have a takeaway from here on a Friday while visiting family in the area. Haven't yet had a bad meal, plenty of chips, NOT greasy and the various dishes, pies, chicken, sausages or fish to go with it is always still hot when we get it back. Will be going again.

While not frequent customers whenever we do go here we are never let down. Service is usually friendly and efficient, often by youngsters who must have been taught well as they are never surly or impolite. We have also been at events where Fish and Chicken delivered up to aroudn 100 meals which, while not as good as when freshly purchsed from teh shop for personal consumption, were better than like servings we have had from rivals, which were often soggy and unappetising. Prices are fine

Seems to be very popular, on a Friday night there is a queue out of the door so it is popular with the locals. They do a good portion of chips.

Great fish and chips excellent curry sauce one the the better places to eat in royston as its always consistent, unlike some of the other restaurants in Royston not much else to say really it's fish and chips.

Have been coming here for years about once a week on the whole the food is good, occasionally the fish can be a bit greasy, the chicken and ribs are lovely!

We have been here quite a few times and always enjoyed the fish and chips. Sometimes the batter is a little soggy on the fish though is the one negative thing. They take card too which is always good!

This is definitely the best place is Royston for decent fish and chips, quick service, lovely food and very filling. Never been disappointed here, it's very popular with me and my family!

The size of the Chip portions seem have shrunk over recent weeks there are now barely enough Chips in a regular size portion to cover the base of the paper/card tray they are served on. Fish portion sizes too seem to have shrunk but the prices have risen.Until they raise their standards and portion sizes we will not be getting our Fish & Chips from there!

Always great to stop in here sometimes after walking home from the train station. Lovely old fashioned building, fish is decent most of the time and god curry sauce too! The service is always very fast in there too.

I have used this chippy for many years but have only just looked at its Tripadvisor entry. I cannot believe the two reports posted so far!Last week, after a hard day in the garden, we decided on the easy meal option of takeaway fish and chips. I arrived around 6.30 on a Thursday and was lucky enough to find a parking spot just outside. There were a few people in the queue but it moved swiftly as there were three efficient young servers behind the counter.There was no rock eel available but this is not unusual around here so I went for our alternative favourite of haddock and chips twice. This was available immediately as the frying team were carefully balancing their delivery, so much so that a new small batch was in the oil but "unfortunately" to avoid a couple of minutes wait, I had to have a large fish. Both pieces were excellent and my wife thought her medium haddock all she could manage. (A previous comment of a small portion is ridiculous, in our opinion). The chips were crisp on the outside, soft in the centre just as they should be, and both fish and chips had been well drained. They had obviously been cooked in oil at the right temperature for the right time - nothing soggy about this meal.As you may see from my other reviews, I have no connection with any restaurant, hotel or takeaway but like to give honest reflection of my wife's and my own opinions of the establishment and the food. The Fishnchicken is a well run traditional fish and chip shop that serves good food. Our meal last Thursday was testament to that.Don't believe the gloom merchants - try it for yourself.

Never order the fish never is fresh batter and just really soggy. not nice!So find something else on the menu id reccomend. When ever i go in its not busy, Surely at these times fish could be cooked fresh?

This chippy is in a lovely old building which was the royal kitchens of King James' palace in Royston. One fish and two chips were over £7. The very small and thin fish fillet was encased in soggy batter and the chips were flaccid. I am looking at them as I write this to make sure I am not being unfair. I should have returned them but it was late and raining. I feel ripped off.
