Walked from Slapton only to find the pub closed due to staff shortages. Understand the difficulty in running a community pub, and perhaps you could use your Facebook page to advertise closures, so walkers can plan appropriately and hopefully bring you more customers. 😀

We had an absolutely wonderful meal here. The food was fantastic (no microwave usual pub rubbish), it was fresh and clearly thought out and executed well. The kids meal was really nice and all the portions were generous. The atmosphere with murals by a local artist was great and the views are to die for. I didn’t catch the name of the young gentleman who served us but he was excellent. Polite, professional and accommodating. We’ll be back for sure! Thank you Kings arms 😊

We stopped off for dinner and were not disappointed. The menu on that evening was very good and we both enjoyed the meals we had. It is described as a community pub but don't let that put you off. The atmosphere was very good and the staff very friendly and accommodating. On the evening we called in it was clear that it can get very busy and you might want to make reservation. On final thought, the view from the rear of the pub is amazing overlooking the sea and the countryside

Fabulous food fabulous views. The food was really really good. We had arachini to start. I had the scallops for main and my partner had the hake cooked to perfection. To finish we shared a lemon parfait with ice cream which had a delicious zesty lemon tang. John manager/front of house was perfect host made us feel very welcombe. A community run pub, run to completely professional standards. Simple sandwich menu for lunch was well priced and good value; prawn mayo baguette and cheddar and pickle sandwiches we had were tasty and a good sized portion. Majority of beers and ciders on offer are local Devon brews and also reasonable prices. The views from the terrace and garden... priceless. Do stop by if you're in the area, a great place for a bite and a pint and great to see the community pulling together to keep their pub open.

The King’s Arms is a wonderfully friendly community pub with all the warmth you might expect of your favourite local. We were lucky enough to be staying just a few yards up the road for a week with our friends. We enjoyed Saturday afternoon drinky-poos with live music in the garden. The landlord, Jon, very kindly persuaded staff to open up and provide us with Sunday evening dinner – slightly delayed with the England match going to extra time ! – but they won anyway and a fabulous evening nonetheless. Everyone enjoyed their meals too - lovely fresh, local fare. Wednesday Quiz Night with very tasty pizzas – ‘Team T&T Dynamite’ bombed dramatically bouncing Barnes Wallis style into next-to-last place. Great fun ! Jon is a truly fabulous host and, no doubt, the driving force behind the continued success of this great village pub. Everyone involved including the customers are just so friendly it must be hard not to have a good time here. We wish you all at The King’s Arms every success for the future. Nice view but horrid food - definitely a drinking pub only. £15.50(!) burger arrived after 45 minutes wait (was first to order after kitchen opened and no others eating) bearing no resemblance to the description on the menu - no pickles and was in some sort of panini? I'm no Gordon Ramsay but I could have done much better myself. It's important to support community-run pubs but maybe this one should stick to what they appear to be best at: a beer with a view.

Best Pub Sunday Lunch in South Devon? We have dined here or a regular basis and always enjoyed the welcome, the food and the beers. After their winter break, we returned for their new menu Sunday Lunch at just £18.50/head, it was both generous and fabulous. I opted for the trio of beef, ham and turkey. All the meats are from local suppliers, the beef was tender, the ham was tasty, and the turkey was succulent. The vegetables (White cabbage, roast carrots, red cabbage, leeks in sauce and cauliflower cheese) were all cooked to perfection whilst the roast potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Extra gravy was automatically served in a jug. The sea views are fab, and the new manager is most welcoming.

A very warm welcome on a cold starry night, a pub quiz which the landlord had put a lot of effort into writing himself, and a convivial evening with friends. Combined with a very nice glass of chilled rosé, some homely interior decor, and a very clean toilet, all made for a great evening. At £2 per person for the quiz, this surely must be one of the cheapest and most fun winter Wednesday nights out in the local area. We’ll be back! While on holiday nearby, we called in on the off chance they may have a table for us for dinner that evening and found it was their reopening night; they did have a table; and there was a quiz! We returned at the appointed time and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We discovered that this is a community run pub who had been closed for a refurb and were reopening with volunteers running the place. The decor was great and the choice of food excellent. The portions were generous and so well cooked. My mussels were cooked to perfection with delicious crusty bread to soak up the white wine they had been cooked in. Then the quiz started! We always come last in pub quizzes as we don't know about sport or photos of celebrities but this quiz was so different with very varied questions - some multiple choice but all that anyone could have a guess at. After each question, the scoreboard was revealed and there was great friendly rivalry between the teams. We actually came second much to our surprise! This community pub is so welcoming we would be there every night if we lived locally and I would certainly be volunteering to do a stint behind the bar. Good luck to you all - you deserve to do well and thank you for such a wonderfully entertaining evening with excellent food. Rice 'n Pudding!

A glorious sunny winter’s day demanded a lunch by the sea (a day for apricity- look it up!). Decided on a visit down to the King’s Arrms after a gap since before it had become a community pub. Been coming irregularly for over twenty years & loved the building & the position. Glorious drive to it along the coast road (both ways) too. A friendly welcome & a pint of well kept Jail Ale before having a good look at an unexpectedly comprehensive menu with a couple of specials on the board. Turned out to be a new menu just launched a few days before & there were plenty of familiar favourites but some interesting additions as well. The three of us settled on a Mediterranean sharing platter as starter (billed as for two but was easily enough to satisfy all of us). One of the best Olive mixes I’ve seen in years with sun dried tomatoes, cornichons & pickled garlic., hummus, tzatziki, grilled peppers, halloumi sticks & pitta to dip - would happily have it as a satisfying lunch for two. The special of grilled sea bass won us all over & was perfectly cooked, served with baby potatoes & salsa verde. Couldn’t resist the dessert menu either. The wine menu was a total surprise too. When was the last time you saw a good selection of reds & whites priced at £20 bottle? Amazing! Service was friendly & attentive & the views up the coast just stunning. So good to see an old favourite back in top form again. Definitely back as a stop on the way to Slapton.

Well - bit of a strange one this. I love this pub and their food but was dissappointed to have our reservation cancelled at short notice on Thursday 7 December 2023. There were two of us and a cat (yes really - on a lead) booked in for lunch and we travel to my mums place in Plymouth from Durham (7 hr drive) so I rang and booked the lunch several days in advance. I was called on my mobile when I was around 60 miles from Strete by the venue and told that they were cancelling our booking as a large group from the village were having lunch and no additional bookings should have been made. Very great shame. The caller was polite and said they were sorry but I feel the cancellation should have been made much more in advance than 1.5 hrs as that pretty well left us with no alternative. I will go again to the pub but was not a great scenario on this occasion. Never mind.......

So disappointed tonight that the new manager did not feel my friend and I were worthy of his attention. We went to support his opening night as residents local to the area but sadly will think again. We know how hard the Kings Arms summer has been and supported the fund raising. We also follow on Facebook and when we saw the post regarding a meet or greet. Didn't hesitate to support. The new manager ignored us from the moment we walked in, even though the pub only had one other customer. Different story with Strete local residents as soon as they arrived. Almost falling over himself, so false, interested but only these chosen ones. Certainly how it appeared. All very uncomfortable. He wasn't even interested in the international traveler that booked a table. The diner tried to have a conversation but the manager did not hide his disinterest. The manager couldn't even be bothered to acknowledge us leaving! Very saddened to have such treatment when community pubs need the support. Will sadly think twice about going again. Maybe his intention is to only attract Strete residents and is not interested in anyone in the surrounding villages.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting this charming pub, and I left thoroughly impressed. While pubs are often associated with beer and hearty meals, what stood out to me here was their exceptional coffee. It's not every day that you find a pub that serves coffee of such high quality, and it was a delightful surprise. But what truly took my breath away was the view. The pub is situated in a picturesque location that offers stunning vistas. Sipping on a delicious cup of coffee while gazing out at the scenic beauty was a truly memorable experience. It's not just a place to enjoy a drink; it's a place to savor the moment. The combination of great coffee and an awe-inspiring view makes this pub a hidden gem worth discovering. Whether you're a coffee lover or simply in search of a relaxing spot with a view, this place has it all. I can't recommend it enough for those seeking a peaceful and enjoyable outing.

Had a wonderful stop at the pub today while we walked down to Landcombe. Staff were incredibly polite, lovely bit of banter with the kiddos. Food was really good! Nothing to fault at all, really tasty. At roughly £45 for 2 adults and 2 children (inc. beer and cider) you can't go wrong. Dog friendly and even a little play area while the kids waited for lunch. Amazing view for the husband and I. If we visit the area again we will certainly be back!

Friendly, relaxed atmosphere, fabulous views and dog friendly too. The food is outstanding with a good choice of local beers and ciders. This is a community owned and run establishment and the “staff” are mostly volunteers, that said, the service is outstanding. It is possible...

Highly recommended - What a fantastic meal we’ve had this evening at the Kings Arms. A cosy atmosphere and beautiful setting. We enjoyed the pies and pizzas, but it was hard to choose as the whole menu was appealing. We must give a shout out to the lads serving, they were so polite and provided excellent service. Our dog was made to feel welcome and a water bowl was brought to her. We look forward to returning next year and wish you all the best with your outstanding community pub.

Great location with views over the river. We were seated outside under a canopy on a bench table with no back, so not too comfortable. The food was fresh and delicious and service friendly and efficient.

We visited during our stay in the countryside just outside of Kingsbridge. We came on a whim but they managed to accommodate us despite it being a busy evening. We loved the ambience of the place and all the dishes we sampled, if we’re ever back down here we will definitely return.

We popped over from Dartmouth for a walk and a drink. Decided to go into the Packet for a drink and sat up at the decked/roof area, which has a fantastic view over the river, train station, and is lovely and cosy. We had wine and beer and found the staff to be very friendly and a warm atmosphere. Beer selection was great, and my wife enjoyed her wine. Can't say if the food is good as we just had a drink. Might pop in again, if for nothing else but to enjoy the view.

My children purchased ice creams here. They came back and said the portions were generous and tasted great(raspberry ripple) .

Lovely place for lunch, great atmosphere and genuinely friendly team. Very good value for money and while you cannot tell from the outside it is a cosy space inside.
