Go to the Pack Horse Inn if you want really good food, good drinks and a cozy Pub. It's simple, go in, sit where you want, decide what you want, order at the bar and your food comes out in a reasonable amount of time. The ribs were tender and the sauces perfect. Good place to relax and recharge.

We were so impressed with both the food and the service during my visit. The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, well-cooked, and full of flavor. Every dish exceeded my expectations. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating a great atmosphere. It was also refreshing to see a young member of the team focused on his job, serving food with a smile rather than being distracted by his phone—a real credit to the team! Overall, a fantastic experience, and I’ll definitely be returning. Highly recommend!

Missed the mark on this occasion! Simple drinks order wrong. Food was average unfortunately. And the main point...... Rude staff! Not acceptable at all. It costs nothing to be nice..... I will be looking elsewhere until the staff learn some manners. I welcome some feedback from the owner/manager of this establishment.

My friends and I had a lovely meal here following a hike nearby. The food was delicious and served promptly, the service was homely and welcoming, and the ambience was great. I especially recommend the Cod and Chips, although it's a classic, it was done to perfection! If we're back in Keswick we'll be sure to pay another visit :)

Fine for a quick drink but I wouldn’t eat here, had to wait 1.30hrs for food. Waitress didn’t even notice we were waiting so long we had to go up and ask where our food was. Not the type to complain but it was obvious we had been forgotten about and god knows how long we would have waited if we didn’t query. Service was mediocre, we were offered a free dessert however we had a long walk back to our accommodation and it was getting dark, with the initial wait we we decided it was best to get on our way. Having said this the food was nice… Such a same.

Arrived at 630pm Sunday 12th January the staff were lovely, beef dinner lovely but the beef was really tough and chewy with lots of gristle all throughout it. I gave my dog some and left all the rest. Hardly any veg which was disappointing but the mash Yorkshire pudding and roasties were perfect. At the end of my meal the waiter came over and asked how it was, i told him and he said oh im sorry about the meat. Thats it …. not 10% off my meal no free drink … nothing. I work in this industry and i would always over an alternative or something if someone genuinely has had a bad experience.

Tried to get food from a couple of pubs and they were so busy. Tried this pub as it tucked away. Best find. We were lucky to get a table. Ordered the steak/ale pie omg it was heaven, falling apart meat, soft melting pastry, veggies cooked just right. We visited again for Sunday lunch wasn't disappointed big portions plenty of beef, homemade yorkshires no sign of aunt Bessie. Service was quick and friendly. Will come here again when in the area. Place was nice, as were the staff. Main meals were quite good, though we found the soup of the day (Cauliflower and Parmesan) to be rather bland and watery in taste, very disappointing overall, and the chips whilst nice and chunky were ok, but weren't as good as we've had elsewhere in the region on our trip, or Keswick itself for that matter. We did find that this place had room for us though for dinner, add it's much bigger inside than other Pubs in the immediate area.

We visited here for a quick lunch yesterday. We didn't find the service to be very friendly. They were advertising sandwiches that they didn't have which was a shame. We had beef sandwiches and the beef was burned all around the edges and black. I presume cold beef slices were put in the bread and grilled as it got burned. The gravy was pretty tasteless too and for £11 a sandwich it was a little disappointing!

Yet another WS outlet that promises so much from the outside and it's then a total let down inside. Biggest problem I found here was the service levels, 20 minutes wait having ordered on the app (the pub was very quiet at the time), many tables were not cleared of used plates etc. Another large open plan area that could so easily have been sectioned to provide a more warm, cosy atmosphere, with more comfortable furnishings.

Don’t waste your money. We’d read recent reviews on trip advisor, a lot not good but thort we’d give it a go. Eaten here for years but tonight was a disaster. Are the onion rings home made, we asked. Yes, we make our own beer batter was the reply. Food arrived, obviously frozen onion rings, thick batter. Yuk. Scampi was also cooked from frozen, small n chewy. Yuk. Asked if food was okay. No, was our reply, Debs, the ‘waitress’, asked what was wrong, we explained. She clearly hadn’t listened, when we came to paying bill, we asked what chef had said about our concerns, her reply was, she hadn’t told him, that was what they served. We refused to play for onion rings, rude is not an adequate description of her replies or attitude. Customer service, hasn’t got a clue. We paid bill, without the onion rings and left. We’d usually eat there at least 3 times for a weeks holiday, but won’t be going again. 😢😢

For context we were visiting from London and came at 2:30pm on a Sunday so not sure if we got last bits of meat / no veg was left? We normally enjoy visiting the pack horse on our fairly frequent visits to Keswick but on this occasion we were given somewhat of a rude awakening of the commercial aspects of this establishment, whether they were busy or not 😟We ordered drinks at the bar (and not given what we’d ordered!) and as there were no tables free downstairs we took our drinks upstairs and took a seat. A lady approached us and asked us if we were ready to order food, and we replied that we were only having a drink. She appeared to accept this and walked away, however, a few minutes later she rather abruptly told us that the table was only available if we were ordering food. We were ‘thanked’ for our cooperation in a very condescending manner 😖Attitude and overall ser- abysmal in our opinion - avoid this place like the plague. Grudgingly, I very much doubt we’ll be back 😞

Amazing find! Ate here last night after staying in Rosthwaite and having limited options as we had not booked anywhere in advance. We were greater by really friendly staff, a cosy informal atmosphere and a great menu. I am usually a bit dubious about pub fish and chippy, usually preferring to go to an actual chippy, but WOW! They were amazing! We were both really impressed. Great portions after a day walking in Borrowdale and so so tasty. Good range of beers on tap too.

Have visited this cafe previously and had no complaints and had a good experience. Unfortunately when we visited today it was disappointing. We both had the Sunday Roast dinner we have had before on other occasions but this time it was lukewarm even the gravy and it was not enjoyable. The roast potato was watery and looked insipid, the mash potato watery and lumpy. The peas served were out of a tin and the meat which was turkey was cold. The person who served us at the till was not engaging and since we paid £27.45 for the two dinners I feel it was poor value and would be reluctant to go again.
