Staying locally, we booked in for dinner on our first night. Lovely welcome, nice and busy bar and we had a cosy table near the front. Almost every table was reserved or occupied on a fairly bleak October Wednesday, so definitely worth booking! Food was nice - well cooked steak which was properly medium as asked for and my wife had a great piece of cod. We weren’t hungry enough to try starters or desserts but when we’re next in the area, and we will be doing some more family history research soon, we shall go for round two!

My partner and I had a lovely meal, cooked by talented chef Lee Holland. The scallop starter was exceptional and the hake main was beautifully cooked. My partner had the duck and that too was very good. The service was friendly and efficient and the meal was good value for money. Can’t wait to return again next month with friends.

Lovely pub and team with a warm friendly welcome! Despite the great choice of food the Chef even took the time to come to our table and discuss a mix of options due to our 12yr olds strict strict dietry requirements. So kind and flexible, something you dont find much these days! The result was a delicious meal she snaffled up! Our food was equally as good! Down here on holiday and this was the best eating experience of our week. Thankyou! Would highly recommend

We brought friends from London here for a relaxed Saturday evening dinner, and it was perfect. Attentive but unobtrusive service, spotlessly clean pub, small but inventive menu, delicious food. Fabulously renovated pub after a fire a few years ago, very friendly staff. We had the best crab sandwich and ham sandwich in years for lunch and a nice bottle of rioja. The chef came and chatted to us and showed us the new rooms. Wow, we would love to stay here in the future, luxury rooms and tastefully decorated. Quiet village surrounded by beautiful scenery in gorgeous Devon. A must visit destination, especially if you are interested in the D-Day landings too.

A wonderful three nights at The Tradesman's Arms. We had a very warm welcome from Cathy, Tina and the charming team - nothing was too much. We were immediately taken by the spacious and beautifully appointed bedroom and very comfortable ensuite shower room with a lovely view of Stokenham Church. As a result we quite quickly extended the duration of our original stay. The quality and choice of breakfast was the best we have had and served in the peaceful dining room. Dinner was exceptional and well above what we expected. We took our small dog who had the time of his life! Dogs are so well catered for and certainly not an afterthought. All in all, a lovely and relaxing experience - we will definitely be back. Thank you team!

WOW..WOW..WOW!! food was Amazing both times we went. Once for Sunday lunch and once for evening meal. Food was just out of this world. Chef, and other staff couldn't of done more for us. I had seen something on the menu which when we arrived was no longer on the menu...no problem, said the chef and proceded to cook for me. Fantastic atmosphere, staff were so willing to do everything they could for us and our gog. They have very recently been awarded an AA rosette for food [and 5 * for accommodation) but i'm sure that will rise in the future.

What a fantastic welcome to a delightful pub in the village of Stokenham. We were greeted by the landlady as we arrived, and she was so welcoming and enthusiastic it was lovely to chat to her about the pub and the recent restoration that had been undertaken. I also could not fault her team, who were well motivated and paid attention to detail. We also met the chef and chatted to him for a few minutes: what a fantastic, interesting and knowledgable chap. For our meal we had for starters: Brie and tomato tartlets; mushroom and tarragon soup. The soup was thick like a puree, which made a nice change to the usual creamy mushroom with pieces of mushroom included. The tartlets were warm and tasty. For our mains we had: Salmon, potatoes and vegetables; duck breast, vegetables and potatoes. This was not just pub food. The food was cooked superbly from scratch, and all the produce were fresh. You could sense care and pride had gone into what had been cooked: you could not fault the standard. The whole experience of dinning at the Tradesman’s Arm was exceptional. So much so we have booked a table for another night. We would without hesitation recommend the Tradesman’s Arms.

Following our visit on 8 October 2019 we promised to return as part of our Devon pub project since arriving in Torquay 5 years ago. This 14th century village pub, supported by locals, features in the Alastair Sawday Pub Guide and Good Pub Guide. Sadly a devastating fire has since forced temporary closure but is now under restoration. Met co owner Cath of this freehouse, who is enthusiastic and engaging. An excellent cream tea with home made scones. They hope to fully reopen next summer. Heart felt best wishes to the The Tradesmans Arms crew. Lush countryside views.🇬🇧🇳🇿

We had a delightful lunch at The Tradesman's Arms today. The new garden dining area overlooking the village green and village church is superb. We both had the fillet steak from the specials menu and could not fault it. We enjoyed one of the best meals out we have ever had. Yesterday we went for a couple of drinks and thought it was lovely. We had not been for 3 years and we thought it was our best trip there :-) The staff were very friendly. We started in the garden which has beautiful views of the church. It soon started to rain and after a quick look inside we decided to move indoors . I was really pleased with the covid measures they had in place so we could enjoy the beautiful pub . They had many open windows and doors so there was lots of fresh air circulating and were still offering table service (many places we have been we only feel comfortable outdoors). The pub was also dog friendly. We hope to return soon with our dogs next time and have recommended it to our family.

We are here on holiday for my 35th birthday we chanced our luck by calling on the day, luckily, they had a cancellation. A few people from our B&B had tried to book in over a span of few days but they were fully booked, I can see why. Amazing food we went for dinner on Friday evening had scallops for starter, My other half had the steak (the best he has ever had, the sauce was amazing) and I went for the salmon, I am not really a fan of pasta, however, this just melted In your mouth. Had a glass of champagne quickly followed by a bottle, now known as the champagne lady 🙈. We booked in for a sunday roast today and did not disappoint Jason (the chef) has been outstanding both times we have visited. Great quality food and good sized portions. Other choices of roasts were available lamb, pork or chicken. The desert lemon baked cheesecake was huge. We arrived at The Tradesman in what we thought was good time, 7.50pm for 8pm booking. We were greeted at the door by a lady who was kind enough to offer a mask as one of our party had forgotten their’s and at that stage there was no mention of the kitchen being closed so we expected to be going in . We waited outside for a few minutes and she then came back and said your booking was for 7.30pm so you are late and our kitchen is now closed. We explained that we thought we were actually early as we thought we had booked for 8pm. She was adamant, no flexibility what so ever. once we got home and checked the booking, it’s true to say that we had got it wrong. It was indeed 7.30pm but the manner of which we were turned away was cold and unwelcoming baring in mind, in their eyes, we were only 20 minutes late. We were then left, having dressed for dinner, with nowhere to go. Very very disappointed with the customer service and consideration. I understand things are very difficult at this moment in time, but 20 minutes late and a misunderstanding with a booking? Very sad to write this review. We were really looking forward to visiting The Tradesmans. It’s now left a bit of a sour taste.

We were visiting the local area, following up some ancestor research, staying at Chillington House nearby and we were recommended the Tradesman's in Stokenham . On entering we noticed that all the tables in the small, but comfortable bar area were reserved, a good thing, but Sam the proprietor quickly arranged a table for us four in an adjacent room, making us welcome by switching on the light of an electric fire. We took drinks as we checked the menu option, but my pint of Jail Ale was not right, but I reasoned that it was probably the first out of the line, and a second pint of this normally wonderful organic ale brewed alongside the dark, lowering Dartmoor prison, would surely be better. I have no interest in damaging any small business, but suffice to say, me and my Australian guests were underwhelmed by our fish and chip suppers, the fish stale and the supposedly thrice cooked chips anything but.... I was asked by Sam on paying if everything had been alright, and on expressing my disappointment, I was told that I should have mentioned something earlier, so there!

We live in the area and, for some reason, just haven't been to The Tradesman's for a meal before. Rang up on a Sunday morning and, despite being "very busy" managed to find us a table for lunch. When we walked in the place was jam packed - a good first impression. The menu was quite varied and with various allergies very clearly marked, but we ordered a traditional Sunday roast carvery and were immediately impressed with the offer of pink or medium for the beef (one of the three meats on offer) and a choice of "small or large" for portion size. We all chose the beef and was that ever a good idea. Sirloin, beautifully cooked and hand carved in nice thick slices, with the ladies perfectly happy with the "small" and me overjoyed with the "large". Vegetables cooked just al dente completed an excellent main course. Desserts were a must and the ice cream was made in house and delicious. Friendly staff, efficient but with a real sense of fun just made the visit even better. We simply must go again.

On walking I went to the bar with my wife and 2 children where there were 4 people waiting before me. We spotted this pub on the way to our accommodation in Torcross and when we saw it was dog friendly, we had to visit and glad we did. We were greeted very warmly when we arrived and it felt very cosy and homely. I had the Salcombe crab and my husband had the lamb. Both meals were delicious and beautifully presented.

Ate here on Saturday night. Food was delicious, especially the scallops. All, three of us were pleased with the choices we had made. Easy to park which is a bonus in this part of Devon (try parking in Slapton). Nice choice of food to pick from and service was very good.

We stopped for a coffee midway on a long walk. A very warm welcome by lovely lady. Pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas. We had a large pot of coffee and delicious complimentary chocolate brownies, and even a biscuit for the dog! Would certainly return for a meal or to stay - perhaps in our campervan.

Came for Sunday lunch with the family. The food was ace. Specially the cauliflower cheese. Managed to squeeze in 3 courses as well which I never do. To good not to have a pudding. Thanks

We were looking for a pub for lunch and the Tradesman Pub didn't disappoint. A very extensive menu, but we went for a couple of starters so as to not fill us up. I had the Whitebait and my other half has the Cream Mushrooms. Both were tasty. We were made to feel very welcome by the Barmaid. Great Stuff.

Another excellent meal at the Tradesmans. Sunday kitchen closes early as the chef has been there since breakfast, but time enough for an enjoyable evening. Great for a full blown dinner, but an excellent range of starters which are generous enough for a main course for those of us with smaller appetites. The ice cream really is ice cream, just like flavoured clotted cream!. Attentive staff and cosy atmosphere.

My wife and I visited on a Wednesday lunch time, on the off-chance. We were delighted. The dog was given a bowl of water almost as soon as we arrived and the welcome from the lady serving was warm, friendly and polite. The food was excellent. I went for the Hake (locally caught) and it was really good, served with quartered potatoes and roast vegetables (Mediterranean style) . My wife's steak and ale pie was equally well prepared and presented. She was offered the choice of two sizes, the larger being described as big enough for a family of four! She went for the smaller, which was quite adequate. We would go out of our way to eat here again,

Last year my husband and I found this little gem of a place and finished up having several homemade meals there. They were superb. So of course when we decided to have a holiday in Dartmouth this year the first thing we did was book a table for Sunday lunch. What a disappointment. We got the impression that everything on the plate had been bought in, nothing seemed to have been home cooked. We would have liked to have gone back for a meal during the week, as the pub itself is lovely and very friendly, but I'm afraid the Sunday lunch meal just put us off.

We popped in on spec on a wet Saturday for lunch and although all tables were reserved we were accommodated and had some really good crab sandwiches. On seeing other dishes served we managed to get a Sunday Lunch booking and were very impressed. Prices are very reasonable for what you get would heartily recommend but book at a busy time.

Found this excellent little gem whilst staying at Torcross , in fact it's that good we went 2 days running for lunch , I suspect you may have to book a table for evenings as on both days the young lady at the bar was constantly taking bookings. The food is really good [ tip , the large steak pie is desperate dan size ] and they've also got local beers on draft which are superb , again what more do you need other than good food good beer and very pleasant service ? The Tradesmans has it all + they're dog friendly . A big thumbs up from both us and Sam the terrier.

We had two of our three meals while staying in Stokenham at the The Tradesman's Arms. One night was busy and lively. With regards food, I preferred the quiet Sunday evening when the 'special' scallops and squid with wakame (seaweed!) was still available. My husband enjoyed his steak pie. We finished with a generous plateful of 5 or 6 local cheeses. It was a meal to remember. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.

We ate in here two evenings while on holiday in Devon, and on both occasions the food was exceptional the atmosphere exceptional and the service exceptional. I can highly recommend the scallops and squid, the steak pie, the crab... all were excellent and the staff could NOT have been more accommodating, and friendly. we had not booked but they squeezed our family of four in. Please make sure you book in advance and enjoy. The chefs and the very excellent ladies front of house are a credit to this amazing historical pub.

Having spotted the dogs welcome sign we ventured in on a Saturday evening with our furry four legged child for a meal. Apparently it would appear dogs are not so welcome as we were turned away by a very abrupt woman who seemed to be in charge. Needless to say we were not impressed and we won't be trying this place again, even without the dog.

I work locally just a few doors down the road in a local opticians and frequent this lovely little cafe fairly often for lunch. I usually get a sandwich from their deli counter and they keep me coming back. I have tried a number of different options and none of them have disappointed. In the winter I especially like their soup of the day which is very well priced. I love the Mediterranean counter and often purchase a pot of Dolmades. If you're in the area I would recommend going here for lunch, you will be glad you did

We realise that this restaurant cannot provide a large menu especially during the autumn /winter but on our evening the fish choice was not on (replaced with a lazy prawn dish) and out of two desserts the crumble was also not available! Feel this is lazy as there is so much fish available locally and the excuses to not provide an apple crumble is in fact rather lazy from the kitchen. If you only want to offer pizzas and burgers, fine but don’t disappoint people with omissions.

My family and I had a fantastic and reasonably priced meal at the Imperial on Saturday. The food was tasty, plentiful and well presented - and the young waitress who served us was smiley and friendly. Will definitely return.

Dropped in for a quick lunch. Expensive for what it is. For example a small piece of frittata and a very small salad for nine ounces odd. Went home and had toast to supplement. Disappointing as had heard good things.
