This is the best fish and chip shop in the area. Good food at very reasonable prices served by lovely, friendly people. Be aware however they only take cash, no cards or cheques. Highly recommended 😊

Had a large rock and chips. Had to wait for them to cook the rock fresh. Well worth it. Paid cash. Not sure if they take card yet

Stopped in on a whim because I was parked outside and was hungry. Was welcomed with a smile on entry and served promptly. I ordered a small code and chips and decided to eat in. Was brought good selection of sauces etc and the food came out fairly quickly. I was impressed with the fish and the batter was nice too. Little crunch on the end but not teeth breaking. Good flavour and nice tasting cod. Chips were fine. Not the best but decent. Portion size was perfect for me. Usually chip shops shovel a million chips onto your plate but this was just the right amount. Owner thanked me on the way out which was a nice touch. I would definitely go again!

It's a fish and chip shop with a seating area to the side to eat in. Offers all you'd expect from a chippy even spam fritters. Reasonable priced. Parking outside.

I was feeling peckish and so I decided to get some food from the Baldock Fish Bar. It is located in the High Street and is close to the War Memorial so you should be able to find it. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. You can eat in their restaurant or you can take it away to eat. I chose the takeaway option and the food was really good. Highly recommended!

On a mission to rediscover Baldock’s chippy shops. Never been a fan of this place. Really oily to the point where in doesn’t make me feel good. Also, cash only business. Same way I dislike a card only business, I dislike something that’s card only.

Everyone has their favourite fish and chip shop and this is ours. We visit a few times per month and can honestly say we've never had a bad experience. Typically we only get fish and not anything else like pies but it's always fresh and cooked to perfection.

Just went to this chippy on advice of my friends. Chips where caked in oil . I walked approximately 25metres to a bench and the paper was soaked in oil . Very very oily . Not good . There is a better chip shop within 100metres . AVOID this place , not good at all

I’ve lived just outside Baldock for ten years and dive in for takeaway chips (and mushy peas!) once a week. So consistently good and lively friendly welcome. Seriously excellent chips, generous portions, better even than the much-hyped ones in Stevenage.

The chips were lovely and crisp on the outside and fluffy in, fish was hot and moist inside and crunchy batter

Got cod and chips for my partner and he really enjoyed his meal. Would get fish and chips from here again 👍🏽

I have a medical exemption so I can not wear face covering , I made the staff aware and provided proof and they publicly embarrassed me and made me feel awful and ironically the staff didn't even have face coverings on. Discussing behaviour. Not sure how the food is as I was too intimidated by the staff to stay. If you have a disability or exemption do not visit this place as they discriminate ,there is a much nicer fish and chip shop down the road where everyone is welcome and treated the same.

Against the backdrop of the many 5 star reviews I'm afraid I found it to be very average. Chips were soggy and the chicken (for me anyway) was over cooked and tough.

The food is amazing and well worth the money. Portions are fair and not overpriced. Altogether a complete 5 star, 10 out of 10!

We have been buying our Fish and Chips and other food here for the last 34 years. Many other fish and chip shops and other take aways have been and gone over the years but the Baldock Fish Bar remains. 😊😊😊

Fish is great in a light crispy batter, but a little on the small side. The chips are of a good size portion but but soggy. Overall great value and cooked to order so piping hot.

By far better than the other fish shop in Baldock. Portions are ample and always gorgeous. Staff are very friendly. Might be time to take cards though.

The fish is okay but I’ve tried this place a couple of times and the chips are always rubbish- I don’t want tiny bits of potato, soggy and stuck together - please try and fry a decent chip

The fish is so good from here it must be the crispiest batter ive ever tasted from any chip shop but why can’t they get the chips right? Tiny soggy bits of potato all stuck together I would’ve thought this was the easy bit🤷🏻‍♂️ Tried this place several times and the chips are always the same – awful, unfortunately most of them are in the bin🤦‍♂️☹️

Me & my partner been here few times as nice portions size. That's why we put up with few drawbacks I have mentioned down below. Staff are friendly. The restaurant side could do with updating the seats, decor, as seeing cooker in there don't look great. Tables do look bit dirty so I always wipe where I sit.

I headed here for chips under recommendation from others. Seemed nice enough, staff were quick to serve and friendly but the chips were probably some of the worst I've had. It was a mixture of old and chewy along with undercooked raw potatoes. Very weird. Won't be going back.

I wanted to love this F&C place in Baldock. And it is fairly unique, albeit in a disappointing way. The chips were super-hot but not crispy - more soggy. And the fish might have been cooked a bit hot because the batter was super crispy and tasted a bit burnt. However, the fish itself (haddock and plaice) was fine. My guess is that the F&C shop was a bit overwhelmed when we visited, and their quality dropped. Anyways - you only get one shot at pleasing a customer and I won't be returning. I was so tempted to give 2 stars out of 5, but I liked the people working there....

PLEASE FORGIVE MY LAST REVIEW ABOUT FISH N CHICKEN IN BALDOCK AS I GOT THE CHIPPY'S NAME WRONG AND ITS THIS ONE WE LOVE! What more can I say other than the best chips and curry sauce in Baldock! We spoil ourselves with a wee bag of chips every couple of months and there is always a smile given as we walk through the door, and a monster bag of chips to walk back out with. Great fun if you don't eat too many!

Avoid any fish and chips that has saveloy's in a tray of water.

I've had fish and chips from here and always had cod, went for a change & had rock unfortunately that was not cooked well, it is their first let down but will give them another try before I take my business else where

Fantastic fish - the haddock comes on one size enormous with very crisoy batter. Tyoical cjip shop chips a little soggy for me but my wife loves them. Very large portions and good cale for money.
