On entering the pub we were shown to a table in a cold room. We ordered three roasts as it was Sunday lunch . I asked if the beef was rare ,the waitress replied of course. On receiving our meals she commented that the beef wasn’t as rare as usual. The beef was overcooked and dry and the accompanying vegetables of broccoli and cauliflower were watery. A tiny pot of horseradish sauce arrived so we asked for another. For dessert I ordered Dorset apple cake and cream, and three coffees to follow. The coffees arrived before the dessert and the apple cake was very disappointing tasting more like old fashioned bread pudding. The experience was mediocre at best and expensive

Fantastic five star experience today at the Cross Keys for leisurely birthday lunchtime with friends. Excellent wine, food, service, ambience - it was all a joy. We asked if menu items could be presented as meze for us to share - all tastefully and beautifully done. Would heartily recommend.

Having a few days off of work we decided to treat ourselves to a nice breakfast. Potters did not disappoint, lovely warm welcome, from the ladies serving. We chose to sit upstairs as downstairs was bustling and busy, a good sign of a popular place. The upstairs room is lovely, it would make an ideal venue for a private function or family gathering. Our drinks and breakfast orders were taken swiftly, we chose the half English breakfast and the vegetarian Breakfast. Both were absolutely delicious, cooked extremely well and very generous size portions. The sautéed potatoes, mushrooms and eggs on the vegetarian breakfast were fabulous as was the black pudding from my partners half English which I pinched!

Wonderful Dorset pub with extended garden, warming decor and a refreshing 'outsider' vibe. Great music on the speakers; including reggae, Australian punk, rock, funk and more. Reasonable prices for drinks and regular, individual pop-up nights as well as community events.

We came with friends as we had all been gifted afternoon tea, and chose to visit this tearoom. We booked just over a week in advance. What a great choice! A great selection of beautifully fresh finger sandwiches, scones, cream and jam. and a selection of small cakes, which were so light. Absolutely scrumptious. We weren't rushed, so we could sit and enjoy our food. The folk working in the tearoom were very welcoming and we had a delightful afternoon. Thank you!

Have visited this Tea Room on a couple of occasions en route to Cornwall. The food is delicious & generous in size. Excellent value & quality. It’s always our first choice of a stop off when leaving Sussex for Cornwall & vice versa. Highly recommend

On a recent break to Dorset Lilac was the restaurant I was looking forward to the most. Unfortunately Thursday was the last day we were able to eat here that meant we missed out on experiencing the tasting menu which is only served on Friday and Saturday evenings. We still had an excellent meal here. Delicious pre app and a special mention for the pastry chef for a cracking dessert. Local and seasonal cooking is very much on show here. The team here is also stellar. Knowledgeable, efficient and full of good humour. Such an asset to such great staff working for you. Perhaps a slightly broader wine list may be a suggestion but other than that a must visit when in Lyme !

On Friday 17th January 2025 my wife and I visited YC Café for lunch. We have visited this café over 30 times in the past as we enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere and good food but what has happened? I had to go to the counter to order as the waiter seemed to busy to actually come to the table. I first of all ordered two coffees and we both had Eggs Benedict with varying add-ons. we waited 15minutes for the coffee and again I had to get up an ask the waiter where the coffees were and he told us he would bring them out to us. After another 10 minutes the coffees arrived and they were cold. We informed the lady who was washing up also the cook about the cold coffee and look warm Eggs Benedict and she smiled and did not say anything by way of an apology. This used to be vibrant eatery but the toilets were dirty and cobwebs hanging off the door and it was a very poor resemblance to the YC used to be. I know times are hard but this visit was a world away from being friendly and lacked any real reason why we should go back. Yes times are hard but this was worse than the food van across the road.
