The hidden jewel of traditional public houses. Great atmosphere amazing selection of fine ales and ample parking. 😎and to the best of my knowledge no noisy gaming machines. 10/10

The website and the sign on the door says they are open until 11.30 , turned up at just after 10 and they were closed , landlord outside looking after his dogs . Pointed out the website and signs but he merely apologised , 30 minute walk there and back , a total waste of time . An awful service completely rude to potential customers

Arrived at this establishment to be met at the bar by the worst service I've ever experienced. Blond middle aged lady served us. Obviously didn't want to be there, miserable, rude and sarcastic. Have been coming here every Christmas. This visit will be our last.

Whilst away for work at a nearby hotel I was recommended a visit. The staff on both days were very friendly and welcoming. Two local Ales on cask and two ciders. A selection of popular lager and cider brands on tap incl rekorderlig and peroni. All prices were well below what I expected. A large selection of snacks.

Moved to the area recently. Saw the pub from the outside and thought we’d pop in and give it a go. Terrible mistake. The landlady was at the bar and clearly drunk before 7pm. The landlord was miserable and unwelcoming. I ordered a carling and just as he started pouring I apologised, said I didn’t see Budweiser and could I change my order. Anyone would think I’d ask him to pour an entire pint down the sink such was the little sulk he put on. We really felt like an inconvenience. A large group of locals congregated at the bar and made you feel like anyone not regular was clearly an interloper and up to something. You’d have thought pubs would be desperate for new custom. Clearly not this lot. Terrible shame. First and last time.

the King Billy is a great "proper" pub - no cooked food on offer, just a fantastic range of quality beers and drinks. The best pint of Guinness in Braintree, bar none, and very friendly to those who are not true locals or regulars Loads of room outside for summer evenings and events and nice and nice and cosy of a winter

Great local pub this. Mainly no food on offer as keeping it simple (although they do have a proper pizza van turn up from Nonnas on regular occasions), brilliant range of beers and good company and service from staff and other drinkers. range of events in summer months also using their garden area brilliantly, from music to beer festivals. Very much highly recommend Andy and his crew at the King Billy!

My family (group of 6 adults) arrived mid way through a Saturday evening but found a back room in this locals pub on the edge of Braintree. The barmaid/landlady was very friendly and welcoming. The beer was delicious. The barmaid/landlady brought us over some delicious (free!) cake. I wish this pub was nearer to where I live!

A traditional local pub with a great selection of cask ale. Recommended as a way to spend a summer afternoon and evening. A shame that the beer garden is so often closed as it would make all the difference to be able to sit out on the lawn for a proper country feel.

This is a great Little Pub which is for your locals and for people who like a drop of real Beer and Ale. They have many events during the year from full scale beer Festivals to Christmas Carols with song sheets. (great fun). They also have live music .There is always a warming atmosphere within the pub. Just remember this pub does not do food just great beer and ales.

Angus and Marion serve us well and have created a pleasing ambience in what is quite a small but welcoming environment. This is a properly tiny pub! Great garden and some hardened types drink in there in January! The beer is the best in CM7 area and the place is cosy. Don't go there for food (they don't do it!) but do go there for a feel of an English pub and good ale. They have beer festivals in the summer and the garden makes these a great event with people coming from miles to participate. The publican brews his own beer branded Moody Goose, and these are worthy of a taste.Lastly and by no means least, Nonna's Pizza parks here wagon in the car park so you can get freshly made pizza cooked while you swig a crafty pint, then take it home! It's all good!

My friend and I initial visit was to sample the real ale that we had heard was available at the King William and we were not disappointed!! The good selection of great ale is always top quality. Because the ale is just constantly so good we, along with many others, now visit this pub most nights of the week. The pub is always full but somehow there is always room for more people as everybody is very friendly and helpful. All of the staff just can not be more helpful and indeed efficient.Sometimes there is a live group - Sometimes there is a beer festival - Sometimes the screen is on for an important match, although not overpowering or loud. The latest and greatest is the home cooked pizza van in the car park each Friday night. The quality of their pizzas puts the main chains to shame. I stopped buying takeaway pizzas due to demise in quality but the home cooked food from this van is better than I could make at home - I will be a regular Friday evening pizza eater again - Yippee. Please visit the King William - You will NOT be disappointed.6 stars !!!

This was the icing on the cake in a town lacking any character. I quick visit at lunchtime before the Braintree Town versus Southport match, I tried a pint of one of the real ales on offer and discovered that the pub had its own brewery! The Moody Goose brewery Barnestormer was excellent and I could have happily stayed here all day.

We have been drinking here for about 5 years, if you are a real ale drinker there is normally around 4 or 5 cask ales on at a time, and around 5 ciders, a large patio area which does get busy as the pub is very popular. A Great drinkers pub, no restaurant or food served here. There is a Toby Carvery right around the corner next to the Holiday Inn for food.

A great place to have a beer, especially a real ale which they have a nice selection of. My favourite is Doom Bar which they often seem to have on.Friendly staff and a great patio/garden in the summer. Also family friendly and dog friendly too. We had a wonderful roast dinner with our family of 9. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing. We had starters, main and dessert, pork belly was a great choice, everyone loved their mains and the Oreo Cheesecake was definitely a winner for the children.
