Went for Sunday lunch and ordered roast beef and asked for it to be cooked pink, the waitress said it will be served rare, waited and a waiter turned up with very well done meat, we said we ordered rare, he went back to the kitchen only to return with the same put it on the table to say that’s all we have!!!!!!!!!! An older man appeared and blamed the young waiter, we then got up and walked out as nothing else was offered, never go to this pub with staff attitude like that because they don’t care about customers, worst pub experience ever😡😡😡😡😡

We walked to the pub on Saturday with two young children, the staff were friendly, the food was excellent and we were made to feel very welcome. We shall be returning very soon for another home-made beef and Guinness pie!

Kate was only person behind the bar and serving tables with 22 people in. Food was excellent though portions were very large. Unusually Pate and Prawn Cocktail was served with plenty of toast and bread and butter. Again main courses were large and very tasty. Paul is an accomplished chef. Kate did a brilliant job of managing bar and tables.

We as a group thought a trip to the green and lunch at the Ship on Sunday sounded a great idea, a stop off at Halstead Cricket Club to attend the local beer festival on the way seemed a good idea as well, arriving at the Ship around 1.30, the manager was very friendly from the outset and made sure that all was well for the five of us, even giving a sample of red wine before ordering, a great thing to do, as we all know that after ordering a bottle and finding it not quite to your taste means not enjoying it at the table. Our food was lovely and plentiful, no rush to use the table again, and in my opinion a place to visit again and I will surely do so, I would recommend booking as it was busy, but do try as it will be worth it.

Todos disfrutamos muchísimo cada boca llena de nuestra entrantes y platos principales - demasiado lleno para dulces - el servicio fue muy bueno, sin duda volveremos cuando estemos en la zona

Lovely lunch with friends yesterday. We all shared a selection of starters (small plates) which were so delicious and beautiful presented. Mains were cooked fresh, peri peri chicken was huge and so nice. The only fault would be that the mussels main course should have come with bread - rather than having to ask for it (and pay 4.50 for bread and oil) but we had a lovely afternoon and the service was outstanding, the lady was super friendly, attentive and clearly loves her job - a real credit to you. We will see you again soon when we are back in the area.

Popped in for a pint whilst in Rayne. Just the one cask ale, but a really well kept 1555. Spotted the menu and decided on food. Food was delicious, clearly homemade and very reasonably priced. Televisions showing sport were unobtrusive and the staff were polite and friendly. A really nice pub.

If only I had read the reviews first!! Should have done myself cheese on toast instead, would have had more flavour. AWFUL!!! Tried one slice, the rest in the bin 😏

Incredible food and the sticky toffee pudding is the best I’ve had. It’s such a fantastic pub that is very well furnished inside, I love a pub that feels cosy to have a meal and a drink with friends n family and this is it. Helpful polite staff tasty food cosy pub 5 star.
