We have been to the Half way House many times. The quality and variety of the food is alway excellent. We did steak on the stone which we always enjoy. Very friendly server -do not remember his name but he was very helpful. Would recommend this place any time.

We have stayed and eaten at The Cavendish before and been impressed. They have had a refurbishment since which we liked. We had the tasting menu one night then had 4 friends join us for dinner the other night and the food was excellent. Unfortunately the whole experience was let down by the service which had previously been very good. Some staff were good but most were inattentive, lacking in knowledge and not really interested. I asked the restaurant manager to advise me what white wines were medium dry as one of our guests didn’t like dry wine and he looked at the wine list then said “maybe try a Chablis”. That’s about the worst advice he could have given as that is one of the driest wines. He should have said he didn’t know rather than bluff. At breakfast a waitress cleared my crockery from the first course but left my wife’s. 2 other members of staff came to the table but neither cleared her crockery. It wasn’t busy but they were not looking to see what needed doing. On the second night when we had guests there was a wedding on in the other room and we felt very neglected. After the first round of drinks, which took ages to come, nobody came to ask if we wanted any more. Once we had finished coffee, which we had to ask for, nobody came back to ask if we wanted anything else and there was nobody around to ask for the bill. Luckily I wanted it all charged to my room as I was treating my guests but if we had wanted to split the bill we would have struggled to find someone to do that for us. Finally, while most of the refurbishment was an improvement the chairs in the gallery restaurant were incredibly uncomfortable while the old ones were very comfortable. Maz, who was very helpful and friendly, did get us some comfortable chairs from the private dining room though.

I call in at least once a week with a friend for a coffee, the manager is always on hand, she’s a lovely lady and will do anything to help, the coffee is really nice, I’ve not sampled the food yet but I’ve seen what’s served up and I feel it won’t be long before I’m tucking in with family or friends, there’s an outside seating area and it’s spotless, I would recommend the kings way for any occasions

We have been regular visitors to Hargreaves prior to Covid, it's our favourite eatery in Buxton and always look forward to our visit. We visited yesterday and what a disappointment. What was once an " Edwardian " tea room , now looks more like a works canteen. My favourite colour is green, but the plain painted walls in a drab olive colour just doesn't work especially with no prints to break it up. Tableclothes seem to have disappeared and the lighting looks awful. Oh and they have fallen into the trap of PC "Unisex" loos. Having said all that, the food was very good and the staff/service efficient and friendly. Sorry, these, I know, are difficult times and it is all a matter of personal taste, just not to ours. I wish them well but we will now have to seek out pasture new.

Visiting an establishment that titles itself 'All Mine Cakes . . .' we had the impression that we would be presented with a display of cakes from which to make our choice. A grave error! No cakes on display at all, the nearest to 'cakes' is a blackboard listing what is available, which I was advised to take a photograph and make our choice at our table. It seemed significant that scones were on display and a large number of customers ordered scones. During our visit no one ordered cake - you do not order what you cannot see. Reading through the menu the outstanding point was the price for each item. Far from saying the prices were a rip-off, they seemed 'over the top' (in my opinion). Most probably the quality is very good, but not that good. Still - you have to try these things once, I just have to ensure I do not make the same mistake twice.

Charming Cafe it is. The coffee is very good. The photos of table laid with cutlery and napkins and lovely decor enticed us drive out to Monsal Head where we know the views are wonderful to have a light lunch. BUT We sat at a table and although the place was empty ( very rainy outside ) the staff didn’t acknowledge us, say hello even or explain it is counter service only. If you are expecting food, think again. No meals, No sandwiches, No baked potatoes or anything substantial, just a few cakes, savoury pies and sausage rolls Most disappointing. Wasted journey. WILL NOT VISIT AGAIN. Hassop Station nearby saved the day fortunately.
