We had pre-booked an evening meal for our Ruby Wedding Anniversary while staying at the Old Waverley Hotel. I had requested a table with a view if possible and we had a corner table in the window with a view of Edinburgh Castle and the Scott Memorial. There is a fixed price menu (3 courses for £24.95) with about 4 choices for each course. My husband & I both had the same choices: Garlic Chilli King Prawn Bruschetta served with rustic bread, tomato, basil, salsa, mix leaves & lemon wedge Chicken Prosciutto on a bed of creamed potatoes with mixed vegetables Scottish Cheese Platter served with chutney, cheese biscuits & grapes We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the food was well presented and tasty, and the service was efficient and friendly. We enjoyed our breakfasts as well, tea & coffee brought to the table and the hot/cold buffet with cooked breakfast (including haggis), choice of juices, toast, cereals, yogurt, fruit compote, fresh fruit and croissants.

Having read some of the most recent reviews I wasn't sure what to expect from my first visit. I can honestly say I had nothing to worry about and I was thoroughly impressed with everything Six by Nico had to offer. The service was great - I couldn't fault anyone, everyone was friendly, polite and professional. The food was amazing (Land of Oz), each course surpassed my expectations. A very enjoyable evening, I will definitely be returning.

Although I'd booked for afternoon tea the staff were unaware and presented us with A La Carte menus. When the food arrived it was quite theatrically presented with dry ice, but that's were the drama stopped. The bread in the sandwiches was ordinary sliced supermarket bread, some crusts still on and not very appealing. Everything, fillings and bread, was soft with no variation of texture. At this level of restaurant we expected home baked or artisan bread. The scones were good but came with no butter and miniscule amounts of jam and cream for 2 scones each. This left the scones quite dry to eat. The cakes weren't brilliant. The pistachio battenburg's marzipan was so soft and sticky we could hardly pick them up, the pastry in the éclair was hard and stale but the mini mince pies were lovely and the chocolate mousse snowball was a highlight. Service was perfunctory, we had to ask for our tea, and when it came I had to ask for lemon for my Earl Grey. The service didn't warrant the 12% service charge, although we grudgingly paid it. For £107 this was poor value for money and we were so disappointed as we expected far more from The Ivy.

I used to frequent Cafe Truva at the shore a number of years ago and was looking forward to visiting their Lady Lawson street branch on a visit to town. What a disappointment! The ‘panini spice’ that I used to love was a delicious mix of spiced chicken, mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes served with a lovely Turkish-salad meze. Unfortunately there must be profit margins to protect here and the quality of product has been compromised beyond all recognition...bland strips of processed chicken, one piece of sun dried tomato all cooked without seemingly much care. The side salad used to be a real treat served with feta cheese, stuffed vine leaves, tzatziki and cous cous, instead you are now served some chopped lettuce, tomato and cucumber with no dressing.....distressing stuff. I hope they are reading and take these comments into consideration, will not return in a hurry which is a crying shame.

Chris y Hazel

Came to Edinburgh on a 2-day stint to get a taste of the city. Seen this coffee place as one of the recommended and went in eager to taste. Upon entering, it was an unwelcoming atmosphere. In the brief interaction with one of the guys, he was extremely rude and embarrassed my friend in front of other patrons. We were tourists and visiting a number of places to get a sense of Edinburgh in general, incl. all the different recommended bakeries/coffee shops etc. We were not aware of the 'ONLY SPEND IN OUR SHOP, EAT FROM OUR SHOP' policy they had in place, and so took a snack from a local bakery that we seen recommended. Had we known that he was going to inhospitably call it out infront of everyone and make us feel unwelcome, we would never have went in. From a tourist point, its restrictive and detracts from the overall experience of exploring the area's culinary offerings - maybe the guys should keep this in mind for future given that Edinburgh is a city full of tourists? I should also mention that I initially was going to buy a snack from their cafe, as my friend had their own but I had none, however there was only one non-fresh looking croissant left on display? So we were not even aware they even did snacks. We then sat in uncomfortable silence for the duration, quickly drank the coffee, waited to pay (at least 7minutes) a hefty sum for a tiny coffee. Definitely dont recommend for tourists and will not be back

Didn’t have half the cocktails in stock, messed our orders up waited 50 minutes for our drinks, ordered a pina colada and when telling the staff member that we thought something was off with the drink, the immediate response was ‘well you’ve been drinking it still’. Rude staff and don’t recommend, not worth the money for the price you pay!

If I could leave a 0 out of 5 stars I would , Angus served us and he was the rudest individual towards us Irish girls who just wanted a bottle of Prosecco to start our girlie night out , we spilled a drink and politely asked for blue roll to dry off my table and he said no I then said I please could I have some it’s on my clothes and the blue roll was thrown to me . Absolutely disgusting if we hadn’t of already paid we would have left , so disappointed to see this in 2024 . Disgraceful
