Great food,brilliant service in an amazing location. Best place around we don’t go out much but when we do it’s normally henny swan

Love the Henny Swan, Food always reliably fabulous. I had the smoked haddock and leek tart starter today, with salad and new potatoes.... Heaven! Staff are lovely and so welcoming. Family lunch, dinner for two, drinks with friends, or bar snacks and a pint around the fire with the dogs after a long walk. The Henny Swan ticks all the boxes.

We enjoyed a couple of drinks in the garden, before moving to an outside restaurant table. We sat around the side, so were able to make the most of the evening sun which was lovely. We ordered the Chicken Ceasar Burger, which is a new item on the main menu and it was delicious. It came with extra ceasar dressing in a pot, which was so tasty and not too garlicky, and was great as a dip for our chips too. We absolutely love The Henny Swan. There is always something tasty to eat from light snacks to a full meal, which suits all budgets. The service is always quick and the staff are really friendly and welcoming. Add to this the most scenic location, it is a place we return to again and again. Thank you for a great afternoon 😃

Came on the boat from Sudbury on a cold damp day and delighted to see the lovely fire in the pub.! Food and service were both excellent. Staff friendly and helpful. Lamb and fish delicious. Will be back!!

Great food. I had the fish of the day battered fish and chips - the batter was fresh as well as the fish, the chips nice and piping hot, a generous pot of tartar sauce. They kindly made me a decaffe liqueur coffee as well. I tried a bite of the lemon meringue cheesecake which tasted light and divine. We were seated quickly. Food was prompt and the service was friendly. The atmosphere is nice; open layout with beautiful thick wood tables, cozy wood fires and a cute outside eating area (sadly raining on the day of eating). Set in a really stunning area, too. Decent value. Main and a drink came to slightly under £20 which is good considering the portion size! I'll be coming back here soon.

We found this pub via Google after finding ourselves in Sudbury and not liking any of the pub options there. This is a PROPER pub. As soon as you walk in you get that gorgeous smoky smell from the fireplace and the general atmosphere is just so warm and welcoming. The staff at this pub are friendly and accommodating. We get nervous sometimes bringing our son to lunch with him being young but we were greeted without worry and highchair provided. They also have a baby changer which is a welcome addition. The food itself was really tasty. Can recommend the brisket. We had two mains, shared a dessert and had starters and two drinks plus a coffee and it came to just over £50 so brilliant value for money for the quality you get. There is ample parking, camping & a river nearby. We would definitely drive an hour to visit here again!

Great food and very pleasant staff. They looked after our whole group really well. I picked the Henny Swan for our celebration because every time I'm in the area I eat there and I know you can rely on a great meal in amazing and picturesque surroundings.

This is a fantastic food experience unlike any other pub in the area. The food and the service is fantastic with a beautifully decorated bar and restaurant area. The menu changes regularly and has specials on every day and ranges from superb fish n chips to venison , duck, steak and chicken. Fantastic place EVERY TIME.

Always a pleasurable experience and welcome awaits at the Henny Swan. Life and demands on 'social excursions" are many so we only manage to visit 4-5 times a year but every time we come away we always comment to ourselves that we should visit more frequently!! If you're in search of a warm welcome with good food then the Henny Swan won't disappoint.

The Henny Swan has the freshest most seasonal ever changing menu you will ever have the pleasure of experiencing. The venue , the food and the staff are simply superb. Sandra and myself had valentines dinner last night and could have simply stayed there forever .

This is the best pub food experience around. This is not your average food , it is top notch food at a very affordable price, the menu changes regularly and has never disappointed . The staff are fantastic and the pub / surroundings themself are so relaxing

We've had several lovely meals here and highly recommend. Friendly and efficient service - careful with allergies. Menu usually includes burgers, a steak and fish & chips, and then a small variety of interesting dishes that vary monthly, plus daily specials. Food is beautifully presented and great quality.

I often come to the swan for dinner as it i my favourite place to eat. The reasons being, the great food, and friendly service, (and it is also dog friendly). On this occasion i was here for a wake following a funeral. Tracy and her team provided a wonderful finger buffet. The quality and presentation was excellent and all the guests commented on how good it was. You really did us proud. Thankyou, everybody at the swan for making what was a challenging day so much easier.

We were staying in a cottage nearby and decided to walk to this pub every night for dinner. A decent torch and good footwear recommended. Ate there 3 nights on the trot and the food/ wine were always great. Friendly service and a lovely fire. Highly recommended.

Nice country pub in lovely setting, accessed by narrow country lanes. Not very busy on the night we visited shortly before Christmas. Would have been nice to see a larger range of tap beers. Service was prompt, friendly and professional. Food was ok. My fish (cod) and chips was bland. It was overcooked and a bit mushy, frozen perhaps?

The pub is in a fantastic location with very picturesque surroundings. We visited with my mum and were looked after brilliantly by all the staff. The food was fantastic and presented to a very high standard. We all enjoyed our visit and will definitely go there again the next time we are in the area.

Had lunch here today for my husband’s birthday. What a lovely place. The food was top notch, and great friendly service. Honestly the best veggie roast I’ve had. Really well cooked and bursting with flavour. The decor is tasteful but welcoming and cosy, with really nicely done traditional Christmas decorations. Two log burners made it somewhere we could have easily whiled away a good few hours.

This was my first visit to The Henny Swan and I was amazing by the delicious food! The festive menu was available and all three courses were superb. Highly recommended and I shall be returning - thank you!

Visited here on a recommendation when spending a weekend in Sudbury and it certainly didn't disappoint. There was a warm and friendly atmosphere and the service was excellent. We only had lunch and the food was delicious and I can highly recommend the rum and raisin cheesecake, I'm still thinking about it 3 days later. If you are visiting the Sudbury area I would highly recommend this pub, I'm sure the locals already know how good it is.

What a lovely place. Friendly, relaxed service. Delicious food (roast dinners were fab, even the veggie option). Good selection of drinks. Comfortable chairs and a big enough table! Not once did we feel rushed or hurried or that they needed our table for the next booking. Really nice experience. Nice location that would even better on a nice day. We will be back.

I organised a group camp and paddle, staying at the campsite next door, the day the storm hit…. Not much paddling so plenty of time spent in the pub, snacks bar snacks on the Friday and dinner in the lovely restaurant on the Saturday, with plenty of drinks in between 😀 All of my group were saying this morning as we packed up what a wonderful pub this is, open fire, great smells, great atmosphere, super staff and how lovely our evening meal was. All of my group are excited about coming back again. Sorry for dropping a huge bottle of vape oil on the bar floor!!! A brilliant couple of days, THANKYOU

We go to the Henny Swan regularly, and the reason for that is, we are never disappointed, low-key, but attentive service, excellent food and always a nice atmosphere in a property that is clearly cared for, the only one thing I would change is to make it easier to get a booking, but this is a sign of the Henny Swan success!

Took the boat trip from the Quay Theatre to the Heeny Swan for Sunday Lunch on our Anniversary along with what was my best man and his wife and we really enjoyed the whole experience. Because we had booked in advance and informed them we were coming on the boat we were served very quickly. The staff were excellent in every way, and nothing was too much trouble, so excellent service. The food was very good and well presented and you didn't have to wait too long for it to be delivered to our table. The dining room was well set out with amazing views from the large windows. All in all a lovely day out, and I would highly recommend the Henny Swan to anybody.

Having been very pleased with the service and menu choices at the Henny swan previously ,I decided to use it for a celebration birthday meal for my visiting son ( 60th birthday),his partner and myself .We had a very satisfying lunchtime meal on a Monday , sitting outside as the weather was excellent for late September and the menu choice did not disappoint. The positioning of the Swan by the river is good ,all the servers extremely willing and friendly and I feel it was an excellent celebration. Parking in the overflow carpark is good, we make a point of arriving very early but the road frontage is usually full even then .

The Henny Swan is situated in a great location, far from the maddening crowd but with a quiet buzz all of its own. The staff are very friendly and helpful We had a group of 11 and everyone enjoyed the experience. We were given a separate corner so we could laugh without disturbing the quiet diners. The food has the taste and feeling of someone taking a lot of care over it and there were delicious vegetarian options too. We ended up staying until the place was empty, but never a frown or grumble from the team Very recommended.

This was a great little find whilst picking up a table from Facebook marketplace in Suffolk. I believe we were very close to the border of Suffolk, in an idillic village called Great Henny, hence the name. The staff were super friendly, however it might be good to book in advance as we nearly didn’t get a table, they take only a few walk-ins, and we were lucky enough to get one. The staff were also very attentive, quickly taking our order for drinks and then our food order when we were ready. The food was simple, but well put together. I had the Mac and Cheese bites, followed by the Lamb Duo, like I said it was simple, but it was presented nicely and well thought out, like puréed mint peas with the lamb and shavings of cheese on the watercress with the Mac and cheese. If your interested as well, just opposite it looked like you could hire kayaks to mozy on down the canal. We went for a nice little dog walk just down the road as well, across a field that overlooks the pub from the otherside of the canal. Finally the toilets were basic but clean, if you read my other posts you will see this is an important factor to any venue for me.

Booked The Henny Swan for a special celebratory lunch for my daughter’s 21st and wow, they pulled out all the stops. The location, as always, is stunning - the bar area is cosy, yet modern and welcoming and the restaurant is spacious, modern and the perfect ambience. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and were super efficient, but never intrusive. The service was relaxed, no pressure but yet everything ran super smoothly. The food was excellent - lovely choice and presentation was outstanding. All in all, an absolute gem of a place - will definitely be returning again soon.

Mum. My brother and I pop along to the Henny Swan pub for an afternoon drink.. quite amazing to see so many people with canoes and kayaks enjoying the river.

We had planned a trip on the Stour on SUP/Kayak and a meal in The Henny Swan. You can launch directly from the beer garden of the pub for a £5 launch fee however as we had booked to eat we didn’t need to pay.. result 👍 we were with friends who hadn’t booked dinner BT they managed to accommodate all 5 of us at very short notice. The food was superb, especially the pork belly. Polite and proficient service all evening. Highly recommended kayak and food evening.

I came and visited the pub as we were new and was using the boat hire. There were many empty tables and plenty of staff but was turned down in having a meal before our boat trip. There was a lady long greish hair with glasses turned 2 guest away and said were not taking walk ins due to short staff but contradicted herself by saying we want to give the best service by turning away guests. But sat a gentleman that had walked in just infront of us. Wasn't much impressed for our first visit

We only stop in for a quick drink and bowl of chips but as always, staff were great and very helpful and cider was lovely in the sun.

Had a truly shocking experience at this pub this afternoon. Serving beer in plastic glasses because they can't be bothered to wash up. Serve the kids plastic glasses by all means but I'm 60 years old dressed very smartly and I do no appreciate your my drink bring served in plastic. I did complain to the girl behind the bar but I may as well have just spoken to a brick wall. Shocking...

River opposite with launch access

Perfect spot for lunch and a drink on the green or indoors. Waiting staff were friendly but our food choice was poor. We both chose the pulled pork with stuffing and apple sauce in a bun and both agreed that the pork was tasteless, and I like bland foods! It had no seasoning, the stuffing was just a slab of mass produced gunk and served with a few limp lettuce leaves. The bun could have been toasted to give it a bit of crunch rather than sloppy. I would still go back as the setting is great but order something different from the menu

This was the second meal at the Henny Swan this year and both have been excellent food, well presented and fresh. Very good menus on both occasions. Something for everyone. There are only 2 cider options which was disappointing but all the same, plenty of choice of drinks. A couple of constructive criticism notes though... there was a party of 9 'loud' diners next to our table. The tables are close together therefore we found we needed to almost shout to have a conversation at our table of 5. The accoustics of the dining area are not good with loud diners. The other point which all 5 of our group noticed is the appearance of the waiting staff. They seem scruffy and wearing differing clothes to each other with no identifiying they were connected to Henny Swan. Even the man who welcomed us was in cargo shorts and a t shirt. The waiting staff had different aprons slung round them and none of them were in any way tidy. This was disappointing as diners should be able to identify the waiting staff apart from the fact they were wearing an apron. However, the young man who served us was very pleasant and efficient but a tidier appearance would have been nicer. Dress code for the the staff and you have a very good dining venue. We will be back but hopefully the staff will have had time to smarten up their appearances.

This gorgeous pub was right opposite the place where we hired kayaks for a few hours. We didn't book, but they still found us a table after we chanced our arm. The food was gorgeous, staff intent we had food and drink without being intrusive. Reasonably priced, with beautiful surroundings. You won't be disappointed!

Lovely setting. Picnic benches next to the river on one side of the road. Outdoor and indoor seating for the pub itself. Andrew was a fantastic host. Let me try the peach beer which I'd never seen before. Ended up having a few! The girls serving were all lovely and smiling even on a hot and busy day. Made us feel relaxed and at ease. Food didn't blow my mind but no complaints either. The tagliatelle was lovely as was the brownie. We'll be returning for more peach beer and great service!

We had lunch here with our son & his family . We did not book and it was a hot sunny day . Clearly they had been busy but the kind staff found us a table . Superb choice of food , the grilled chicken , broccoli peas and tagliatelle was mouth wateringly wonderful. Great service, attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely go again … oh and the views ******

Burger was tough, no plates for starters but otherwise a nice place to be for lunch.

Too fussy for their own good about who enters their establishment 👎 No food served on bar or outside, only in restaurant. NO I AM NOT THE LADY WITH NOISY DOG. I didn't even get into your establishment as you refused to serve any food in the bar or outside. As I am only a visitor it doesn't bother me but having local family it would have been nice to have a bite to eat. Unfortunately we weren't made welcome on that occasion and therefore found elsewhere.

Friendly staff in a beautiful setting! Popped by for a spot of lunch - went for the Beef burger with mozzarella and bacon, and swapped the skinny fries for chunky skin-on chips. The burger was delicious, and the fries were very nice. The one thing I would have changed is the fact the meal was served on a serviette/tissue on the plate as this just got absolutely covered in burger juice and sauce.

We had our wedding breakfast at the Henny Swan at the end of April and all we can say to the Tracy and the team is THANK YOU SO MUCH! The lunch was delicious and the service was incredible, nothing was too much for them and we had such a wonderful time celebrating with our loved ones! The venue is spectacular and we will be back to enjoy many more meals with you! Thank you all again so much!

The best deep fried halloumi we’ve ever had, not just that but amazing food all round in a beautiful part of the world. Me & my wife travel from Milton Keynes to come here for the amazing food. A must visit restaurant.

Only went in for half a coke as I was on my motorcycle. Went and sat by the river and it was amazing. People enjoying themselves on boats, paddleboards and kayaks. Will definitely go back with my lady for a meal and a trip on a boat. 👍😎

My friend and I are on a walk over the beautiful Suffolk landscapes when we realise we are extremely parched. We look over the fields and see the henny swan. We march over the river and entered the pub. As me and my friend are only 17 we had decided to have j2o’s as our drink of choice. We were immediately asked for id and turned away after explaining that we don’t want an alcoholic drink and are really thirsty. Now we are going to have to drink the stour

Staying in Sudbury for a couple of days I met up with my cousin and she took me to the Henny Swan, what a little gem.
