I'm not a Child of the Spoons, but if you only go there to check out the glorious restoration of a former cinema, you will be adequately rewarded. (The veg Asian noodles were borderline inedible, but there were much better options, it seemed. Not everything on the master menu is available, and the staff seemed confused when presented with it.) Buy a drink, go to the top floor and just take it all in. Spectacular.

Wetherspoons used to be cheap&cheerful.it no longer is but one thing that hasn't changed is the abysmal service;not the barmans fault he was on his own(&he clearly knew what he was about,he was serving people who'd been waiting longest)but surely over a dozen people waiting to be served should be telling the most inept of managers it was time to lend a hand

Every time I visit Edimburgh I go there! Always a pleasure! We take dinner there, very well decorated and lovely and fun atmosphere! Big space and well coordinated. Also, we have lost a wallet there and they kept it for us. Thank you so much at the restaurant manager of the place at that time for returning enterile it with all our belongings inside (very very honest - we really appreciate it seriously) and also thank you so much at the staff for keeping the wallet (probably it was found by a waitress) We will come back for sure!! Went in with my friend earlier, we are both in our 20ties and look it. She has visible tattoos which are clearly professionally done, something you can't get done professionally until you're 18 in Scotland and she also has piercings which you can only legally get done professionally at 18. Despite this, her Id was declined by the waitress. We said fine and went on our way since we had somewhere to be anyway. Came back later just for some food. The place was packed so we had to sit outside. One of the men working came over and asked for ID since he saw us in earlier to which we showed him our ID but said we only wanted food. He went back in to speak to the other waitress and came back out to tell us we can't order drinks which was fine as we just wanted food and said so. He then told us we can't order food either despite initially saying we just couldn't order drinks. Complete joke really. Another Wetherspoons in the area accepted both of our IDs and allowed us to eat so clearly just these two certain individuals having an issue. There were also people in there being served drink who were very clearly much younger than us. Also after reading other reviews we weren't the only ones who received this treatment. Maybe some training for staff is needed here.

Staff took quite some time clearing used tables of glasses/plates. Not enough staff behind bar so service took quite some time. When the food arrived it was excellent & hot. I'd give it another go in the future!!!!

Absolutely buzzing with the anticipation of those in for a pre-show dinner, intermingled nicely with youngsters on dates, mates meeting up and two old cronies (that's us). Only Spoons has a Venn diagram of society who get along nicely by meeting in the middle. The building is an old picture house, stylishly converted into a spectacular dining room. Wonderful fun...except my wife's steak, which was almost enough to turn her vegetarian. It may have been the chef's shoe, dropped by mistake in their haste to feed the huge crowd.

Great location. An old cinema converted into a restaurant. Great atmosphere. We actually love the Wetherspoon concept. Solid meal as a set menu with a drink at a good price. Order and pay at the table using the app and it will then be delivered to you. Everything worked great again, but this time the quality of the food was subpar. We had the steak menu. Everything was cold, the fries were soggy and the meat was just tough and gristle. I haven't eaten so badly in a long time. If it's because of the increased prices, Wetherspoon should raise their prices by a few pounds before I give out such rubbish. Really a shame

I’ve always enjoyed going to this venue… Being an old cinema the building is very atmospheric, it’s usually buzzing and you know what to expect with a Wetherspoons… fairly mediocre food but cheap drinks, all important for students. I was with my son and his student friends on this occasion 10 Oct24. But I have to say it was dreadful… It was very busy as there was a show on next door at the Usher Hall but as people drifted away to attend the show, the service got worse ironically. Tables not cleaned, piled high with dirty crockery, having to wait ages for our drinks (my son ordered via the app) but the icing on the cake was the most miserable duty manager. I asked her politely to clear our table as it was one of only a handful of free places to sit and I was totally ignored. Repeated instances of poor customer service led me to ask her if it was her day off when you held the customer service course! Obviously she didn't like that....she refused to give her name and treated me like an inconvenience! My companions were treated with utter contempt, like naughty children, as ID (which, by the way, was all in order) was demanded of them. She was sullen, rude and quite frankly, in the wrong job!!!! Bearing in mind the number of young people who must be looking for jobs in Edinburgh, you need to get rid as she’s jeopardising your reputation. No matter what our ages we are all your customers and should be treated as such

A Wetherspoons inside a picture house, standard Wetherspoon offering so it's not going to win any awards but sitting in an old picture house was definitely a plus! I've never been so outraged in all my life. We came for our regular breakfast and was so disappointed to notice that there was no scrambled eggs on toast that I usually have. After speaking to staff we were told it's because the festival's on and it takes too much time to prep. Honestly how hard is it to crack two eggs and whisk them up. It takes just as long to fry ones and these were still on the menu. Another aggravating point is the prices have shot up compared to before the festival. The tradition breakfast was up by £3. Wetherspoons what a rip off for Edinburgh residents who frequent your establishment throughout the year. Shame on you.

As from today, this was my last time in here. We come to Edinburgh every year for the last 5yrs. We always tell people back home about calling in to this lovely old picture house to buy food and have a couple of drinks. To day we were told at the bar that because our almost 18 Yr old was the only one eating we would only be allowed one drink. That's all we were staying for anyway as our son was eating and then we were on our way. The bar man was ignorant and offensive. We were never told this rule before and we have always sat for a couple of drinks, 3 at most. Can't understand as the same people sit in this place every year we are here, they seem to drink one after another but no rules for them. I thought this is a bar? Our money wasn't good enough or maybe its because we aren't from Edinburgh. We asked the bar manager about this rule and he wasn't very pleasant either even though he's served us himself before more than one dink and never told us this rule. No wonder it was empty today, usually its busy. Won't be back!

Good place to eat and cheap. It is a cinema restored as a restaurant. It has different levels in the style of theater boxes, all of which are set up for eating. You can pass it by because on the facade it doesn't look like a restaurant. But it is very worth it. They have an app with which you place your order, including payment, indicating your table number and the waiters bring you the food, so the service is good and fast. The food is very good for the prices they have and the beauty of the place. Lunch (good) for 4 people cost us 41 pounds. The menu is varied. I recommend it.

Really neat location! This Wetherspoon’s was located in an old movie theatre (picture house.) Very 20s vibes and likely less busy than the Wetherspoons located by the Wavery station. Food was cheap and filling- did the trick! We had breakfast. Service is self-serve table style- AKA you download an app, place your order and pay, then staff will bring your meal to you. Def recommend trying at least once if you are in Scotland, as it appears to be quite a popular franchise - with each located in some sort of historical building.
