Fantastic views, delicious food, and strong scotch!

We stumbled across this lovely restaurant having walked from the centre of Edinburgh with 2 tired, hungry and bored pre-teens and I'm so glad we did as it was absolutely the find of our trip! Delicious food, fantastic views and great service. The mussels special was spot on and the Macaroni Cheese was huge and delicious. If you're in Edinburgh you should go here!

Great location, pleasant music and wonderful food. Fish and chips were really tasty, but the mussels came first! Absolute recommendation. Definitely coming back.

A lovely Bar-restaurant by the coast with great views of the sea and the coast line! Friendly and kind staff. Great for food and drinks.

Rating IMO: 4.5 Amazing view over ocean (5) Friendly but relatively slow (perhaps bcuz of kitchen) service Delicious soup and apple&berry crumble Reserve in advance.

I found it by chance while walking, I stopped for a takeaway cappuccino. It was so sunny so I opted to rest outside and the view is just as beautiful as inside. However, the tables with a sea view were already booked.

The service was great. Not enough decoration for a maritime restaurant. The fish and chips were okay but too expensive. The grilled vegetables felt like they were cooked. So the food is okay. There is another restaurant in the immediate vicinity where you can linger. In the summer when you can sit outside it's definitely quite interesting. A 4+

Cute little waterside bar. Very nicely done interior. Stopped by for some drinks one evening which was no hassle and ordered a few bar snacks. Had the Haloumi fries and the haggis bites, both of which were delicious. Definitely would come back for proper food.

Good apple crumble and nice coffee. Only problem: strong smell of fried fish and an oily touch in the air. Especially for people who don't like dead animals not the best. Beautiful view - you can watch the gulls fly :)

Went for family lunch. Good service. One of our party did have to give feedback on the steak which the restaurant chose not to charge for. 3-5 people ended up with food poisoning which we thought might have been from the mussels which 3 people ate but 2 other family members had fish and chips and were sick when they got home. Sent an email to advise Old Chain Pier of this as was also concerned for other diners. Have not even had an acknowledgement that my email had been read, no apology, nothing. I'm very disappointed as use to go to this bar/restaurant a lot a few years ago when I lived in the area and I really didn't want to write a bad review but as I've had no response I've had to write this review

We stopped by for lunch while exploring Newhaven as part of our weekend getaway to Edinburgh and came across this gem of a pub restaurant. The food was great and the service was friendly, fast and polite. Great selection of vegan options which was a pleasant surprise. Loved the views and the atmosphere. We will definitely be back when we are next in the area. Thank you.

11/10 - why have we not been sooner?! My partner and I live fairly near by and have been meaning to go for quite a while. We arrived late afternoon without a booking. Our hostess/waitress found us a table straight away (even though it was quite busy), then by the time we'd browsed the menu, they managed to move us to a window seat- the view of the firth of forth is absolutely stunning. The food was really good - we had just gone for burgers, but it felt like there was love in the dish. Small touches like the brioche buns being slightly charred, the coleslaw and chips were both nicely crunchy. Exceeded expectations. They had a specials board for food and one for drinks too. So after being too full for dessert, we had one of their special g&ts. This was fun - we had already decided to try one before our food arrived. There was a good selection of beer and an interesting selection of red wine (not just the standard three that most pubs sell). After eating we sat for at least 15/20mins with our drinks before our waitress, very politely informed us there was another group booked on our table soon, but had alternative tables available for us to continue if we wished. We in no way ever felt rushed, we were happy to take another table and had one more drink before heading home. The view from that table was also really good, and we had, up until that point, had a four person table for just the two of us. A place like this could easily coast off it's location, but we found this not to be the case at all. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was excellent and the serive felt like it went that mile. We'll see you soon, maybe with our dogs too next time 😊

A brilliant local haunt with sunset views to die for. The pints are lovely, service even lovelier and the food is great comfort on a cold evening or summer late supper.

Too formal, you have to reserve a table just for a quick drink in the bar area. That's fair enough for the restaurant but as a local I can't be bothered with their rules.

Very bad experience! Servers are so impatient with us interrupting me when I try to talk. And we’ve been told have one hour at the moment we wanna order one more and there’s only 15mins left. However, they get us the seafood when we finish and ready to go. Chaos! Plus, the food tastes like no better than supermarket’s.

A nice wee pub n grub place, with friendly service and amazing views over the Forth. Food is tasty pub grub, lots of seating inside and out, and dog friendly too.

Had a really lovely Sunday lunch here. Had the Cullen skink to start and roast for the main course. Both delicious and highly recommend. Partner had the mussels to start which were huge! Lovely chilled vibe for a hungover feed. Staff were really lovely too, great service.

A beautiful posh-low key place to enjoy the seascape and have a pint. I am pregnant now but it's okay my beer had folic acid in it. That coronated my visit as well as a heart to heart with my beautiful husband ❤️💕👌🍻

I’ve been here 3 years ago, I loved it. Then I returned back to my husband and our wee dog, as they are truly dog friendly, got a table with the stunning sea view, and a lovely waiter served us, very professional and kind manner, the food was absolutely delicious, served in time, even they were very busy, and as they have vegan/vegetarian options, what we loved about it the most, we both enjoy our meals (vegan fish and chips, vegan burger, and soup of the day -on that day butternut squash and carrot😋) Our dog was very calm and well behaved as the atmosphere vibe was the same too. So definitely recommend this wee restaurant beside the sea with the generous view, to anyone who prefers friendly and welcoming hospitality, thank you for the team❤️🙏

Love the folk duo Fozzie and Al who play here every second Saturday 8-10. Open Mike so come along and enjoy the evening. Great food 😋 lovely friendly staff.

Breakfast great and food extremely good for some. One or two mix ups (Salmon instead of trout etc) Staff very friendly though one told us we would have to hurry as lunch service due which seemed unnecessary as we were pre booked for breakfast and waiting for them to take orders. Lovely place though.

Really lovely meal. I had fish and chips, one friend had a burger and the other beef from Christmas menu. Great table by the window, dark by the time we ate but views are spectacular over the sea. Really friendly and attentive waiting staff. Highly recommend!

It has been approximately 16 years since my last visit. Lovely to be back with lots memories. Last visit I was veggie now plant based. Food was surprisingly good. I had the banana blossom "Fish and Chips" which I have never tried before. Nothing like fish and really unnecessary to call it that. Ordered with no "tartar" sauce. Served with lemon wedge which I did not consume as unaware if unwaxed. Chips were amazing but you get more if you have a beefburger which my friend ordered. The other option celeriac "steak" which sounded nice. Friend enjoyed her burger. Too full for pudding which is always a good sign. Staff very welcoming, cosy, lovely view as ever.

Just the most wonderful experience from start to finish. I spoke to someone before we booked to see if they could accommodate allergies of one of our party. Not only did they take a note during the call, but also replied to my email in advance if us arriving to advise what courses they could have. Once we got there the staff were very friendly and attentive. The food and the atmosphere were wonderful.🥰 We will definitely come again.

Relaxed atmosphere as there was only a couple of tables in at the same time. We had the clam chowder for starter and it was full delicious ingredients, creamy and served with crunchy sourdough bread. My mum had the mushroom and tarragon soup on the specials which really warmed us up on a cold autumn day. We had the mussels as our main which was nice but definitely for the price it should have been a larger portion. The fish and chips was crispy and premium quality, could have done with mushy peas or garnish. Some of the chips we were served was like scraps from the bottom of the fryer so didn't have much substance to it. We also had the lemon posset on the specials which was a delight and smelt amazing. Service was friendly and attentive, I enquired about my allergies in advance and was made well aware of my options. Definitely enjoyed our lunch there and would love to visit again in the future.

We are local to Newhaven and come here quite a lot. The food is outstanding, particularly the and the hatch out front is great for a coffee.

Very disappointing lunch…two of us had the beef burger (without the bun) which was over cooked & tasteless. Others enjoyed the soup but the chicken burger with bacon wasn’t appealing as burger was dry & bacon too fatty. Such a shame as we were looking forward to our lunch as a friend had been before & enjoyed the food!

真的很难吃，我虽然对英国餐厅食物没报什么指望，但也是第一次见有人能把汉堡和薯条弄成这样的，汉堡的肉饼干巴巴没盐味，面包也不香还不如我在超市随便买的面包和薯条加热一下都比这个好吃的多，价格又很贵的无语，薯条也是炸过了很干连薯条都能弄成这样我真的是服了，每日例汤酸的奇奇怪怪，之前因为贵我怎么样也会把食物吃的差不多吃不完我也会打包，第一次就是吃两口就吃不下去而且还是在早餐没吃的午饭，真的是饿我也不想吃的程度。发个朋友圈说难吃一堆人附和难吃，这个景色还不错但是预约到的位置背光想换位置明明没人坐也不给换，根本拍不出片

A lovely spot with a spectacular view! We visited just for drinks but then the menu looked great so stayed for some food. We had children with us and they did say when we arrived for a drink children could be there but only until 8. We thought that was due to drinks only and children not being able to be effectively in a pub but seems it was the same even if we were eating which is strange. I understand it's not a soft play but if you're eating and spending I did feel there was little tolerance past the timeframe which is a shame.

I've been here a few times and keep on resolving to visit more often. This time I think that resolve will stick as everything seems to have improved. Look; the food isn't quick. There's a sign on the wall to warn you. If you don't book, you probably won't get a seat during the rush hours and if you do then they'll warn you again that you'll have to wait on your meal. I think it's worth the wait. Besides, the Old Chain Pier would be a venue worth a visit even if the food was average (it's better than that). This building hangs over the waters near the harbour. I love sitting there (book!) by the window in the sunshine or if the weather is so bad that the waters are choppy and dangerous looking. There's a good range of drinks, seats outside, dog friendly and bus stops just outside. It's no surprise that OCP is busy - just a surprise that it isn't even busier. Best of all; this is not a pub that seems to be much bother from young beer chuggers - I guess it's too far from the beaten track. Good news all round! [ Update: October 23 - Menu grown, pleasantly again. Staff fantastic. Still, I miss the nachos]

Hello, this place is very pleasant with a nice view, although the color of the sea leaves a lot to be desired 🤭 as for the food, I can certainly recommend it because I know the chefs and I know what they can do and what passion they put into their experience and the pleasure of surprising the customer. I ate it many times and each time it tasted just as good or even better. The staff takes a professional approach to work, but sometimes there is no smile, but I am able to understand and explain it based on the weather outside. Cullen skink is a popular dish here and having tasted it I can understand why. The Old Chain Fish and Chips was perfectly cooked as well.

I required any two big windows table 10 days in advance in comment place and no one told me that those two tables had both been booked.(maybe?) I went there and they said they can't meet all requirements and just gave me a normal window table. The service wasn't great either, rushing me to order and then seeming to completely forget I'd nodded him (just want ketchup). They were TOOOO BUSY... I suppose more waiters is needed. VERY disappointed

This restaurant is really cool ! The view on the ocean is amazing. The staff is really nice and will explain everything to you. The food was good, not a lot of vegetarian options tough.

We had a delicious meal here. Fresh seafood and great flavours. Very friendly service too. The selection of beers was better than you see in most Edinburgh pubs. And our table in the main part of the restaurant had spectacular views out across the Firth of Forth. There was some wild weather that day, so we admired the ever changing view from the comfort of this cosy pub 😊

Best view and ambience. We spent few winter evenings with mulled wine and sea food. It was so relaxing and peaceful. Highly recommend if you want to have a cosy sea view with lovely drinks!

Bellissima esperienza in questo locale in riva al mare. Mangiato cullen skink davvero buono, vino, fish&chips, cozze e per chiudere un whisky. Prezzo giusto per il posto.

Very good food, great drink and friendly people. They always try to accommodate walk-ins, but without a booking it is difficult to get one of the best tables, which are by the big window. Def book ahead if you can. As a side entertainment, on couple of occasions we saw some kind of 'influencers' that tend to order the whole menu for photos and then pose with that food until it gets cold LOL

Had an excellent meal here with my husband. We also had our three dogs with us. They were very dog friendly. The staff were lovely and friendly. The food was really delicious. I had the Shetland mussels as a main course. My husband had the hunters chicken burger and the squid starter. All lovely well cooked and tasty. And the view is fantastic. Well worth a visit.

Went there couple of times lately to enjoy on the outdoor seating area a drink after a walk along the shore. Be aware there's no table service outside and tables there are not often attended.

The service was pretty good, attended to immediately and had a seat by the window with the marvellous views across the Forth. 5☆.🤩 The food came pretty quickly, the fish was absolutely fantastic and a half decent portion of chips. 5☆.🤩 Some funny little pea shoots were on the plate, looked like stringy Lettuce, this instead of mushy peas which we would rather have had. Not very nice and hard to masticate. 1☆ They don't do mushy peas they say. ☹️ The place was quite noisy, lot of people speaking loud, inconsiderate 🤬 Worst thing of all the prices. Fish and chips £17.95 each, ☹️ our local restaurant does a bigger portion for £13.95 and mushy peas included 🤩. And the biggest insult, they levie a service charge of 10% on top, didn't even ask permission -5☆(minus) 🤬🤬🤬 Drinks very expensive, 1pint lager and lime £6.60 🤬 1 glass of horrible bitter rose wine £5.95 🤬 You can buy a whole bottle of decent rose wine for that, and 2ltr of cider for £2 in the supermarket 😐 They lost a prospective good customer because of that. We will go back to Newhaven Quay for future meals. Could have been an overall 5☆ review had the prices been lower, and no sneaky service charge. Would have given a tip but probably not as much as the service charge.

After order 4 fish chip 4 half Moretti lager shandy’s the shandy’s were like lemonade . We all said the same that there was far too much lemonade to be told well if we want more lager in it we would have to pay . The guy that went then went to the bar and googled the quantity of lager to be then came back and told us we all would have to pay . His customer service was appalling it wasn’t just one of us there was 4 we all said the same .. he then offered us crisps as a sorry when we were just getting our food .. thou this was not great customer service ..
