I just want to share this again... If you are looking for a laugh and a bit of fun, avoid this place. The punters are funny IF they talk to you. The bar staff are basically children with 0% personality. Maybe if you go there when they are rarely busy, you might find someone interesting to talk to. If not, the staff are indifferent and boring af... Not a great pub. Head down the road to The Swan instead... Don't bother with The Welsh Princess...

Visited here to see a great local band City Sounds and although this was our 1st visit here it definitely will not be the last. It's situated on the main road so access is very easy and simple to find. It looks tiny from the outside but has a real 'TRdis' feel about it. The place was quite busy but a space was opened up at the bar and we were greeted warmly by the bar staff and ordered our drinks. The prices were quite reasonable with a pint and a short coming in at just under £8. The atmosphere was pleasant and we could see it was a friendly local pub with a happy vibe. Although we had not eaten there the menu for bar meals seemed to be the nice usual favourites at very reasonable prices. Overall it was a positive experience from start to finish and can very much give a solid 5 stars to them, well done all round team.

We are moving to rayne soon. My mother in law lives next door to the pub. She told us about the live music so we went as a family. We booked a table and decided to have dinner. The staff were very friendly and very fast service. The food was cheap and of great quality. The seating was set out to so it met with the covid rules. The live music was amazing. We had a very chilled afternoon here. Recommend trying the pub. Looking forward to our next visit.

Very nice village pub with friendly staff

Don’t attend this pub the owner is rude from the moment we walked in. We sat at the table the entire evening, wore masks when we went to the bathroom. There was a group of boys who were moving between tables all talking loud, a girl came and joined their table even though she came with different people and then I got asked to leave even though these lads spoke to me and my husband and then told your going to get me in trouble and after saying I haven’t done anything was told you should of told them not to talk to you. Covid rules were massively broken by others not myself and yet the owner let them stay and told me to leave.

Such a lovely pub! It’s clearly had a recent refurb (looks nothing like the picture on here) Great atmosphere, pool table and dart board towards the back of pub. Child and dog friendly. Staff were really helpful, they brought over a water bowl for my dog and a few biscuits. Will definitely be returning.

Lovely garden perfect for a late summers drink. Lots of tables and umbrellas and a small play area for the kids. Outside toilets, BBQ area and covered seating too. Lots of parking and just off the flitch way for a cheeky drink after a walk.

Since the new owners Tracy and Scott took over recently food is being served. All day!. I had a homemade Creamy chicken and bacon carbonara which was really nice, very well priced. And my father had a all day breakfast, who said was really good. Well worth a visit.

Horses for courses. The evening I visited, the pub wasn't busy, but the other customers were quite noisy. The pub does televise sports for those that want it, and they regularly have good, live music. A handy, local pub, but not quite got the cosiness and character I like in a country pub. Update - April 2019 - the pub will soon be under new management, so it will be interesting to see whether any changes are made.

Out of the two pubs this was at our visit the quietest , it seems to rely on late drinkers, plus on our visit one of the ales was of and the staff seemed uncertain as to if it was or not ( though to our tastes it was of). After a couple of minutes debating we was offered a alternative .

Visited twice in 2 weeks second time was in the hope that there would be decent customer service this time round I was sorely mistaken absolutely awful shan’t be returning here until the current owners eventually leave which shouldn’t be long at this rate the Staff were extremely rude send them to get some customer service skills because they are so rude!!

Popped in here on a Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised. Hobgoblin on pump which is always a bonus!! Good friendly atmosphere and staff. Great country village location. Would recommend.

The staff were warm and friendly and the 15 min wait was acceptable for freshly cooked food. The homemade steak and kidney pie was tasty but the extra gravy that we asked for was very poor with little taste. The mustard was I am pleased to report was Coleman's as I think they do the best mustard around. The pie came with the usual puff of wind and I was pleased that the pie didn't come in an earthenware bowl that so often burn my fingers as I scoop out the contents. The carrots were just about acceptable but the broccoli was overcooked. Although I have rated this meal as average, it would take only a few detailed changes to improve the rating to very good.

Had 2 wonderful young ladies running this place for last few months, they came and changed the whole place. They managed to get rid of the awful smell which had previously kept me away. They started a great new menu so I had somewhere to go at lunch time. Now I find they have left. Let's hope you put a decent team in and not let it slide back to the way it used to be.

My local, recently under new management and slowly being renovated. Food is excellent with locally baked fresh huffers on the menu along with many fresh dishes on offer. Landladies and staff are very helpful and friendly and premises very clean and tidy with ample parking. Go visit you won't be disappointed!!

My local, under new ownership and just revamped the kitchen and starting doing food again. Food is wonderful, great burgers, steak and amazing huffers. Go, you will not be disappointed. 😋

I have visited the Welsh Princess a couple of times now and found it to be a lovely little village pub. Now, when I normally enter a pub like this (when I say "like this" I mean an 'old school' proper no nonsense/no gimmick pub) I usually would expect it to be good for a drink, but not food. This pub is different. They have a decent menu with all the favourites you would expect from a pub menu, plus a few cool extras. The food is also clearly freshly made and not quickly zapped in the microwave etc. I've had food here twice - first time we had a roast dinner which I have to say was bloody amazing (2 different meats and seriously crunchy roast potatoes!). Second time we had a few 'bar snacks' ranging from chicken drummers (with a crispy coating!), to fries with different sauces. All very good! Decent selection of beers & ales too for a small pub so all good on that front. I noticed a previous review saying that the place seemed outdated compared to a 'gastro pub'...but that, I would argue, is the point. If I'm in the mood to go to a 'gasto pub' where the food and drink will be decent but would cost an arm & a leg then I would go to one. If if want to go to an actual, normal 'pub' that, as a bonus, also had great food and drink but at also at a good price and a chilled out atmosphere then I'll continue to come to pubs like The Welsh Princess. Would recommend locals and people driving through Rayne / Braintree to try out this hidden gem of a pub for a drink and also some grub!

For a village pub its terrible. Outdated compared to other more modern gastro type pubs. Feels uncomfortable when you go in cause you're not a local. Lovely village, shame about the pub. Has stopped us from moving here!!
