This is a pretty average establishment and looks better from the outside than in . Bit busy and noisy on our visit and food basic . Service good however and if you want a cuppa and cake it’s probably worth a try

Arrived at around 1300 ordered and finally received our drink 30 minutes later. Our food took another 20 minutes to arrive. There were dirty tables all over the place, no explanation of why our food was taking so long. When we left and went to pay, I had to correct the bill as there were extra drinks on it, wrong sandwiches ect. This place use to be fantastic now not sure what’s going on but I won’t be going back anytime soon. Oh Had to use the facilities whilst there and these are needing some attention too.

Called in today whilst killing time for the bus, limited seats downstairs and the one that was available was like a ply board with no cushion so headed upstairs to something more salubrious, service was a bit slow & wasn’t sure if we were meant to approach the counter or it was table service, turned out to be the latter, we only had drinks, they arrived quickly & the waitress was very pleasant, when I used the toilets I advised them of no toilet roll & she went up within minutes so I couldn’t really fault the visit! The cooked food being served had me salivating at it smelt & looked amazing, it was only about half full upstairs as I suspect most people wanted to sit outside!

Very disappointed. Bought some vanilla slices which looked delicious. We waited for ages to be served, the lady serving was incredulous. Never been served by someone so slow ever! The slices were such an anti climax. Dry and hard. If you told me they were a week old I would have belived you.

Very busy but we got seated reasonably quickly. Waited 30 minutes for food. Very average. Chabatta with sweet chilli chicken, chips and salad garnish. Coffee was good. Staff were busy but friendly. There are better places in Keswick. Felt like a cheap canteen. The ladies toilets leave a lot to be desired, desperately need a lick of paint on the grubby doors.

We have always visited for breakfast or lunch when in Keswick. It was particularly quiet today with one member of staff on. Most unusual. Whilst we understand prices have gone up everywhere the prices here are far too expensive. £4.00 for a cappucino. The most I have paid anywhere in Cumbria. I think they have lost customers hence reduced waiting on staff. Shame

I had ham egg and chips really lovely and tasty nice to get proper ham. Had to wait a little bit for the meal but was worth it. I always like to visit here if it is just the bakery part just they do nice food.

We were walking in the area and took the opportunity to buy a couple of filled rolls to take away for lunch. We chose to have two soft brown rolls each with a different filling. Our order was sent to a lady out the back. They duly came, wrapped and ready to go. Unfortunately, when we opened them, not only were the rolls dry, verging on stale, one of the fillings was not what we had ordered. And for £11, it was daylight robbery. Won’t return.

Having passed many times and thinking it looked very nice, we eventually tried Bryson’s for brunch.Outside seating is self service (you go into the shop, queue and make your order and take out your food/drink on a tray). This was my second disappointment as I dislike self service. I only found out upstairs is table service when I overheard a member of staff tell another customer after we had placed our order. My first disappointment was the slightly off hand gentleman server when we arrived. I do appreciate they, like most places in the Lakes, are extremely busy and under pressure. My third disappointment was the food. I had a scone and my husband a sausage roll. Both were ‘commercial’ products. I shouldn’t be surprised at that, as Bryson’s is a commercial bakery. The pastries and fresh cream products on the shop counter did look nice, but that was too much for me, mid morning. Maybe later in the day!I am afraid though, given my disappointments, we are unlikely to return.

We went to Bryson cafe, Keswick yesterday with family (1 Sept 2021) with a hope to get some lovely food. It was Really overpriced but we didn't mind as we expected some good quality food, service and presentation! Ordered scones (advertised freshly baked in the menu) but was not even a bit more than bought from tesco honestly. Pathetic crockery with stains..and well bless the cold staff.. We'll never ever be returning to this overhyped overpriced cafe, such a waste of money and morning!

We were really looking forward to visiting here after seeing it online. We expected it to be similar to Betty's of Harrogate. We ordered fruit cake with a wedge of local cheese and chutney. When it came it was a piece of fruit cake and 2 small thin slices of cheese!!! It was definitely not a wedge very disappointing. Cups and saucers were discoloured in side with tea stains. I don’t understand the popularity of the cream teas at Bryson’s. It said ‘large freshly baked scone’ on the menu but it definitely wasn’t freshly baked. It wasn’t the homemade crumbly scone I was hoping for. More like a factory baked frozen and THEN baked scone. Very breast and very disappointing. Luckily my husband enjoyed his fruit cake a bit more.

Bryston’s do some lovely food. The issue is the service though. And this isn’t a one off experience. This time we had to wait a long time for a table, a long time to attract someone’s attention to get served, and then quite a wait to be served. We were first served with dirty cups and cutlery. When my cheese scone arrived after this, the waitress barely even looked at us or the table but just shoved the plate down. I know they’re busy and the food is good, but surely a smile or two and a bit of customer service wouldn’t be too much to ask?

However on this occasion when we arrived a little after 9am and about to enter we were told by a young lady in a most unpleasant way that we couldnt go in, and that they were not open yet, when asked what time they opened she angrily replied i dont know, when we've done this. We called in on a day trip to Keswick and sat upstairs, we were found a table quite swiftly but then heard, throughout our visit, that one of the members of staff seemed to find it quite a pleasure to bark at new customers telling them to wait. Not pleasant, we weren't sure if there was a manager on the floor but hospitality and customer service does not need to be like that at all.It was chilly upstairs, food ok. Stopped for tea and a scone, nice to sit outside in the sun and be served by a friendly and helpful waitress. The tea was good but the scone was nowhere near the quality you might expect from a 'craft bakery'. It would be nice, too, to see this popular place leading from the front and doing away with all the individual plastic-wrapped jam and cream portions that seem so out of kilter today. Our main concern, though, was with the almost complete lack of awareness of how to clean and sanitise properly after successive customers. We sat for around 45 minutes, and noticed that although the table surfaces were cleaned after each use, the menus (left on the tables each time) and chairs were left uncleaned. As the waitresses were moving the chairs and menus as they cleared between customers, and not sanitising their own hands, any table cleaning was rendered ineffectual, and laying out tea trays became a potential risk.Suggest some additional training needed.

I’m fairly sure that the staff member who served me today, didn’t want to be there. I asked for a cheese sandwich, on a granary roll, the sullen response was “just if I’ve got one...”. We have been regulars in the establishment for many years, myself and my husband and often other family members frequently made the trip from carlisle to visit the tearoom upstairs and were on friendly terms with many of the staff. We visited at the weekend after the refurbishment to find the tearoom upstairs was full, there was however a spare table in the new seating area downstairs which we ended up using. We went to order at the counter and the person taking our order was almost robotic, very sharp, no friendliness whatsoever, and continued to stare straight ahead out through the window during the whole transaction. We received our food, I ordered a sandwich for my elderly mother, which turned out to be a tea cake which she struggled to eat, we ordered a hot baguette with turkey and stuffing which would have required cutlery and guess what, no cutlery, as I approached the counter I was told to join the queue which by now was at the door, I said no, and that I needed cutlery, I was very abruptly handed 3 sets of cutlery but no napkins. Upon inspection of our receipt we found that we had been over charged for the 2 specials, they were advertised at £6.95 but we were actually charged £7.95, we didn’t bother to raise this with the staff due to the queue and the attitudes previously. I have given this review 2 stars simply because the food was actually really nice. A small minority of personnel in an establishment like this can ruin a previously good reputation, we will look elsewhere for lunch on our next visit to Keswick which is unfortunate as during these difficult times I imagine you would appreciate the repeat custom but clearly not.

Arrived after midday, had to interrupt staff who were chatting amongst themselves. (Understandable, there was no one else around at that time, but they didn’t stop speaking even after I’d stood for a minute.Tables were unsanitised and covered in crumbs, but we were expected to seat ourselves anyway. When we went inside to order, the cashier told us quite matter of factly that we couldn’t order from the inside menu as we were seated outside, which was perfectly fine but not signposted anywhere, and to top it all off non of the staff who wore masks had them covering their noses, and we had to ask them to cover their faces correctly each time they spoke to us. The woman who literally put our food on the table even tried to tell us that it didn’t fit properly so she couldn’t wear it over her nose! Other staff wore visors, so why not her too? Quiche was good, they had run out of a lot of items even though it wasn’t even 2pm yet! Only redeeming quality was the lovely heat lamp outside. Wish we hadn’t wasted our time!

Visita a Keswick y esperamos visitar salones de té. Ajetreado sábado por la tarde, el cartel dice que los salones de té están cerrados Como otras personas mencionaron varias colas para la tienda y la cafetería. No covid Marshall.

As it was raining we decided to eat inside on the first floor tea room and as opposed to al fresco on the street. We were able to chose a window table and ordered tea, cappuccino and a portion of strawberry flan to share. The food and drink were very good and served promptly, the staff were friendly ( in their smart Brysons outfits) and the tearoom and toilets were clean and tidy. The bill came to £10.50 and so good value for money.Worth a visit if you are staying / visiting Keswick.

Visited for lunch having just arrived in the lakes for a long weekend. Ordered a soup and sandwich which was served on cheap brown bread with an tired looking salad for £9.75. For that price I expected more, coupled with the price of the drinks added up to a £27 lunch which when you look at what was served was a complete rip off. Everything requested seems to come with an extra charge in this place so beware. We bought some scones to take away and for the price even these were not anything to write home about. Plenty of better options in Keswick.

Lovely breakfast food on offer. Omelette was my choice which was very tasty. Nice decor and tables spread out enough for you to relax (re: Covid). Would come again.

We nipped in here for a snack whilst in Keswick. We waited to be seated, as per the sign, but the two ladies running the place completely ignored us - I could see they were busy but even a "Hi, be with you in a few minutes" would have sufficed.Once we'd 'made contact', been seated & our order taken things got a lot better very quickly.Food was okay, but a couple more staff who aren't averse to actually greeting customers would make a huge difference.

On a Sunday morning this was a good choice for breakfast in the area. Service was slow with only two people running the tea room area and there was a bit of a muddle with our order. Food was slightly pricy but in keeping with the Lake District area. Food was excellent and I had the vegetarian breakfast which was lovely. Recommend trying the plum bread too!

Bryson's Tea Room perfect for a mid-day snack. Had the Ham & Cheese toastie - one of the best I have ever tasted, fab. Cake selection so tempting and impossible to resit, so go one try one (or two) you won't be disappointed.

On a day trip to Keswick we called into Brysons for something to eat. The upstairs tea room was full and had a queue so we chose to find a table in the downstairs cafe area. It was completely unorganised downstairs with 2 queues going on at once and people not knowing which one to join. After queuing for 10 minutes in a queue we realised that it was take out only and we needed the other one. There were no signs telling us this and and also 3 different members of staff asked us if we were taking away and still didn't ask us to move queues. There were several other people behind us in the same position. Once in the correct queue it took 10 minutes to get to the front despite only 2 people before me. The person on the till appeared not to be familiar with it and took around 2 minutes to type in 2 ham salad sandwiches. Then it took a further minutes for the price (not a clue if it was user error or a technology issue) I sat down with the drinks and cakes and the 2 sandwiches came quite quickly but only one with salad. How this happened I have again no clue of it was typed in as 2 ham salad sandwiches. They were very nice and so were the cakes. Another member of our group ordered straight after me and again got slow service. They checked his sandwich order with him after he sat at the table which was good as it was also incorrect. It took 20 minutes for the sandwiches to arrive and they were wrong. They were sent back and queues up for a refund (which again took an age) overall we were very disappointed at the service and can't believe how poor the staff were as they were blaming each other for the mistakes. If in Keswick again we will be avoiding here!!!!

We called in Bryson’s in Cockermouth for a coffee and cake at 2.50pm and we’re told the cafe closed at 3.00pm, but that we were in time. The woman who served us couldn’t have been more hostile and unfriendly, and as we were the only ones in there, there was absolutely no atmosphere at all. I had a pot of tea that held one cup and an eclair, my wife had a latte and a baked slice of Tiffany. They were good but no better than anywhere else. I’m sure with the amount of choice along Main Street, it won’t be hard to find somewhere better than here, somewhere where they’ll appreciate your custom too.

We had a little time to kill and popped in to view the cakes and upon seeing the scones we had to give them a go! Hot chocolates, tea cakes and both fruit and cheese scones were ordered & we were not disappointed. Nicest tasting fruit scone I’ve had. Other half had the cheese scone which came with some cheese and chilli sauce. He enjoyed that tooAll the staff were working hard with the new covid systems in place. Really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back when we return to Keswick

We ate upstairs in the tea room, so light and airy, felt very safe and comfortable. We shared a cheese sandwich, which was brought out on two separate plates complete with individual side salad - a very nice and thoughtful touch. Then we had a fruit scone with jam each and a pot of tea. Absolutely delicious! All of the staff were so friendly too. A delightful place!

Well what can i say.haveing paid just over £20 for 2 teas and 2 toasties the service was ridiculous!!! I placed my order with the miserable older lady who said she would bring it outside to our table when ready.she then went on to serve at least another 10 customers before she made our toasties.. 30mins later our cremated toasties was still sat in the machine!! I went back in and asked the young lady where the toasties are which i ordered 30mins ago and she replied "oh here they are...i have found them"!!! I will NEVER return here or recommend.please spend your hard earned money across the road as at least you get your order promptly and served with a smile

EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENTservice was welcoming and personable (and we felt a bit conscious in our slightly messy walking gear), the lady welcoming us in was lovely (6th July at 2pm).The table overlooking Main St was lovely and ideal to watch the world go by after an 8 mile walk.Let’s get onto the important stuff - the food! I had pie of the day and real chips and peas and onion gravy and a pot of tea. 11/10. My wife had the beef sarny and chips. Both fabulous and excellent value for money and much better than other places we ate. Thanks for the lovely, great quality and enjoyable visit. Will come again next time, maybe more than once during the trip.

There doesn't seem to be an entry for the Cockermouth Bryson's Bakery and Tea Room, so I will enter it against the Keswick branch, as it's the same company. ( The Cockermouth Bryson's is on the left hand side of Main St).I visited the Cockermouth Bryson's today as due to coronavirus, I haven't been able to eat out for 4 months and was in Cockermouth today and decided to try the cafe. Due to coronavirus restrictions, the shop only allows two people in at a time and there was a slight wait before I was called forward to the eating area. Also you need to register your personal details in case of COVID 19.I ordered a chorizo and chicken panini and medium cappucino, which came to £ 7.40, probably average for Cockermouth these days. The service was prompt and friendly, which id always a bonus. Coffee was decent enough, but the panini was full of decent sized chunks of chicken and chorizo slices with some cheese and worth the £ 4.70. Also you get a small salad to go with the panini, which consisted of a decent dollop of coleslaw, lettuce and onions.I'll recommend Bryson's Tea Room to anyone who is visiting Cockermouth as this was my first time and I was impressed.

We have visited Bryson's on many occasions over the years and although the decor following refurbishment is perhaps, not to everyone's taste, the food and service remains high. The staff are always pleasant and happy to have a chat and the food is very tasty. Although there are plenty of other places to have a snack in Keswick, Bryson's is our favourite.

Nice airy decoration, however nothing very special and in a town where every other shop is an eating establishment they need to work harder. Staff were polite but not friendly. The scone, despite being made on the premises felt like it was mass produced and the Diet Coke was served without ice and flat. Ok, but not great.

We have eaten at Brysons many times over the years. This was our visit since the refurbishment. Although it has lost some of it's dated character it is bright and inviting. The plum bread cheese and chutney sandwiches were delicious. The restaurant was very quiet, as was the town an I would be interested to see how the service is when it is busy. We would recommend it.

Have called in at Bryson every time we go to Keswick , what a disappointment this time where has all the character gone , there were three staff behind counter but I think we must have been invisible to them as we were completely ignored as two of them were talking directly in front of us , we have been served by the older gentleman before and find him so unfriendly . Sadly I think we will have to find somewhere else now for our coffee

Been served by some older lady today and she was so rude and angry . Don’t think she wanted to be there at all . Take away soup and panini plus danish 12 pounds all served in soaked full of fat bag . If you guys as a company making decision to start selling take away sandwiches maybe you also should invest in some take away boxes ?

Brysons has had a complete makeover since our last visit in May 2019. It has lost its old unique charm and now has the same cramped atmosphere and colour scheme of a supermarket cafe anywhere. Tables so close together we walked straight out.Next day we returned to buy a Simnel cake. There were some cut slices on display but no complete cakes. When we asked at the counter we were met by a blank stare. “We have Christmas cake. What is Simnel cake?” We left empty handed. It is as if new owners have taken over and do not have a clue about running the business. Sad.

Was looking forward to seeing the newly refurbished tea room as we were pleased with what they have done with the bakery downstairs. But.. what a disappointment. The walls are completely bare, the layout tight and squashed together tables. The actual tables themselves uninspired and utilitarian. Also the crockery-just white and boring. The food-absolutely fine as usual. An opportunity missed. Also noticed they closed it to customers around 1:30/2:00pm, apparently because they had run out of plates and cups. I hope it improves.

We stopped by in the morning for a sausage, bacon and egg roll and mocha. We sat outside as it was a but tight indoors for more than a couple of people. The food was decent. A nice runny egg and tasty sausage and bacon. Well-filled as well. The mocha was ok. Not the best I've had but passable on a cold day to wash down the roll. Not a bad little place where I'd happily go again for the breakfast roll.

Amazing find! Ate here last night after staying in Rosthwaite and having limited options as we had not booked anywhere in advance. We were greater by really friendly staff, a cosy informal atmosphere and a great menu. I am usually a bit dubious about pub fish and chippy, usually preferring to go to an actual chippy, but WOW! They were amazing! We were both really impressed. Great portions after a day walking in Borrowdale and so so tasty. Good range of beers on tap too.

Have visited this cafe previously and had no complaints and had a good experience. Unfortunately when we visited today it was disappointing. We both had the Sunday Roast dinner we have had before on other occasions but this time it was lukewarm even the gravy and it was not enjoyable. The roast potato was watery and looked insipid, the mash potato watery and lumpy. The peas served were out of a tin and the meat which was turkey was cold. The person who served us at the till was not engaging and since we paid £27.45 for the two dinners I feel it was poor value and would be reluctant to go again.
