Bar Napoli in Edinburgh, City of

Cozy, tucked away, and just what I needed at midnight after a long day of travel. Service is quick and efficient, food is ready in minutes. If you choose to stay or to takeaway, they keep it easy. The pizzas are all one size, and are probably best described as “person” pizzas, although if you added sides it could be split by two less than starving people. Didn’t try their pasta, but will be back to do so!

Really great food and atmosphere, with helpful staff, even got a complimentary shot and additional desert for my birthday celebrations, definitely recommend, Riyad was very nice and helpful, bonding over Mohamad Belloumi, as he is friends with him and I'm a Hull City fan myself being from there, great night!

Delicious homemade food, service was lacking a bit but very quick to get your food to you.

Had a very bad experience the other night here. I wanted a takeaway and was given a menu and was asked to order immediately. The menu doesn't really have much variety and I ordered a simple margaritta pizza and some pasta. It was awful! The pasta was all greasy and oily, tasted terrible! The pizza was all burnt as well. Would not recommend at all.

We had a lasagne, a 🦐 spaghetti and garlic bread yesterday. Both taste beautiful! We will definitely go again next time in Edinburgh.

Absolutely shocking customer service from manager / phone receptionist- absolutely shocking food came stone cold as if they have your food premade and micro it and send it to you - I ordered it took just way driver 30 mins - shocking service

I was sooooo happy with my meal!!! This place is legit. Open kitchen. Chefs are busy but they make the small kitchen work. It’s impressive to watch. Great work guys. Seriously. Wait staff also very attentive. Food was so amazing!!!! I’d def be back next time I visit the city. So good!!

The pizzas were cold and very thin missing the middles very disappointing the risotto was cold too

Food was pretty good, however pizza was mediocre at best. Said it came with porchini, but they put basic mushrooms on it. Server was rude when I mentioned this. We ordered four items on the menu for 3 people, and the server scoffed at us and rolled his eyes for not ordering more food. We barely could finish the four plates of food and were very glad we didn't order more food. Wouldn't eat here again.

Lovely little restaurant with nice decor and great atmosphere. The staff was welcoming but a bit of an overkill having 3 different waiters asking if everything was ok with our starters and main. Ideal for a quick bite to eat, as it's quick service. The food tasted nice.

£12.50 lunch deal. Would put zero stars if I could. Very greasy pizza; deep fried, like something out of a late-night takeaway. Tiny portion of tiramisu at the end; four teaspoons. Tasteless. Dry. Genuinely terrible. Would not recommend.

Delivery time was long. And food was stone cold when I received it. All I got from the delivery guy was I am sorry it’s late & cold

If I could give any less stars I would awful restaurant, terrible staff, not accommodating at all, pizza was forgotten about to top it all off. Would NOT recommend

The food is good and the staff are very respectful and cheerful and their behavior is nice, especially the Algerian Toto Madri Titi 😅 God bless him. The menu contains meals that contain alcohol, but tell them to make it without alcohol.

Late night great food. Kind staff. No seating after 11 pm. But because I was with and older friend that needed a seating they allowed it. Very nice

Just walked in no booking after 9 o'clock at night very welcoming and no problem in seating us despite appearing busy. Had a veal dish partner had lasagna then we shared a tiramisu as neither of us could have managed a dessert Each. Had an espresso with Grappa to finish off a very good meal. If we are back in Edinburgh we will be back again

Absolutely delicious!! They were so accommodating when we turned up without a booking, very polite and attentive. The food turned up so quickly, was fresh and piping hot and was so delicious! Proper Italian food for a reasonable price and a lovely atmosphere, oh and the house wine was divine! Thank you very much.

A must visit Italian restaurants which open late night in Edinburg. All the dishes we had were delicious, I would recommend.

Being on a budget I was disappointed that there was no set lunch menu, even though their website says differently. Not the friendliest of staff either so just 2 stars from me. Although the pasta was quite good

Not a bad place, however… Their website said they offer a lunch set menu special. The small print said it excluded bank holidays, July, and the Festival. It was neither of those things, so we should have been good. When we got there, we were told that the special wasn’t on because the festival was still on. It actually ended 4 days previously. The manager was trying to argue that “a” festival was still on. Where? Paris? Timbuktu? Because I can assure you there wasn’t one happening in Edinburgh. I think it’s important to make sure your website is clear about special offers. We stayed anyway and overall the food and service weren’t bad. My Calamari was a bit anaemic but tasted nice, and the garlic bread was cold. But the pasta dishes were good.

They don’t serve the lunch menu that is advertised on their website. Went in August, outside of Festival period and they refused to serve it. If you are going for the weekday lunch menu be very careful as may not exist. Otherwise normal Italian restaurant with normal prices.

I’m shocked at how bad this pizza was, stone cold and unbelievably salty. One of the pizzas was inedible as was so salty

Waiter was more than unfriendly and food was not good. In addition, tips are charged without any information before payment. I would never go to this restaurant again as it is an imposition.

Delivery time on the website stated 20-35 minutes. It was over an hour. The food was cold. I am very disappointed to have paid £20 for cold food. I suggest people only order salad going forward.

Went here today with 2 friends. Their meals were excellent. I chose the ministoni soup with garlic cheesy bread. Soup arrived but was barely hot and was really just a basic vegetable soup. Cheesy garlic bread arrived late in the day. Not the meal I had hoped for.

Food ok service very poor hadn’t even finished starter and main arrived. Latte warm had to get heated up. Prosecco flat.

It’s not bad. The place has got character and it’s in a great location. Nice buzz about the place and the staff are nice. The food is arguably tasty enough but slightly old school. The pasta dishes could maybe do with one less ingredient in them and they’d be bit better. The calzone could have sauce inside or on top with some cheese, and the sauce could be nicer/richer - most Italian places pride themselves on their tomato sauce no? Generally just a tiny bit more love for the food would make it really good. We also had a bit of an issue with the timing of our food coming out - pizzas fresh and hot but pastas a bit lukewarm after sitting for a while. It’s FINE but there’s better Italian out there for the same money (or less).

Lovely warming, homely food and such good service. We dined here on our 2 evenings in Edinburgh and loved it each time. The dishes were fresh and nicely executed . Riad was an amazing host - thank you !

Excellent food, my husband was looking for veal milanese and bar Napoli delivered. The only Italian in Edinburgh with it on the menu at the time and it was delicious. Very nice restaurant, authentic with lovely staff and great food. Highly recommend a visit!

I ordered a Coca-Cola, which arrived noticeably diluted and lacking in flavor. Additionally, I ordered a pizza with prosciutto; however, the prosciutto was extremely dry and tough, as though it had been cut the day before and left out. The cannelloni alla Fiorentina was bland and devoid of any discernible taste. The tiramisu was also disappointing—dry, flavorless, and served in a very small portion, approximately 6 cm by 6 cm. On a positive note, the waiter was polite throughout the service. We visit Italy frequently and are well-acquainted with authentic Italian cuisine. Unfortunately, what we experienced here did not reflect the quality or flavor of true Italian food.

Very good food, authentic & fresh. Neighborhood restaurant environment. Our original server was not too friendly. Appeared to have had a bad day. But Riad from Algeria replaced original server. He was fantastic, extremely accommodating, & and apologetic. Offered complimentary dessert, cannoli, to compensate experience. The cannoli was extremely tasty, heavenly!!

Food is average - ok but not amazing, staff nice enough but a bit chaotic, rushing around, had to ask multiple times for things. If you are hungry then it’s fine but not sure I would rush back.

Restaurant was nice from the outset, then told to wait 15 minutes fore being rushed and stuck down in the basement with no one else (big queue but no one else stuck in basement) overall very average, food not great and atmosphere left a lot to be desired, bang average

Lovely fresh cooked traditional Italian food. Reasonable prices

Had dinner with family and friends. Marina Risotto was fabulous. The wife had steak and was very tasty, melted in the mouth. Definitely will come back for another serving any time. Service was excellent and we got free desert from the chef :) . An added bonus!

Authentic italian food in big portions. Desserts looked homemade and were irresistible! The italian staff added value to the whole experience.

They charge you the tip directly without telling you that it is optional...

Ambiance was nice and cozy, but the food was mediocre, if not less. The pizza marguarita had too much cheese and no tomato sauce, and the lasagne al forno was just ok. But the biggest scam of all was by far the home made bread and butter; it was literally two slices of white sandwich bread anyone could have bought at a supermarket put into a toaster…with butter, it sure wasn’t home made! I do not recommend this address.

I’m Italian but not one of those picky ones that expects food on par as I find in Italy. After all this is Scotland! Saying that we are in the capital here and you would expect some decent standards. Party of 11 on a week night. Pasta was overcooked and veal cutlet tasteless as 2 others who reported the same. This place is below mediocrity

The quantities are very generous, I couldn't even finish the carbonara. Correct price I paid £19.45 for food (£14.95)+cider, fast and attentive service. For the price I think it is quality food at a correct price within Edinburgh.

Authentic Italian restaurant atmosphere, including busy and slightly surly waiters. 😅 But the food we had for a weekday dinner was amazing. Had the pepperoni pizza and tropical pizza, both were great. The spaghetti Bolognese (with generous amount of parmesan cheese) had the most amazing sauce, we actually ordered a second plate after the first plate. The wait wasn't too long, given the restaurant was almost full, and from where we were sitting, we were impressed with the speed and precision the chefs were operating at. And prices were very reasonable for the location and quality.

We ordered a pizza and a starter. It came only the starter and the pizza never arrived at home. I called to arrange why my pizza didn’t arrive and that never was an option. So we paid for the fees for two items and we claim one item. No good service and bad customer service

If Bar Napoli has zero fans I am dead. Even when they were closing up for the night they made me feel so welcome and the food is always 10/10

Ordered food. Specifying a severe nut allergy (pepperoni pizza and bruschetta) asking for no nuts or pesto. Both came with extra pesto. The Pepperoni pizza had no cheese or tomato sauce only pesto and pepperoni

This is not authentic italian, horrible quality of food. Italian pizza should be thin and crispy this was a thick pizza with lots of rubbery cheese, tomatoes are like plastic.

Good service, good price, decent food and the atmosphere gives of Italian resteruants in New York, overall good place.

It’s our first night in Edinburgh and we didn’t get in until late. Our hotel recommended Bar Napoli and my nephew and I loved every bite. He had the Carbonara and I had mushroom risotto. Both dishes were perfect. We then ordered tiramisu and affogato and they were perfect. The tiramisu was one of the best I’ve ever eaten. We will definitely be back again!

Always find a warm welcome and great food in this family-run Italian restaurant. It's a v.small restaurant (upstairs), so expect to wait for table at busy times. Try some of the less familiar wines, they can be fantastic. Prices very reasonable for central Edinburgh.

Terrible service, super rude to foreigners, they wanted to force us to tip and since we didn't give it in full we didn't waste the coins, it's a good price for this city and the food not bad.

Tortellini with very delicious funji sauce and the exquisite pepperoni pizza dough, we will return.

I’m always a bit hesitant when it comes to good Italian food, especially since trying it in Italy, but this place met my expectations really well! 😁 I had ordered Pasta all’Arrabbiata and it was delicious. The sauce was perfectly balances with the right amount of chilli, garlic and olive oil! My partner also really raved about their Diavolo pizza 🍕 We liked this place so much that we went there again for our last meal in Edinburgh! Would definitely recommend! PS. It can get quite crowded, but the staff is very friendly and helpful!

The food is very good. I was just expecting a little bit more food on spaghetti and lasagne for the price. However it does comprise the experience. I would recommend it as far as you are not so hungry.

Place was very busy for a Thursday afternoon but staff were lovely and food was out quick and tasted great. Price was fantastic too. Only downsides they ran out of desserts and only had ice cream and although the staff were fantastic you could tell there wasn't enough people working and they didn't get a minute.

Great place to eat if you want good authentic Italian food! We went there 2 times on our holiday. The staff was really nice and the food was just great. If I ever come to Edinburgh again I would definitely come back

Had a fantastic time at Bar Napoli for dinner on a Saturday night. Very accommodating staff and taken very good care of by our server, Riad, who went above and beyond. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Went here with some work colleagues whilst visiting Edinburgh and it was really lovely! Was busy (Thursday night), which was a good sign and the food was good. I think the only downside was the interior looks like it could do with an update or replace some of the furniture. I would certainly recommend that you dine here and try it out.

Stop in with my misses after an event at the assembly room got asked about 6 times within 5 minutes if we were ready to order when we were still looking at the menu, when we did decide to order the server took my order with no problem but looked at her like she was worthless and irrelevant and scoffed as he walked away. Ordered a margarita pizza and cannelloni alla Florentine, the pizza base was so thin it had a hole in it, was burnt on the bottom but the crust was raw and there was that much oil and grease it soaked though the base and pooled on to the plate making the whole pizza soggy. The cannelloni was served in a cast iron dish with paint flacking off into the food, the pasta was over cooked and stuck to the pan, the “dash” of tomato sauce was more like a soup, got asked if wanted Parmesan with it even though it came with ricotta and Parmesan couldn’t find or taste it or the spinach, originally though they had brought out a lasagna. Don’t recommend if you’re out with your partner, not worth the money. Wouldn’t feed to my dog.

They're open late and atmosphere is fine but the quality of the food is really not great, unfortunately. The pasta is very bland, with lots of oil, and sauces that don't taste home made, the house wine is not very good either. Waiters and staff are very friendly. My caesar salad was okay, the chicken at least was freshly grilled.

This is hands down the best Italian food I’ve ever had. If you’re looking for late night eats in Edinburgh RUN here. My sister and I were only visiting Edinburgh for two days and we came here two days in a row for dinner, it was that good. Get the Gnocchi Della Casa (ask for it extra spicy!) and the Spaghetti Carbonara. Thank you to all the guys who work here, you made us feel so welcome! :)

I absolutely loved Bar Napoli! We just arrived in Edinburgh today and we were struggling to find a restaurant with an open kitchen past 10. We stumbled upon this one and could not have been happier!! Riad was our waiter and he was extremely warm! The ambience was amazing, the food was absolutely delicious. We got the spaghetti carbonara and the gnocchi della casa. Both were amazing. Highly recommend!

Don't trust the front! It was delicious, served quickly and generously. We ate as a family after a day of sightseeing and we had a great time. The service was great, the boss has a closed face but is very nice. No photos, we ate everything...
