This is the kind of place that you want to keep secret! One of our favourite places to stop off for a drink on the way home after work. It's just a pub, the beers are good, we love their taste in music but check out the cinema room!

Fantastic atmosphere and fun to sit in the back on the "beds" during a long day, especially as a break from the madness of the fringe. Not too awful prices either!

What a great little find this was! Quirky decor, friendly staff, fantastic layout, cosy in some areas, huge chairs you can lie on, a room for games!! 10/10 will definitely be back!

you can tell this pub is great without even going in- it’s always full and vibrant! There is a great selection of drinks- we went for peach beer. The atmosphere was upbeat but there was a cosy intimate vibe, the only thing that could be better would be turning down the music

Completely different place compared to the usual decadence of the south side of Edinburgh. Great music, amazing staff and atmosphere. Never a dull night.

Unique pub with its very own individual atmosphere in the city centre. Staff are super friendly, service is quick, even at its busiest, Original decor complimented by a great selection of cinemtic & sporting memorabilia on the walls. I hope they still do cinema nights. Popular with all ages. They know how to do a proper pub here.

Not everyone's cup of tea but a great quirky wee pub. This is my second visit (1st time was over 8 years ago!) and visited again today. The place has never changed, and is great for a wee pint! Really love the cinema room at the back with the old films on!

Great music, great beers and rum. Mad cinema with beds/sofas. Stopped in this weekend for the first time in years (moved out the city 10 years ago), so glad places like this still exist.

Small, cosy pub, with a good range of drinks, including craft beer.

They will sell you a drink without informing that they’re closing in 15min, then they will yell at you to give up unfinished drink and leave.

Quirky little pub on a backstreet near the Edinburgh Festival Theatre. Has two Fringe venues. Well worth a visit.

What a gem of a pub. We loved the great atmosphere here, and the unusual decor and lively buzz. The staff are great too - we watched them efficiently and effectively ask a group to leave (obviously not high on alcohol but something else) and we were all reduced to helpless laughter when the last one out shouted that they would leave a bad review on Trip Advisor! You can't give a bad review for this lovely place.

Very busy. Local regulars plus theatre goers so struggling to eventually squeeze into seats in a snug through the back. Good though with board games available. Good beers and quick service

Discovered this surprisingly cool place on a visit to Edinburgh in the summer of 2023. Bartenders were helpful to a poor Norwegian a long way from home, and the beers were nice. We also enjoyed the music, and the diversity of the clientele. 10/10 in style and music selection.

Always liked the Monkey, haven't bn in fr a couple of years since my m8 lived above the barbers next door. Same goes fr the Monkey in Leith Walk ,great crowds ,great atmosphere, great food and wild selection of alcoholic drinks and non alcoholic drinks. If I recall, the Brass Monkey in Leith walk holds a quiz nite each week with decent cash prizes. Great pub to take the dog in fr a nice cold pint. Dog friendly and helpful staff.

A fantastic little pub tucked away off Nicolson Street. Friendly staff and coffee available besides the usual alcohol on offer. The interior is really cosy and quite cavernous with plenty of seating and space to stand at the bar. I didn't try any food but had to put a star rating on the review to post it.

Always a nice place for a drink with friends! Inviting and cosy atmosphere, good selection of drinks.

Quaint bar which is rather tardislike - bigger on the inside than would appear from the outside. Bar staff were very friendly and overall the place was pretty chill. I'd stop in there again for a cheeky pint or two. Lacked crisps. I think. Good prices and great drink selection. Even had Pernod, something 10 other bars had failed to offer.

Used to drink here years decades ago! Event visit and it’s still a great boozer with a great vibe and beer! Still doing the movies too which is a very unique seeking point. Well worth a visit!

Brass Monkeys are cool pubs, with a quirky blend of traditional and modern features. Only really stopped here for a "cheeky" pint after work so can't really comment, but I would happily go back. 3 stars for atmosphere, there was a group of shady looking guys by the door eyeballing us, not sure why. Didn't eat the food.

Wonderful little hidden gem in central Edinburgh. Good prices, nice bartenders, and a genuine pub vibe. Avoid the tourist traps and walk the extra 1/2 mile to here instead.

Well hello to good times. When you slide up to a seat here you are sliding into a cozy place with a vibe that makes you feel like your taking on the smokey notes of good times gone past. Its fun. Its got character and its the right music to make this a long stop on a crawl

Great staff and a cool kind of opium den feel to it which could be interpreted as dinghy to the unappreciative. Buzzy and eclectic atmosphere.

The person who left the "rude staff" comment must have caught someone having a bad day. I had nothing but a good time with a friendly bartender and welcoming customers. Went there twice in my 3 day trip.

Bar staff was very unnecessarily rude. We left after 1 drink because we felt so unwelcome. The drinks were lovely but hospitality was awful.

Nice pub/restaurant that is very central. Very friendly staff had a very nice pub standard meal. Place was busy but food was served in a timely manner and hot.

Descubrimos esta bar de casualidad, volviendo de comprar galletas de mantequilla del Lidl. Si,has leido bien, del lidl (son mucho mas economicas que en el cualquier tienda de souvenirs) En todo el bar eramos los unicos turistas alli, el resto era gente escocesa y mayormente estudiantes. El precio de las pintas es el más barato y con diferencia de todos los sitios que probamos, nos costó la mitad que en cualquier otro bar. El establecimiento disponía de varias salas donde la decoracion era muy scottish... grandes espejos, gran numero de cuadros, sillones de madera, tableros de ajedrez como mesas...El ambiente era agradable y distendido y la cerveza estaba muy rica. Un acierto.

This is a great pub in the heart of the southside of Edinburgh. No food options but good selection of beers on tap and very friendly staff. Can get busy and the seating options are limited so be prepared to stand initially if heading there in the evening.

Éramos 3 , la primera ronda estupenda. La segunda el Gintonic sin carbónico. Se lo decimos al camarero pelo corto y barba y como si le das los buenos días, ni caso!!!! Menudo personal!!!!

Gin tonic sin gas y cuando lo dijimos, el camarero nos contestó fue que la tónica estaba en fecha y que aún quedaba para que caducara. Ni solución al problema ni opciones al gin tonic que nos cobraron pero no nos tomamos. Nada recomendable.

Great little pub with its own cinema and great staff, beer choice not huge but had what we wanted with Weihenstephaner so all good, if you like shiny white plastic surfaces and prosecco this isn't for you, recommend 😀

This is a great spot to hang out for a while. The staff is great, the drinks are inexpensive, and the atmosphere is just fun. We also were there on a trivia night and that was great fun. They have an excellent host for their trivia night & I'd highly recommend stopping by and giving it a try, it's good fun.

Very cool pub with plenty to choose from and unique seating areas. Student discounts available on certain pints with proof of ID. Great to stop in for a drink or two!

Brass monkey is best described as an eccentric pub. From the classic film based decor, to the entire room made of sofas (seriously - you have to see it to believe it), this is one of my favourite pubs in Edinburgh. Drinks are very reasonable for the area, and there's always some good student deals on. The pub quiz run by Dr Paul every Monday is always great fun as well, but gets busy - go early if you want to get a seat!

Great bar just in Drummond Street just off Nicolson Street in Edinburgh with a good selection of beers and spirits. Staff are really friendly and it's got a really relaxed atmosphere.

This place ebbs and flows, one minute it's really busy, next it's dead. Bar staff rank among the best in Edinburgh.

I liked it here as there was a good mix of ages despite it being very popular with students. It was very busy each time I went and it was hard to find somewhere to sit, but I was there during the Fringe so I'm not sure if it's always this busy. The drinks were very reasonably priced and the staff were friendly. I loved the decor and the different rooms which help to give the place atmosphere. I'll definitely pay a visit next time I'm in Edinburgh.

A really nice pub, a bit like a tardis. I have never been in a pub that played a whole Townes Van Zandt album so was hugely impressed.

Cosy movie themed bar, real silver screen age art deco surroundings. Check out the lounge back room set up for showing classic films while relaxing with a pint (check times/dates). Very nice selection on tap and a good selection of spirits as well. Solid set of advertised cocktails to choose from. Sometimes challenging to even get a seat though, popular, so even standing room it at a premium. If you can find a cosy corner you could have a winning night chilling with friends.

We fell in love with this place! We stumbled upon it by complete accident and was the perfect way for us to spend some time before an evening flight. We adored the cinema room and as it was quiet enough we got to choose the film! Highly recommend
