The worst food experience I have ever had. I never normally go into much detail as this in a review but I think it is important for others to know. I recently dined at Brehewmia and unfortunately, it was not a great experience. Literally every dish had no flavour. We ordered the pretzels and the pork belly for starter. For mains, the fish and chips and the chicken schnitzel. The cheese sauce that came with the pretzel and schnitzel was lacking any real flavour—neither cheesy nor savoury—and I had to add salt and pepper just to get any taste out of it. The pork belly was a big letdown: just three small pieces served with a cheap-tasting mustard sauce, paper-thin apple slices, and a few garnish leaves that didn’t make it feel like a proper dish. Without the sauce, the pork belly tasted of literally nothing. It looked nice but the portion size was awful for £10. The gherkins were another disappointment— impossibly thin and tasted like they had only been pickled that morning. They were closer to cucumbers. Somehow, the fish was so bland that it might have been the most flavourless dish I’ve ever encountered, which is saying something. I’ve never seen fish naturally as tasteless as that in my life. Even if you don’t season fish it usually taste better than what was served to me, it’s like they somehow managed to extract the fish flavour! The tartar sauce was barely more than bland mayonnaise. Very cheap. With food you can usually smell it - all of our dishes didn't have any smell from it. The schnitzel was tough as a boot, crispy in parts but the texture was off: the top and bottom were mushy, and it fell apart like poorly cooked chicken. Its pale colour only added to the bland presentation. The chips were the best part, though I still needed to salt them. As for the schnitzel’s cheese topping, it was like eating Parmesan that had been left at the bottom of a frying pan after you made a meal, and you came back later to eat it—oily, greasy, and not intentionally part of the dish. The “crisped Parmesan” just tasted like scraps. The piece of Parma ham (or whatever it was) on top added nothing of value. The waitresses were nice, but the service wasn't that good. Multiple waitresses approached us too often asking us the same questions - felt very rushed. One asked if we were finished our food whilst we were still eating. They should focus on improving the quality of their food rather than the aesthetics. Overall, I left feeling genuinely sad, disappointed and very cheated by the experience, having paid almost £85.

Right opposite Waverley Station. I stumbled in randomly with my wife and suitcases as we were catching a train a few hours later. So. Fantastic service. Paulaner on draft a lovely lunch and we left full, merry and happy. Not necessarily in that order. Cheers 🍻

Phoebe was delightful! We came in for a wee drink before she our train back home and she gave us such a laugh! Love her so much, an asset to the team.

WOW! What an incredible venue - every city needs a Brewhemia. We hosted our first ever Singles Event at Brewhemia in 7 November the room was absolutely buzzing. So many people we asked had NEVER been to Brewhemia before so it was great to introduce lots of people to this fab venue. A huge thank you to the whole team who made our first (hopefully first of many) event at Brewhemia an absolute blast. It really is a unique and special place to have a fun night out. Next time we're in Edinburgh we'll be trying what sounds like a legendary brunch.

The atmosphere was lovely and so was the service. We had a Sunday Roast and it wasn‘t the best, the gravy was a bit watery and the knives were very blunt. The cheesy cauliflower was way too liquidy.

Its one of the biggest venues im Edinburgh, in the heart of old town. For that, it is both unique and can get a bit "empty" and not so cosy. The live music room could be toned down a bit when not super busy. The band was a bit meh. No vibe and impossible to have a chat like that. Beer selection is good. Food was ok. The pie was awesome. The pork belly was a bit tough and was nothing special. I liked the rueben croquettes. The spätzle was just super disappointing. Portions are on the small size. Prices are just ridicoulously high. Seems they are attempting to be fancy/avant garde, when German/alpine/British cuisine is all about comfort. Service was okish, maybe. Music hall bartender seemed lost or did not speak English properly. Waiters changed all the time. My beer waited some 5 minutes staring at me on the bar until someone finally decided to serve it while the bartender and a manager had a long chat. "Quiete" area waitress was super nice and maybe more attentious than I would've liked to, borderline rushing us from step to step, which was weird bc the place was empty. I think I told her some 5 times we wanted to have starters and order later on, she kept coming back for mains. She didnt know anything about what was on tap and served one of the rounds with something else other than we ordered. Smiley but not genuine. All and all the while experience felt impersonal, expensive and characterless. Its a shame bc I like the idea of the place, but execution is lacking.

Soulless, massive joint full of bangers on a Saturday night

What an extraordinary place! The atmosphere is amazing and the food was devine.

Actualmente viviendo en Perlach durante los últimos seis años, he tenido la oportunidad de visitar Oktoberfest en varias ocasiones, y Brewhemia no se clasificaría como Oktoberfest. Decidimos no cenar ya que las críticas anteriores pusieron de relieve las inconsistencias y los largos tiempos de espera. Me alegro de que evitamos la cena, ya que una pareja que habíamos hablado había experimentado la misma larga espera para la comida, problema recurrente aquí. ¿Cómo es posible malinterpretar lo que es Oktoberfest? Pero Brewhemia lo hace y decepcionantemente, no Festbier, no Marzen, que son ambos básicos de una tienda de campaña o evento Oktoberfest, solo una cerveza alemana, aparentemente se debe a su vínculo comercial con Paulaner. Beneficio sobre autenticidad según el personal del bar. Su folleto proyecta este glamouroso escenario del Oktoberfest, pero nada se asemeja mucho en persona, ni decoración, ni Tracht, ni falta de gama de cerveza, ni banda de Oompah. Más o menos una cerveza alemana y hotdog. ¡Las Normas Comerciales pueden necesitar investigar! ¡Mañana nos vamos a la verdadera fiesta en Princes Street Gardens, segunda vez con suerte!

Halloween night is pretty lively here in Edinburgh. Went online and randomly picked this establishment due to its proximity to our hotel and the fact that they had live music. Pleasantly surprised. We ordered three things to split. The hummus was tasty. It’s pretty hard to go wrong with hummus. The surprise of the evening were the cauliflower wings. Absolutely delicious and the sauce was so good we wanted to lick the plate. The hamburger was thick and it was obvious that it was cooked using top shelf ground beef. Restaurants here in Scotland are required by law to thoroughly cook their meet. In spite of being well done, it tasted remarkably good. Very reasonably priced as well. Got away with spending less than $100 (£77). That’s including 3 glasses of Prosecco. The band played all American covers including Monster Mash in honor of Halloween. They added to the enjoyment of the evening. The restaurant has very cool decor as well.

Freshly made. The ingridients were top notch, but spices were dearly missed. That delicious pretzel is screaming for some well imagined and made sauce. Overall not bad, but could be SO MUCH MORE!!! P.s.: drafted lemonade? At a place that looks THIS FREAKIN' AWSOME fresh handmade lemonade should be a MUST!

Large rooms, brewing kettle inside, gallery above, actually good seating. However, the acoustics are much too loud and the music is also quite loud. Service friendly and quick. But: one of the worst meals ever: three thin slices of beef loin, very stringy. The food had already gotten cold. A bed of vegetables, some of which have been completely over-fried. What was really bad was a big brown, fried dough ring. The food was returned and half of the money was refunded. Many types of beer. Unfortunately I ordered shandy, which was enriched with cranberry syrup. Unfortunately it didn't taste good.

Brewhemia was absolutely one of the highlights of our destination wedding week in Edinburgh! We treated 20 of our closest friends and family to a lovely Tuesday afternoon tea in lieu of a traditional rehearsal dinner. Our guests LOVED and RAVED about the delicious sandwiches, treats, and scones--to this day, I have yet to have a scone as scrumptious as the one I had at Brewhemia's Afternoon Tea! But aside from the food and tea (which was SO GOOD, 10/10), the service was even more spectacular! The staff were so attentive, patient, kind, and accommodating for our large group, making the experience wonderful for everyone. Whenever someone says they are headed to Edinburgh, I recommend Brewhemia for afternoon tea without hesitation. <3

Nuestros niveles de energía de bandera pronto aumentaron una vez que entramos en el área del restaurante, brillante, limpio y con un verdadero zumbido de actividad. Todos optamos por el asado de carne Rabbies 3, con la promesa de yorkshires ilimitados y salsa. La comida era impresionante. Fantásticas porciones y totalmente delicioso. Había algo de música en vivo para agregar a la atmósfera y el personal era atento y claramente enfocado al cliente. Estuvimos varias horas probando las cervezas y cócteles, el precio total estaba en línea con lo que esperábamos y era una excelente relación calidad-precio. Recomendaría a cualquiera, una experiencia realmente agradable

Tuvimos un tiempo fantástico la comida era deliciosa... el mejor asado que he comido! Tuvimos algunos cantantes en vivo actuando, lo cual fue una sorpresa ya que no habíamos estado en este restaurante antes. Increíble servicio y ambiente! No puedo recomendar lo suficiente!!

Sitting a table of 8 diners between unpleasantly live loud music and two speakers made the whole experience pretty unbearable. Not much point in dining together if you can't talk to each other

Food was okay, had the lamb burger, very tasty but a bit over processed and It was clearly a frozen burger in a bun. Atmosphere was fantastic and waiting staff lovely.

Cool place but the bar service is awful. Way too few bar staff. Was a good 30 minutes queuing each time. Gave it another shot, went back for a second (and last) time, service hasn't changed and really let's the place down.

Had an hour to eat and get to my train but my schnitzel arrived in 10, thanks Nick! Also there was live singing which was nice but I wasn't paying much attention...

Absolutely loved this bar. Went here twice on our stay in Edinburgh. Tank beer from Czech Republic. Staropromen imported on tank, budvar on tank. Also bitburger pilsner and pauliner on tap. We ordered a sourdough pizza which came in a little steep at over £16 for a margarita. I thought the drinks prices were a little on the high side at just under £7 a pint. I only usually pay that much at the airport. That being said. It was good enough for me to visit this bar twice, so the price obviously didn't put me off too much. The bar itself was beautiful and massive. The beer speaks for itself. Keep up the good work but remember tips should be at the discretion of the customer and should not be added onto a bill as people feel awkward asking for it to be removed. I didn't ask for it to be removed but I really do think it's a cheeky little scam. The food is pricey enough and the staff should be paid accordingly.

Went in for a drink as I had time to kill waiting for my train. Got the feeling that I was in the way a bit, they would prefer a group of people not a single person. No crisps at the bar, could only get food off menu and I didn't have time for that. Nice beer though but don't think il go back as it has not left a good impression.

Services was by Ryan, his first day and he was delighted, clearly an asset to the establishment and hopefully is treated as well as he treats his customers. Thank you Ryan.

Very disappointing dinner. The food was beyond average. Burger was cold, bread was stale, more batter than chicken on the parmi, portions/sizes were small and food overall was so bland there was basically no flavour. Not worth the 60£ we paid nor the 13£ service fee. Very overpriced for the quantity and quality. Only good bit of our visit was the live music.

Great place just outside Edinburgh Waverley Station. Loads of drinks options, clean environment with great atmosphere.

Cozy but spacious place with a wide selection of beers on the tap, some good food to pair with your drink, table service was really excellent, very attentive and friendly.

No slimline tonic (Fever Tree Light isn't slimline because it contains sugar). Cramped seating.

This is a damn cool pub! Not only is it freaking huge, but it also has a wonderful stage for live music which just adds so much more to the atmosphere of the place! Budda bowl was also pretty delicious!

An evening visit for beer and snacks after work. Note the amount we spent in not indicative of the price - we were entertaining - Whilst I am not a drinker the array of available beer was impressive. The staff were Friendly and it was not too loud etc. we reserved a space so had lots of room and it was very comfortable to sit chat and drink 🍷 Bar food was nice we ordered pizza, sausage chips etc. felt like a reasonable deal with lots of 2 for 1 👍 bargain I personally did not like the cauliflower wings 😱 needed me some chicken. I would definitely recommend Brewhemia nice part of town too ! However there are down sides You can’t create a tab and if you put money behind the bar that’s not spent they give it back as vouchers. This is both horrible and a huge turn off especially when doing client entertainment The manager was less than helpful and a bit full of himself to be honest, but the staff were super nice. Sadly they also ran out of cask beer which again is madness But in all as I did not have to deal with the manager or the bill issue all was good for me

When you walk in it does not seem huge from inside but it is huge multiple bar, open for breakfast to afternoon tea and dinner.

AFTERNOON TEA review. When here one Saturday during the Fringe, it was jumping. It is a massive place, nicely decorated, a range of seats. Absolutely loved the copper stills. A lady was singing at the piano. We had 2 tables just for the 2 of us in a wee bay window. When the afternoon tea came out, we were grateful that we had the 2 tables. The platters were massive. Fantastic service, lots of staff on and always cleaning. Food was great. No issue for a doggy bag. Only let down was that the teaspoons were dirty. Would definitely go back for food, coffee and cake or just drinks. Great location.

Afternoon tea was standard,the side door was open the whole time so place was freezing. Service charge added on the bill that you can request to have off. Wouldn’t return for afternoon tea but the cocktails are nice and Barman seemed very knowledgeable about them.

We stopped here for lunch immediately after arriving in Edinburgh by train. The atmosphere and food is fantastic. Our waitress was absolutely brilliant. So professional and friendly. Couldn’t fault her service. I had to tell her how great she had been. She deserves a promotion! Our experience was so good that we decided to get lunch here again before catching our train back home. This time we were seated in one of the larger booths on the left hand side as you enter. There was cold air blowing onto us and giving us the chills. I asked ( the manager I think) if the aircon unit above us could be turned off but was told it wasn’t even on and there was nothing they could do. We were made to feel we needed to just put up with it. We weren’t offered another table elsewhere even-though there were plenty of others that were empty. Our food then arrived so we stayed put and ate our meal whilst shivering. We then asked for two cappuccinos so we could warm up. They took about 25 minutes to come because the person making the coffees got the order wrong and seemed to be preparing other drinks orders before making ours right. Our waiter was great to be fair. He was very professional and apologised for the slow service, and took the coffees off our bill. We couldn’t wait to get the hell out of there because we were so cold. We were hoping to relax and perhaps order another couple of drinks as we had time to kill. It was cold and raining outside but it was better being outside rather than sit at the table with freezing cold air blowing on us. We have no idea where it was coming from either. If the manager would just have had the decency to set up another table for our comfort, we would have been fine. So sadly, our second experience was not a patch on the first. Just goes to show that the staff on duty and the table you get allocated can really make the difference between a good experience and a bad one. The food was great both times though!

Nice place and good atmosphere. Not ideal for a date scenario as from my experience they don’t do drinks table service so need to spend half the time waiting to get served, when you should be busy getting to know the person not waste time?

We went to the cafe up Fleshmarket Close. It was the very first place in Edinburgh we stopped at for a cappuccino and it was really good. The server was very friendly and helpful. Was great for a quick beverage and a few steps to the Royal Mile

We arrived for dinner and drinks and were informed that half the menu was not available to us due to the table we were sat at. We did not pick our table. Our server Steven told us if we were not happy to just leave. Horrible service. The table 10ft away from us were allowed full menu but because we were say at a certain table, outwith out control, we were not allowed certain menu items. Cannot be sure this was not classist discrimination because it certainly came that way. When everyone around you is eating pizza but your table is ‘not allowed pizza’ it certainly feels targeted.

Came on recommendations and reviews. The food was, i have to unfortunately say nothing special - we sent one course back as it was cold and the replacement wasn't much warmer. Lots of beers, mostly lagers - fair enough for a German theme - had Guinness instead. It was OK, nothing special, have to say, I won't be rushing back.

We accidentally found this restaurant and were positively surprised! We tried different food options: desserts, vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, all of those were amazing. The pricing is also nice, for the smaller price you get a high quality food. We had a pleasure to be served by a very nice and friendly waitress Lily who set the atmosphere for our visit. Many thanks to them!

We went during the fringe. It is a cracking bar with lots of choice and right next to the train station. Well worth an hour or two in here.

Beautiful pub with a great beer selection

Spacious pub & restaurant right next to the main train station. We stopped by for a Sunday roast, unfortunately, the meat was dry and gravy was not enough. More sauce would definitely do. Very slow service, considering it wasn't busy at all, waiters checking their phones rather than taking care of guests. Choir on the top floor made our lunch enjoyable, excellent singers.👍

Good food and beer. Maybe the quantity should be a Little bit more. Very nice location with live music. Llocal People enjoy this pub, if you want to stay away from tourist trap, this Is the right Place.

Lovely atmosphere and lots of tables to choose from for Brunch. Unfortunately not great for Vegetarians who like eggs and an inflexible chef who refuses to swap out the meat haggis for veggie haggis even though they supply this for the vegan fry. Had no issues with charging me full price for the meat option without the meat or any substitutes. Kinda disappointing- was looking forward to this and thought I’d found my new brunch hang out.

Absolutely deplorable. I visited this place and was met with an astonishing lack of courtesy. Despite having made a purchase, I was rudely denied permission to make a phone call outside. The staff were unhelpfully brusque, treating me with a level of disdain that’s simply unacceptable. If you value even a shred of decency and respect, avoid this place like the plague.

I had about an hour and a half before my train out of Edinburgh. So decided to stop in here. The waiter at the door told me to sit anywhere so I went and found a seat at the back. I then sat and waited about 15 minutes, with waiter and managerial staff walking past me constantly. Nobody gave me a menu, asked me if I was alright, or even acknowledged my presence. So I walked out. Sadly, this type of thing is common with large restaurants and bars across the UK. A certain type of arrogance that makes you wait. And wait. And wait. Me leaving makes no difference to Brewhemia, pretty sure the huge tourist crowds will fill them out night after night. But I thought I'd post this anyway.

They charge more than half the price for a half pint. Egregious and should be illegal. The vibes are just really piss poor. And I'm sick of their incoherent lies about Rabbie Burns and his supposed forays into the Czech Republic.

Came here on the recommendation of friends but we were underwhelmed. Quickly seated (we had a reservation) only to wait about 15-20min to have our order taken for one cocktail and two plates to share. We were sat across from the bar so we thought we’d have speedy service, only for the food to come before the drinks and watch several (3) bar staff and (2/3?) servers walk past our drink on the mat while we sat and waited. Wouldn’t return ourselves but if we did we’d sit at the bar for (hopefully) more attentive service. The best part of the meal was the chili butter from the prawns to use on the very dry onion rings that were supposed to have sauce? Think they could stand to invest more in quality servers than purely aesthetics.

The food was absolutely amazing! Haggis and black pudding were out of this world. Pleased to see a vegan breakfast item straight at the top, so we ordered Vegan Fry too and it was excellent! Very generous portions and attentive staff. Loved this place!

Nice place to have a drink. But I find an automatic service fee of 12% for bringing the drinks to the table because you had to do the rest yourself really cheeky!

The staff does not know if the clients are in a good or bad situation. Food orders depend on where you sit. It is not possible to order even a slice of bread if it is not on the menu. VERY EXPENSIVE. There are children practically working here and the poor do what they can. I give them a 10.

Beautiful establishment, a very friendly welcome. An afternoon tea, composed of excellent homemade scones but the other pastries were inferior. Great time.

This place is buzzing for the whole day, with a good menu available throught, great evening live acts and a constant flow of energy!

Amazing atmosphere, I didn't eat but food looked lovely. Totally packed out, children and adults having a great time. Decor is very Instagramable. Cocktail menu was excellent and both tap and tank beers. Not much to choose from by means of regular lagar like Carling, carlsberg etc but tank beer was perfect for a change.

Nice cocktails, good vibe with live jazz music. The cocktails were good, the Sunday roast was ok-ish for me. But the starters were the star of the show, especially the baked camember, we really enjoyed it! The portions are very big here so be mindful.

I'm not a fan of IPA beer at all so unfortunately this isn't a place I would normally go. But the surroundings are decent.

Went for the Gentleman's tea. Can argue with the quantity or quality of the food. Would recommend, certainly seemed better value than the normal high tea. Bar staff downstairs could have been a bit quicker at serving. Hence the 1 star removed for service.

We were looking for somewhere to have drinks and be able to walk easily to Waverley train station. We were delighted with here. The place is huge. It was not too busy. Blues band was playing which was great. We had a nice table and we were able to chat easily as music volume was perfect. Drinks reasonable ((£5 offer). One round took a while to make but to be honest, the drinks were great so we didn’t mind. We didn’t eat but food looked great. Over definately a good place to meet up have drinks and next time we plan to eat.

Our waitress was lovely, very attentive and friendly. The food was delicious we got what was a twist on eggs Benedict served with black pudding and haggis. Very filling and hearty food. The layout and decoration is delightful aswell

Food was ok, a little expensive for what you get but I’m not a fan of live music while trying to eat and have a conversation. The 12.5% service charge is also a rip off, happy to tip for good service but this should not be included on a bill.

The street where the restaurant is sits on a stairs street. Why is relevant? With a nice touristy potential it is a dirty alee, with stinky and miserable enclaves where the homeless spend their time. The restaurant, when getting in, is very modern, well designed, with a welcoming atmosphere. The menu is varied and potentially good. Our service starts by being asked if we had a reservation. We are at noon and the restaurant is half empty. Obviously there was room for us. It continues by the same person coming twice within 10 minutes to ask us what would we like. The second time when she came she said: I wanted to confirm. Obviously, she missed the fact she took the order already. The food came and for a cold cuts plate we get no bread. We ask for some bread which comes within 10-15 min. We thought she toasted it or went to the butchery for some fresh bread. The bread was two days old and we asked nothing more. When we asked for the bill we got a 12.5% service charge added by default (we've been through Scotland for the past two weeks and nobody added more than 10%). Bottom line: the restaurant could be very good, but its location and the service were under par.

Standard modern pub with nice atmosphere and good service

Appalling drinks! Spent £24.50 on two drinks which were not drinkable. How can you get a mainstream cocktail so wrong. Let the bar staff know and she went to speak to her colleague and they just laughed. No offer to make fresh drinks or refund.

Autêntico Pub escocês. Com música ao vivo, agitação e muita bebida! Super astral! Gostamos muito! Atendimento muito bom. Comi um macarrão de batatas, típico da Escócia. Delicioso!

Really disappointing experience. Made a booking for a large group for dinner and drinks. Limited space available despite communicating the group size. Very poor service. Lots of miscommunication from the servers, some saying we can order food from the restaurant and bar and some only saying bar. GF guest told they were out of all snacks and that they don’t do gluten free options only to be then told if you come back in 5-10 we may be able to help you. Long waits for drinks and probably the worst expresso martini. Do not recommend.
