One of my favourites in town. - food is really good. Fresh, tasty and typical Scottish food. Scones are very good. - prices are ok for Edinburgh - suitable for family, friends and nice for weekends - booking recommended - they have some highland cows near there, which are really cute 🥺🥰 - area is very beautiful for a walk and spend a day walking around.

Service needs improving. Food is good and excellent value. No sweetness for the Pepermint tea!!!

What a hidden gem so close to Edinburgh and my new favourite breakfast place! Scrumptious breakfast after a walk in the pentlands, check! Freshly bakes scones and good coffee, check! Beautiful view of the golf course, check! Highland coos close by, both behind a fence and in the wild, check! Good service and reasonable prices, check! Whats not to like!

I used it when I came to see Highland cows, which are the face of Scotland. The cafe is on the second floor. The clerk was very friendly. We ordered hot chocolate (3.5 lbs.), cappuccino (3.2 lbs.), cheese scone (3.3 lbs.), brownie with ice cream for the kids (4.5 lbs.), and pancakes with ice cream for the kids (4.5 lbs.) . I'm satisfied with everything♪ Thank you for the meal!

Great golf brasserie. We were just out for a walk to see the cows. Varied menu, friendly staff. Value for money ok

Don’t normally write bad reviews on food, but this one just really put us off. Came here for lunch, ordered 4 drinks 4 meals, got 3 orders wrong. Ordered two J2O Apple mango came out Apple raspberry, didn’t even ask before poured it out, just assumed we will take them. Ordered black coffee, came out flat white. Ordered tomato pasta came out tomato pizza. No apologies but did swap the pasta for us. Scampi was disgusting, didn’t look cooked at all! Very watery and clear bluey grey. We asked the staff but he just said supposed to be like this and tried to tell us scampi is made from crab not prawns. He also said texture soft is right if hard is not. We tried a few but didn’t eat them all, as we all thought they tasted super fishy and weird. Definitely not the normal scampi we have had. Tomato pasta for the kids was also a let down, not only it came out later because he messed up the order. It had a stone in the pasta. At that point, we were tired of complaining again, and just asked for the bills to go. That’s £60 disgusting lunch and definitely won’t go back again.

My family and I decided to visit the area to see the cows it is famous for. We decided to have breakfast at this restaurant and it was a good choice. The menu is varied and features traditional Scottish food. The staff is nice especially Mr. Raj, the service is fast and the food is delicious. The surrounding atmosphere is wonderful. It was an enjoyable experience for me and my family.

Food’s great, coos are amazing, and service is impeccable. Have been all around Scotland and Swanston Farms is easily the highlight. Cannot recommend enough!

The starters were all good however the Mac and Cheese for a main meal was awful. My Mum and I both ordered it and it was completely tasteless. We left most of it. The server did ask if it was OK and I told her that it had no flavour and was tasteless and all she said was 'oh'. My daughter's cheese burger was very tough and she left more than half of it, she couldn't even cut it with a knife! The steak pie apparently was nice. Overall not good!

A must visit if you come to Edinburgh!! the staff are a delight, an amazing view on the green land, will definitely come back here ^_^

Amazing lentil soup, burger, and scone. The atmosphere was relaxed but well kept with very friendly service. There were lots of locals so it’s not just a tourist trap! It filled up once lunch service started so a reservation may be needed.

Pleasant and relaxing atmosphere

We ordered steaks followed by two luxury hot chocolates & a raspberry coconut scone. Steak was medium well, exactly how i like it, with crispy warm fries, & a fresh salad. Hot chocolate was full of mini marshmallows, & the scone was especially delicious! They were quite busy but the service was quick and excellent. With outdoor views, friendly staff, & great food, this place is a must visit.

Had a lovely roll with hot sausages and a coconut and mango scone. Couldn’t fault it but when everything is so lovely and homemade, why do the scones come with hard no taste but just sweet jam in a little plastic packet? It should be homemade or at the very least, a good quality bought jam! That was very disappointing. There’s no excuse for buying poor jam nowadays. Service by everyone was lovely. Atmosphere is busy and a happy noise…

Classy atmosphere, good views. TV in the corner can be distracting or entertaining depending on your perspective. Didn't try the food, but good service for drinks and comfortable chairs and sofas for after a long hike!

Excellent food in a dream setting

My friends bought some hot rolls here before our search for the Highland Coos. After the sighting, we descended from the same trail and ended up having late lunch together in the outdoor area of the brasserie in the sun. Food was lovely. I had kedgeree (fillet of smoked haddock, rice and soft-boiled Swanston Farm egg) and a pint of orange juice and lemonade. Good selection of hot food on their menu in general.

Staff were very rude and slow for drinks, kitchen times were not listed and had closed hours before arrival. View is nice though.

Lunch after nine holes great food and service

On 21st April2024, my wife and I visited this Brasserie. We saw three highland cows near Brasserie. After that, we had lunch in there. All foods were very good. All staff were also very kind. Very comfortable place. Looking forward to visiting again soon. Thank you.

Got their Swanston Full Breakfast and latte before hiking to go see the cows. The coffee was not my favorite but the dish was delicious.

Last time we saw loads of them, but unfortunately this time we only saw 1 very far in the distance (they must have all been higher up which was too much walking for us!) However, while finishing the walk we could see 3 cows not far from the brasserie, but we decided to stop in for some treats first! We all really enjoyed our scones, especially the cheese and bacon scone! Good size, lovely texture and really nice flavour. All the staff were really friendly (much more friendly and helpful than staff at any other restaurant of café we have been to) We overheard them telling another customer where to walk to see the cows and mentioned the ones we had seen at the end of our walk. These ones are in their own field so possibly are there all the time? Either way, we finished our lovely scones and walked a few minutes to see the cows which was great fun. So fluffy and cute. We've only ever had scones and coffee here, but if their main food menu is as good as their scones then I'm sure it's a great place to go for a meal. We will definitely visit again next time we're in the area.

Second visit, this time I chose the pancakes, with bacon and maple syrup and I must say I wasn't overly impressed with it. It wasn't bad, but neither was it good. Maybe if I go back I'll stick with the scones.

Called in for coffee and cake. Both were of good quality. Service was prompt and friendly.

We hadn’t been here since before the pandemic and thought that we would bring some family and a friend. We all greatly enjoyed our lunch, which was enhanced by a warm and welcoming greeting and attentive service from the staff. The restaurant was well heated too, which was what we needed on a cold day. Our guests were here for the first time and were very impressed and keen to return. Thank you Swanston for making our lunch gathering a great success. We will certainly return in the forthcoming months.

I recommend the Brasserie to anyone visiting Edinburgh. Amazing food and even better service. The GM, Wylie, was so personable and went out of his way to make us feel welcome and he answered any questions we had. He also showed us the lay of the farm and the best way to see the “Coos”. We will definitely be back!

Stopped for tea and scones - lovely views and staff. The highlight was the walk up the hill to meet the highland coos! Definitely worth the visit.

Mac and cheese was completely bland but we were offered an alternative by the wonderful staff (chicken burger), beef burger was a bit chewy and also a bit bland but not as bland as the Mac and cheese. Chicken leek and ham pie was lovely, as was the mocha and luxury hot chocolate, which were rich and delicious.

The food was quite nice. We stopped for a snack on our way out to explore and look for the Highland Cows. They did not disappoint, and my oldest is now officially enamoured of the cows-I've had to buy her a plushie!

The staff are always super friendly and accommodating. I have stopped here for coffee and one of their fabulous scones many times and never had bad service! Great place for a coffee and catch up with friends. Can't recommend it highly enough.

LUNCH AT SWANSTON BRASSERIE Popped in for a quick spot of lunch at the Swanston Brasserie. We ordered one Steak pie with mixed veg and chips and one Steak pie with mixed veg and potatoes. The Steak pies were tasty with puff pastry that was very flaky to the point it totally fell apart when cut, could have done with more meat in pies. Portion sizes of the vegetables were small , only 1 1/2 small potatoes but were tasty enough. Not a la carte dining but adequate for some lunch. On the pricey side though for what you get.

We came here a few months ago and had coffee and bacon rolls but next time we could not get a table without a booking However today we booked and got our table but wished we hadn't bothered. The bacon roll was awful - a cheap roll with two slices of extremely fatty bacon which was only slightly warm. I had a plain scone which was brick hard, maybe new but over baked. The service was ridiculously slow to bring the coffees. We won't return.

Fantastic food where I had the cheese and bacon burger with perfect chips, service was brilliant with the waiters and waitresses being super polite and it was a lovely place to be in. Will definitely be coming again when we come back to Edinburgh!

Have been quite a few times and it never disappoints. Staff go extra mile to make sure that your visit is special. Even went to the extent of adding cream and jam for our fruit scones to take away.

We got married here in September and we cannot recommend the venue highly enough. The day went seamlessly, the staff were amazing, food was lovely and the venue/views are incredible. We will definitely be frequent visitors to the Brasserie for many years to come. Thank you Wylie and team.

Wir waren nach einem ausgedehnten Spaziergang zu den Highland Kühen in der Swanston Brasserie. Trotz dass es das einzige Restaurant in der Umgebung war und hier wahrscheinlich viele Touristen her kommen war es preislich in Ordnung. Man hat hier eine schöne Auswahl an selbstgemachten Kuchen, Mittagessen, diversen Getränken und Kaffee. Als wir ankamen war das Restaurant recht voll, wir haben dennoch einen Platz bekommen. Der Service war ausgesprochen freundlich und das Essen lecker. Die Kuchen waren frisch und sehr lecker. Eine klare Empfehlung wenn man hier in der Nähe ist und nach einem ausgedehnten Spaziergang eine Pause benötigt und Hunger hat.

Ancillaries are overpriced. Small can of soft drinks £3.50. I had the cheese tart which was tiny and shop bought ( £15) . Lovely setting and building and staff friendly but struggled when busy. Mixed experience but definitely a pass

We missed spotting Highland cows during our short trip in Edinburgh. We found this place not too far from the city and hoped they wouldn't judge us for coming to see the cows. The staff here were absolutely lovely and welcoming. This place was our last stop before the airport, so we had our luggage with us. They were very friendly and offered to keep our luggage safe until we returned after the hike. We were able to see two of their old Highland cows and a bunch of horses. The restaurant is situated in a very scenic location. We tried their coffee and hot chocolate, and it was comforting on a rainy day. A big thumbs up to the staff there!

I came for lunch, in July 2023. Had a delicious soup, although I can't remember was, now, it was delicious (it was a quirky combination, though). I also had the kedgeree, which was excellent, with a lot of smoked haddock. The views across Edinburgh are exceptional, too. I also bought a cheese and jalapeno scone, to rake away, and this was also delicious. They had a good variety fresh baked scones.

I loved it up there, the views are breathtaking. Very calm atmosphere and excellent food. Great Experience

My first visit here as I was staying nearby hopefully I will be able to come again.. The Brasserie sits in a beautiful location with gorgeous views looking back over the City..

This is place we have visited on many occasions. The food was very good and service from a lovely guy. Enjoyed everything we had.....until we noticed that you are charged 60. pence surcharge for Decaffeinated coffee. That is excessive costs. Not a happy customer. Pity

First and foremost, the food was excellent. I had been waiting all day to visit this wonderful place, hike around, see the Highland Cows and after enjoy a bite to eat at the highly rated restaurant. I arrived at the restaurant at 5:30pm (restaurant closes at 6:30pm). I walked in to a waitress who was beyond disappointed I showed up close to the end of her shift. I asked to sit on the beautiful patio and was advised it was closed due to wind. She asked even prior to giving me a seat, what I would be wanting today as the place is closing soon. I was taken back as usually an hour prior to close people welcome you with a smile and a seat. As soon as I sat down she brought my drink but did not return for my order. I proceeded to the bartender who was more than happy to take my order. 2 min prior to my food being delivered I was asked to "square up" as the waitress needed to cash out. I really wanted dessert and even advised this to her on arrival, however the bill was delivered prior to the main dish and I was never even asked if I wanted anything else. Might I add, this was all even prior to 6pm. I felt so rushed and unwanted. I would definitely recommend this place but NEVER unless you arrive a few hours prior to closing as the cold shoulder was definitely extended my way by the waitress and made the meal very uncomfortable. This being said the bus boy and bartender were more than welcoming, but not the main face I was dealing with.

I went to Swanston after googling where can I see highland cows in Edinburgh. The location is a bit far off and I took an uber. The golf terrain and general mountains around are beautiful. It was chilly but you get warmed up quickly as you have to hike to search for the coos. James particularly was amazing, as they do not keep the coos enclosed, you actually have to search for them around the hills. It's a great experience!

Went for brunch with my wife and 2 year old. Lovely full Scottish breakfast, and the staff were very accommodating for the wee one. Car transportation suggested for large groups, otherwise about a mile walk off the nearest bus route.

Been going to Swanston Brassiere for a number of years now and it never disappoints. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming. A lot of the produce is locally sourced from Swanston Farm and the menu is very reasonably priced. Views of the golf course and Edinburgh are excellent. If your out for a walk in the Pentlands or having a round of golf would highly recommend the Brassiere for something to eat or drink afterwards. Big shout out to Raj and team.

Went for a light lunch with my friend. We both had soup split yellow pea and basil. It was watery with no body, dirty dishwasher my mum would say. Lacked taste. Waitress was lovely which is why a 2 star. We did tell her when she asked and disappointed that more wasn't done when we paid. Won't be back or recommend if you can't do soup.

Was here for a funeral tea. Great service in a comfortable space. Only drawback is getting there

Good coffee, great scones, just out of the oven. Very good service. Friendly staff. One disappointment - "Dave's porridge" was very poor despite the hype on the menu !!

Visited yesterday with my friend. We were there for breakfast and served by Jeannie. What an asset smiling, funny and very friendly. Breakfast was excellent. We will definitely be back and hope that Jeannie is our waitress. Keep up the good work 😍

The food was excellent as was the service. I was part of a table of six people and every one thought this was a great meal. One star off for the atmosphere as it was difficult to hear the conversation due to the background noise coming from the other tables. I presume everybody was happy as they were lots of smiling faces

I had very good breakfast with beautiful view. Nice and quiet area.

Lived here for years and often go walking in the hills but always associated the Brasserie with Golf which we don't like. Came here on a whim and were mightily impressed. We hadn't booked and it was busy but the bar manager found space for us. Great food and service and not over priced. Definitely coming here again!

My mother and I visited today for some brunch. The atmosphere was lovely with the hills in the background. We enjoyed 2 of the full breakfasts with some drinks. The food was delicious and service was speedy. Elena who served us was very attentive. We arrived a little bit later after our booking but were accommodated well with choosing a different table than what was assigned. Book ahead as they get quite busy. With all these positives there was only a few things to point out, but I work in the hospitality industry so this is easy for me but these are only minor. Thank you for an enjoyable experience yet again, we will be back!

My friends and I stopped in after seeing the cows. The soup of the day, chicken leak and rice, was so delicious that we ordered a second bowl. The flat white was also delicious and our server Raj was wonderful, he also called us a taxi. Perfect treat after hiking to see the wildlife and Edinburgh views.

Super food served by nice people

We went to find the hairy coos at this working farm and stopped for a bite at the brasserie. Very good food and took some scones away for home and they were excellent! We did find the herd of cops and it was so awesome to see them! The staff were great and helpful in calling us a taxi back to town. It was a fun experience and our food was tasty.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch in this fantastic venue- wonderful window table with view - food excellent, service outstanding- friendly, efficient, nothing too much trouble, all with a cheerful smile. And all at an extremely reasonable price. What more could one want? Can't imagine anywhere I'd rather go for a meal out.

A hidden gem, far from the hustle & bustle of the city. Tucked away on the base of a hill / golf course. Excellent food & beverage offering. Prompt service & attentive staff. Unfortunately could not spot the highland cattle 🐮. Nachos, fish & chips, Mac n cheese and vegan curry with saffron pulaf. All of them were good.
