The new location of the Hairy Barista is my go to place in town for everything good….. There is nothing these guys can do wrong in my eyes…. They serve great coffee, chai ( a definite favourite of mine)amongst many other interesting things inc Kombucha and Kefir drinks… I love their food offerings wether it be a simple filled croissant to their always hearty soups or specials. I will continue to support them as often as I can afford. They do things with the most amount of integrity and genuine passion and that means a lot in my world. You only have to look at how busy they are day to day to know they have hit a sweet spot 🙏🙏

Lively place with a good feel and prompt service. They opened early for breakfast which was handy for us as our accommodation did not offer breakfast. I liked the concept of suspended swing seats by the front window, and so did some unsupervised children, which was a little worrying at times!

The Hairy B is a phenomena! I just love fabulous ideas and visionaries and Mr. Hairy B and team have created something special in Totnes and I count myself super lucky to live here. I have eaten in three times and I can honestly say each time it was utterly brilliant. Everything sang of people who care, people who want to deliver to a high standard but most importantly they want to make you feel welcomed and invited. I have to say I am utterly shocked by some of the bad reviews. Everyone has their own experience but mine was sensational and I will continue to pop in. What I will say is that I noticed that they are always super busy, I mean crammed because everyone wants to sample the goodies on offer. I have worked in hospitality and know it is a super juggling scenario so please, do me a favour and cut them some slack.

Looked lovely. No queue but had to almost beg to be served for a takeaway coffee. Waited 10 minutes and then politely asked if my order was in the queue. Barista was very rude and told me I hadn’t waited long and would have to wait at least as long again. Wouldn’t have left a review, but the dude’s attitude was just so bad… anyway, we had a great time in Totnes barring this little stain..

Being local, having visited the original coffee shop a couple of times with my little boy (walking past after school ) and having less than friendly service on both occasions. I wanted to give this new much bigger place a chance, especially as I understand everyone has off days. Especially when dealing with the public. Who honestly, can often be pretty tiresome to deal with every working day ( lots of experience of this ) It appeared to be a really long renovation, with no doubt, lots of hard work. So, daughter and I, a couple of weeks ago went out for lunch, just as a little late celebration of her finishing her gcses. The place was packed. ( expected on a Saturday afternoon) However, we managed to find a place on the end of a big table that we could share with others. It was before 1pm and they had already ran out of what I had chosen, so daughter and I both had the avocado toast with an extra serving of olives and some tahini plus an extra pitta. ( pitta was perfect btw) My daughter had been in for lunch the week before with her dad and said the food was nice. What she didn't tell me ( until we had ordered our food ) that she suddenly recognised one of the waiting staff, who, on the previous Saturday had cleared their plates from the table and then he started to eat her leftovers in full view of all of her and the other customers. This created quite a lot of giggles as she told me the story. Our laughing continued ( more of a laughing in disbelief kind of thing) as the cafe became more and more loud and the noise was dreadful. We had an hour and a half to eat before we had to leave. Said this to the staff member when we ordered to check that was ok. But as we were only having the avocado toast, no problem she said ( took me 3 times to repeat our order as she couldn't hear us ? Table service maybe an idea ?) 50 minutes passed. No sign of food. Asked someone how much longer and she just looked puzzled. Around another 15 minutes it arrives. We laughed again ( unfortunately ) at the serving of tahini and olives we we were given. Didn't think they made dishes that tiny. Plus the olives were bitter and dry. Can't remember exactly how much they cost, something like £3.50? All I know, it was pretty ridiculous. Think there were 5/6 olives in the bowl. I'm sure this place will be frequented by the pseudo middle class hippies aplenty. And good luck to them. But the problem with pandering to that kind of clientèle ? In my experience they'll move on to the next ' new thing' I honestly wanted to love this place. It is literally at the top of the road we live in. Oh well. At least we've not got a Costa coffee.

Been returning to the Hairy B for years, from the cosy hobbit hole days to the open space it is today. Proper good speciality coffee, the most delicious smoothies, and irresistible vegan/gf/health concious cakes. My personal favourite; the veggie frittata with tahini and kimchi sarnie. I always visit with my Dad, and it's become our favourite place to spend time while in Totnes. Pictured is their yum flat white with Calcifer foam art :-) Viva la Hairy B!!!

Travelled from Torquay to visit for lunch as I love the fact it’s plant based. However, we were disappointed. It’s a lovely place inside and out and the food was very nice but unfortunately the service was definitely not with good and the price was far too high. I’m not sure how they can justify £30 for 2 sandwiches and 2 smoothies! Most of the staff were not very attentive and didn’t seem that happy to be there. We waited about 30 minutes for the sandwiches. Then another 10/15 for the smoothies and our chips never even arrived! Apparently they forgot to put the fryer on but didn’t think to tell us. We got a refund (£5,50 for a portion of chips!!). Such a shame because this place could really be something special but they just don’t seem to have it right.

Cool setting and nice atmosphere. Ordered the falafel plate. Had to wait 20 minutes before it came out, waitress saying they were made fresh so that's why it took so long, this should have been told to me before hand. Plate was tasty enough with condiments but falafel itself was too crusty and hard on the outside causing abrasions to the roof of my mouth. Too cool for skool.

We’d been feeling a little lost after Tangerine Tree cafe closed, yearning for a place that embodied the quirky soul of Totnes while also serving decent coffee and baked goods. Thank the druids for the Hairy Barista! We know this dude takes his coffee seriously because we (coincidentally) recognized him from his days as a barista in Primrose Hill, where we saw him pouring during Coffee Week. The menu is everything a coffee lover could hope for, with turmeric lattes and Turkish coffees (both of which we’ve tried and loved), and a carefully edited display of local baked goods. Sure the space is small, but at least it’s dog-friendly, with good people-watching (and convo-earwigging), especially on Market days. This is our go-to spot in Totnes. Now if you will allow us to go back to sitting and sipping in mindful gratitude...

We were recommended by a friendly Totnesian. The cafe is small but the coffee is excellent ( we had flat whites) and they serve the most delicious and unusual pastries. We shared a lava cream croissant with a sprinkling of pistachios. I can’t remember a mor interesting place to have coffee. Go there!

Always friendly, small and cosy . The most beautiful and delicious cakes always for sale. Great selection of hot drinks. Delicious turmeric latte. Lovely atmosphere, our favourite pop in for a quick coffee and cake in Totnes.

Finally got to try this place and it didn’t disappoint. The cakes are excellent and for someone who needs GF, a delight to get such good quality. Also had the avocado on toast as a snack on another visit - delicious. It’s a wonderful use of a little nook in the high street and intimate with great music, great coffee and interesting books to read.

Fabulous coffee, lovely waitress but such an embarrassing experience as I took 2 tiny squares of chocolate and a broken morsel of another chocolate piece from a jar on the side away from the counter by a sign inviting customers to have with their coffees.

A tiny place but deservedly popular. Very knowledgeable owners who make and serve the drinks. Some cakes and pastries available on the counter to purchase. We had 'real' hot chocolate drinks - both very high quality and both made from high cocoa content chocolate - one was 50% and the other 83%.

Walked in during the 'Blizzard' conditions to a complete absence of a Hi ! Or a Smile ! Or even eye contact ! The young woman waitress clearly didn't want to be there ... her body language actually gave the impression that serving tables was ' below ' her !

From this tiny coffee shop arises an experience that goes way beyond coffee itself. It's one of those places that just stick to your heart and soul. It's hard to put into words, but the vibe lifts you up as soon as you get in. Great selection of coffee grains from all continents, suiting all tastes. But even better, the baristas are talented enough to prepare them flawlessly. Drop by, grab a cup of coffee, chat, relax, and then you'll get what I am writing here. Don't miss it while in Totnes. Trust me.

What a lovely place to spend an afternoon! We were fortunate to be able to sit outside on a lovely sunny day for lunch. The BBQ worked really well and you could easily spend the time ordering nibbles from the menu and drinking copious amounts of Rose

What a great, lovely little pub, nice and cozy, great service and when it came to the food, well, outstanding main courseoff the specials board, great portions, you will not be(shouldn't be) going home hungry. Highly recommend Thank you to all the staff for a lovely evening

We realise that this restaurant cannot provide a large menu especially during the autumn /winter but on our evening the fish choice was not on (replaced with a lazy prawn dish) and out of two desserts the crumble was also not available! Feel this is lazy as there is so much fish available locally and the excuses to not provide an apple crumble is in fact rather lazy from the kitchen. If you only want to offer pizzas and burgers, fine but don’t disappoint people with omissions.

Dropped in for a quick lunch. Expensive for what it is. For example a small piece of frittata and a very small salad for nine ounces odd. Went home and had toast to supplement. Disappointing as had heard good things.
