We realise that this restaurant cannot provide a large menu especially during the autumn /winter but on our evening the fish choice was not on (replaced with a lazy prawn dish) and out of two desserts the crumble was also not available! Feel this is lazy as there is so much fish available locally and the excuses to not provide an apple crumble is in fact rather lazy from the kitchen. If you only want to offer pizzas and burgers, fine but don’t disappoint people with omissions.

Dartmouth has many restaurants, but on closer inspection, there is a lack of variety. Most Dartmouth menus feature steaks and burgers. So we chose Bayards Cove because there was something different on offer (vegetable lasagne and lamb kofte). Despite having a home here for 26 years, we'd never tried Bayards Cove - it always looked like a small cafe. Actually, the restaurant goes further back than you might think and has a nice atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable - and there is draught beer (much cheaper than paying restaurant prices for small cans). The wine is also reasonably priced. As another rather nice touch, there is no service charge added to the bill. Please take note of this and tip the serving staff (they do a very good job). A good evening - we will be back.

This is the best pub ever! We came on holiday to this area especially to have my husband’s 60th birthday celebrations at this pub. The staff, the front of house chap, waiting staff are just brilliant. Beer and wine excellent. Our food was outstanding. We shared a selection of starters, all great, fave the cuttlefish. The chips are just amazing! The steak is stunning as are the burgers. Mackerel curry is fab. Puddings are also great, best being the sundae. Honestly I can not rate this pub high enough - please go!

Fantastic lunch here. I had ana amzing salad with beautifully crafted greens and butter beans as well as homemade hummus and the best Mediterranean roasted vegetables in Devon. The dressing was amazing and I believe they sell this to customers to take home. A fantastic spot and reasonably priced. Pleasant staff, it’s one to try!

Staying locally, we booked in for dinner on our first night. Lovely welcome, nice and busy bar and we had a cosy table near the front. Almost every table was reserved or occupied on a fairly bleak October Wednesday, so definitely worth booking! Food was nice - well cooked steak which was properly medium as asked for and my wife had a great piece of cod. We weren’t hungry enough to try starters or desserts but when we’re next in the area, and we will be doing some more family history research soon, we shall go for round two!

Booked in advance. Table ready on time Waitress extremely friendly and polite. We were advised there was a massive table in but we were still a little disappointed when it took 1 hour and 5 mins for the mains to arrive The starter arrived after about 30 minutes The starter was amazing. Great portion and super crispy fish. My husband’s ribs were a good size, chips decent and a little pot of coleslaw Unfortunately my salmon (£24) came and the size of the salmon was wholly inadequate given the price and even more so as they were aware how long we had waited. I pointed it out ( they agreed ) and I was given a fantastic replacement 15 mins later but my husband had finished eating. Hardly the idea of sharing a meal together. I was offered a free drink but as I was on squash I saw little point. I had hoped I would be offered a goodwill discount but sadly this was not the case. I was not going to ask as I shouldn’t have to. So overall wonderful food let down by the chef and waiting staff letting it go out when it was clearly an inadequate portion. I have only dropped one star for the issue we incurred as the food quality, staff and ambience were great.

We were staying in Dartmouth and looking for a good, dog friendly place to eat and Brown's fit the bill perfectly. As it was a Monday evening the place was very quiet and we were offered a choice of two tables with plenty of space for our 2 Irish Setters. The very friendly waitress (sorry I didn't ask your name!) quickly took our orders for wine and food. Starters of roast chorizo and a field mushroom topped with goat's cheese were delicious and the mains of venison and wild boar ragu were every bit as good. Sadly, we had no room for desserts, but there looked to be a good choice. They don't have a car park but there is plenty of free on street parking on Victoria Road; I guess the place gets very busy in main seaon though so you may have to use one of the nearby pay car parks and walk along. Worth the walk though as it's certainly a place to recommend.

The new location of the Hairy Barista is my go to place in town for everything good….. There is nothing these guys can do wrong in my eyes…. They serve great coffee, chai ( a definite favourite of mine)amongst many other interesting things inc Kombucha and Kefir drinks… I love their food offerings wether it be a simple filled croissant to their always hearty soups or specials. I will continue to support them as often as I can afford. They do things with the most amount of integrity and genuine passion and that means a lot in my world. You only have to look at how busy they are day to day to know they have hit a sweet spot 🙏🙏
