The Cornish Bakery in West Dorset

What a lovely setting to enjoy a spot of lunch with excellent service. The kids enjoyed sausage rolls and chocolate twists. My husband savoured every last bit of his traditional pasty. As a vegetarian i was looking for my fave, the Sweet Potato and Feta pasty, that I used to enjoy years ago when visiting Bath, Street, Tintagel, Padstow, Mevagissey, Fowey etc. However I found a new little gem, the Cauliflower pasty, my gosh it was EPIC! The service was so friendly and the tall gentleman (we didn't catch him name) talked us through our choices, there was sooooo much choice. He was very patient whilst the kids took their time deciding on food and drinks. We had a lovely morning in Westbay and it was made even more special by the customer service and delicious food we received. The coffee....AMAZING. I love Union coffee anyway but that barrista was a magician! Top notch, will be returning!

I stopped here for a coffee the last two days.Not the best service my first day but today the boy who served me was brilliant (he didn’t have a badge to get his name,he was on shift on Easter morning )Very friendly and attentive.We stopped here yesterday evening for a pastry ,best sausage roll but not the best cornish pastry (it looked half baked)

An opportunity arose to flit to West Bay as the carers arrived to roll my older wife over. So did I see Nick Berry from Harbour Lights ….er no Did I see XY chromosome confused David Tennant from Broadchurch …er no . Did I see dream second wife Kate Winslett as Mary Annings ee no! But !! I saw a smiley face and a free morsel of cake as soon as I entered this coffee emporium. Always friendly,always welcoming and forever ensuring a clean toilette !! All these staff are like family and when God calls my wife I will pull these folks to my bosom and invite them to the wake which is planned for Groves Garden Centre and then a lash up at the Woodman. See you then. Free bar !

Pastry was amazing! We had the crème brûlée and the hazelnut croissant after a long walk around the beach. I was very surprised to find this gem

Absolutely vile coffee, but the cherry and almond croissant was nice.

Great service, very friendly workers. Great experience today (05.04.25) asked some questions about a new product, very patient with answers for me. All the pasties are great, and even though gherkins are not my thing, the pastrami reuben is highly recommended.

Awesome service, very friendly and patient when I was asking what was in the pastrami reuben. Absolutely delicious. A new favourite even though I detest gherkins! Pasties are tasty, just right temperature and brim full of sexy cornish pastyness!

Wow what a fabulous cafe. My husband had a sausage roll and I had a traditional pasty. We shared a sticky toffee pastry. OMG everything was delicious and I’m not exaggerating. We both drink decaf coffee which can be a bit hit and miss but it was really tasty. The staff were friendly and very efficient. We will definitely come back.

Had a really good hot cappuccino with good thick froth, made by June, who was super friendly.

Popped in to Cornish Bakery for a bite to eat and found that the staff are very cheerful and talkative, my partner and went for a pistachio couassiant which was scrumptious, they also do a really nice chicken masala pasty.

My husband & I popped in today for a quick coffee before meeting family for lunch. Being an outrageous boring coffee snobs, we weren't expecting a great deal, but WOW. The Flat White & Americano we ordered has to be the very best, top quality coffee We've ever been served, anywhere. Sadly we couldn't stay to eat but those pasties & cakes on show will entise us back another day. Thank you

Reliable excellent and imaginative bakery goods

Really disappointed today, came to west bay for a walk with our newborn baby. Very excited to get out the weather to enjoy a coffee and a pasty. 4.20 your staff had shut off half the seating with mop buckets and chairs so there was nowhere for us to sit with the baby out of the weather. Also I think it's terrible you will not accept cash payment, it is legal tender after all!

An impromptu drive to the coast brought us to West Bay for mid afternoon. It’s chilly January and this cafe was fairly busy more than other places. Michael greeted us with a smile and took our order at the counter. I had a cappuccino topped chocolate dusting, my husband had a pot of tea and we shared an Apple and Cinnamon Scone. Although small the cappuccino was absolutely perfect! My husband was impressed with the tea, brewed just as he likes it and two cups from the pot. The treat was the scone. A really moist tasty flat scone mixed through with pieces of apple, nuts and cinnamon. Truly a surprise and these should be a big seller for The Cornish Bakery! An alternative for the traditional Dorset Apple Cake, this scone is less calories and less sickly sweet. A clean cafe with good seating and tables, and a clean loo assessable for all abilities. Oh Michael also gave us the Loyalty Card so we will definitely be back! Great service so I highly recommend you pop in!

Gorgeous! Called in here for a snack after a long walk and had the cauliflower and onion bhaji pastie which was absolutely delicious. The sausage roll was great but the pastie was an utter triumph!

1st visit but will be back when in West Bay. Hubby had an Original Cornish Pasty & I had an Almond & Cherry Coissant. Delicious. Staff friendly. Only negative, the crockery could have been a bit nicer.

Thank you to the gentleman working at our shop, for being so caring and asking if I am ok, after a fall on ice. Your kindness has my most upmost respect. The sausage roll was the cherry ontop.

Excellent and tasty Cornish pasty and sausage rolls... Id drive there again just for lunch (80 miles away). All cooked on site too. Thanks guys for a really good food experience.

On a cold windy day we had a very welcome warm up with a cup of tea and a pastry .

Popped in for a coffee on this cold morning, and what amazing coffee it was, couldn't go in and not have a pastrie as well. Wonderful friendly staff as well.

Came here just over a year ago had amazing food and the hot chocolate was incredible came back today and so disappointing the hot chocolate just didn’t taste the same it was Disgusting it tasted sickly

Decorations is modern 8/10 nice. Price eat in is high. Price isn't cheape. Tourist spot. Cafe slightly bitter. Bekery quality is ok. Business is good location. We ate in with pet. Monitor each hr is 30 -50 people. Each person 10-20 gbp per hr roughly estimated 600 gbp , estimated a day 4-5000 gbp sale revenue. I hope shop donated bk to local community and hope they treat employees good too. Profit is very high. Good for the store.

My favorite pasty shop when visiting England!! The pasties are delicious, so fresh and the pastry is amazing!! I visited recently to buy pasties to bring back to the States and the lady who helped me was great in suggesting how to transport them, and they were still frozen when we arrived home after 24 hours of traveling!! Now I have delicious pasties in my freezer to enjoy and remember a truly wonderful place. Thank you so very much!! Highly recommend, I can see why they sell out so quickly!!

Ciders, milkshake & (fresh out of the oven) scones. Scones were great, milkshake nah, ciders satisfactory. This is a chain but the service felt personable. The atmosphere was OK - it didn't invite us to linger.

Popped in to grab a bite to eat for me and the family, wasn't too concerned with price as the food looked great. However, was turned off by the lack of payment options when told they don't accept cash. Didn't bother to go back for the rest of the week out of principle.

We always head to West Bay for the day when we're holidaying in the area, and we always save our Cornish Pasty treat for this place. Amazing selection and very friendly for dogs. Perfection!

It's a liberty that a place of this size has chosen to take no cash. It's companies like this that are pushing agendas that will leave this country worse off and further away from personal freedom. I will never now buy from this company and use my lack of custom to show my disapproval.

Got a great cup of tea but the stand out was the spiced chickpea pasty was awesome! Stopped in Bridport on a recommendation and so glad to have found this place.

Great Bakery, with a great choice of reasonably priced savoury tasty pasties and pies along side cakes and tarts, etc. There is seating inside, where pets are welcome. However this is a very popular cafe, where you well may have to queue. It can be so busy that the staff haven't the time to clear tables, or check the toilets, as these are very busy too.

near to the beach and harbour , Ideal for a quick pasty and coffee . Plenty of pasty sizes and types to choose from . Takeaway available to eat around the harbour

They don't take cash and although the food is great it is expensive. Phatpastyco just three doors up is a lot cheaper, and take cash.

If you can walk past without trying the delicious coffee and freshly baked (on site) pastries, you are doing better than me. Surely you cant miss this West Bay delight.

Definitely my favourite pasties around. The bacon, leek, and cheese is a particular favourite! Always warm & fresh.

A real find, baring in mind, there was nothing else apart from fish and chip huts open. This bakers served us some exquisite fayre and a flat white that was top draw. Dogs welcome which was a bonus, would thoroughly recommend.

Visit here every time we are in West Bay take away mostly but have on a few occasions sat had lunch really nice place staff are really welcoming

Very welcoming cafe. We had coffees which were very nice. We then bought pasties to take a way, Corniche and a cheese and onion. Although there were queues the staff member was very helpful and explained what was available. Lovely friendly service and the pasties were fab.

The food was so good we kept going back again and again

Stopped by for a coffee and got a comedy sized cappuccino (1/3 size)... for the price of a "normal" sized coffee everywhere else (£3.20). Felt a bit cheated to be honest, so will ignore them next time I'm down - just another company ripping off its customers.

Absolutely disgusting price for a tiny cup of takeaway tea 225ml of hot water 1 tea bag no milk and absolutely no customer care whatsoever £2.65 .Never again!

Not the welcome we usually get from tcb. Server wasn’t very helpful and pulled a face when my husband asked for his latte to be extra hot. We felt we were not wanted and the server didn’t want us there, a bit like we were a nuisance to them.

Brownies and chocolate torsane was good. Didn't eat in so can't speak on the inside of the restraunt itself.

Really helpful and friendly staff. We bought pasties- which were nice, not the best ever but nice filling of veg and beef, seasoned with plenty pepper. The cinnamon buns were flaky and not too sweet. However, the cheese scone was odd- not just too salty (which it was for me) but with a slight sweetness too, and then a mustardy hit on top. Not quite right (much less salt and no sweetness, please!). Overall the goods looked nicer than they were and I was glad I’d gone in at the end of the day when prices were reduced.

Visited on Friday and was busy with a nice atmosphere and lots of doggies . There was a lad behind the counter who was not doing anything but did not bother to come over and clear our table from previous guests nor inform us that we were in the wrong queue! Pastries and coffee were nice , didn’t find the staff members that served us overly welcoming . It only has one toilet to serve the whole place , including baby changing , the floor was very wet and the seat was up from the previous user and it was very stained , not particularly pleasant.

Quick stop to get some takeaway brunch pastries and lunch pasties. The Spiced Winter Bun & the Apple, Rhubarb, & custard turnover are beautiful. Traditional pasty and Cheese & Onion pasties were lovely. Oh and the coffee is great too!

Not a bad place. A little pricy but at least somewhere to sit down and get dry on a wet day. Cornish pudding was very good. Sure to visit again.

Straight away the food prices are ridiculous definitely not made on site.Decided to order an Americano and it was slightly bigger then a shot glass, was gone in 5 sips, left there with my pnts down by my ankles feeling un-easy.Typcial tourist trap place

I’ve never enjoyed a traditional Cornish pasty as much as this one! Hot in the middle, perfect salt, crisp on the outside though dough not dry at all, tender meat. Eaten on the harbour wall watching the waves and the wind! 👌

Nice looking place in WestBay. Had a medium sized traditional cornish pasty which was horrible, the pastry tasted like it was a week old (not that I've ever eaten week old pastry) and as for the filling....totally tasteless, no seasoning at all, good job I had a sachet of brown sauce to perk it up a bit. Also had a bottle of apple juice to drink. Sadly, I wouldn't rush back.

This lovely Cafe in West Bay never disappoints. A great place to visit all year round. Freshly baked Sausage Rolls and Pasties. Good choice of cakes all reasonably priced. Large eat in seating area, or perfect to take away. Recommend The Sausage Roll and Hot Chocolate Card payment only

One of the few places open on a wet and windy January afternoon. But served a lovely coffee and the pasties and sausage rolls were out of this world. Lots of cakes and pastries for the sweeter tooth as well.

Phenomenal little bakery with fresh produce every day and very good coffee too. £15 for 2 coffees and 3 baked things so pretty decent value too. The choc toursade is an absolute banger. Went every day during our stay. 🦬

Staying in Dorset during the week. But I can't not stop in West Bay as is one of my favourite places to come. Decided to have lunch here and was not disappointed. Great service, very friendly staff and great atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit if your passing through.

Went in Cornish bakery because a man came out ringing a bell and shouting all pasties reduced to £1.75 as it had gone 4:30pm, purchased one pastie but £4.50 came up on the till so told the staff member it should be £1.75 and he said I will cancel the £4.50 and re do it at £1.75, they only do card payment. When I got my bank statement they took £4.50 & £1.75 for the one reduced £1.75 pastie, I always try & avoid card only payment places but i didn't know they didn't take cash, these days it's not safe to use card payment. Cash is king

Pasties were reduced to £1.75 after 4:30 pm so I purchased one just after 4:30 pm but £4.50 came up on the till, I pointed this out and was told they will cancel it & put the pastie down at £1.75, they only take card payment, when I got my bank statement they took £4.50 & £1.75 so i paid twice for one reduced pastie, usually I avoid cashless places & this is why, won't be going to the Cornish bakery again. The place is over priced as it is without paying twice for the same item

Great place! Dog friendly cafe, not expensive and great service. We ordered hot drinks and pastries for breakfast but have previously had pasties and ‘veggie’ alternatives for lunch. A lovely place where we will definitely return.

Very rude lady serving. They take cash only - not surprised because the year before, within a few minutes of using his card, my husband received a fraud alert that it was being used in London to buy pizza and a Uber! Won't be going back.

Food was ok, however the staff leave a lot to be desired. Rude when ordering food and when asked what sugar free cold drinks there are for diabetics, we were met with ‘water’. Wont be back.

What a horrible place. Nasty rude woman ‘serving’ my husband with a shocking attitude and then refused cash - last time we used a card there it was used fraudulently in London within the hour. Not going near again
