Pack Horse Inn in Allerdale

Great live music for a Saturday night but unfortunately charging almost £9 for a 200ml bottle of Prosecco was very misguided by The Packhorse - such a shame! Maybe a price review is required!

Unfortunately there are not enough stars on this review to credit this venue for the quality of their beef Sunday dinner. For me, it's the very best I've had that I can ever remember. Food quality and quantity certainly hut the spot, the staff were extremely attentive. Robinson's brewery, this should be your benchmark, hats off to the Pack Horse.

Just had a pint but it was great.

Well over priced £17 for a small burger and a 12 over cooked chips. Never again!

Great place to eat and the staff are so helpful and organised. I have a multiple food allergies and they amended the dish to accommodate me. Really warm and friendly place. Would definitely recommend this pub!

Very average food for the price you pay. Prices are much higher than listed online!! We chose this pub due to the many many 5 star reviews however were quite disappointed with the food. We spent £17 each on our meals- steak pie with chips and veg, and fish & chips with mushy peas. The food lacked flavour and chips were a bit soggy, however good portion size and friendly staff. If somebody could introduce the kitchen to some salt and herbs the food could have so much potential.

Amazing food and really friendly staff

Lovely establishment, old pub, with fab meals, have been there before. We had the chargrilled chicken breast with haggis, black pudding with peppercorn sauce. Choice of chips or mash, veg or salad, made a filling and tasty meal. Will happily go there again when we next visit.

Lovely Inn just off the main square selling excellent Robinson's real ale. Paulicarus had Dizzy Blond. Very popular pub with good pub food. Seating can be found over 3 levels. Has a lovely old world pub charm. Back in 2023 with Ic and Flic and as good as ever. Lovely pint of Cumbrian Way.

Great food, slight issue with side dish of onion rings as could have been done a bit longer, but we're OK, the bottle of wine we ordered was £25 which they all were was quite a mark up as bottle retailed at under £6 So would suggest better wine or different prices on bottles that's either better or less They take money before you get your food Good job it was decent All in all would eat here again but paying after they might get more in tips unless they have had problems with ppl not paying before leaving

Great pub food home made fresh vegetables and proper chips

Food's good but from where we sat we could see into the kitchen and all the chef seemed to do was empty microwaved plastic containers onto plates. The beer's ok , it's a bit overrun with dogs though, and the live music was some of the worst I've ever heard. But the service is good and friendly and with a better band we may have stayed longer. As it was we went off for a bus crawl

Met friends here for a meal on a busy Saturday night. Not been to Keswick before. Two had burgers two had the vegetarian Wellington with chips and veg. The Wellington was smothered with a too spicy sauce that overpowered the Wellington. Veg was overcooked carrots and watery cabbage. Chips were cold and greasy. At £16 a dish I was disappointed. The friends who had the burgers weren't impressed either.

Sunday lunch before a visit to Keswick. Lunch was great, two fish and chips, a fish burger and a mushroom and courgette stroganoff. Service was prompt and very friendly. The food was fresh cooked and delicious. The fish batter was lovely and crispy.

Food was tasty and reasonably priced, staff friendly and helpful, we both had warm baguettes pulled pork and chicken with ham salad and coleslaw, delicious 😋😋, would recommend

I can't remember the last time I had proper chips in a pub or restaurant (actual potato cut and fried as opposed to the frozen variety) and these were the business. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. It's a ten from me!

You have a choice of hostleries in Keswick but make sure you visit the Pack Horse, especially on Quiz night!. Great food, great beer and a quiz master who is a sight to behold!

Decent selection of drink. Beef cobbler meal and beef burger meal spot on. Waiting staff spot on. Bar staff spot on. Service spot on. Lovely pub with a mixture of locals and tourists. Great atmosphere.

One of many great pubs in keswick. Can be a little quieter than other pubs due to being hidden off the main part of town but is well worth a visit. The two bar staff on Tuesday evening were very friendly and we caught them dancing behind the bar as we walked in, very funny.😄 Returned here again some 8 months later, the pub was quite a lot busier than before which makes the pub even better.

Went in with my partner for dinner, had a great laugh with the blonde girl and young guy about the weather and our plans for the weekend, great ribs sold there Will be coming back when we are next up

Went in for a drink,but would have stayed for food, we got told off for closeing the blindes as it was so cold and In no u setrms was told, open the blinds people will think we are closed. Did not eat here and never in my 40years of coming to Keswick have a ever been treated in this way. Stay away from the Pack hourse.

I've been in here several times over the years. A nice, cosy pub, good choice beers (pricey - this IS Keswick!) but quite frosty service. As I was waiting, a customer who was leaving returned her empty glasses to the bar and said 'thanks'. Not a flicker from the lady behind the bar, who never even looked up. The service I received was similarly frosty. I'm sure she's extremely efficient, and looked far from inexperienced - but is it really that difficult to at least smile at someone who is, after all, a paying customer?

Very poor quality, vegetables dry boiled to slush, chicken tikka was over cooked and dry-tikka well not as we know it, tasteless, staff miserable as way too many customers. Felt we were crushed and pushed in after making a booking for Saturday dinner. I recognise Keswick was busy with the Christmas Light Switch on but other places were too but had a smile and great service even though busy. We always thought Packhorse was a treat but the food was shockingly disappointing but the bill was shockingly high for what we had.

Ordered a gammon chips and pineapple and was served the but of the pineapple which was totally unedible and the gammon was as tough as old boots, we also Ordered a sausage baguette which was tiny pices of cut up sausage in a baguette. Was very pricy aswell and thats before we saw the food

Great food at good prices and really friendly staff!! Had a bit of a laugh with the guy serving us, which makes all the difference! We are already looking forward to our next visit!!

We always enjoy our visits to this great pub. Food not available in the pub but you can get it next door and eat it in the pub. A good example of business's working together.

Lovely pub never had food but looked delicious

Nice olde world pub, nice enough selection of beer. Food was excellent if you like proper unpretentious home made pub grub, my beef and ale pie and chips was very enjoyable however the only reason I dropped a star is because it could have been hotter. Service at the bar was ok service of the food was very good hence another 4 star. In conclusion we would return and we would recommend.

Decent selection of drinks on offer at a reasonable price to be fair, Halloween weekend as well..live music was OK and served until midnight....was there the previous February and got spoiled with a fabulous solo act Pete somebody or other created a great atmosphere.

Great place 2 hav a drink not had food in there yet but always looks lovely

I had the chicken and leek pie. It had one, no kidding, one piece of chicken in it, a mouthful only. The pie was full of white pasty gunge. Veg was over cooked, chips had been sitting waiting to be used and so dry, oily and almost inedible. Service was pleasant. This used to be a good eatery. Gone way down hill.

We popped in for a drink whilst staying in Keswick as we enjoyed it when we visited before. This time we found the staff very clicky and not welcoming or friendly. As soon as they knew we only wanted a drink, no one was interested in serving us and this wasn't the case in March. Maybe different staff. Toilets are basic, hot water and soap but could do with a proper clean.

Great place.. good atmosphere, great pub food (good choice of menu) and enjoyed a relaxing evening out. Will be back next time we're in Keswick

I cannot comment on food as we didn’t order any. A couple of reasons why… one, it was a wet day and the place was full of wet dogs, the smell was awful so put us off. Two, by the time we bought one round of drinks for 4 people, the bill was £28! Our youngest child is autistic and was eating sweets, a young woman told us she had to stop eating them because they sell food. She’s a child with certain needs and wouldn’t have eaten anything on the menu should we have ordered anyway. We won’t be calling again, really unenjoyable experience

We came here for some lunch and this place really is hidden! The food was really nice, they offer a range of different options and the portions sizes were good. The atmosphere is nice and cosy. Overall I’d come back!

After sampling several disappointing pubs in Keswick for our evening meal we tried the Pack Horse Inn. Unlike some of the others, we got a lovely welcome and were shown to a table. The menu also seemed much better than the other pubs with several meal options that we hadn’t seen elsewhere. The result was that we returned a further couple of times during our week's holiday.

Went in Friday and Saturday night whilst in keswick and the live music was superb! Brilliant atmosphere.

The Pack Horse Inn is a wonderful place to eat, drink and even get merry (if that is your want). A great selection of beers, ales, wines and Spirits and a menu with something on it for all tastes. Food and drink prices are average with most main meals costing between £14 and £18 pounds. The food is very good and portions are more than enough to satisfy your hunger. The Moroccan Tagine with Goats Cheese is amazing (although was on as a specail during our visit).

Food was nice enough, if expensive. Veggie and gf options. Staff were friendly and welcome dogs. The male waiter fussed over every dog, which is nice, but I find it hard to believe he's going and washing his hands every time before handling food. (But could be wrong) Cost nearly £100 for 4 main courses and 4 drinks (2 of which were water).

My husband and myself went here a few days ago food was nice although there was a bit of paper in the for yes it was human error but we mentioned it to the waiting staff and my opinion something should been taken off the bill , but other than that food was nice everyone very friendly.

Place was busy which is usually a good sign, we sat in the middle level and got a glimpse of the food going past so it was a definite "we are eating here" and it did not disappoint. I will definitely eat here again

Fantastic find. Friendly staff, amazing baguette and really accommodating removing elements from baguette’s. Spent sometime here having a drink something to eat and waiting for family to find us. A lovely old building, nice to see it being used by locals and a great place to people watch.

We dropped in here searching for food after trying several other places first that were full - and we are so glad that happened! We had the chicken, bacon and leek pie and the beef cobbler and both dishes were INCREDIBLE - especially the cobbler! Great vibe in the place too. Highly recommend for a tasty pub dinner !

Sad to say the meal my wife and I had was more than disappointing. We both ordered chicken tikka masala. When it arrived the chicken was bland with no hint of spices and was swimming in sauce which had little or no body. Not a pleasant meal for someone who has been a chef for over 40 years. It was not a pleasant experience.

Lunch stop for 4 people. Had great food as always. The Packhorse burger was as good as its always been. Tried the battered Chicken Burger which was superb.

We called in on the off chance that they were still doing Sunday dinner. We just caught last settings. One of the kids wanted chicken, but there wasn't any left. The kitchen staff went and got a chicken fillet and cooked it for him. Our lass got the last beef dinner. The beef was really tender. I had the pork. It was absolutely delicious. The whole dinner was excellent. Only downfall was it needed more gravy. We had to ask for more. But don't take that away to how nice the dinner was. The pub is set back off the high street, so it was pure luck we found it. But would definitely go back. I don't often give 5 stars. But this deserves it. Ps, the fish and chips looked really nice.

This was nice enough for a busy Saturday night in July but they were obviously still trying to train new staff, so the service was a bit slow and haphazard. Food was OK when it arrived and hopefully the service will improve once the new staff are settled.

Tasty pub grub. Friendly helpful staff. Out of sight, literally 15 metres off the main street of Keswick. Well worth a visit, for food and drink.

Really nice food and lovely service

Returned after 4 years. Am pleased to see everything was as good as ever. Great service and food. Good prices. Lovely old fashioned pub. Would certainly go back again. Hopefully wont have to wait 4 years.

The only criticism is that we booked a table and we were put on a tiny table next to the exit and the lighting was dim.

Popped in for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely delicious. Service was great and prices were reasonable. Glad we gave it a go before reading recent reviews, honestly could not fault the food at all.

I loved it here, I felt very welcomed. The man explained the gluten free options and the lady was great to talk to.
