Good service and middle of road menue would go again

V was very helpful and made sure we enjoyed our food.

Breakfast buffet was better than expected - haggis (I think) was particularly tasty. Waitress "V" was very nice and helpful.

Lorna is always friendly and very helpful, our orders are always correct, we come weekly and Lorna always makes it a great experience.

Had to leave a review. I'm actually staying next door but I got the breakfast buffet here this morning and had to come back tonight for a slice of cake. This place is great and a super good value. Breakfast buffet and coffee was under 10 pound and the cakes are massive! Definitely recommend this.

Very nice restaurant, good food with affordable price. The service was also great and quick. Megan was very helpful, attentive and friendly. She was very informative about Scottish food and made my first meal in Scotland became a great experience! I tried the carvery, the meat was delicious and the vegetables were superb. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

I support somebody who is mad about this place and always gets an all day breakfast on almost everyday of the week. At this point he is considered a regular. He highly rates the food and service, and the waitress Megan is particularly attentive and friendly! I myself have sometime had the roast and it's a good quality and the way you can help yourself to more trimmings makes it great value! All in all great packaging expirence!

Went in for a work lunch for 10 people. Ordered what was advertised as luxury macaroni cheese in creamy cheese sauce with crispy onions and what I got was a very bland and dry dish of macaroni with no crispy onions and couple of slices of garlic bread. Macaroni looked like a frozen meal that was microwaved for 30 seconds. If your looking for good quality meals this is not the place.

Popped in for the breakfast buffet and was met by Lorna who I must say, was very friendly and attentive to our needs. She got us seated and although she was 1 of only 2 members of staff on duty that I saw on duty at the time, she made the effort to check that everything was to our satisfaction throughout our visit. Many thanks Lorna and you're a credit to the business. Definitely be returning.

Average pub grub but met expectations. Was cheap and cheerful so wasn’t expecting anything more or less than we received.

This is a great value venue. The only down side today was a few of the vegetables were a little dry but I still thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I’ll definitely be back.

Treat for our grandchildren at the end of their Easter Holiday. V and her colleagues made us very welcome and ensured the kids had a great time. Lots of outdoor seating if you bring the dog, just need a dry day for that :-)

Been to Westgate many times and have had times when it’s been awful, with no pescatarian option of fish one day and another time no vegetarian burger, and why do they think all vegetarian/vegans like pies, anyway was in here on Saturday 6th April 2024 and had fish and chips and boy it was delicious, so fresh taste and chips and peas were fab, I really enjoyed my lunch and I hope it continues as myself and friends come here a lot and there is times the whole family come with kids too, keep up good work whatever you were doing on Saturday, cos it deserved 5 🌟. Thank you and be back soon

We are staying in Edinburgh for a few nights so popped in here as our hotel in next door. I'm glad we did. The food was lovely and good value for money. The lady called sinead Who served us was excellent she went out of her way to accommodate us making changes to a few dishes for allergies and my son who has ASD. If we lived closer this would be our regular place to eat. Thank you

My friend and I meet for lunch at the Westgate Farm in Edinburgh and really want to point out one of your staff members.... Her name is Lorna and she is such an asset to the company... We meet there every 4/5 weeks and every time we go, Lorna always has a big smile and cheery greeting...Even when the establishment is very busy, she always takes time to get you seated and always with a wee friendly chat... We were there again yesterday and not only did she make us feel very welcome she also answered our questions on the history of the building... Huge thanks to you Lorna, you are a very special person, keep up the excellent work, it is very much appreciated...Evelyn and Avril

My friend and I visit here for lunch regularly and visited yesterday. Lorna was very attentive and helpful, nothing seemed too much trouble. We usually have the carvery and yesterday didn't disappoint the food was well cooked although not maybe as hot as I would like it, but that's just personal choice. We like that you can spend as much or little time there as you like and not feel rushed.

Truly terrible quality food and zero service. Food was inedible. Fries were obviously reheated and old. Food overcooked and poor quality. Based on our plates everything is most likely precooked frozen foods that is reheated. Not worth going to - much better quality food is available elsewhere. We walked out leaving our plates 3/4 full.

Where can I start the food was fantastic, fast service, large choice of food, Yorkshire puddings what are the best ever. The help and advice from Sinead, was well up and above, polite, cheerful, very helpful. Will be back. Thank you.

I’ve been here 9/10 times in the past 2 years and I always come back to see if it’s better, out of those times only 1 has been enjoyable. The last time I was here a month or so ago, I returned the turkey to the carver as it was pink and mushy / raw. He apologised (older carver) and said yeah it was cooked (it was not.) it was slithery and pink, not white and cooked.. and he huffed and gave me a slice from the other side of the turkey that was granted not mushy.. but still a pink so I left it on my plate. I was here on Friday with my husband and 2 kids. We always have to wait forever for drinks when ordering on the app. This is a common issue whether you order on the app or not the drinks take forever. We’ll be almost finished the meal and no drinks. So 40 mins in I had to ask a waitress quickly passing by to check where the drinks were and she came back and said the bar didn’t have my order, what did I order for drinks? My order I did on the app they didn’t have it ?? I went in my app and told her our drinks off the order… she came back with the drinks and an extra drink by mistake and the cordial and lemonade was bitter and off. I had to queue and return this to the bar to be replaced, I said to the bar girl who then took a glass and tasted the lemonade draught to check this and agreed it was like just soda water and disgusting. I then had to stand and wait for the drink to be replaced in the pump before my drink was remade. The carvery food was awful. The parsnips were black and hard, sat too long or not they were inedible. There was no broccoli left it was empty and the pot behind it was more stuffing. The roast potatoes were finished and not replaced with a pot at the back I burnt my hand trying to get the lid off to get some. The gravies were mixed up under the sign so my kids had onion gravy by accident as the onion gravy was under the ‘gravy’ sign full of onions, the real gravy was under the onion gravy sign. My daughter showed the carver our app order (2 adult and 2 kids carveries) .. he did my 2 kids then me.. he then stopped my husband (who is black) and asked for his ticket for food. I said we’ve just shown you the app order and showed him again as the carver was skeptical. It made my husband very uncomfortable as my 2 kids and me were served fine on the same ticket but he was stopped and asked for his ticket for carvery (after saying what meat he wants) infront of the queue of people behind us, so I had to come over from the veg and show the app order again, and the carver was quite dismissive then served my husband. It may have been a genuine mistake but it felt very passive aggressive after already been shown the app order of 2 adult and 2 kids carvery to then cut my husband off when we’re all at the veg part for where is his ticket. He felt embarrassed by this as it was already shown and he didn’t have it, so held up the queue for others while I came over and showed it again. The older gentleman carver is very off, he is the same one who served me pink turkey the other month and told me it was cooked like I was stupid. It was pink and slimy and raw. It was the same man on Friday who embarrassed my husband after already being shown our order for 2 adult and 2 kids carveries (which he repeated back to us after seeing the order) and serving me and my 2 kids, then stopping my husband for his ticket when we were already along and the veg. This experience was not enjoyable. Out of all of our visits all £40+ only 1 has been ok. I’ve gave you lots of chances to improve and it gets worse every time I come, my husband felt so bad he does not want to come back. You pay to have a nice meal in a cost of living crisis and you are treated badly and the food is disastrous but as you’ve paid before the having the experience you cannot complain. Nobody asks was everything ok etc because they probably know it isn’t so don’t even approach you . Will not be back. Disappointing as I’ve gave the benefit of the doubt so many times and it just gets worse! And it’s not cheap either. Spend your money elsewhere.

Great atmosphere and greater food

Extremely poor, stake had more fat and grizzle, than meat, not rested long enough and bleed out all over the plate, daughter had beef lasagna which was cold. When I complained about it to the manager she offered a free desert, which my daughter took up, only to find a sharp bit of plastic about half a inch long in it. We walked out never to return. over priced, badly cooked and badly under staffed. I would have given it no star rating if that was possible.

Had a few mixed experiences here in the past but today the real difference was Ilja. He was very attentive but not pestering and his service really made a difference. The food was hot and arrived promptly, service throughout was efficient. Had a carvery and a burger in the party and both enjoyed. We will be back

Am a reasonably frequent visitor. Always get a warm welcome. Sinead particularly welcoming today. Carvery best value ever, and generally a great menu choice. Comfortable atmosphere if visiting on your own.

Server Rachel was very helpful food came out quickly and it's always nice when the server comes back to make sure we are all ok and if we need anything to just to ask 😊

Came here with 4 friends for a reunion lunch, decided not to order at the table using the app it was too awkward trying to order some drinks with and with out ice and in anycase I prefer table service or to order with a staff member. We ordered 4 starters and 4 main meals, after quite a while the main course arrived, …before the starters… ? they were taken away and a few minutes later the starters duly arrived and to be fair were served hot fresh and enjoyable.20 minutes later the obviously shy and inexperienced server cleared the table, she was struggling to cope and couldn’t handle 4 plates, with the used cutlery falling on the floor and adjacent customer 3 times. The main meals were eventually served again with no fresh cutlery… so we had to take from an empty table. No one came back to check the food was ok, because it wasn’t, the original meals had either been reheated or kept hot so the 2 steak and ale pies were hard to cut let alone eat, with 50% left as inedible. Again when the the table cleared no one asked if the food was ok as there was a lot of waste. Coffees were ordered and we waited quite lengthy time for the beans to be transported from Brazil and ground up. Coffees were served and we needed to asked for sugar as none was provided, then we had to ask for teaspoons … all in all a disappointing experience and I doubt we will return to this tired and dismal place anytime again soon. The tables were all chipped and the decor dull and tired. Pretty poor show Greeneking. Staff need proper training on service levels and more of them to cope with peak times. Yes we could have complained to the girl server but there was no point making her feel worse than she probably did already, clearly not trained sufficiently.

My favorite carvery in Edinburgh. Every time we come visit Edinburgh by car we park here and have food and coffee before heading central. We love everything people, service and food. We even won £50 on our first visit a tone of their slot machines or whatever you call them. Thanks guys <3

Can’t comment on menu as always have the carvery but it’s excellent always high quality. Keith is an excellent cook and his attitude towards customers is awesome. The other staff are great too never a bad experience. I don’t really eat or like carrots but they are amazing here!

Just had tea with my partner here, it was a weird experience, whilst the waitress was explaining how the restaurant worked they started touching all the cutlery, once they said if we need anything simply ask, I took the opportunity to ask for more cutlery, this was promptly replaced. We then had sauces bought to our table, but before the food arrived, the same waitress came to our table and took them away without reason. Bonkers. We then asked her colleague to bring us some more when the food came out. The food was very nice in the end, and we would recommend visiting.

Great place for a Carvery and a big Slice of Cake. We sat in the bar area which was a little bit quieter than the main restaurant.

Very easy to order on the app. Table was ready early. Pleasant greeting on arrival. Service was average. Carvery was lovely but the server took around 10 minutes to serve at the carvery, even after 2 members of staff went to find him. Cakes looked lovely.
