Nor’ Loft in Edinburgh, City of

Was recommended this place by a well known Edinburger who said it is lovely. Well we rang to make a reservation and nobody answered the phone so we turned up anyway. We walked out of the lift and there is a front of house pedestal with no one at it so I went to the bar. My wife found a table for two near the window and sat down. I ordered a drink at the bar and the girl said to me “tell her not to get too comfortable” Why I asked? “Because you haven’t booked” she replied! Then some 14 year old manager who had just finished his paper round came up to me and said if we haven’t made a reservation we could not sit down? I asked him which charm school he went to not to and decided to leave. If you like places like this that are trendy for a couple of months but then go bust because they can’t answer the phone then this is for you. Good luck

Lovely place for drinks and views across the top of Waverley Station to Princes St (except when I was last here and the haar was down)! Friendly staff. Nice wine and nibbles.

Went for drink only. Lovely setting and staff. Had a glass of my favourite Bollinger as was my birthday. Also gave us complimemtary chocolates. Very nice touch.

The 7th floor terrace is one of my regular places in Edinburgh to visit. Fantastic views across Scottish history from The Caledonian Hotel, The Johnny Walker Experience, The Balmoral Hotel, St. Andrew's and Bute House. The staff are fantastic and faultless. It's definitely the place to visit. If you can get a room with Balcony you will not be dissapointed

The best toilets in Edinburgh! Go to this place just for the toilets. And the view is great. And the staff are lovely but should be paid more to cope with the likes of me

Glorious views over Edinburgh in a stylish environment. It was dark and atmospheric when we went but I can imagine that it would also be a good place to experience during daylight too. The staff were very nice. I didn't think our waiter was particularly knowledgeable about the drinks but we were being a bit indecisive and he maybe didn't want to sway us towards something we didn't like in the end. Very comfortable sofas around the fire-style installation which was lovely on a chilly summer evening and would be great in winter. I'm looking forward to going back. A grown-up bar experience in smart surroundings. Leave your leisurewear at home and lap up the luxury. I had been told this place was good and wish I had gone along sooner!

This is not a place for dinner. More posh bar snacks type place. Nice staff and decor but little else. I have eaten in many restaurants in Edinburgh that surpass this by a mile. I did not expect to be looking for someplace to buy chips because the dinner was so meagre.

Great bar we often choose to pop into when out in Edinburgh. Lovely drinks, nice views and good staff and service. Busy enough there is a buzz about the place, but not packed full & noisy like other places in the city. Visited most recently for for my birthday, this was acknowledged with a card and chocolates which was a very nice touch. Would highly recommend for a nice relaxing glass of wine/champagne.

This place kinda threw me for a loop. We were greeted so nicely downstairs and told it didn’t matter whether we had a booking or not but when we got up to the bar there were such an unwelcoming staff, we couldn’t help but feel totally weirded out by the whole thing. Despite a half empty bar, Alex at the welcome desk told us there was absolutely no way they could seat us - despite the fact that when I checked on Open Table there were available spots every 15mins for the rest of the night. He told me it was an error and he wouldn’t honour the table we booked for a little later that night. Alex rang me hours later to say a space had opened up - as if we were just waiting downstairs hoping for the honour of a drink at their ‘loft’. Lol. Have a look at the many other negative reviews and you’ll see: these are bigoted people who pick and choose which customers they welcome - who knows their logic - and have no business running a customer-facing business. Looking forward to one of their cold, dry, fake responses, as I’ve seen on all the other 1 star reviews, assuring me they’ll ’look into this’.

My friend and I walked in and were “greeted” by Alex, who told us they were completely booked and they wouldn’t be able to get us in at any point Friday or Saturday. We checked OpenTable and there were plenty of reservations, including for that evening. When we booked it and showed him, he told us he wouldn’t honor it, and was combative. We believe we were discriminated against unfairly. The bathrooms were clean, I recommend going there for the facilities and being on your way.

Went for ladies' afternoon lunch, we were NOT disappointed!!! The picnic lunch was perfect for two, along with a bottle of tattlinger champagne. My friend and I both had a wonderful afternoon, sitting outside over looking Edinburgh. The bar itself is beautifully furnished, and the staff are extremely friendly and polite. Will definitely return!

Clearly for the higher class but the waiting are staff are low-key down to earth, just a facade for rich muppets. Lovely spot, mrs had a lovely cocktail and I had a decent pint. Told them it was my girls birthday and they gave her a hand written card and two fancy chocolates. Thanks to the staff.

Rude. Very snobby. Made up excuses about the weather meaning they couldn’t open the terrace when it was a fine day. Very disappointing.

Atlanta was an incredible bartender!!! Her drinks were incredible ~ specifically the best espresso martini I’ve ever had ~ plus her general banter & knowledge was impeccable. A very fun experience due to her service and expertise. Environment in the restaurant/bar was lovely all around. AND she gave us great recommendations for other bars and restaurants around.

My friends and I stopped into the lounge before we left Edinburgh to get teas and coffee before leaving the city, not realising it was a high end establishment. Naturally we were in our travel wear, jeans, hoodies, etc, (still paying customers and nothing was said to us at the front reception about our dress) and we were met with comically rude behaviour from one particular staff member. He took our order, came back with the drinks (which were nothing special btw) and we were barely finished when he rushes over with his iPad and says “are we ready to pay girls?” Never in my life have I felt so rushed out of a restaurant, no matter how fancy. He further tells us we can go take our pictures on a specific balcony (we were not there to take pictures), which turns out to be comically small and cramped, completely separate from the main dining balcony. I would not be quick to recommend for any meal or drinks if this is the treatment that can be expected from some staff members.

My daughter and I made to feel so unwelcome we walked out. Understand that it was busy weekend, but first word before we even said anything was “no”. When we said happy to sit outside parked in a corner and totally ignored. Went to the cafe downstairs who were so welcoming and more than happy with our custom.

Highly recommend with a great view of Princess Street and Edinburgh. Loads of drink options to sit and enjoy over the views of Edinburgh. Staff are extremely helpful and whiling to assist with any drink options.

DO NOT GO HERE: Booked it a week in advance for the terrace. Had to wait an hour for it. Took 10 minutes for someone to take our order. Ordered a pint and a cocktail… Took 30 minutes to arrive. After waiting an HOUR to finally go on the terrace, i took two hits of a vape (outside and no smoke), woman who worked there said aggressively loud so the entire terrace could hear “WE DONT ALLOW VAPING ON THE TERRACE WE HAVE ANOTHER TERRACE FOR SMOKING” Awful service originally, awful customer service and awful prices. If you have a girlfriend, don’t take her here unless she enjoys an awful view of a train station roof and an long wait for her drink. Two groups before us left, clearly upset about the experience. Don’t come here. Go to Harvey Nics instead, MUCH better

The best customer service always here in this gem of a location. The place itself is so lovely and if you are lucky enough to sit outside then it is even better. A beautiful venue with the best staff.

Great atmosphere. Staff couldn't be more helpful. We only asked to be moved outside on the balcony if it was free. Within the first hour, we moved outside quickly. Drinks were lovely and delicious. Would highly recommend.

We kicked off our wedding anniversary celebrations here this week with a couple of amazing bottles of champagne, served by the wonderful Atlanta! The space is awesome, the views across to Princes Street are stunning, and the service was impeccable! The complimentary petit fours, along with a lovely card, were the icing on the cake!

Such an Esthetic and Nice place. The staff named Anna was too good, sweetly and nicely explained the menu. Her recommendation was the best. Made my 25th Birthday more special with a special dessert treat. Overall Great experience.

Always great service at the Nor’loft with a good range of champagnes to choose from. Ciara very knowledgeable and helpful. I had an espresso martini and a glass of house champagne. Highly recommend. Hubby had the menabraea.

Relaxed atmosphere with beautiful views . We went for a family members 18th and the bar surprised her with a lovely glass of champagne, chocolates and a card. We celebrated with their freshly made cocktails. The service from staff was fantastic making our celebrations a very special afternoon to remember.

I recently visited Nor’ Loft on Market Street in Edinburgh and left thoroughly unimpressed. Upon arrival, the man behind the desk demanded a booking, which we didn't have, and then hastily ushered us to an empty table, barely acknowledging our presence before disappearing. Although the drinks were satisfactory, with my friend and I enjoying a couple of glasses of Pol Roger, the experience was tainted by a pervasive stench of burnt oil wafting from the kitchen. I mentioned this unpleasant odor to the waitress, but it seemed to fall on deaf ears. Having been to Nor’ Loft before and found it tolerable, this visit left me and my friend feeling distinctly unwelcome. Our discomfort only intensified when, out of nowhere, a waitress presented us with a bill we hadn't requested. When I queried this unexpected gesture, she dismissively suggested I speak to the manager before promptly walking away—a display of rudeness that left a sour taste in my mouth. The manager, who also happened to be the same individual who initially seated us without a word of welcome, then approached us in a manner devoid of any semblance of hospitality. Instead of inquiring about our experience, he bluntly inquired about our payment preferences, all the while conveniently neglecting to mention the 10% service charge surreptitiously added to our bill. When I requested its removal, he had the audacity to claim he had informed us of needing a table back within an hour, that was a blatant lie, as no such stipulation had been mentioned earlier. Feeling thoroughly unwelcome and disrespected, my friend and I left Nor’ Loft with a bitter taste in our mouths and no intention of returning anytime soon. With such abysmal customer service, I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment to anyone.

I went for a drink with my boyfriend and his dad and step mother. We were made to feel very welcome by Atlanta and the drinks and view were spectacular !

We arrived for drinks and was met by Raymond who was lovely throughout our whole evening, very attentive and made us specialised cocktails as we weren’t sure what we wanted, we gave him a base flavour and he created unique and tasteful cocktails for us, all which were amazing, will definitely we back!

Lovely ambiance. A great start to a couple of days in Edinburgh. House champagne not the best but good value. Food a mixed bag - bau very good, sashimi no flavour, gyozo not special. An enjoyable experience however. Staff pretty disinterested.

This is a lovely warm place to sit and enjoy a drink in winter. The waiting staff are lovely. However, the welcome desk staff are unfriendly and very clearly look you up and down when working out whether they have a table. Sad materialism in today’s modern world

Lovely little spot. The drinks here are just fab. But what makes this place worth the visit is the lovely staff. Super helpful and accommodating. I didn't catch their names but a lovely young brunette girl served us and made our visit perfect. I hope to return soon!

A champagne lounge at the rooftop of the Market Street Hotel. Really nice view with cozy and elegant atmosphere. They have a variety of seasonal signature champagne cocktails that we really enjoyed. They also have a large selection of spirits and can accommodate your wishes if you do not fancy champagne. They have bites and snacks to share as well with your drink. I really liked the cheese and chilli popcorn with my Pomegranate French 75. Recommend a visit for a nice night out.

I liked the ambience a lot. It’s a good place to chill with friends and have a couple of drinks. I really appreciate Santosh’s service as he did a good job with our cocktails and was really helpful.

Great rooftop bar with a view over the centre of Edinburgh, sadly it was torrential rain when we were there and we couldn't make the most of the outside area, however the interior is a very nice place to be, warm, comfy and with plenty of choice, we had some nibbles (butter chicken sliders wee great as was the cheese and chili popcorn) and a few drinks, although this is a champagne bar, there is plenty of choice the house lager is great. Our server was great, friendly, knowledgable and interested in our night without being overbearing, I didn't catch her name but she was a highlight. It was my wife's birthday and as a nice touch they brought out a couple of birthday chocolates. Very classy. Overall this venue is definitely worth a visit and even on a piss wet Scottish day. We had a great time and will return.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights we went to the nor bar on level7 several times the staff are so welcoming and helpful the drinks fabulous and the food perfect 👌

It's absolutely perfect. Having been to many different bars across Edinburgh, this is hands down one the best. The staff were there whenever you needed something constantly coming over to refill your drinks and offering advice on cocktail choices. This was all then topped off by the incredible view from the venue itself. The only place I think the venue could improve would be by making sure the bins in the bathroom were emptied more regularly. However, I understand that whilst the fringe is on, things can get very busy, and places can often be short stagged during the holiday period. Overall, this bar was like a little oasis in the sky, which I would highly recommend.

Five stars for drinks (we didn’t have any food) and the view makes it super special. Cocktails took a while to come but only because they were freshly made with fruits. Champagne served perfectly and generously.

I was one of the first people to have the nor loft experience when it opened in 2019 and I have regularly celebrated a milestone here over the years and shared it with some special family and friends. The views are great, the cosy vibe and the service in the past was next to none. However, when I went on Friday the service was really poor :( I had booked this as a surprise for my engaged friends, spent >£250 and honestly the staff were useless and didn't bring the sparkle i once felt this champagne bar had... The staff were not friendly or engaging (There was no, "are you celebrating anything special?", "you guys are having fun, can I give you top up?", "would you like to go out to the terrace, ill take your picture?", "what do you think of champagne, do you have any questions about it?"... the staff just didn't go out of their way, it felt like a typical bar... and i'm sorry to say the standard is much higher than this for Edinburgh! Especially when you call yourself a champagne bar in the heart of the city. Ill be going to the Gleneagles for my champagne experience in future as the staff there clearly are knowledgeable and professional. I wont be returning to nor'loft, its was beyond disappointing.

This is a lovely rooftop bar, the staff was lovely, I had a cut on my toe and they gave me loads of plasters, I actually got lost trying to find this place so I phoned up Nor Loft and they gave me detailed directions and when I turned up slightly late they understood and were very accommodating, they gave me a seat by the window because my was my birthday as well and they were the kindest staff ever, talented bar tenders as well who know what they are doing, I’m coming here again in a few weeks lots of love from Julia Bond💗💗💗💗💗💗

Drinks very good, not cheap but that's everywhere in Edinburgh! View is great, one you don't get from many places in town!

We love rooftop patios when visiting a city. The photos looked nice and the reviews were good. Sadly, we did not care for it. The indoor space is very pretty, but the ourdoor patio is tiny with a view of the bridge construction at the moment and it was noisy. The service was good and the drinks were fine. The food options is quite limited so we settled for the cheese board, which was just ok. For the price, we did not find much value. We had a much better time at the Johnnie Walker rooftop bar.

Arrive for our pre booked lunch reservation to be told that kitchen was closed and only nuts and nibbles available. Whilst the young lady on reception was apologetic, I think it would have been appropriate for someone in charge to have contacted us in advance to advise us that no food was available. Not impressed by their poor customer service.

We decided to go for a quick drink as it was a very warm and sunny day in Edinburg yesterday. We walked in and we were very bad welcomed by an older Asian guy He was so rude that me and my friends almost left the place immediately We work in luxury and we are in the city for business opening a luxury pop up shop in the city that will stay for a few moths, so we know what customer service is and we def did not get that vibe there. First he sat us on a table inside saying that when the outside tables were free he would sit us there but clearly that was some tables available there, anyway So we checked the menu and he never said to us that we had to scan the bar code to find more options, we had to ask and again he was extremely rude … we saw a few people from outside standing and ready to leave He gave the stable to another man that just walked in, so my friend stood up and asked, why did you not give it to us? He then sort of rolls his eyes up and decided to take us outside and told us not to move the chairs (weird) it felt kind of racist, I don’t know why I did get that vibe … but yes I did. He never smiled, was never polite and was not helpful at all. After sitting us outside, he walked with a big group of white people and moved all the chairs around, but wait! Did you just not say that we couldn’t move the chairs?!?!? The lady that come to take our order outside was extremely friendly and very polite but we will def not come back. It’s all about customer service guys And it doesn’t matter if we are black, South American or east European, we all should be treat the same way Come on it’s 2023 and I still can’t believe this things happens. Very very very bad. I’ll not recommend to any friend, any client and I’ll def never come back.

Cool place to hang out, have a wee cocktail and read a good book overlooking the station and a bit of Edinburgh’s center. Friendly staff.

The food was amazing, but the service less so. I feel like, in retrospect, we were a little bit looked down on because we were there on a deal. We didn't receive one thing we paid for, and then when we complained we we told we were wrong.

Fabulous staff and service with a fantastic view

The view from the Market Street Hotel breakfast bar and cocktail lounge in Edinboro. Yes, the sun does shine in Scotland followed in less than an hour with fog and rain. You get used to such changes and even come to admire it.

Excellent staff,great views. Unfortunately served "flat Champagne". At £12 a pop I'm sure they'd have been happy for us to accept it. We didn't,remedied without fuss. Why serve it though in a champagne bar? Makes we wonder if they've got any system for keeping it "fresh" or just rely on turnover.

Was really grateful to be accommodated as a spontaneous walk in at Nor’ Loft. The interior is cozy with fireplaces and big windows to shelter from the Scottish weather. It’s definitely a classy place, but the service does not match. I had to go ask for drinks and food every time at the bar. The bartender was friendly every time but the manager and waitress acted like we were an inconvenience. Come for the ambience but be wary about the service.

Found very close to the station if you are lucky on a nice day you will get one of the seats outside the main area. Lovely views looking back onto the station and inside has a warm welcoming feel. We we there on a Saturday evening and the music was pitched at the right level and a good selection. Prides itself on its champagne and the couple I tried I enjoyed but there is enough on the menu to keep everyone satisfied. On the pricier side but you pay that for the ambience and setting.
