Went for a Sunday roast with friends, one of them being a chef. The service was excellent and the food superb, my chef friend is very critical but he even commented on the quality of food and especially the roast potatoes. Watched Anthony Mouse afterwards, playing some great ska/reggae tunes. A fabulous Sunday, what a way to end the week.

This is clearly a location that is on a journey and credit for that. However, when your journey consists of foams, froth, and ice with little or no substance, let alone alcohol then expect reviews like this. The staff are lovely. Welcoming and friendly. The vibe is very 70's, but as a 70's child, it needs significant work. The idea has to be applauded, but it lacks so much. The tasting menu at £39 per head would be acceptable if there was indeed a taste to accept, but sadly, there isn't. Of 5 tastes there was but 1, perhaps 2, that were indeed tasty, the rest were sadly lacking. The popcorn and cheese plates were welcomed distractions from what was otherwise uninspiring and overpriced. This is clearly a concept on a journey, and in time, it may well reach some.dizzy heights, but that is many Moons away and needs significant work to be a viable success. Having tried 5 "tasters," I feel I haven't had one drink. Which sums up the entire experience 🤔

Lovely spot for a drink - Used to live opposite when it first opened and regularly visited. Been back recently and its kept all its charm. Not usually huge on craft beer but there is some good lager options and the gin choice is vast. Looking forward to popping in again Friday. Might try the pizza this time :)

I took my children here for a meal Sunday evening. It's a nice, cosy little restaurant. The staff were friendly and the food was great. It must have been good because my daughter didn't leave anything! The chicken and lamb was tender, the chips were crispy, salad tasty and nice complimentary bread. We'll be visiting again sometime.

I’ve been coming to James St Tavern for about a year as part of a board game group (Oxford on Board - join us on Sundays!!!) and I can’t speak highly enough. It’s a great venue for games as the side area with the retractable roof is brilliant for all four seasons and really spacious and lots of tables. The pub itself is cosy and has a nice atmosphere - not fully “trad pub” but more of a modern pub vibe. The food has always been awesome (best avocado toast in Oxford for sure) and I appreciate that they give the group a discount too. The staff have always been really friendly, flexible, and accommodating, and the service has always been quick and hassle free. The price point is decent for Oxford as well. There’s a great range of drinks for those who do and do not drink alcohol - always such a bummer when as a non drinker I’m limited to coke. That’s definitely not the case here as they have coffees and teas lots of nice soft drinks - and a choice of non dairy milks as well. I like the diversity of things that happen at the pub as well - from open mic music to art shows and taking part in local community events like Cowley Road Carnival. 5/5 for me - keep it up James St!

We celebrated my fiancés 30th Birthday at Las Tapas last night and we had an amazing evening! It was a surprise meal and Emre and his team were fantastic at making sure everything and everyone was taken care of! The food was AMAZING and all 30 of us left so full up, sangria went down a treat too. I have been for dinner just the two of us which was lovely but also great for large groups too! Would 110% recommend 🍷🌶️
