with a friend we decided to have lunch and Bread st looked best option, modern design and interesting menu ,however one habit of mine is to ask the staff what they would eat or recommend ,we love fish and our server Alessandra recommended Crab on toast and Tuna Tartare which were great choices although I found the Tuna little too spicy , Mr Raboso

Loved our dinner here. Atmosphere is a 10; service was a 10 and our meal was a 10. We enjoyed appetizers, drinks, dinner and dessert. Definitely a food stop you should not miss. The pork belly was amazing, juicy, flavorful and crisp crackling. The dessert was an airy cheesecake- delicate and scrumptious.

Convenient as in hotel was stating at. Starters looked and tastes great although salmon too rich for my brother. So didn't finish it. Lamb main was excellent. Steak was a bit rough and gristley. Ordered medium rare and would have medium next time as was difficult to distinguish fat and gristle from red meat. Service was excellent.

waited over a our for the first course. Service very poor but this seemed to be due to kitchen staff problems and not the waiting staff who were left trying to keep the customers happy. We were given our bottle of wine for free to compensate. We were there on vegan night and it was really to try out this place with 2 vegans (we are not). Unfortunately the stop start nature of the meal adversely affected the whole experience. I suspect we were just unlucky.

As a foody and someone who cooks a lot of creative vegetarian and vegan meals, I went to a vegan night at Hilton with curiosity and high expectations. Sadly I was dissapointed: there was no imagination in the meal, it was boring, dry with far too much salt and no other herbs or spices added to the dish. To make vegan food tasty it needs to be vibrant in colour and flavour and you can't achieve it with just 3 ingredients or so. Paying for a meal which doesn't meet your expectations really annoys me as when I go out I want to eat something I would not be able to prepare myself. Not at Hilton. My friend who chose a different dish yo mine was equally disappointed. We won't be back!

I couldn’t believe how slack the staff are. There were loads of staff but they didn’t do much to make it a nice evening out. Service was worse than slow and everything was prompted. Eventually they brought bread. Then we waited and asked for butter. They brought out three packets of butter for 5 people. So was asked for some more butter. We asked for a bottle of champagne. They said - oh we don’t think we have any - even though it was on the wine list. We said - it is our friends birthday - special occasion - so hey made a huge effort to find some. I wou;d have thought most places would want to sell champagne. The food was ok - although my friend wanted roast chicken - but they only had chicken stuffed with haggis and weren’t prepared to prepare something without haggis. Then when we finished the meal (we on;y had one course), they left our plates on the table for about 20 minutes and didn’t clear them away. Frankly - I don’t know how they got any good reviews. The whole place oozed a sense of boredom and complacency. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The Restaurant was clean, tidy, lovely greeting by the F&B manager, we were sat promptly with the specials and soups outlined before taking our food order. Drinks and food were timely, all our needs were addressed. The food was excellent, as was the selection of spirits. All food and accompanying service was to a very high standard and to top it off they laid out a plate of decorative brownies with a”Happy Birthday” message written in chocolate which they presented to my Mum during our dessert course which made the experience even more special. The F&B manager was very attentive to all our needs, was relaxed and jovial with us and offered some advice for other bars to visit during our time in Edinburgh. We came down from Aberdeen to attend our friends daughters evening wedding celebration within the Hilton so thought this would be handy for dinner, and easy to pop through to the event. It was dead quiet (never a good sign) but staff were pleasant. Our main course was fine, not amazing but perfectly adequate. Then the waitress came with the sweet menu, left us a few minutes then came back to tell us the only dessert we could have was fruit salad or ice-cream!!!!! Really? No apple pie, sticky toffee pudding etc etc? On a Saturday night? Very disappointing that this wasn't pointed out at the beginning of the meal as the offer was 2 courses for £22. We may have ordered starters instead.... A table of 8 came in as we left so I hope they weren't expecting a slap up & a big bowl of pudding!!

We’d booked the bread street brasserie based on a recommendation from a friend who guaranteed the best haggis. The haggis was nice and appears to be a standard on the starter menu... but in a different form... it was breadcrumbed and fried. Completely different to what we were expecting but still a tasty starter. The Shepherds Pie was exactly as designed... a perfect comfort food. Perfect after a days exploring with a pot of red cabbage for accompaniment. Our issues came when every member of waiting staff (3) on duty asked if we were ok in the space of 2 minutes. We’d barely had a chance to take a bite in between. It was a pleasant experience and we were afforded the time to relax after our meal and finish our drinks. I’d recommended it you were staying nearby but nothing so mind blowing as to warrant a journey from afar to the restaurant.

We were staying overnight at the hotel to go to a nearby concert so chose to eat there too. The staff were VERY friendly and attentive without being intrusive and seemed genuinely interested in us and our reasons for eating there. The food was served reasonable quickly (which was good as we were going to the concert for 7.30) and was absolutely delicious. We skipped starters but was served home made cranberry and walnut bread which was to die for. My husband had the buffalo burger and I had the steak pie - the pastry was obviously made with butter and tasted delicious. Then my husband had the apple pie and custard while I had the chocolate mousse and walnut ice-cream -it was SO good!! We will definitely be eating there again for sure.

MORE AT OpenTable

Although the food was excellent and the service was mostly very good, there were a couple of things that lost some stars in the rating. Just little things, really, but you would expect them to be in place given the surroundings and the price we paid for Christmas dinner. Firstly, no one asked to take our coats and scarves when we were seated, so we had to hang them on our chairs - I know it's not a big thing but you'd expect a good restaurant to offer such a thing, especially as they were bulky coats to combat the Edinburgh winter weather. Also, the service was variable, ranging from fantastic to just plain surly. One waitress of the latter description grabbed my partner's starter at one point and started taking it away. She told the waitress she hadn't finished, at which point the waitress handed it back and stood on her shoulder watching her eat (seriously, she did) and the split second she finished the last scrap, the waitress whisked it away. It was like something from a sitcom. The same waitress also forgot to bring us some water we'd requested and we had to rely on one of the better waiting staff after waiting twenty minutes. To cap it off, the same waitress brought our desserts without one word and half-dropped/slid them onto the table before marching off again. As I said, little things, but we just felt the service could have been that little bit better given the price of the meal and the prestigious surroundings.

Had given my husband a voucher for his birthday to go to one of the restaurants Vegan Nights and sadly the experience was very underwhelming.
Service was poor when you consider the fact that this is a Hilton restaurant. Waited a long time to even get a menu and had to ask for it in the end. The waitress forgot our wine order which we also had to ask for, after having our food served. I chosen a soup for a starter which was served without the bread and butter it was supposed to have on the side. And when we ordered our dessert, only 1 was brought in without any questions. We asked if we could please have the dessert for my husband too and were told we would have to wait a while as they had to make it up.
The food in itself was very underwhelming. As a top end hotel restaurant you would expect a bit more effort going into creating a vegan menu and not just have a choice of baked potato, spring rolls and a burger, which anyone can make at home. We chose the burger which was really disappointing. The bun was a plain white McDonalds looking roll, and the fries on the side looked like they were straight out of a bag of frozen Tescos french fries. The burger in itself was not very tasty and had large lumps of sundried tomato.
I really dont enjoy writing critical reviews of places, but I just felt this one had to be said. It was supposed to be a happy occasion but we came away very disappointed, and we are usually not picky. Sadly we cannot recommend going to the vegan night here and will definitely not be coming back.

Brasserie is well appointed near theatres, concert halls and so ideal for pre theatre meal. The food was alright but really rather bland and the starter took 20 minutes to arrive. Staff were efficient and friendly. Very different to the experience next morning at breakfast which was quite excellent with huge range of both cold and hot food as well as a massive range of alternatives and very attentive, cheerful staff.

Well located for theatre, good food and excellent service, lacked ambience/atmosphere a bit, was quiet for pre-theatre and lighting too bright but overall recommended

Short notice booking which was great. We were staying in the hotel and arrived quite late, so it was handy to go downstairs to eat. That was probably the the only plus to the restaurant. Food was plastic, and although our server was absolutely lovely, there was a bit of difficulty with translation.

Food was nice but the service while friendly was quite slow. It was very quiet so lacking in atmosphere. Saw two people waiting for a table at the door just after 9 o'clock and after waiting 10 minutes to be seen were told they were too late for a table. Considering it was still early and the restaurant about a third full this seemed ridiculous. Nice food but not blown away.

Good food at a reasonable price but slow service even though the restaurant was less than half full. Did not know it was the restaurant for the Hilton Hotel with mainly residents eating. It is portrayed as a standalone brasserie on the website.

Limited menu even though I had checked. Sales mtg going on with 30 people at the tables beside us and the waiter managed to muck up the order. Food was ok but choice and setting was poor. Much better as the old point hotel. Poor show Hilton, a brand but not much else!

Very nice restaurant for a pre theatre meal. Everything was freshly prepared so took a bit longer, but we weren't in a hurry. The restaurant is beautifully designed and laid out and the staff were attentive.

We were staying in the Hilton hotel and booked here for dinner. The food was very good and the service was great. The restaurant seemed very quiet for a Friday night at 8pm but all in all a pleasant experience.

Truly dreadful. The restaurant was only about a quarter full but that did not stop awful incompetent service, the food being served more than an hour after ordering , wrong and cold.

We were visiting Edinburgh and had read that Bread Street Brasserie does a vegetarian (or maybe it is vegan, I forget now) dinner on the first Monday of each month. We went with anticipation but it turns out that information was incorrect. The special menu is on the first Wednesday, rather than Monday. Even so, we had a very nice dinner because the staff was more than kind in helping us determine what menu items were suitable. We hadn't realized this restaurant is within a hotel. Even so, it was a very nice meal and a good, comfortable, relaxed welcome on our first night in a city we had never before visited. Thank you so much to the staff of Bread Street Brasserie.

Although this restaurant is part of an hotel, it is most definitely worth a visit, in its own right, for the excellent quality food and wine. The special offers make it even more worth visiting. A variation of a Scotch Egg made with haggis was a delight, with the egg a perfect texture, and the wines were also excellent and not particularly expensive.

The restaurant does have quite a formal feel to it but you should ignore that and just enjoy the excellent quality food and drink.

The Bread Street Brasserie was a nice in-hotel restaurant with okay food and great service. It was quiet when we arrived (the only 2 guests) but then the next 2 were put on the table beside us, and a group of 8 put on the table behind us - yet the rest of the restaurant was big and empty!

Every dish is delicious and truly uses local Thai ingredients. Recommended snack platter, fish sauce papaya salad and main course fried shrimp with rice. Seasoned well, just the right amount of lightness. The fried food is delicious, but the main dishes are a little on the sweet side. The service staff are friendly and enthusiastic and can speak Cantonese. It's really great. The restaurant environment is clean and tidy, and the location is convenient. Highly recommended! Really enjoyed lunch here, haggis and mash with I think it was red wine sauce. Stag kept up even though it was busy during the Fringe. Only slight minus is I thought it was a little bit expensive for what it was.

We stopped by Frites for a snack and, based on the waitress’s recommendation, tried the Chicken Tikka Goodness. We went for the large size to share, and the fries were flavorful and satisfying as a meal. However, the place lacked a seating area, even for waiting, so we ended up enjoying our fries on the stairs of Usher Hall nearby.
