We (numbering 14) had our pre-Christmas social at Café Bar 26 last night (10 Dec) - and the whole experience was brilliant!! The seasonal main course was absolutely great - and the chocolate & orange cake was superb!! While the mulled wine was so good I had 2 glasses! Even the non-vegans amongst us were blown away. And the Café even managed to cope with 2 last-minute arrivals. So I'll definitely be voting for us to return for all future socials.

Bought a BLT and ham salad sandwich. The bacon in the BLT was hardly cooked, very fatty. Almost broke my tooth on something in the sandwich, must of been a stone in the salad. Very expensive for what you get. The brownie was good though. Would recommend going elsewhere

Since discovering this little gem we no longer visit the area without popping in. The chocolate twists are generously sized, nice and buttery, and the coffee is divine. The staff are more than happy to cater to all my awkward needs and questions with a smile - nothing is too much trouble!

For us, location was important but so was customer service. Being just 7 miles from Keswick meant it was easy and convenient to buy provisions yet being at the foot of Hellvellyn and on the edge of Thirlmere water put walking and scenery right at your doorstep. The meal we ate here was superb, the breakfast service fantastic. The only negative observation was that they appeared to be short staffed which put some of the team under pressure. They handled it but there was one evening in particular when Jo (?) was on her own serving at the bar and taking all the restaurant orders. Smiles were at a premium that night. There is no doubt that if we stayed near Thirlmere again, we would come back here. It’s so much more that just an old pub. It was warm, friendly and atmospheric. Car parking got busy but that was understandable. People visited because the food here was really good.

Tried to get food from a couple of pubs and they were so busy. Tried this pub as it tucked away. Best find. We were lucky to get a table. Ordered the steak/ale pie omg it was heaven, falling apart meat, soft melting pastry, veggies cooked just right. We visited again for Sunday lunch wasn't disappointed big portions plenty of beef, homemade yorkshires no sign of aunt Bessie. Service was quick and friendly. Will come here again when in the area. Just hope I can get a table.

Staff are very unprofessional!! We visited the cafe for breakfast, staff do not welcome you and just stare at you for the duration of your visit! Childish young girls watch you put every bit of food into your mouth, whisper in front of you and giggle constantly. They then run off into the kitchen to gossip more before coming back to stare at you eating! Very uncomfortable visit and we won't be returning! Nothing special about this place, best to be avoided! The food is overpriced! Cakes and pastries looked like they had been there for days too.

We stopped by in the morning for a sausage, bacon and egg roll and mocha. We sat outside as it was a but tight indoors for more than a couple of people. The food was decent. A nice runny egg and tasty sausage and bacon. Well-filled as well. The mocha was ok. Not the best I've had but passable on a cold day to wash down the roll. Not a bad little place where I'd happily go again for the breakfast roll.

First time back since new management took over. Really busy and a great atmosphere We both had Roast Beef Sunday lunch, which was amazing! We thanked the new manager Lauren and congratulated her for turning the place around since taking over in October. Will definitely be back, highly recommend
