Absolutely incredible. Hands down one of the best places I've ever eaten. Me and my fiance shared a burger and a pizza and we both were flabbergasted at how good they were. The location is gorgeous, very quaint, with beautiful scenery and a cute garden. The staff and locals were all friendly and helpful. Service was quick but didn't feel rushed, had laid back and welcoming vibe. We 100% will return.

Visited the Tower Inn for dinner this evening and wanted to leave a review because of how much we enjoyed it! Everyone really enjoyed their meal with some saying that it was one of the best meals they have ever had. Everything was seasoned to perfection and cooked perfectly. I had the vegetarian option (Oven Cooked Beetroot) and was worried it would be bland but it was exceptional! Highly highly recommend. We visited the Queens Arms (the other pub in the village) last night and it is not a patch on this place. The atmosphere was also really lovely (candles & open fire) as well as the staff.

Wonderful food and lovely wine in the best atmospheric location next to a 13th century tower in Slapton. From the moment we arrived, we received the best welcome from Adam, who recommended some great dishes. I never normally eat pizza, but the four cheese pizza was indulgent, delicious and so satisfying. My partner loved his tower burger and our calamari starter was perfect. Eve recommended the carignan and she wasn’t wrong. We left with big smiles and can’t wait to return. Bravo The Tower Inn for a fabulous last night in Devon, you served us a great evening. Huge Thank You. LA. & Martin

We have visited The Tower on many occasions over the last 10-15 years and always been pleased with the cheffie food we got from a relatively local unassuming pub (though it is in a great location). Last Saturday we visited and chose battered fish and chips with homemade tartare sauce. We were very disappointed when it arrived to find that the chips were no longer hand cut home made but a processed alternative. Also the batter on the fish was not as good as previously remembered and it was accompanied by a tiny portion of garden peas. Sad to find that a food venue that once excelled has now become mediocre although have to say that the ambience and great service remains the same.

Once for drinks and the other times for Sunday lunch and an evening meal.We were welcomed warmly each and every time, the staff were all knowledgeable about the food and drink and service was really good especially as they have a young team! They are being trained extremely well. All the food we ate was delicious, the Sunday roast was fantastic.. And filling! The fresh fish... Mussels, scallops, bass were delicious and the steak was cooked exactly as requested. If we are coming to Slapton again we will definitely return.

I must eco the previous reviews and one in particular word for word almost. If your car is big then forget getting in to their car park.we gained 3 dents trying.yeah you can get an estate car in, but The owners Subaru car with its half missing bumperS should give you a good idea of how your car will look on the other side.We were greeted by a young family in a non-plus manner.it was arrogant,fake-smiles all round. Our room was ok but my goodness the noise. It was almost like they were having a roasting tray throwing competition under us.There was also very loud'hipster'(we are in our early 40's) music blaring and it was shouting only to order, plus staff singing all night. The bed.....: I threatened to sleep in the car it was that bad and bearing in mind we'd had to park over half a mile away up a dark hill says alot.Food at breakfast was over kill and seemed like a lame(and wasteful) attempt to 'polish a turd' and claw back some brownie points. All served up by an egocentric host.

I’ve been visiting the area for.... 40 something years; first as a child and now with my own family. I’m almost reluctant to recommend it because it’s ‘undiscoveredness’ is part of its attraction. Slapton Lea, Torcross and the surrounding area are magical, and completely unspoilt. The Tower Inn is a gorgeously chilled Inn, compete with beams, low ceilings and own actual Tower. The food is of outstanding quality, especially the sea food, as you would expect, but also the impressive breakfast; yoghurt, fruit, pastries, full English - all cooked to individual taste. The surrounding towns of Dartmouth and Kingsbridge make for lovely days out, with a quick, small boat trip to Dartmouth castle and the beach at Blackpool (not that one) being highlights. This was our 3rd time of staying and we hope to come again. Highly recommended.

15 years since my last visit, put off by difficult car park entry (very tight) and limited parking. However one of my favourite pubs, set in a stunning location with a real sense of history. I realise now that it was foolish to let the parking problem prevent me from visiting. The young staff were extremely pleasant, welcoming and efficient. The pub itself has retained its genuine ancient atmosphere but clean and well set out. The menu comprehensive and sensibly priced. It being a Sunday, though sorely tempted by other interesting choices we opted for the traditional Sunday roast, Devon roast beef in our case; it was excellent, as were the desserts we ordered. How did we overcome the parking dilemma; we simply walked. Parking at the monument along the Torcross strand it is a beautiful walk along the side of Slapton Ley up to Slapton village, about 30 minutes only and quicker when returning on the path alongside the road. Highly recommended not least to build up ones appetite for the excellent meal, beer whatever that awaits you.

We popped in for a drink when out walking on our weekend break. This is my favourite pub in the South Hams, I'd move in if I could! However, recently I brought a visitor for lunch, we're both vegetarian. Apart from a few sides, the only veggie option was Sicilian pasta with parmesan, lemon and chilli. I don't like chilli so obligingly the chef left it out. The resulting dish was rather tasteless although a generous portion. At over £12, that's way too much for a plateful of tagliatelle with a slight flavour of lemon and parmesan, compared to the cost of providing meat or fish. Please don't rip off vegetarians!

I love the setting of this oub in a picturesque village. Must come back for food one day, I have only called in for drinks whilst out walking. As a keen gardener, my only comment would be to improve the garden area. I love going to pubs with a garden, and with the tower in the background, this could be an idyllic outside space. Surely worth investing in this, especially as you do provide B & B.

On a pleasant summer day there is nothing better than leaving the car down by the sea, walking around the lake and nature reserve, up the hill to Slapton village and the Tower Inn. Best not to try to drive there as the car park is tiny and the turn in to it requires your car to shrink and bend.

We’ve been coming to the Tower for years and it never fails to be a great experience, whether it be huddling around the roaring log fire in winter or sunning ourselves in the garden in summer. The food is excellent, the staff helpful and friendly, and some fine ales to boot. We’ve also stayed on a number of occasions – the bedrooms are small but clean and cosy and the breakfast is first rate. We recently had a birthday celebration there with a group of 16 for dinner in the ‘side’ bar. Thea and the team did us proud - efficient but low key - and the food was even better than I remembered, especially the sea food. Top tip - Slapton is a picturesque village with very narrow streets so it’s best to park outside the village and take the short walk to the Tower. Highly recommended!

I don't often write reviews & those I do are mainly grumpy but I'll tell you what this place deserves the best review it can get especially reading the one complaining about small rations & going hungry, clearly they were somewhere else!! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we had a ball, a total ball. From articulate service (now there's a rarity) to giant (yes giant!) helpings of excellent (I had the bouillabaisse!) food to young (I'm old!) convivial hosts we had nothing to complain about (nothing!). The best thing was everyone in there was human & treated you the same way, it was like being amongst your family, your friends, your mates! It's easy to knock and gripe but Dan (Beardy Boy!) & Thea deserve not just respect but a visit, they and their team work darn hard to give customers an evening to remember. Not only will I be back but I will tell, instruct, everyone I know, family, friends & business contacts to go there so whoever reads this - GO THERE!! It's worth it.

The prices at this place suggest gourmet dishes which is certainly what is being aimed for. But the portion sizes are just all over the place - child's portion of sausage and mash was enormous but the lamb hotpot was clearly designed for someone who'd already eaten and just fancied a nibble. My husband was left very hungry - and the crusty bread that was meant to come with it never materialised. When I queried the size of the dish, i was told it was all about the taste. Hmmm, I thought the point of going out to eat dinner was to feel you've eaten!

Four of us ate lunch on a super sunny day. The pub is cosy and quirky with a back garden (a little rough) and a front seating area overlooking the car park and ancient tower. The food was really very good and such a relief that it was all home made, unlike most places these days. The bouillabaisse was excellent as was the sea bass and lentil stew. The duck was just above average, but the leek soup was lovely as were all the desserts. The service was good, but not very attentive which was fine as it was just Tuesday. In all my years of reviewing restaurants I have never ever had reason to walk out before even being served! Reception here was completely cold and we were pointed at a table and told to wait. The menu here is dull and limited not to mention over priced for the content which is nothing special. No wine list was offered, in fact after 10 minutes of being ignored we didn't even have any cutlery. I just emphasize this was a quiet Wednesday evening. Another 5 minutes passed and still being ignored we walked out. I am always honest with my reviews and I encourage anyone visiting this village to eat down the road at the Queen's where service is instant, with a smil and the value for money is great.

This is a difficult review to write without sounding over the top but I don’t think I’ve ever been so comfortable or so well fed anywhere. The bedroom, whilst not the biggest had all the little extras and a bed that guaranteed a wonderful nights sleep. The icing on the cake was the food served in the Inn, I’d heard the bouillabaisse was excellent, well this turned out to be an understatement, don’t bother with Marseilles just come here. On the minus side don’t think you will get a thumping great people carrier up the tiny lane leading to the Inn, maybe that’s an advantage? All the staff were so kind and you really felt like a member of the family. You see my problem gushing all over this place. I will be back soon.

I booked in here for a 1 night stay. Getting to the hotel is difficult because of the narrow roads. The car park cannot be accessed by a normal family sized car. I had three attempts to squeeze my car around the tight bend into the car park before giving up and then had to park about half a mile down the road in a layby. When I contacted the hotel to complain about the parking I was told that I would have to leave my car in the car park and walk with my overnight bag and laptop bag the half a mile back to the hotel. When I refused and asked for a refund, the hotel representative became insulting and condescending. Not the service I expect and to advertise this hotel with any sort of parking is false advertising...disgraceful...!

The pub itself and the staff were warm and welcoming. The pub has lots of charm and character. We arrived on Good Friday evening in the pouring rain so our first impression was one of excitement as the scene was romantic and having already viewed the menu online we thought we were in for a perfect evening! The food was the let down. We both ordered scallops, £9.00 each and when it arrived we had 2 scallops which I feel is not value. We had the highly acclaimed bouillabaisse, again very disappointing, luke warm on arrival and after all the faffing about with the shelled fish the meal was cold. The sauce was watery and tasteless only livened up by the aioli. Again the price did not match up with what was on the plate, we are seafood lovers and still wondering where the seafood was.

We arrived half an hour before our table was booked intending to have a drink or two and ordered some drinks at the bar. The barman told us that actually our table was available and it was ours for the night. Great we thought!

Absolutely loved the winter menu, top draw, great collection of game dishes, seafood, and sausages to keep my little one under control. Highly recommend a visit before summer!

A gorgeous pub in a beautiful location. My husband had stayed here many years ago and he’s been saying for so long we need to go there for a drink and some food. So when we were last down visiting friends in the area we recently came for Sunday roast – and wow we were not disappointed! The quality of the food was just divine – possibly one of the nicest roasts we’ve ever had out! The meat and veg were beautifully cooked and we were served by a very friendly team of staff. Will definitely be going again even for just a drink or to sample the rest of their menu!

My family and I booked a meal for Saturday night. They advised in advance that they were having a Halloween party and everyone was encouraged to join the theme. It was great. The food was lovely and value for money. It is a brilliant location and the staff were very accommodating. It was so good we went again a few nights later.

My wife and I were in the Slapton Ley area on a Sunday, needed lunch and just happened on this pub tucked away next to the tower. It has a really traditional, welcoming look and feel and a good range of beers. It wasn't a problem that we hadn't booked a table. We ordered 2 chicken roast dinners (the beef had already sold out) and were rewarded by really tasty, massive, chicken and well cooked veg. Very, very, enjoyable. Not cheap at £15 each but, given the location and the quality was totally happy.Would recommend and would make a point of returning if in the area.

The menu totally undersells the quality of meals served. It matches or surpasses food I've had in quality restaurants in London and Surrey, with a better price tag.

Came to tower inn on Sunday (1/10/17) with family and friends and I have to say probably one of best roasts ever , we had chicken and all trimmings but it was half a chicken !!! Superb. Came back on 03/10/17 as a couple and whilst a fairly quiet evening the food was excellent. We had short rib beef and French bouillabaisse. Staff friendly and prices sensible and lovely atmosphere a dgoodwas delicious

I work locally just a few doors down the road in a local opticians and frequent this lovely little cafe fairly often for lunch. I usually get a sandwich from their deli counter and they keep me coming back. I have tried a number of different options and none of them have disappointed. In the winter I especially like their soup of the day which is very well priced. I love the Mediterranean counter and often purchase a pot of Dolmades. If you're in the area I would recommend going here for lunch, you will be glad you did

We realise that this restaurant cannot provide a large menu especially during the autumn /winter but on our evening the fish choice was not on (replaced with a lazy prawn dish) and out of two desserts the crumble was also not available! Feel this is lazy as there is so much fish available locally and the excuses to not provide an apple crumble is in fact rather lazy from the kitchen. If you only want to offer pizzas and burgers, fine but don’t disappoint people with omissions.

We stayed here for close location to the polar Express train ride, excellent location, excellent staff service, also had a meal which was great food and breakfast, would definitely recommend and would stay again. Thank you.

My family and I had a fantastic and reasonably priced meal at the Imperial on Saturday. The food was tasty, plentiful and well presented - and the young waitress who served us was smiley and friendly. Will definitely return.

Dropped in for a quick lunch. Expensive for what it is. For example a small piece of frittata and a very small salad for nine ounces odd. Went home and had toast to supplement. Disappointing as had heard good things.
