I always visit the River Shack whenever I'm in the Devon area. Delicious food, friendly service & fabulous views. My wife always enjoys the yummy soups at lunch & I have enjoyed an excellent seafood spaghetti. Highly recommend, well worth a visit!

My wife and I had dinner there on Friday (7th Feb 2025) to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our son had been before on a number of occasions and encouraged us to book in. It was simply brilliant! There was a warm atmosphere (on a cold evening!), a great welcome, friendly staff and visitors, and the food was absolutely outstanding. We've had a good number of meals at pubs across the South Hams over the last 9 years or so, but this was by some way the best. We'll definitely be back!! Many thanks!

Outstanding local business. Food quality recently seems to have taken a major improvement and it was already good. They have new GF bread which makes all the difference too. A long standing community hub and caring staff. Not cheap but good value.

So I've been compelled to update my review of this quaint little pub. We have been coming here multiple times a year for the last 6 years. It is always the highlight of our trip and the food is the gold standard of great pub food. Our latest trip here was nothing short of that. With the french food magician (Dom) injured and out of action, the food was still to his high standard (so a huge congratulations to the kitchen staff). Even though they were understaffed they made us feel welcome and any problems were quickly resolved, with apologies and an amazing sense of humour. Thanks Adam for being a great barman! Of course we will be back in a few months for a next trip down here.

Fantastic lunch here. I had ana amzing salad with beautifully crafted greens and butter beans as well as homemade hummus and the best Mediterranean roasted vegetables in Devon. The dressing was amazing and I believe they sell this to customers to take home. A fantastic spot and reasonably priced. Pleasant staff, it’s one to try!

Really nice historic, family run pub in the quietest little village. Really good food every time (especially Toms chips!) Stayed the night and had such a good sleep, woke up to the birds and a sunrise too! Ring ahead if you're unsure of times or what's on the menu, everyone's super friendly. Would definitely come again and recommend to anyone!

Stumbled across this excellent deli on a wet January day in Dartmouth and had the best cream tea in a long time. Warm and fresh scones, delicious jam & clotted cream and nicely brewed fresh tea. The interior is very stylish & has a nice friendly and relaxed atmosphere with nice mellow music in the background. Great stuff.

We were staying in Dartmouth and looking for a good, dog friendly place to eat and Brown's fit the bill perfectly. As it was a Monday evening the place was very quiet and we were offered a choice of two tables with plenty of space for our 2 Irish Setters. The very friendly waitress (sorry I didn't ask your name!) quickly took our orders for wine and food. Starters of roast chorizo and a field mushroom topped with goat's cheese were delicious and the mains of venison and wild boar ragu were every bit as good. Sadly, we had no room for desserts, but there looked to be a good choice. They don't have a car park but there is plenty of free on street parking on Victoria Road; I guess the place gets very busy in main seaon though so you may have to use one of the nearby pay car parks and walk along. Worth the walk though as it's certainly a place to recommend.
