We were staying in the hotel in portinscale and popped to the farmers pub a few nights ago and it was very nice food and good beer. I would recommend this pub so I would give 5 stars. The only complaint is I was ignored at the bar for 2 minutes trying to get a drink because the landlord was too busy talking about his Xbox or PlayStation games.

We found the Farmers Arms to be the very essence of the small village pub - it's not trying to be a Bistro or a Wine Bar and nor should it. We received a cheery welcome, good beer and honest, value for money pub food (we enjoyed the fish and chips). If you are staying in the village or nearby give it a try and help save an endangered species - the village pub!

This is easily one of the best pubs I've been to in the Lakes. Cosy pub, great staff & nice food. If you're staying in Portinscale and can't be bothered with the walk into Keswick then you don't need to as this pub has everything you need. We'll definitely be back!

Up here for a week and have been twice (very unusual for us, we like to try new places) because it was superb. Service was friendly and quick (but not too quick!) Beer was lovely - Wainwright Gold on tap always a favourite but tasted specially good. And the food was wonderful. Chicken burger with the most succulent chicken I've ever had out! All cooked to perfection and very generous portions. Nice gentle hum in the bar / restaurant area, just lots of happy people doing their thing. Thank you to the team at The Farmers Arms, great pub!

This pub serves very good food at reasonable prices. I had the steak and ale pie, which was excellent, as well as being the lowest price I saw for this meal over my five nights in the Keswick area. The pub is small and atmosphere is friendly. I’m not sure if this is the only pub in Portinscale, but it’s within walking distance of the various guest houses and hotels, so well worth visiting if you’re in this area.

Travelled 4 hours for a break away in Keswick and came straight to this pub looking forward and expecting some good home cooked pub grub as its a quirky little pub in a little village but how disappointed we were to receive frozen franchise pub grade food like something from a beefeater, also was very cold with no heating at all on, very disappointing and won't be back

Great pub food and reasonable prices. The chef even made changes to the menu i had requested without question. Pub staff are very welcoming. Outdoor space is behind the pub and is a good space to enjoy the weather and views. It's definitely worth a visit after a day walking the hills. Car parking is to left of the pub but is limited. But parking is also available opposite the pub. The local residents are a joy to talk to and helpful on walks and other activities in the area.

A friendly, old fashioned traditional village pub with a perfectly adequate menu, good selection of beers and other drinks and friendly bar staff. The place was fairly full when we arrived at 7pm but we found a pleasant table by the window and enjoyed a tasty, plentiful meal which we found excellent value for money. We would highly recommend The Farmers Arms if you are in the area and want a good meal in pleasant surroundings at a reasonable price.

We have been coming here for a few years and always found it to have a relaxed but welcoming atmosphere. Food has always been good value and staff are welcoming and friendly. However recently we have found the prices for alcohol to be expensive in comparison to other local establishments and compared to our previous visits. The outdoor seating area is great but I do feel the interior is due a refurbishment also.

We came across the village having walked around Derwentwater and then looked up on Tripadvisor for a pub and found the Farmers Arms. We arrived around 3pm hoping for food but the kitchen was closed until 4:30pm. We received such a friendly welcome from the chap behind the bar that we thought we’d stay for a couple of pints anyway. We were still there when the kitchen opened so enjoyed some great quality food too. We are so glad we found this place and will definitely note it as somewhere to return to when in the area in the future. We were returning to Keswick after, which was a lovely 1 mile walk so would definitely recommend this pub as worth the walk for people staying there. A couple more barman/waiters came on shift while we were there and again were friendly and welcoming and a real credit to the place 😄. Oh and dog friendly!

It's rare for me to give a 5 star review, however this place deserves much more than that. I have to be honest when I say that we were not initially planning on going there first. However, given that we needed something last minute, we decided to take a chance and check the Farmers Arms pub. First, the guy working there was more than friendly and that was immediately a reason for us to feel happy for choosing this place. Then the food... I have no words for how amazing my burger was. Juicy, well balanced, and just perfect overall. My partner had the vegetarian chicken pie and it was amazing as well. No matter what, find some space for dessert as the chocolate fudge cake was stellar. Next time in Keswick I'm sure I'll be back. It was a lovely surprise and I can't recommend this place enough.

I've been wanting to visit the farmers for quite some time and was staying in the village for a couple of nights. The first night was a letdown , for some reason, they were unable to serve food that evening. The second night however, food was available, I had the gammon and my wife, hunters chicken, both were excellent. Husband couldn't get served as they were all around the bar, a local said to him "I just want to get to my pint". Eventually we had a good pint but had to sit outside and left and spent our money elsewhere rest of the week. We won't go back sadly as a good local pub to where you're staying is nice.

We stayed here for 2 nights and I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The rooms are large, bright with some spectacular views and those special touches such as little toiletries for your use. The bath in our room was so opulent I could have stayed in there all evening. The dining area is quite niche you can have quiet discreet corners for a romantic evening or more open. The food is excellent- if I had 1 thing to say that was negative, it would be that I wouldn’t have a starter so I could have a dessert, I found each time I did I just didn’t have room to have one! The main thing for me was the staff. The staff quite simply made it for me. NOTHING was too much trouble, they were friendly, welcoming and went above and beyond , yet at the same time let us be. If you want somewhere, where you can be comfortable, away from it all and have excellent accommodation and food this is the place.

Sad to say that our trip there was a a big disappointment when it come to the food. We all had beef, it was dry and chewy. When we talked to the waiter, we have been told that is the way the chef does it. It is a shame that they only sell well done cuts of meat...
