Bovey Castle is certainly a beautiful and interesting location. However, with all their grounds parking spaces are a premium. Eventually, we were offered a space in a coned off area. A very well appointed building as your would expect for a Five Star Hotel. We began with an aperitif 'Gusbourne English Sparkling' which was superb. A absolutely delightful bar. Smith's Brasserie! Well, let's begin with the positives. Excellent welcome and staff were fantastic throughout our Birthday lunch. Extremely unimaginative menu to say the least. A nice enough starter. Perhaps would have expected freshly made mayonnaise, not from a bottle, in such an establishment. Pleasant enough bottle of rose, although there was a choice of ONE. My wife (Birthday Girl) and I opted for pasta dishes. Absolutely clueless when it comes to pasta dishes. Packet spaghetti with prawns (four small ones) and a Provencal sauce? Very little of it too. It is an Italian dish and the sauce requires mixing in the pasta. Tagliatelle, again from a packet, with some type of utterly non-descript cream sauce at the bottom of the dish. Totally unseasoned dishes. The cooking water needs to taste of the sea. Therefore, seasoned. No offer of cheese or pepper or pangrattato, nothing, and certainly no theatre. Huge improvements required I'm afraid to make an enjoyable dining experience. Dress Code: Expectations, as you would imagine were high. Staff were smart, but could have been better attired for such a hotel. Clientele: Lots of jeans and un-ironed tee shirts wondering around and dining. A pair of football shorts and dirty trainers at one table, others with feet on the chairs in the bar and the final straw was a couple arriving in towelling dressing gowns and flip flops. NO! Sorry. There's a time and a place and this is not acceptable. Unfortunately, this was a lunch to judge if a weekend stay would be appropriate for our anniversary and it simply is not good enough.

I was served a chicken and bacon pie, the middle was still frozen and the outside was warm, they took it away, I said let's see how it comes back to my mum surely the would give me a 'fresh' one? It was returned reheated again and fully cut open. The pie was fully splayed open, looked like baby food. i had only partially cut it open. The wedges were only warm to and very firm. I'd been here once before and wasn't happy but mum fancied a change. I regret it. I will not return. How they are still going I don't know. They use massive plates but portion is small, cost £10 then drink. I will not return.

This is only the second time I've been in here.. The last time was before lockdown, when we ordered coffee which was luke-warm. We complained and was met with a very curt reply, " we aren't allowed to make it too hot. Health and Safety!" We said we'd like it warming up but they refused. We came back today, as it appeared to be under a new name "Coffee Society" We had to pay an extra 60p per cup for oat milk, and again it was Luke warm. Had to order a pot of boiling water to warm it up ( which made it really weak. ) £8.45 for 2 drinks!!! Looking up, there were cobwebs everywhere, and it wasn't very clean. Never again.

Had a very good long weekend break in the recently refurbished bedrooms. Could not fault the staff who helped us during our stay.

Nice place, always enjoy the coffee, but sometimes the staff are chatting and forgetting the customers. But that’s a minor problem.

I recently visited the M&S Cafe and had the pleasure of being served by Grace Williams. I wanted to take a moment to highlight her exceptional service. Grace was not only hardworking but also incredibly polite. She handled my order with efficiency and a smile, making my experience enjoyable. It's clear that she takes pride in her work and genuinely cares about her customers. I appreciate her dedication and would definitely recommend visiting the cafe to experience her excellent service firsthand. I would give her a pay rise.

Llamé esta mañana para un café y un dulce. En el mostrador había un pastel de mousse de pistacho y chocolate. Se veía bien, así que pensé en comprar una porción. Pedí un macchiato de caramelo de dos tragos. Ambos artículos llegaron a £ 7. 30 y aquí está la parte que me enojó... la rebanada de pastel que recibí no era la rebanada que estaba en el mostrador... cuando llegué a casa y abrí la caja... sabía que me habían tomado. Este era un desliz de la porción que estaba en el mostrador. Un poco de juego de manos continuó. Estaba observando al tipo y era tan hábil para completar el engaño que ni siquiera me di cuenta. El tipo realmente cortó la porción por la mitad por el medio. Malas y exiguas... 4 cucharaditas y eso se había ido... el café... dos bocados y toda la experiencia duró 1. 6 minutos. ¿Es esto lo que deberíamos esperar? ¿Deberíamos estar preparados para preguntar “eso es lo que obtendré?” ¿O deberíamos esperar que esto suceda? En ninguna parte decía que el pastel se sirve por peso y esta rebanada pesa X. No espere obtener una buena relación calidad-precio. Hablando de una estafa flagrante. La próxima vez seguiré caminando y me haré un café medio decente cuando llegue a casa. Robo a la luz del día.

What makes this a five star review is the wonderful staff. Really kind and helpful. They look after with great politeness and care

We used to visit the M&S cafe a few years ago. In those days you each had a free biscuit, a cup and saucer and ice cold water with a slice of lemon to go with the espresso. Today (4/3/23) you get a scalding hot mug of insipid undrinkable foul liquid, filled to the brim leaving no room for milk, without a saucer. You can also get an espresso that tastes like battery acid (my stomach is still suffering 6 hours later) and luke warm water in a filthy glass. Never again!

We had soup and baked potato. My wife is gluten free and was told she had to buy her own gluten free roll in the shop! The baked potato was very small and only lukewarm. Not what we expect from Waitrose

Me and my mum came here yesterday . The lady that served us .was very welcoming and very helpful.. we sat outside . The drinks and the food were excellent and so was the service she gave us .. we will come back again ...

The restaurant and the food was cold. We arrived around lunchtime 10/01/2025 and ordered two full English breakfasts. We waited about 20 minutes for the food to arrive. When we began to consume the food it was obvious that the plate, beans, mushrooms and toast were cold. When the waitress arrived at another table I complained about the temperature of the food and ambient temperature in the restaurant . Her reply was to say the heating comes on now and again . The temperature outside actually felt warmer than it was in the café area . I would not recommend any Morrison's outlets for food because this is the second time I have been bitterly disappointed with the food and surroundings. The first time was at the Ebbw Vale store where I purchased Fish and chips for 2 which was very poor quality.

The cafe food is great plenty of highchairs the service area could be improved so your not waiting so long less people making cups of tea and more clearing tables

Great place for coffee and cake especially if you have little ones. Coffee good and best value in the town. Staff always efficient and friendly. Seating inside and out both with good views and the kids have freedom to play. Even got a loyalty card.
