Recently visited to celebrate my mums 60th birthday staff were so friendly and kind, went out of their way to make sure it was a special meal to remember. Food was great! Will be returning- highly recommend !

Lovely atmosphere with the open doors onto the balmy street, staff were really friendly and helpful. Food was ok but fish dishes were poor - the mackerel was burnt and overcooked and the sole had far too much butter for my taste. Given the price of the meal, we’d probably go somewhere else in future. Which is a shame as it has a lot of potential

What an amazing service, you can see that they care. Not just because it's expected of them but because they treated us like guests in their own house. And not just us, but everyone around. Calling taxis for people, making sure that everyone is comfortable and enjoying the experience. Taking time to speak to us! Fife stars, 6 if it was possible!

All of the people in Lussmnns are realy nice and welcoming, especially Stuart!

Visiting on business and needed a place for dinner. I was very happy, the crab linguine had ample crab and flavorful. I had reviewed the menu outside but the description of the special which was a chicken Fricassee sounded so good I selected it and was as good as it sounded. Pleasant restaurant and friendly staff. Service could have been a bit faster but I was not in a hurry.

Lovely restaurant, the food is always great! I’ve ate here 3-4 times and never had any issues with gluten free (I have celiac disease so have to be very careful) the staff are very attentive it’s, definitely worth a visit

We have been to Lussmanns Hitchin a couple of times and the food and service are top notch. Prices are reasonable for the experience and it's always a great atmosphere there.

Our favourite place to go for date night, the service and food are always fantastic, the specials never disappoint and the wine list features something to go with every dish!

We recently celebrated my father in laws 90th birthday at lussmans, Hitchin. We arranged for private dining menu and area and we were not disappointed. For the birthday, we were a party of 15, at a lunchtime session. The communication was excellent, with lussmans, before during and after the celebration. They allowed us to go in a few hours early to set up, balloons etc. When guests arrived, nothing was too much trouble. They quickly learnt our names, they sang happy birthday, candle in a cupcake etc. They were so respectful. The food...amazing. so many compliments after. Great service and so helpful. We would not hesitate to recommend them, and finally, thank you for making a 90 year old man feel special on his birthday . 😀

Really friendly staff and nice enough atmosphere but sadly really poor food. All our starters were tiny, poorly presented and tasted very average and mains were pretty flavourless. The set menu price wasn't bad but it seemed like an attempt at fine dining just so they could serve small portions instead of high quality dishes. Wouldn't return or recommend which is a shame because the staff were lovely.

Love love love Lussmans! Forgotten how much I love their food. Had the hake and the most delicious dessert, lemon posset with ginger - to absolutely die for! Partner had amazing steak. Great service too.

My daughter and I went to the Hitchin restaurant last night . The service was great, we had a lovely waitress and the food was delicious. I had Hake and my daughter had slow cooked beef. Really recommend for good food and great staff .

Great little restaurant. Food was really well prepared. The waiting staff very good and knowledgeable.

My lemon sole was cooked perfectly,service was good until coffee when they forgot our order and we had to remind them.

Good lunch on a Saturday. Relaxed atmosphere. Reasonably priced. Food was good. Excellent staff. Returned recently for fish and chip Friday. Top class! Since tried evening menu on a Thursday. Again a very good experience with good food and service. Look forward to visiting again soon.

Our second visit here in three weeks. Again our food was excellent. Starters, my wife had Sardines while I had the Crab. For mains my wife had Sea Trout and I had the Lemon Sole. Both were excellent. Our Ukrainian waitress was very attentive and very knowledgeable about the food. Would definitely recommend paying this restaurant a visit.

First time since lockdown that someone took our coats to hang up. So much nicer than draping over our chairs. Lovely staff and excellent fish. Nice gentle atmosphere.

Not the best and was expecting more. Unfortunately red wine was spilt by the waiter and was expecting more as it went over two people out of our party and over the table

I don't usually leave reviews but we went out for dinner tonight for my dad's 70th birthday for a table of 13 of us with a mix of all ages and the service was exceptional I think our waiter was called Michael he was brilliant and a credit to the restaurant the food was excellent and we all left very pleased with the whole experience would definitely recommend to others

Today was my first visit to Lussmans. I was dining with my 88 year old bestie for her birthday and had advised the restaurant in advance that she has some sight and mobility issues (and also that she'd love a birthday fuss!). They could not have been kinder and friendlier; she was genuinely touched. The food was also delicious and good value for money. Prices are what they are these days, and I think I'm often a bit disappointed with how good things actually taste vs what they cost, but both my friend and I really enjoyed each of our 3 courses (one on the set menu, one a la carte) and didn't begrudge the bill at all. I look forward to returning with other friends and family. Thank you.

Absolutely superb meal. I had a pork schnitzel with chilli linguine accompanied by mixed vegetables and a fig and ginger pudding for dessert. Lovely atmosphere and decor, with great service. We sat at a very cosy table for four at the end of the bar by the window next to the main door. I would certainly recommend.

We (my husband, my cousin, his cousin and I) went for a late lunch/early dinner (15:00) on 28 December 2023. We were served by a young man (20s, manbun, undercut) whose name I unfortunately did not get, even though he had also served us the last time that we were there. Needless to say that the food was fabulous as usual. As a born and brought-up central Londoner now living in Sevenoaks, Kent, who visits family in Hitchin every couple of months, this quality of food would command a much higher price. However, I would also like to give a shout out to him. He was so attentive and helpful throughout, again, and let us know who would be serving our table (I believe that it was the Restaurant Manager) when his his shift was over quite some time later (sorry, my fault, I am such a slow eater and talk too much!). All in all, another lovely visit to Lussmans. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back.

Such amazing food! I especially enjoyed the poached pear for dessert.

The price did not reflect the quality. Thinking that 3 of the party ordering Steak Frites and then actually being given the non-set meal steak (and accompanying price) meant a staggering bill for a party of 5. Food is good, bit not that good - standard bistro fair but not particularly special. I have been here several times... given the breadth of choice available in Hitchin I suspect it will be a long time before I consider Lussman an option again. Disappointing.

Lovely menu selection and hearty food. Good three course menu choice for £23.95. Servers attentive and pleasant. The design was good as acoustics worked, soft furnishings and padded ceiling to soften any noise. Very intimate and if I were local I’d become a regular. Lovely example of good value British European plates.

Visited on 17th November with family as we travelled down from the North East, menu was really appealing and the food was excellent, served by some enthusiastic staff and always smiling, would definitely recommend this restaurant.

The atmosphere was nice and the food was pleasant. However, service was very slow. We came for a late lunch on a Sunday, arrived nearly 3pm. We didn’t get our food until 4pm and finished at 5.30.

First time being here, definitely looking forward to a return visit.

This is the second time I've been here. Excellent spot. The vegetarian lamb style flatbread was one of the best things I've ever eaten, truly. Great service and nice atmosphere. Hope to stop in again in the future.

We went to Lussmanns for lunch on Thursday and really enjoyed it. The restaurant is immaculate and bright, and the service was excellent. We took the more limited fixed price menu, but everything we would have chosen from the a la carte menu was on there anyway. This is great value for money. The Kipper Pate was delicious , and Sole beautifully prepared and presented. The South African Sauvignon Blanc that is available is great with the fish. So, a very nice experience and we will look forward to returning.

Really disappointing. Table in the corner by the door, away from the main restaurant. Zero ambience and just quite an odd place to eat a meal. Tasteless and uninspiring food. Vegetables watery and unappealing, flat bread should’ve cost a fiver, max! Will not be returning, just hate paying for overpriced, mediocre food.

To be honest, my mum was a better fish cook than anyone at this restaurant. The fish cakes were overcooked, had way too thick battered coating and were very bland. The Dover Sole was not filleted and again it was overcooked. The saving grace here is the staff who are polite, attentive and helpful. The atmosphere in the restaurant is calm and the decor is pleasing. I wouldn't go back for the food but it would be a nice place to take friends who are visiting.

Had a relaxed Saturday lunch. Lovely atmosphere and surroundings, quality fixtures and fittings, and wonderfully comfortable chairs! The food was impeccable with the fixed priced menu very good value. The service was friendly, and attentive but not overly so. I also appreciated water being given without asking-its these little things that add to the experience.

My wife had her birthday meal here. The whole evening was lovely, staff were excellent and were very good with my child. Would definitely go again.

Saturday night birthday dinner was an absolute hit! Food was tasty, balanced, and perfectly prepared. Service was impeccable. All spot on! Can’t recommend the chocolate mousse enough!

Went here with my girlfriend on my birthday. This was the first time we had been here. Really enjoyed our night. The food was delicious, and the service from Michael was exceptional in knowledge of the dishes and friendly. Highly recommended and we'll certainly come back.

Great sunday lunch for 3. The place was quite so a very relaxed atmosphere. The service was fantastic and food was delivered quickly. Dishes were good if not memorable. £129 for 3 set menus + drinks+ deserts. Not cheap but enjoyable.

Very little short order food on the menu. My sole was overcooked to the point of having little texture. Vegetables bland and uninteresting. Starter sprats mainly batter and accompanying sauce green ( best description I can come up with) Staff very friendly and atmosphere good. Prices high given the quality.

I booked Lussmanns for a family lunch. I was attracted by the menu which features a great mix of veggie, vegan and pescatarian options, as well as meat. The food was great, really fresh and tasty. A main of Whole Cornish sole with Café de Paris butter was so delicious I could eat it every day! We ordered from both the main and the set menus. The set menu is great value for the quality of the produce used. Our waiter Michael was super friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be back!

Unreasonably expensive, disappointing experience. Booked in for a special occasion for a couple, no consideration was given for it. To mention the table allocation among plenty of possible options, couldn't have been more inappropriate for a couple never mind for the special occasion. Food had some highlights, all the rest did not deserve quite a bill to remember.

We went on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. It was really quiet. The waiter was lovely but not overly attentive, as often happens when a restaurant is quiet. The food was sublime! Cooked so well. I had the set meal with the King Oyster mushrooms and had a whole plaice with steamed veg for a main. Simple but elegant and BEAUTIFULLY cooked. My uncle had the pea soup and the chicken legs and steamed veg for a main. He was throughly satisfied. Will definately be going back

Excellent children's menu, large portions and the puddings were huge! Attentive service on a Tuesday evening, a very enjoyable meal and a special treat for the birthday girl.

The service is not great and the food is over rated & over priced wouldnt go again Would be nice to have bill placed on a plate and put in front of you rather than heres you bill this is our 2nd visit thought we would try again as havnt been for a long time would not recommend

Best place I've eaten in Hitchin. Food was really tasty tonight, wide selection on the menu, and nice atmosphere. Service a little on the slow side, but was a busy night, so we'll forgive you. Overall, we really enjoyed our evening here.

The set menu had a good range and included a chicory salad with ewes' cheese, kipper pate, sole, steak and chips, rhubarb with orange sorbet and date pudding were all delicious. The waiter was attentive and friendly and we had an enjoyable and relaxed lunch.

I attended the restaurant with my partner as it appeared a nice place to eat from the outside. To be honest the choice of food was not really appealing but we were already there so though we would go ahead and order. I chose chicken and my partner ordered steak and chips. The chicken did taste good with the sauce, however I asked for an alternative to mushroom, and noticed that they did not remove it completely. The green beans was a nice alternative but the meal was not filling so it was just chicken in sauce and green beans. The steak had all the flavour but as it was not tender but chewy it left my partner feeling very disappointed. Desert - Bramley Apple Crumble with nuts and Ice Cream So there was a lot of sauce that taste like maple syrup (very sweet), could not see or taste any apples and as for the crumble it seemed as if they took a table spoon of crumble and sprinkled over the sauce and called it 'Apple crumble'. To top it all we felt it was over priced. The only one positive I would like to report is the service, Ellie was very professional and made us feel very much at home.

Lussmanns is a great little chain and the emphasis is on little, food where the know the history and source. Mid priced but you get what you pay for and here is quality at a fair price point.

Prices listed outside were different to the menu inside but the food was top quality and we loved it.

We were looking for somewhere to eat (stupidly hadn’t booked anywhere and it was a Friday night !) A friend had recommended Lussmanns as very sustainable and they had just the one free table. Lovely starters (treacle salmon and chicken terrine) followed by fish and chips - a huge portion with mushy peas 😋😋😋 And Mad Squirrel beers 🍻🍻🍻

Three of us had a lovely lunch here today. All three courses were spot on and Ellie our waitress was delightful. Would highly recommend.

Great meal and excellent value. The options were varied and the set menu was excellent value at £21.50 for 3 courses. I had a fishcake with poached egg on top for main and it was cooked to perfection!

What a lovely place this is. Service here is great. Creme Brulee was like glass on top..

Below average, bland, overpriced food.

I visited with some friends and neither of us had visited the establishment. We were welcomed by friendly staff and that service didn't change over the course of the whole evening. The manager was very knowledgeable about the menu and helped myself avoid diary as I have a dairy intolerance. We would happily visit again or another one of the Lussmanns establishments!

The food is always lovely. The service on our last visit was polite but slightly distant. Also had to wait a long time between starter and main course. Overall a nice visit, though.

Lovely meal with wife and friend. Table was for 8pm and some menu items were short or gone. Obviously a very busy place. Table was comfortable and service attentive. Food was good. I had whitebait and nice but could do with a little spice. I always add a touch of cayenne. Belly Pork for main which was succulent and really good. Dessert was great too. Would definitely go again.

Had a lovely summers evening meal to finish off our vacation. Service was impeccable, food was lovely, and the ambiance superb. Have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

Excellent and friendly service. Had mackerel to start which was delightful. My partner had Hunter's linguine to start (with rabbit) he loved it. Mains were excellent (steak frites and chicken schnitzel). We both had black cherry cheesecake. One of the most delicious desserts we've ever tasted. There's a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks and a relaxed ambience. A highlight has to be the effort made with a garden salad. Perfectly dressed with sliced cornichons, capers and beautifully prepared leaves and cucumber.

Had a lovely anniversary meal. Didn't know anything about the place before dining there. We were very pleased with the service and quality of food. Would recommend.

Great lunch indoors but wide open windows make it fell like we are outside. Good summer lunch deals. Had sole and fishcakes that they were both very good. Service was very friendly and professional.

Tried the new menu out on Thursday! It was lovely! The black cherry cheesecake was so tasty and refreshing and the manageress was so sweet :)! Will definitely be back no doubt ❤️
