Had been here for coffee on a previous visit to Leith and called in again with my partner yesterday. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the coffee was great. The cakes looked exceptional and the server told us they were by the in-house pastry chef. We decided they looked too good to pass on and shared three. They were incredible! We will definitely be back as the Brunch menu looks worth a try.

The cafe's location is fantastic, right on the shore with a beautiful view. Even though we arrived without a reservation during the busy brunch rush, the friendly host quickly found us a table. Unfortunately, the good vibes ended there. Getting service was a real struggle, even for drinks. We also ordered avocado on toast and were surprised to find an extra charge for egg what seemed like a standard ingredient. There wasn't any clear communication about this extra cost. And while the food had good flavor, the preparation was inconsistent – the shakshuka's egg whites were undercooked, and the eggs Benedict yolks were cooked through instead of being runny. It's disappointing because this cafe has so much potential, but the service and kitchen need some serious attention.

Extraordinary little cafe in Leith Scotland. We sat down in a great and comfortable corner near the front window facing the water. We ordered 3 plates to try. See more on our website Bochelley 1. Portobello mushrooms cooked in spices, with wilted spinach, with 2 poached eggs on a slice of sourdough toast. 2. Grilled tuna melt with seasonal slaw and salad garnish, made with sustainable tuna, red onions,Swiss cheese and black pepper. 3. Club sandwich with roasted chicken, crispy bacon, Emmental cheese, tomato, mayo, with side of seasonal slaw and posh crisps. All three plates were emptied. Amazing food. Flavored like I’ve never tasted. Combinations untried at home but will try now, as it was phenomenal. Awesome., great service. Unfortunately too full to try any delectable desserts. . . A nice spot to chill with a coffee or enjoy a tasty snack or brunch. However, their pricing policy isn’t the best—charging extra for plant-based milk or a decaf option feels a bit much. Nearly £5 for a decaf Americano with oat milk is steep, especially when other places offer these choices without added costs. Maybe I’ll start asking for a discount since I don’t use sugar! 😜 You pay the location though.

This review is not for Toast Leith, but for the one on Marchmont Crescent because it belongs to the same owner and doesn’t have a Google Maps location. The lady who manages this place is blatantly racist. It all started with her talking to me in an incredibly rude manner right after she had been laughing and chatting with the white customers before me. Then, without even asking, she added a large tip to my bill. I sat down at the bar table, and before I even had a chance to enjoy my food and drink, she came over in a condescending tone and told me I wasn’t allowed to use my laptop “because that’s how businesses operate!” She claimed it was the owner’s policy (which is why I’m writing this here). There were no signs that said laptops are not allowed! I left my drink and food untouched and went to another place nearby, where I happily paid a larger tip after receiving the basic respect that anyone should expect in such establishments. This was an absolutely awful experience. I will never return to that place again, and I won’t recommend it to anyone, especially if you’re a student or from any background other than white.

Loved this place. The food, service and atmosphere. However if you are going to allow dogs into a restaurant warn your customers first. I don't like having Fido looking longingly at my food whilst I'm eating or getting around my feet on one of those washing line leads. And having a dog allergy don't appreciate then having one seated beside me. Please keep dogs in their own section of the restaurant and ask if your customers mind having a dog next to them please. It matters.

Enjoyed a Sunday morning breakfast here, we arrived about 9:30am and it was fairly quiet, but it was very busy but the time we left! Located towards the port area of the city. We both enjoyed Avocado Toast (one with Feta, the other with Poached Eggs) - they were lovely and very much enjoyed. The food came quickly. The only negative (and this is small) was the pots of tea arrived about 5 seconds before the food. Generally, we like to have the drinks before the food arrives but given it came out quickly that's probably why this happened. Very much enjoyed and would return again!

I came here to eat because it was recommended. I have a gluten intolerance and was told they could accommodate me. I really wanted French toast (which I know others have gotten) but they said they didn’t have it. I settled for the shakshuka and my eggs were so overcooked. The wait staff were super unorganized. We placed our order and then two other people came over asking us what we wanted to order as well. We paid and then were asked to pay again by someone else. Had been looking forward to going to Toast for a while. Have to say was really disappointed. Was shown to a table then largely ignored. Had to ask for menus. Then when we ordered brunch and coffee, the coffee arrived luke warm, the poached eggs were hard, one of the orders was missing an option we’d ordered. No condiments on the table and again had to ask (they didn’t come in any event). Breezy daft students waiting tables who clearly didn’t actually care or remember what was ordered. Just felt like the place was poorly managed and the food was a long way from the photos. £50 for brunch for 3. I really wouldn’t bother. Sorry. Don’t like giving poor reviews but certainly wouldn’t recommend Toast on this experience.

I’ve been to Toast many times, bringing friends and family with me too. As a celiac, I appreciate the variety of gluten free pastries they have & how nice the place is. However, the customer service leaves more to be desired. At first I didn’t let it deter me from coming but after a handful of experiences where staff were impolite, I feel compelled to share it. Customer service is as important as the quality of food, and while there may be busy days or restaurant policies in place, this shouldn’t be an excuse to be dismissive.

A very popular café on the outskirts of Leith's harbour. Many of the inside tables were occupied with dinners tucking into great looking plates of food. The Croque Madame {£12.50} looked quite good. I immediately felt uncomfortable as I wanted to be seated so instantly decided to sit outside. The internals were not calming, warm feeling .... We ordered a decaf flat white, a normal flat white and a slice of banana & chocolate cake from a polite, friendly waitress. The decaf was the star of the 3; good taste and nice layer of microfoam. We could have ordered a second. The normal flat white was really just a milky coffee. Can't quite understand how the 2 drinks could be so different. The cake was a generous portion. However, having been bowled over by this cake at another café a few weeks ago, we were left a bit flat with Toast's version. Lots of chocolate {but not great chocolate} and it could have taken more banana to add more moisture. Having said no to the internal seating we did sit outside next to the cobbled street and overlooking the water. The road seemed to be a main bus route and the surrounding buildings were not great. Would I go again ? No, there are too many other places offering better coffee and cakes with more appealing inside & outside seating. Service 4/5 Decaf Coffee 4/5 Normal Flat White 1/5 Atmosphere 2/5

First off I have to say this café is very popular. We arrived at about 15:00 and most of the tables were full with everyone eating cooked food not just cakes as you may expect at this time of day. We stood by the "wait to be seated" notice but I immediately decided that I wanted to be outside, The internals were too stark, unwelcoming {for me}. We had a decaf flat white and a normal flat white accompanied by a slice of banana & chocolate cake. The decaf was close to a flat white but the normal flat white was just a milky coffee {and less than warm}. Too much cold milk, no foam, no velvet texture, no layers ... I think you get the picture. The cake, the slice was generous but the texture a bit dry; not stale but probably needing a bit more banana to add moisture. We did sit outside; the seating is just across the cobbled road from the river but it seems to be a main bus route. The surrounding buildings are very unattractive. The waitress who took our order was good; polite and friendly. The Croque Madam at £12.50 looked interesting and the customer was tucking into it was great glee. I don't know if this contained sourdough bread which sadly, is on offer with other dishes. Would I go again ? No, there are too many other places offering better coffee and cakes with more appealing inside & outside seating.

Me and my family have been going here for years. However, today would be the last time we went in. I went in to get my usual green juice and it had been served in a dirty cup and with other bits of orange things i just thought it was carrots and gave the waiter the benefit of the doubt and told her about the drink and that i’m allergic to carrots she then went and talked to someone and came back saying “can’t do anything about it” not even a sorry or offer me a new one as you can just wash the cup or make a new one without traces of carrots. Anyway, i ordered a different drink and the girl forgot to put it through and was instead setting talking about how she hated her shifts and managers. none of the girls were interested in hospitality when i walked in no smile or nothing but i just thought they were new so i don’t think anything of it until this bad hospitality came out. The vibe was just not what i expect from toast :(

A pleasant looking spot this attractive cobbled roadway overlooking the water, there are a few tables and chairs outside on the pavement, and this seemed a popular spot on our visit. It’s quite contemporary internally with large windows to let in plenty of light, and the staff seemed pleasant and friendly. There was a great looking selection of cakes on the counter, many of which would have looked at home in a smart French patisserie. I opted for the carrot and walnut cake which was a generous portion and very tasty, although at £5.50 could perhaps argue that it should be. In retrospect I should have tried something more unusual, with the Dark chocolate and salted caramel crisp sounding particular appealing. Not that there was anything wrong with my sponge, it was very nice as mentioned, but I should have tried something a little more unusual rather than something that you can get in pretty much any café. An accompanying latte was also very good. Overall, a very pleasant spot and great cakes. Well worth a visit.

I was very disappointed in the service and the attitude of all the staff (3) on Friday 8th March 2024. We came into the coffee shop late afternoon around 4 for coffee and cake before going into Edinburgh for night out. The coffee shop had been recommended so we headed straight there and could have gone into several others. We sat in the seats no more than 4feet from the bar and although the place wasn’t busy we waited over 20 mins for the waitress to take our order. We order 2 coffees and 1 cake to share. The coffee came 10 mins but it took another 10 mins for the cake to arrive. Bye this time or coffee was nearly finished. After 2 bites of the cake I found a hair in the cake. I beckoned the waitress who sauntered over as slow as she could and when I showed her the hair she just walked away said nothing (she didn’t even pick the cake up) and left it sitting on our table while she went to speak to the girl behind the bar. She then told us it was probably from the bakery who supplies there cake. We ordered another piece of cake but by now we had finished our coffee and ordered 2 more. The lack of customer care was shocking no apology whatsoever and she had the cheek to say when she brought the bill over “you will notice that we only charged for 1 piece of cake” I was dumbstruck by her attitude. I have worked in customer facing jobs for best part of 40 years I have never experienced the like.

I ordered a Turkish breakfast plate of eggs, sausage, and salad with halloumi, olives, and cheese for 11 euros, and excellent Turkish tea, but let it be heavy for you, and the food is halal.

5 star service! The most stunning restaurant and such a great vibe. One of the best in Edinburgh!

Service was so lovely and we absolutely devoured our breakfasts. If you happen to enjoy artichokes and coriander, I cannot recommend enough the artichoke lemon toast with chimichurri butter beans, it was absolutely scrumptious!

Obviously only open air so weather dependent but coffees are always very good. Scones are fantastic. The rocky road is also great.
