Lovely building. Staff are very friendly and Donna the lady that does the cleaning is incredibly thorough. Don’t lose her! Brian who looks after the building maintenance keeps on top of his job and the place always has a fresh paint job somewhere thanks to him. The lighting could do with upgrading a bit, it’s a bit dingy in there due to it being an old cinema with very few windows.

Last time I visited this building was to see a band called the Gaslight Anthem many years ago. It is quite impressive how the venue has been repurposed and they managed to put toilets on both levels!. I had my 15 year old with me for food and we had a couple of drinks before going to see a band in a local record store. It was very busy as it was Saturday evening and the tables were turning over too quickly to keep up with the cleaning before people cleared them themselves. The food came quite quickly and was piping hot and very tasty. Overall it was quite messy due to the amount of people and there were too many different paper menus all over the tables. I'd like to go back mid week and try sitting upstairs as I don't think this was a typical experience.

I ordered meals and drinks and waitress asked my son for id which he supplied but was still refused alcohol. Luckily my son is an absolute gentleman and changed his order to a soft drink to accommodate this woman. As for the gourmet burger it was dry and tasteless. Went in with my friend earlier, we are both in our 20ties and look it. She has visible tattoos which are clearly professionally done, something you can't get done professionally until you're 18 in Scotland and she also has piercings which you can only legally get done professionally at 18. Despite this, her Id was declined by the waitress. We said fine and went on our way since we had somewhere to be anyway. Came back later just for some food. The place was packed so we had to sit outside. One of the men working came over and asked for ID since he saw us in earlier to which we showed him our ID but said we only wanted food. He went back in to speak to the other waitress and came back out to tell us we can't order drinks which was fine as we just wanted food and said so. He then told us we can't order food either despite initially saying we just couldn't order drinks. Complete joke really. Another Wetherspoons in the area accepted both of our IDs and allowed us to eat so clearly just these two certain individuals having an issue. There were also people in there being served drink who were very clearly much younger than us. Also after reading other reviews we weren't the only ones who received this treatment. Maybe some training for staff is needed here.

Absolutely buzzing with the anticipation of those in for a pre-show dinner, intermingled nicely with youngsters on dates, mates meeting up and two old cronies (that's us). Only Spoons has a Venn diagram of society who get along nicely by meeting in the middle. The building is an old picture house, stylishly converted into a spectacular dining room. Wonderful fun...except my wife's steak, which was almost enough to turn her vegetarian. It may have been the chef's shoe, dropped by mistake in their haste to feed the huge crowd.

Order and pay at the table using the app and it will then be delivered to you. Everything worked great again, but this time the quality of the food was subpar. We had the steak menu. Everything was cold, the fries were soggy and the meat was just tough and gristle. I haven't eaten so badly in a long time. If it's because of the increased prices, Wetherspoon should raise their prices by a few pounds before I give out such rubbish. Really a shame

I’ve always enjoyed going to this venue… Being an old cinema the building is very atmospheric, it’s usually buzzing and you know what to expect with a Wetherspoons… fairly mediocre food but cheap drinks, all important for students. I was with my son and his student friends on this occasion 10 Oct24. But I have to say it was dreadful… It was very busy as there was a show on next door at the Usher Hall but as people drifted away to attend the show, the service got worse ironically. Tables not cleaned, piled high with dirty crockery, having to wait ages for our drinks (my son ordered via the app) but the icing on the cake was the most miserable duty manager. I asked her politely to clear our table as it was one of only a handful of free places to sit and I was totally ignored. Repeated instances of poor customer service led me to ask her if it was her day off when you held the customer service course! Obviously she didn't like that....she refused to give her name and treated me like an inconvenience! My companions were treated with utter contempt, like naughty children, as ID (which, by the way, was all in order) was demanded of them. She was sullen, rude and quite frankly, in the wrong job!!!! Bearing in mind the number of young people who must be looking for jobs in Edinburgh, you need to get rid as she’s jeopardising your reputation. No matter what our ages we are all your customers and should be treated as such

Came for a works Christmas dinner. Service was really good, organised, knew what they were doing etc. Atmosphere was lovely and cosy. Food was seriously impressive - not the largest positions but the actual food is satiating and delicious, beautifully presented, and all round impressive. I had the salmon cannelloni, plaice, and apple for dessert. The only things were that my plaice was a tiny bit dry but everything else was absolutely perfect. The gnocchi was sooo good - would have loved some more gnocchi and less mushrooms as there was quite a lot of the latter. And my cannelloni was warm rather than being hot when served. All round delicious though! Will be back with my partner
