I've been here a few times and keep on resolving to visit more often. This time I think that resolve will stick as everything seems to have improved. Look; the food isn't quick. There's a sign on the wall to warn you. If you don't book, you probably won't get a seat during the rush hours and if you do then they'll warn you again that you'll have to wait on your meal. I think it's worth the wait. Besides, the Old Chain Pier would be a venue worth a visit even if the food was average (it's better than that). This building hangs over the waters near the harbour. I love sitting there (book!) by the window in the sunshine or if the weather is so bad that the waters are choppy and dangerous looking. There's a good range of drinks, seats outside, dog friendly and bus stops just outside. It's no surprise that OCP is busy - just a surprise that it isn't even busier. Best of all; this is not a pub that seems to be much bother from young beer chuggers - I guess it's too far from the beaten track. Good news all round! [ Update: October 23 - Menu grown, pleasantly again. Staff fantastic. Still, I miss the nachos] [Update: May 24 - Lovely refurb] [Update: Nov 24 - Their outside hustle just keeps getting better]

Visited for the first time with a group of local hospitality managers, the venue was lovely. The staff were weirdly rude and almost confrontational. We were advised upon ordering drinks that the venue closed in 30 minutes and said no problem we were just after 1 drink. 4 minutes after ordering our drinks, the music was then turned off and lights were turned up to full. The bar staff then started putting the chairs on every table more than 20 minutes prior to closing and even asked people to move and reached over a table full of people to turn off a lamp so they could close. We all weren't sure if any management was in place but all found it extremely rude and found the staff hostile and would suggest changing the opening times or closing process as it is not normal to make 5 tables feel unwelcome enough to finish their drinks so quickly and leave with that sort of attitude from staff. Disappointing as the venue itself is lovely.

We had high hopes for Lady Libertine during a special weekend in Edinburgh, but unfortunately, the experience turned out to be really disappointing. Despite booking a table four weeks in advance for 7:30 PM, our evening was riddled with poor service, lack of communication, and an unwelcoming atmosphere. When we arrived, our table wasn’t ready. We were directed to the bar, but it was so overcrowded that we couldn’t sit down, or even stand at the bar to order a drink. Standing in a cramped, noisy corner with people pushing past us was not the start we’d expected. Once eventually seated, things didn’t improve. Despite requesting a romantic table, we were placed next to a loud party of 12, making conversation impossible. To add to the frustration, the menu was misleading, featuring items like Jersey Royals, which definitely aren’t in season in December, raising concerns about the menu’s authenticity. The real disappointment came when we tried to order. Six dishes were unavailable, including my first, second, and third choices, yet this wasn’t mentioned when we were handed the menu - which was only a small menu to begin with. To make matters worse, the server’s lack of communication and absence of an apology left us feeling pretty dismissed and upset. We waited ages for food, with no updates from the staff nor checkback to offer more drinks, while nearby tables—seated after us—were already receiving their meals. By 8:30 PM, having had just one drink, with no sign of our food, and with our booking due to end at 9 PM, we decided to leave and get a takeaway instead. Having been there for over an hour - two thirds of the time they’d allowed us for our booking - the only thing we had consumed was one drink each, which we paid for before walking out. For a restaurant with the slogan “experience the extraordinary”, the only extraordinary thing about it was how utterly rubbish it was. The evening was a complete letdown. Poor organisation, inattentive service, and an unwelcoming atmosphere ruined what was supposed to be a memorable night. As it may have been a one-off, we emailed the restaurant with our feedback directly before posting a review, to highlight the issues and request an explanation. We received an automated response to say we’d receive a reply within 48 hours - but, more than 48 hours later, we haven’t received any acknowledgment from them, suggesting that they simply do not care. If you’re considering Lady Libertine, I’d recommend looking elsewhere: the overwhelming impression we got was that they care only for overcrowding their venue with excessive bookings and walk-ins to make as much money as possible, irrespective of the impact on guest experience. Edinburgh has so many brilliant restaurants and this is not one of them. Unless your idea of a great evening is sitting in a dark noisy cave and being ignored for an hour, go literally anywhere else.

Don't ever bring Gordon Ramsay here. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but the food at this place must have seriously gone downhill. How do you mess up a cheeseburger? The beef patty was something procured from the lowest discount grocery. Full of fat and gristle. You could tell it was one of those thin-flat, perfectly circular patties with 90 degree edges. My friend got the French Toast (how do you screw up French Toast?). By making it so sweet he couldn't finish it. He's not a picky guy. My plate came with fries which were tasteless. I normally don't waste food but could not stomach the disappointment. Only redeeming feature was a flat white for £3.00. Please take an honest look at your food and reevaluate the ingredients and preparation.

Obviously only open air so weather dependent but coffees are always very good. Scones are fantastic. The rocky road is also great.
