Wow, OK, exceptional meal all-round. We were very rushed (thanks to a packed Fringe schedule!). We said to the staff on arrival that we didn't have much time. They were very nice about it, and put our order in straight away. Given our tight window of time, we weren't necessarily expecting a 10/10 meal - we would have been happy with almost anything. And yet, this really incredible 10/10 meal did in fact come out, very quickly indeed. We were astonished how quickly they were able to deliver such a delicious meal. Really exceptional.

This restaurant is near the Waverley train station - it’s closeby but not so close to charge exorbitantly. And the June lunch set is great value for money!! We had the different variety for each course, and my favorite is the cheese olive cake with poached egg. The running egg added a nice layer of richness and texture to the dish. The fish brandade in tomato was abit fishy to me otherwise an interesting dish. I had the braised beef in stock, which reminded me of home cooked French cooking. The apricot cakey tart wasn’t too sweet and the sabayon-like sauce complemented it well.

I think it was way overpriced and not creative. My dish was really small and nothing particularly exciting on there and too many spices in it. As a french person I'm afraid it did not live up to it's billing. Which was really expensive.

On a rainy afternoon, this was a wonderful discovery. A quality, authentic French brasserie, La Garrigue was a great find on a rainy Edinburgh afternoon. The roquefort souffle was top-notch, and my coq au vin blanc was outstanding. Unsurprisingly, the wine list is exceptional. The space is lovely, with views across to Calton Hill, but, be aware, it's in an old building and there's some slope to the floor in places.

Hi there, I just wanted to share my experience in La Garrigue in Edinburgh, on Friday 12th April 2024 as I had one of the worst nights of my life! I was there for dinner with 3 girlfriends. I had the cheese soufflé au Roquefort as starter and for my main I had the cod, mussels and risotto without the spicy sausage as I don't eat meat. The maitre offered me to have the risotto with some sauce from the mussels instead and I agreed. I had one glass of champagne. Everything seems fine although, I tasted that there was something on the mussels-sauce a bit different. I was totally fine then went to bed and I woke up by 3:15 am, felling very dizzy and I was violently sick! for what I remember I passed out twice at least and hit my face against the toilet, having a bruise above the eye and on my cheek. The reaction-sickness was very strong and intense that I fainted very quick, I was shivering, heavy breathing and with cramps. It was So awful😞absolutely terrible! The doctor thinks I got food poisoned from the mussels as she said, that with just one that wasn't right it would have caused me this as they are highly toxic. Could just been back luck but oh my God what a horrible experience!

Dined at La Garrigue on a wet and windy early Tuesday evening. Offset by the warm and friendly welcome from the waiting staff. The restaurant was quiet with only a few diners but the ambience was relaxed with the opportunity of those views of the cityscape. We were also greeted by the owner who remembered us from previous visits. Ordered off the "a la carte" and were delighted by the presentation and taste of all the dishes. Special mention to the starter of Roquefort cheese soufflé, the venison daube, the cassoulet and the desserts. Altogether made for a lovely dining experience in the depth of the Scottish winter. Definitely recommended!

Mature couple up toon for day . Real French restaurant. Typical table, chairs , decor etc. Have been for years so popped in for mid week lunch. Really fab food as you would get in France... not dumbed down for the UK. Lunch time menu is excellent value for money. As a starter OH had stilton and leek trart and me the mussels. The starters were real fab. For mains OH had the fish dish - Coley - was a really nice chunk of fish. I had the chicken which I really liked. Check out the photos. And 10 out of 10 forva nice cold beer. The waiting staff are excellent and attenative, And it was nice to meet the owner as well. Edinburgh can be a fickle place to get a good lunch . The La Garrique didnt dissapoint and was all as a remembered it from my last visit. All in it was £59.25 for 2 mains, beers x2 , glass of wine, 1x bread and a coffee. Donn't be put off that I only left 4 stars .. very very really do I give 5 stars . The La Garrigue is well worth a visit. I will def be back, soon !

I went here on a second date, I say that because it's an occasion that is fraught with nerves and the staff made it all easy. They were also very patient when we stayed talking for a long time. (It went well! :) I had the pigeon salad for a starter and it had a lovely balance of sweet (blackberries) tart (beets) and savory (the pigeon). My companion had another selection and I'm sorry I don't remember what it was, but he loved it. We both had the lamb for our main, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The sauce was a perfect complement. We both cleaned our plates. For dessert my date ordered the Ille Flottante and he loved it. I highly recommend you visit La Garrigue!

WORLD CLASS Made a booking for 2 people on a Saturday. It wasn't too busy so you could try and walk in. It got quite busy at like 8-9. Top notch service throughout our meal. We started off with a lobster bisque. There were these very delectable kale chips on top which were nicely crisped and salted. The bisque itself was lovely. It was very creamy and had the most delightful seafood taste running throughout with the occasional morsel of lobster. Then for the mains I got the Halibut which was awesome! Everything worked so well together on the plate. There were the purees which are always great to add a little more to each other element. You could taste how quality the Halibut was with each bite. My favourite though was the potatoes on the side. It was like a next level mashed potatoes and was really creamy, garlicy, and flavourful. I tried a litte of the patridge. Loved what was done with the mushrooms and potatoes on that dish. We ended with the lavender creme brulee which was amazing. It had the necessarily crispy top and was just the right amount of sweet. Loved my meal here and will definitely be back as I imagine every dish on the menu is a winner

Cute place for dinner, if you can get in…. We went on a Wednesday, checked around 630 pm and saw on Open table that there were several openings for 2 for 7, 715, 730 and on. I always prefer to not use OT because I’d prefer to save a small business whatever the cut OT takes for the reservation. We walked in a little after 7 and asked for a table for 2, and could see 2 open tables. When asked, the gentleman ( I presume the owner, but not sure) pouring some wine at the front desk asked if we had a reservation, we said no. He said he had no openings…. Which confused us because we saw so many openings on Open Table. So we walked out, walked around the corner and made a reso on Open table for 730. Walked in 5 mins later and was greeted by a woman who asked if we just made the OT reso :) We were seated immediately. Food was fresh and good, and not terribly expensive. Wine was good as well. Service was fine, didn’t seem like the servers were rushed or overworked. It’s possible that they didn’t want to seat us because they were understaffed but it didn’t seem like that was the case at all. So I’m not sure what the issue was that night. So, if you want to go, get a reso on OT.

I used to frequent Cafe Truva at the shore a number of years ago and was looking forward to visiting their Lady Lawson street branch on a visit to town. What a disappointment! The ‘panini spice’ that I used to love was a delicious mix of spiced chicken, mozzarella and sun dried tomatoes served with a lovely Turkish-salad meze. Unfortunately there must be profit margins to protect here and the quality of product has been compromised beyond all recognition...bland strips of processed chicken, one piece of sun dried tomato all cooked without seemingly much care. The side salad used to be a real treat served with feta cheese, stuffed vine leaves, tzatziki and cous cous, instead you are now served some chopped lettuce, tomato and cucumber with no dressing.....distressing stuff. I hope they are reading and take these comments into consideration, will not return in a hurry which is a crying shame.

My lunch was very poor value, in particular the salad. A very small serving of potato salad, watery Greek salad and 8-9 small mixed leaves cost £7.50. I thought it was coronation chicken but it was tatties ! Had to wait a while at the counter to be served too. Won’t be back.
