The hidden jewel of traditional public houses. Great atmosphere amazing selection of fine ales and ample parking. 😎and to the best of my knowledge no noisy gaming machines. 10/10

Sadly, a very disappointing Mother’s Day lunch. Busy, but have known it busier, as have dined here several times before, so no excuse for the poor service we received. Food has always been good in the past, which has made up for the unwelcoming couple of staff who take the orders. However, this time was the final straw. Felt treated as though our presence was an inconvenience and they were doing us a favour. Poor attitude from start to finish. Long wait for mediocre food, then advised to leave asap for next reservation, which didn’t turn up anyway. We accommodated by ordering our desserts as a takeaway (cake etc). Lost order twice. Waited patiently another half an hour. Lots of young, inexperienced staff, with no sense of urgency or customer service skills, with only one manager/supervisor taking orders. We were polite and patient and rewarded by surly attitudes, irritated at our audacity at wanting to dine there and treat our Mum to a nice lunch. Will not be returning, as spoilt a special occasion.

It is in my line of work to write reviews and reports. And in this line of work I have never been so stunned and filled with disappointment at having to write this review and subsequently my report regarding Valero Lounge, Witham. My concerns are not about the food which in itself is actually great with plenty of options including gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan. Although with one member of staff you are likely not to receive your exact order. My complaints are with the staff who initially appear extremely polite, nice and friendly on the surface and then with no apparent reason or explanation are completely off and rude. Overall I have found the staff unprofessional and immature. And the whole experience has left me feeling sick, undervalued as a customer and highly unwelcomed.

Awfully sticky tables with old chewing gum underneath and god knowx what on top. Tired stained furniture and staff more interested in chatting than serving or cleaning. Food was mediocre which was underwhelming because it took 45 mins to arrive. Check your bill. They tried to charge us £50 for a breakfast a roll and two coffees. [about £20s worth]. I'd hate to see to go there when they were busy. Or in fact ever again

A local Rayne pub. A sunny position.good range of drinks and non alcohol beer. The Sunday roast was mouth watering and everything on the plate was tender. I had turkey, he had pork and turkey ,even the crackling was to die for.. gravy perfect. A large dinner, we both left some veg as such a big dinner Yorkshires perfect. As were roasties. Broccoli, cauli, parsnips, carrots, red cabbage. No room for dessert. Will be back for definite. A lovely atmosphere. Very nice staff, polite and courteous. Also a dog friendly place. There is a garden too with seating .very friendly. .Ample parking.

This was a brilliant traditional cafe supplying a good selection of reasonably priced English style breakfast and lunches, I was a regular punter. They closed a couple of months ago for a refurb and are now about to re open so I stopped by to check out the new menu. Oh dear, oh dear, it seems they have all gone a bit "Champagne Socialist" while they have been closed. The prices make no sense, instead of, say, £7.20 the menu says it as "7.2" Why? It's hard to find a breakfast without flippin Haloumi included! Why do I want squeaky rubber with my fried egg?? When you find a decent breakfast on the menu it's £11.90!!! (11.9 in their money) and that includes 1 slice of "sourdough toast", no drinks though. So by the time I add a coffee I'm going to be paying upwards of 16 quid for a fried breakfast (16.0 apparently), and I'll still only get one slice of poxy "sourdough" (yuk) I'm sure some of the Wickham Bishops Massiv will pop in from time to time but at these prices you've probably lost your core customers, the oldies, families and workers. And as for Halloumi on a fried breakfast, what's all that about eh?

Went for Sunday lunch and ordered roast beef and asked for it to be cooked pink, the waitress said it will be served rare, waited and a waiter turned up with very well done meat, we said we ordered rare, he went back to the kitchen only to return with the same put it on the table to say that’s all we have!!!!!!!!!! An older man appeared and blamed the young waiter, we then got up and walked out as nothing else was offered, never go to this pub with staff attitude like that because they don’t care about customers, worst pub experience ever😡😡😡😡😡
