Brewers Fayre Cockermouth in Allerdale

Cold soup but after waiting 40 minutes for it and being starving I wasn't sending it back. In total 1.5hrs just for a 2 corse dinner. Slow service and clearly not enough staff.

One of the better Premier inn restaurants

We popped in for lunch and were met at the door and told we could pick anywhere. We were a party of 8 and the lady told us the best tables to choose. We made our order at the bar and the lady there was very friendly and helpful with sorting suitable glasses for children and telling us about the hot drink refill options. When we came back to order desert, she remembered our table number too! Service was really good overall. Deserts were delayed but we were kept informed, and tbh it gave a chance for our big dinners to go down :p I personally found the food very nice, I had the Thai green curry with chicken. My childrens meals were filling and no complaints there either, both commented the pizza was yummy and nothing was left! I loved the refillable got drinks, what a great idea!

We arrived here after a long day, asked if food was being served still, we were told yes, so decided to buy a drink, after paying for our drinks we were told, food was no longer being served, however we saw multiple tables receive food whilst having our drinks, terrible service, disgusting attitude, clearly the kitchen was still open the staff just didn't want to do their jobs, Alison to her credit did apologise for the staff but it was not a good experience at all

Good, and friendly service. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, and a very reasonable price. However, don't have the tonic water, it's not very nice. Other than that, I'd recommend eating there.

Food wasn't bad, it's BF and never going to win Michelin stars, to be fair. Staff were friendly enough if a little "relaxed" at times, though the food did come out quite quickly once ordered.

I wasn't told what items were unavailable - only found out when I ordered. Ordered 6 chicken wings as a starter - received 5. Told the waitress (the same one who failed to tell me what wasn’t available on the menu) but she didn’t seem bothered - she didn’t even ask if I wanted the sixth one. Other than that, the food was ok.

The place was a shambles. I felt sorry for the staff. Totally under staff for the amount of visitors coming through the door. The hot food took an age to arrive. With most people stood in a queue for around 20mins. Waiting just for the basics to be put on the servery. It is was that bad for breakfast I would hate to see the lunch time service..

Ordered Gammon steak was not told anything before ordering waited an hour and half still no food. Ended up getting refund and leaving. To say we won’t be back is a massive understatement.

For chain/basic pub grub this was pretty good. I was in a nearby hotel, where the food was inedible - and this ended up being a much better option.

Went for Sunday lunch, arrived and waited whilst several staff passed us by...eventually sat, no instructions where to order etc. Girl at bar then said we could order with her but only carvery not menu items. We were there at 2.30 there were more staff than customers yet we still had to ask someone for service at the carvery, then wait while he found someone else. Food was good, not particularly hot but a fair price so would probably go again.

This is a real shame cos the staff are great, prices are reasonable and the food is nice but this location is dangerously understaffed. We had to queue a long time to be seated on a table we had already booked, no servers available to take our order so had to queue at the bar to place our food order which was a very long wait since there was only one bar person. When the food did come out, it was luke warm so it had to be reheated. I really felt sorry for the staff as they were working non-stop, there just was not enough of them to meet the demand. Management really needs to up the staffing levels. It's not fair on the staff they do have.

Good place to stay and breakfast was first class

Had a meal with two friends this evening, don't know what has happened since Scot left but it has gone down hill. My friends husband steak was just about inedible he left half, my gammon was burned on the underside. Will be a long time before we go back if ever

Usually OK, but booked for 1.30 on a Sunday for Carvery. Long queue at the bar to order drinks/food,only 1 person serving and getting drinks. 2 other staff wandering around doing nothing?! Eventually got served. No choice of meat on carvery - turkey only?! But charged full price. And veg was cold... sad day really. 😞

Went early on 26th December and enjoyed the quietness while exploring the area. Nice place in good location.

Time for a quick update following a visit on a Monday afternoon in June, Still worth the 5 stars. Friendy welcoming staff and great service from start to finish. Well cooked and well presented food. Great value! Called here for dinner on a Wednesday evening in May 2023. Food was all well cooked and well presented, on the whole service was good, although request for side plates for the sharing platter and some mayo to go with the mains were forgotten - but these things happen as it was getting busy and the waitress did apologise. Still great value for money. Called here for dinner on a Friday evening. Good food at reasonable prices. Feb 2023, Following a couple of further visits, things have most definitely improved to the point where I've given back its 5 stars. Friendy and helpful staff, good food and good service. Sometime in 2019....Now time for an update to my original review from around 12 months ago when I gave it 5*. Called here for breakfast on a Saturday morning....£9.50 for an all you can eat buffet breakfast.

Very slow. Lot of the food was not available, wrong desert, and long long wait, food non inspiring.

Zero stars.. paid £216 for Christmas Dinner for 4 people Pre Ordered..beef and gammon &salmon dinners Dinner booked for 4pm - eventually got seated at 4.35 - no cutlery on table, they dressed it whilst we sat there. Ist course yorkie pud /pulled beef came out cold at 5.15 We eventually got our prosseco when we asked for it. Then by the time we got to go out for our mains 6.05 Only turkey left - we don't eat turkey ! Veg was completely cold and over cooked We got offered gammon steak as compensation .. smallest ive ever seen anywhere. Cold plate so it was cold by the time I went for my even colder veg. Deserts ..christmas pud with brandy sauce looked like a school dinner Ice cream sundae fruit frozen solid I accept when you've gone in late in the day that you might well end up with veg thats sat there for a whilst ..but not when you've paid £54 per head. Our Christmas day ruined and managers only answer was a drink on the house. Absolute disgrace!!!

Attended last night and can only describe the food as scrumptious 😋 I originally ordered the club sandwich but to my surprise the Director of Brewers Fayre Mr Daren Clive Lowry came to my table to inform me they had ran out but suggested I went for the smothered chicken burger “I will personally smother it with love and affection” he jokingly assured me, there was definitely some truth to that statement because it felt like love to the taste glands. The ball and chain (the wife lol) went for the Chicken Tikka special which she said felt like she had gone to India and back with every mouthful. Would 100% recommend to all!!!

Stayed at the Premier Inn adjacent to this pub and used it for meals. Firstly, have to say that the quality of the food was very good. However, so many things could be improved. To turn up at any restaurant and be told to take a table and order at the bar isn't really acceptable these days. Especially when there is only one person behind the bar who is taking food orders and drinks orders at the same till. Big queue on both nights we were there which lasted all night. Having waited in queue and ordered food and drinks we were happy enough to be served starters after about 20 minutes. However, we then had to wait around 45 minutes for main course to arrive. This was even more annoying when several tables who had arrived later than us were served their mains (including one table of around 10 customers. This was brought to the attention of the servers several times with no reaction. When food eventually arrived, the quality was very good to be fair, but having waited so long really spoiled the evening. To be fair, after complaining at the bar, one of the senior staff offered a refund of some of the cost which was gratefully received. However the overall experience was so disappointing that we would be very reluctant to eat here again.

Stayed here a lot while working away, the best service especially from Sarah in the Brewers Fayrs! Would highly recommend the stay and the food!

Breakfast was slow and cold, and tasted like it had been heated in the microwave. There were only 2 girls working, they were lovely and worked really hard. Dinner was much better less crowded but more staff.

Had haddocck chips and peas, fish over cooked ( slight burnt taste) very poor meal, will definitley not eat in a brewers fare again.

Definitely worth the money,it wasn't too expensive and the food was worth the wait only waited about 15 minutes even though it was busy.5✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

The food was very good but the service was non existent need lots more staff. Felt really sorry for the youngster who was serving the meals as she was run off her feet. She earns 5 stars along with the one lady serving behind the bar.

Big problems with food poor management restaurant short staffed management went home leaving young staff to cope a hour and ten minutes to get starters

Arrived with my wife around 18.20 and ordered food about 18.30. Sat and waited, after 50 minutes I asked the manager how long the food would be and we were told that our food was being prepared and it would be 10 to 15 minutes. After one and a half hours we asked again and were again told that our food was being cooked and would be another 10 to 20 minutes. The restaurant were still taking orders at this time even though several customers had waited over an hour. We were told that the kitchen was under staffed yet the restaurant was not restricting the amount of customers. The staff really didn't know how to deal with unhappy customers and all they would offer was free drinks or desserts. After waiting a total of one hour forty we demanded our money back.

Generally not a good experience. Staff friendly, but slow service for this type of restaurant. Food quality not good, fish and chips, fish greasy. Mixed grill, meat overcooked, steak well done when asked for rare. Overall not a pleasant meal. And to top it off mixed up bill, paying to much, eventually resolved. In our opinion would not recommend and we will not return. An additional comment, breakfast was a better meal, full english. Well cooked and tasty. Would recommend breakfast. Still doesn't change my score

Came here for a Sunday carvery... let's say we won't be coming back it was that bad

Went today with my mam, the lady who seated us said someone would be along to take our orders. 10 minutes later the same lady took our drink and food order, we asked for 2 refills and 2 mixed grills (well done steak) but after another 10 minutes no sign of drinks. My mam asked another waitress for a diet Coke refill and a normal Coke refill, she brought them over but turns out regular Coke isn't on the refill list, probably our fault there but still a bit disappointing as we'd told the first waitress we wanted 2 refills. Food came out and the steak on my plate was still red in the middle, I didn't ask for it to be sent back because I'm an awkward soul but it put me off a bit, decided I would take it home for the animals instead. Couldn't fault the rest of it but I didn't eat any of the meat on the plate as the blood had put me off. The manager (possibly Jamie?) dealt with our bill, he sorted a takeaway box out for the leftover meat, he asked if everything was okay and my mam told him about my steak being undercooked. He apologised and upon paying when I gave him my buy one get one free voucher he refused to take it as he'd already taken one mixed grill off the bill. Very nice man as we hadn't asked for it taken off, was really pleasantly surprised by the gesture. Gave 4 stars as every other time I've been here I have enjoyed it and Jamie really made up for the experience

Open until 22:30 on a Sunday, turned away asking for a table for 2 at 21:20…only wanted some quick dinner, was staying at Premier Inn next door.

Fantastic food, fantastic service. I recently came back and very much enjoyed my time here. Amy was here and remembered me immediately from my visit 12 months ago. Friendly as she was back then. A credit to her job and employers. Sam was also fantastic and served always with a smile.

REALLY disappointed. We love brewers and thought we would try the new one at Cockermouth to celebrate my wife's birthday. The picture is her steak - apparently this is well done. My wife cannot stomach red steak. Not only that, we had to wait 1 hour for food, which isn't that bad until you start seeing people who arrived AFTER us getting served BEFORE us. Admittedly, server did offer her to have something else for free, sadly she had to eat on her own as my and family meals had come and we had finished! Great celebration meal! Won't be coming to Cockermouth again, Howgate is better.

Popped in to use a two for one voucher with a 12month old, our waitress (Abbi) was so lovely. Super friendly with the baby, attentive with our ordering and checking up with us. Food was the usual from these sort of restaurants, surprisingly good for the cost! Thank you Abbi, we'll see you again soon

Very reasonable food and staff are very attentive, clean and comfortable surroundings.

We went in for breakfast and waited over 10 minutes to be seated because no staff member were about. When seated we hadn’t even looked at the menu and she said that’s £19 please. I said to The staff member why and she said because we ask for payment first before we hand you the menu because people walk out without paying. Which is fine but at least let us look at the menu first before charging us. Every single staff member including the management acted like they didn’t want to be there and when we asked for stuff if was like we’d asked the world. I seen another table being served and when the staff members walked away she was rolling her eyes. One customer went looking for a staff member to ask a question and the staff member didn’t want to know and basically told the customer what they wanted to hear she then when and complained to another staff member about that customer. All staff had disgusting behaviour when it came to customer service. Food wasn’t brilliant either 100% wouldn’t recommended

I will never go back for there again customers service after they took payment from my debt twice was bad get my money back no sorry for there mistake And this after ive spend alot of money there as a family before this.

We booked a table for 12 noon and from the moment we arrived, at 11.45 we were met with very poor customer service, "we can't serve you till 12"was the first words we were greeted with, not good morning and then they were reluctant to let us pick a table of our choice," we will direct you to your table" when we were studying the menu at our table and with every other table free the staff seated a family of 4 adults and two children next to us, we decided to move further along but having sat down to study the menu a man I think called Toni came over literally waving his arms backwards telling us we couldn't sit there, "we're not serving in this section", we paid for our drinks and left. As I paid 'Toni' he made no attempt to explain or apologise just asked if I had a loyalty card, ironic. We went to the Belle Vue for lunch and spent £62 which would have been spent here had we been treated as customers, amazing lack of simple customer service skills and professionalism.

We arrived at approx 12.10pm, welcomed by a young man, shown to table then having explained the service, said he would be back to take order, at the time it was reasonably quiet. After about 10 to 15 mins started to look for someone to take order, no one about. Eventually a lady came to see if we had ordered drinks, no was the reply having waited nearly 40mins. We're not impressed with service, what made matters worse one of our party had to leave as they had to get to work at penrith police station. Meal was OK but today the service was not acceptable. Feel free to respond.

Dreadful. Waited over an hour for our food order to be taken. The staff in the restaurant were kind & helpful. It was the lack of staff that was the problem.

It is what it is, cheap okay food. The drinks and extras are overpriced. The staff are lovely and very helpful. Always very clean.

Absolutely amazing service, friendly, polite, amazing on time quality food, very welcoming, they have managed to find us a table even without appointment. Steak cooked to perfection and the Fish and chips massive quality fish. Well done Highly recommended and very clean and well managed. They ve recommended us the bonus points card too for points! We were here on a Friday evening early December, we made contact early to book a table and were told that the entire evening was pretty much booked up and took an earlier time than we had originally planned for. Upon arriving, shortly before our scheduled time, we found the venue to be quite empty and quiet which was a surprise. We were quickly seated to our table and our order taken, all good so far. But that was where it all changed. It took roughly 20 minutes to get our very basic drinks order, four drinks, two of which were simple refills. It then took a further ten minutes to place our food order. The food order took roughly 40 minutes to arrive and came with no acknowledgement of the wait. After all this time being wasted we were a little unsure about making a dessert order but went ahead with it as a treat for my son, this took another 15 minutes for a couple of rather simple ice creams to arrive. I cant be sure if they were expecting to be busy or were simply low on staff but the venue was in no means full and there was ample room for more guests. The service on this particular evening was slow and quite poor and I dread to think what it would be like on an actual busy day. From a customer perspective there was very little organisation of the staff, no one seemed to be quite sure on what role they were in, be it food service or behind the bar.. enough staff available but no organisation. The food itself was fine, however the portions were quite small in my opinion. Not enough to be considered a meal for most people I would think.

We had two delicious burger, chips, coleslaw meals (2 for under 9 quid), on a plate, with a knife and fork and served by very pleasant staff. Why on earth do people go to places like McDonald's? The stars are for value for money, taste.... and a warm welcome.

Usually a good experience here but not today. We ordered 2 starters which were delivered. Then realised the potato dipper had no dip with it. The server eventually found out there was no dip available but we could have an alternative. Fortunately there was a suitable one available but this should have been sorted before the food was produced. Main course was delivered before we had finished the starters. Ate them surrounded by dirty starter dishes. When bill came we were being charged for 3 starters one of which we had not ordered and did not have. This was queried and corrected. So not a good experience today.

Ordered sharer platter was very nice only fault was soon as we finished our food come out which had obviousley been made just after the platter and been stood ubder a hot lamp.Due to this my burger bun just crumbled into crumbs when i took a bite had to waste the bun and just eat burger sadly aswell chips where cold.I would reccomend in future that when starter is finished the main course is then prepared.Staff where absalputley great friendly very helpfull people.
