Teníamos las sartenes - un poco diferente, muy lleno y sabroso. Nos sentamos afuera. Hacía frío al principio, pero avisamos muy rápido con los calentadores. Buen café y buen servicio.

Really nice wee place, dog friendly. Fair enough prices great staff great playlist all our fave 2014 hits. We were bopping while we ate. I had crispy chicken tenders which were fine similar to a spoons chicken tenders idea. I had truffle parmesan fires vey good 10 out of 10. Cesar salad had plenty dressing g tasty crutons. My other half loved the goat burger said its one of the best burgers she had in a while. Apparently the cappuccinos had was INCREDIBLE.

This needs to be a bigger restaurant always love the food here but the service speaks for itself always amazing and always very well looked after, I don’t live around here so I always remember a little treat to down the hatch Evan served us today and made sure we were all happy nothing was too much for him.

Really delicious food. Accommodated for coeliac and had gluten free burgers & buns. Staff were very helpful and friendly and showed me allergy table for the menu to be clear about what did/didn’t have gluten.

Este lugar es excelente, recién preparado, comida deliciosa, visité dos veces mientras estaba en casa y cuando lo haga de vuelta a casa, se convertirá en un accesorio regular. Reservé en ambas ocasiones para el desayuno, ya que me habían advertido que podría estar muy ocupado y diría que reservar no puede hacer daño. Mi pedido fue tomado muy rápido y la comida llegó igual de rápido. Pedí la sartén canadiense que es 2 tortitas empapadas en jarabe de arce, 2 erupciones, 2 salchichas y 2 huevos fritos + un hachís marrón que decliné. Realmente fue un gran desayuno - mi nueva combinación de sabores reconfortante son tortitas, huevos fritos suaves y jarabe de arce, es una combinación épica. El personal es muy educado, profesional y amable.

Ordered a delivery from down the hatch. My daughter paid £4.99. for speedy delivery. It took an hour. She got an update to say it had been delivered. It was sitting on the doorstep. Noone heard the door being knocked. I was disappointed in the size of the burger. The food was also cold

Great place to have breakfast even outside . Heaters on made the difference to our experience.

Food was very tasty, the only problem we had was one of the girls working there was making so much noise cleaning/polishing the cutleries next to our table, I think you should stop doing that when you have people in there as it’s a bit annoying.

Had brunch with my partner and absolutely loved it! We got the Canadian and Argentinian Skillets and both were so good, and great value for money! Would highly recommend booking as it was pretty busy.

Food good, though the breakfast has gone down hill in recent times. Problem with here though is the service. The whole service operating model is built around making the staff have an easy ride, it's crap for the customers. They make you stand outside in the cols while they sort out menus, makes zero sense.

Cheeky staff who roll their eyes at you making simple requests. Wouldn’t accommodate for a disabled customer and declined to make reasonable adjustments in line with the Equality Act. The food is mediocre and overpriced. First and last time I will ever visit them.

Reservado y visitado con mi madre hoy. Pedido 2 sartenes desayuno se ocupa de cafés y zumo fresco por £ 30, que era una buena oferta en comparación con otros lugares que he estado. El personal era muy amable y servicial. El desayuno salió después de una espera muy corta. El desayuno era uno de los mejores desayunos que he tenido en siglos, incluso los frijoles estaban calientes. Honestamente no podía faltar a nuestra visita de hoy

Great brekky, quick service. Seating is mostly outside so it’s very cold so wrap up! Felt like they could have had more heaters or offered blankets maybe that’s the only reason for one less star. Would again

Amazing breakfasts. Hard to choose between all the options. Great vivid safety measures for sit in - one way system to your seat and exit, temperature checks on arrival, hand sanitizer and ordering from your table.

Visited in between Christmas and New Year, and it was extremely busy as always. A table with several children had tablets and phones on with the volume up full, making it much noisier than usual. The food was fresh and tasty but very expensive for a burger, hot dog, or sandwich with no fries.

My partner and I have been here a few times while taking the dog out, and it's been great every single time. The food is great and the prices aren't half bad either. Staff are very friendly and if you sign in the parking is free Also, the fact that it's dog friendly is a big win in my book! Would highly recommend 👌

Outstanding place to eat. Even outside, under the heaters, it was a great pleasure. One of our party is gluten intolerant and their menu has excellent options available. The portions are a good side and delicious. Highly recommend.

Visitamos en diciembre entre Navidad y Año Nuevo. Reservamos con antelación, lo cual fue una buena idea ya que estaba bastante ocupado. Todas las mesas interiores estaban reservadas y pasamos el día fuera bajo los calentadores, que estaba bien. Llegamos para el desayuno y aprovechamos la oferta de sartenes - 2 x sartenes más bebidas calientes y jugo por un precio fijo. El servicio fue rápido y eficiente. La comida estaba bien. La sartén escocesa era una porción decente, aunque el bollo tattie estaba un poco empapado, y parte del tocino demasiado cocido, el resto estaba sabroso y bien cocido. Tuve el mexi - sartén para variar, que aunque sabrosa la carne le faltaba un poco de condimento. Para 6 de nosotros eran alrededor de £ 90, solo pagos con tarjeta.

Always a treat to go here. We only go a couple of times a year when we're staying with family nearby. The burgers are fantastic, full of flavour.

My partner and I both had burgers and shared a poutine! Food came so fast and the place was really well staffed and organised. Prices were really reasonable and the food was so worth it!! Recommend for anyone in the area!

Food was absolutely top notch. First time going and couldn’t believe the quality and flavour of the food. Brilliant wee surprise it was. Definitely going back, they’ve got a heated outdoor seating area which is comfortable.

Got the vegetarian burger and a bacon cheeseburger. Both hit the spot massively. Didn’t have to wait overly long for them either

Although the hatch dog was cooked well and had good flavour, it was overly salty, making it hard to finish. Some lettuce & tomato might've made it nicer, but I suppose vegetables are not very popular. The toilet was locked because the light was spoilt, which is understandable. However, it's unacceptable not to have a sign saying the toilet was out of order, or have the waiters inform the customers. As a result, I waited outside in the cold for 5 minutes, went back in, and went out to try the toilet again to no avail, before I went back in again. I had to personally go up to the waiter and ask about their toilet. And then they suggested I try the toilet in another restaurant a distance away, which I had to walk in feeling like I'm intruding on them, using another restaurant's toilet without paying. So, the experience here was deeply unsatisfactory.

Ordered the main dish of poutine with pigs in blankets on top. Real nice mix of flavours and a filling portion 😀

Took the kids here for an end of weekend milkshake last Sunday (they shakes are great!). My middle son dropped his on the floor after one sip 😬 and was inconsolable. The super staff brought him out a new one....so kind, and really really appreciated, thank you!! 💕🙏

Been here a few times now for their breakfast skillets deal (2x skillets, hot drink and juice for £30) , which albeit has gone up a bit in price, is still a good deal. I always go for the mexican skillet which is fantastic. Always found the staff friendly and helpful too, recommended !

Great breakfast spot by the water

Very very disappointed after reading the amazing reviews. I'm really not somebody to make a negative review. But feel I need to for the sake of others who may make the same mistake that we did! Specifically went here because they advertise that they do brunch. Arrived at 11.20am on Friday morning on the way to the airport to have brunch. Sat down and were told the "the kitchen doesn't open for lunch until 12pm" . I said, but we are here for brunch. To be told "the kitchen is closed". I then pointed to people that were sat there eating brunch! Won't be back!!!! I suggest that you update your Google profile to avoid further disappointed customers.

I love a fry up as much as anyone, (breakfasts are great here!), If you like fried comfort food - you will love this place, But no healthy options on the menu at all? Dishes and menu overall needs a bit of balance. A bit of veg (not fried) or side salad wouldn't hurt - honest!

So this place has always been a regular go to for delivery for my partner and I. We always order the large maple bacon poutine on the Deliveroo app that was priced at 9.50. Tried to place an order tonight only to see that they’ve scrapped the large portion. Called up and asked why the large portion wasn’t available anymore, only to be told it was a managerial decision. So if you want to order a large man sized portion you have to order two sides at the price of £6.75 each, bringing your new price to £13.50. So now you have to pay an extra £4 for a large which is a bit of a joke. I just Don’t appreciate getting fleeced for my favourite Canadian fast food. Bring back the large portion! P.s I’m not a unit, just a hungry man who appreciates a large portion of poutine at £9.50!! 😂

Been in and out for years now - tried all the brekkies and most of the main menu items too. All outstanding - worth how pricey it is and it's always a large portion so value for money is there. Cannot recommend enough but make sure you book as it's always busy on weekends!

Started our holidays by dropping in to Down the Hatch. Good food and atmosphere, it was very busy at 10.30am but worth while. Not the cheapest but certainly true you get what you pay for.

I remember Karinka’s Cafe fondly. This place is so underwhelming. I stopped for coffee and cake. “Have you a reservation?” No “You’ve missed breakfast” I only want coffee and cake. “We don’t sell cake or biscuits” I laughed, saying I hadn’t been in a cafe that didn’t. “We’re a restaurant , not a cafe” So, I had a very poor coffee, and sat puzzled as to why I bothered. It’s a tin shed with picnic tables. Staff are obviously unhappy. Never to return.

My husband and I went here for breakfast on Tuesday morning, and we're already ready to go back. I had the Canadian skillet, and a latte, and my husband had the Scottish breakfast and a biscoff milkshake. Very generous portion sizes, the food was delicious, my husband tried the pancakes from my dish and said they were the best pancakes he'd ever had. Friendly and welcoming staff. I highly recommend it, and we definitely need to go back for lunch.

Great place, very busy today and they struggled to serve everyone quickly. They were very apologetic and working as hard as they could. Didn't detract from a nice meal.

Down the hatch must be 1 of the worst places in Edinborough for food Avoid avoid avoid 1 people have dogs sat on tables The people at the table next to us said sorry to the waitress and her reply. Don’t worry it happens all the time. 2 The food was saturated in Greece to the point where majority of the order was left upon the table 3 overpriced 4 I left the table with a server or dog hair in the back of my throat courtesy of the service from down the hatch 5 Extremely dirty outside with pet hair all around the corners don’t even look between the slats of the table that you’ve been served upon WILL NEVER RETURN

Had an issue with non gluten items on a celiac meal but was resolved. Make sure you double check when you get your meal though.

Wasn't sure where we were heading for breakfast this morning, but I'm so glad my friend brought us here. A wet and windy Sunday morning with most of the seating outside, but the place was packed which certainly indicates how good it us. Fantastic coffee and the breakfasts were bang on. See the attached picture and note how lovingly my pal is staring at his Scottish breakfast 🤣. Would definitely recommend.

Maybe the best burger I have even had! We came here after a 10k running event and had incredible burgers and milkshakes. We have since been back for pancakes and bacon and can't wait to go back again.

I love a bit of DTH and have been visiting for years - particularly for breakfast. On this visit however they seem to be suffering from the 'snickers' syndrome where the price keeps going up but the size keeps shrinking. My hot dog was anorexic - like a cheap hot dog from a jar (my bench mark is the Costco full beef dog which is about 2 inches in diameter) - think iKea hot dog. The burger was also a little slimmed down from our last visit. DTH is still a great stop off but it's trending towards needing to get back to its hearty meal origins.

Great at what they do, super service and excellent food at reasonable prices. The outdoor area is covered and heated and it all adds to the ambiance of the place. Selection of food is good and it even has a Doggie menu! Been for breakfast and lunch and never been disappointed. You do need to ask about the loyalty scheme as been there some 5-6 times and only just found out about it. However!!!! The toilets are not disabled friendly. Even for someone walking the step is huge and no chance with a wheelchair. Apparently their answer is use the facilities at the big shop next door, which frankly sucks

The staff are always great and the food is even better. Been here multiple times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Never a bad meal. You’ve got to try the Canadian skillet breakfast at least once!

Food was really good as always, but the service was a bit non-existent. We were forgotten about when it came to coming to take our order and then had to ask twice for the bill. It was busy but there were also lots of staff on shift. Wouldn't deter me from coming back but staff might need a bit more training.

Been here a good few times. The food is good (especially the breakfast skillets) and the location is fantastic. Went through a period of poor service (very rude) so we avoided it for a while - but now seems to be back to its best.

Best buger joint ive been to in Scotland. Quality food and milkshakes. Also they sell angus and oink which is a bonus. Its been good every time we have been. Edit... its great for breakfast too ( not sure why I can't add photos)

Very disappointing , we arrived for our table and were told we had 5 min to order as the kitchen was closing, mediocre food but rushed out before we were properly finished. Given a table outside to allow the inside to be cleaned. Will never return.

Dog friendly seating area meant our 2 could come with us, even had their own order from the doggy menu. Food has been fantastic every time we've visited and the servers are brilliant.
