Master Fryer in North Hertfordshire

Got the chicken fillet burger was very good and chips were okay too. Not a long wait either

I tried my first taste of master fryers recently, and it was super delicious it's not too greasy and not too dry. The staff are super kind, and they have chip forks. 100% will come again

They don’t let you in with your own drinks and food will go cold quickly. They get your orders wrong. Sometimes they overcharge you and they dont care when you mention it. Horrible.

Nice Fish and Chips in the town centre. Chips and curry sauce were fab, however the sausage tasted a bit off, but it was cooked properly. Cheaper than most fish and chip shops in the area, so will probably be returning.

Best tasting chips I've ever had. Crispy on the outside, soft in the middle & piping hot.

What was once a great chippy has suddenly gone down hill the fish being hot and delicious was let down by cold and not so nice chips the battered sausage was cold once home not sure what as happened but won't be going again.

Eww found a black hair in my chips (I’m blonde). Put me right off, will not be going back. Yuck!

Hard to review this place as I waited in the shop for about 3 minutes why the lad was playing with his phone so I walked out . Must not need the trade .

A very large portion for a reasonable price , would use again

New to the area and wanted to get fish and chips for dinner so tried Master Fryer because it had the best score and reviews. Not sure if it was an off night but it was some of the worst fish and chips my husband and I have ever had. Soggy and flavourless fish and watery mushy peas, the chips were the only redeeming item but even after asking twice for salt and vinegar tasted unseasoned. Also no scraps which was surprising, but after having the fish, no wonder, there was no crispy batter to fall off it for scraps!

Worst Fish & Chips ever! Chips inedible as they had been left on the counter pre cooked and left in tins. Scampi are divided into three to make three portions. Chicken was dry and over cooked and extremely small. Fish had been over filleted so it was paper thin. The saveloys were the only thing we didn't throw away. Never again!

This used to be the best fish and chip shop in Royston however yesterday 31.07.23 I bought my neice and me some chips and they must of been fried about 5 times. They were hard and unedable. Such a shame as it was amazing.

Fish wasn't freshly cooked batter was hard obviously cooked hours before being sold

The plaice and chips is very good and the mix kebab is very tasty and a very good portion for 2, Staff seem friendly.

They cook their fish fresh, so there may be a wait. Shop's nearby so you can have a wander. Nice fish and chips.

Usually I enjoy my chips from here, but on 19.1.23 they looked and tasted stale. I had to throw them. The fried chicken was ok.

We ordered Cod and chips, fish cake and chips, wasn't overly busy. Order was ready within five minutes. The chips were over cooked looked liked the previous nights chips, the cod was hard not fresh and the fish cake looked like Road kill. Disappointed and shall not be returning.

This has been my favourite chippy in town since I was at middle school but our last 3 visits were so poor I've had to stop using them, portion size halfed and chips so undercooked they still looked raw. Such a shame.

Chips ok, but the chicken was hardly edible, not nice would avoid chicken.

Despite only being open 30 mins the chips seemed very tired & the fish was moist but sloppy.Not really what I call fresh fish & chips. Quantity ok but quality not. Shame because other reviews seemed good.

Master Fryer is by far the best chippy in North Hertfordshire. Their burgers are awesome too! Would not go anywhere else for fish n chips

The best chip shop in Royston. The staff are always very friendly and welcoming. Great variety of items on the menu. The medium fish is the size of a whale and cooked to order, so allow time for this and the chips are double cooked, so always nice and crispy. The portions of chips are also huge, so always worth considering sharing a portion with someone else.

Just used for the first time and it was delicious. Only had medium cod & chips but it was huge, actually couldn't finish it all. Will be going back again. The staff were really friendly to and offered to carry my bag to the car as I am on crutches. Fab x

Got a couple of potions of fish and chips from here on a Monday night as we were travelling through the town - they were really good. The chips were fresh and crispy, and the fish was also fresh and a good size. I’d happily have food from here again.

What a surprise. We enjoyed an excellent fish & chip takeaway. Excellent piece of fish, freshly cooked along with fresh chips. We also had an accompanying salad. Great value and good service.

They always seem to have freshly cooked chips, and they're not greasy either. Friendly staff who are willing to chat with you while you're waiting.

The food was discusseding all 3 off us have there food all 3 off us was very ill and that is all we had had two eat all day they where leaving uncooked chips on the hot counter and then they over charged me and under changed me horrible place

have given this place a few chances. Chips always grand but fish on the third try was still more batter than fish , over cooked close to burnt. Disappointing. Price same as other chippers 8/9 for large cod and chips.

We had senior portions of cod&chips excellent taste ample portion size.

This place has fabulous fish and great chips but they undercook everything. The batter is always soft and soggy. The battered sausages are great quality, but again, they leave the batter pale and soggy. 5 Minutes more in the fryer guys!

I found the cod poor quality thin fish also under cooked batter again not crispy like it should be the chips not as fresh as the should be soggy was £7..50 for cod an chips so not cheap alas the fish definitely was 😩

Cooked to order - if you're taking away you can ring ahead and they'll have it ready for you. Delicious fresh fish in huge portions. Nice guys with friendly service and a big menu in case fish & chips isn't your scene. Would be my first choice for fish & chips in Royston based on service alone.

Had fish & chips; had a fairly long wait - the fish was a bit oily (it had soaked through the box by the time I got home) and it was a bit chewy (as if it had been unfrozen quickly!) - chips were good.

You can ring ahead and order and then collect which saves a bit of time. Friendly staff, very nice food.
