We booked a table here for my birthday. The service was absolutely amazing right from the beginning. We booked the table for 20 people with one days notice. They called us in the morning to confirm the table for evening (not many places tend to do this now so for me this was excellent). We arrived at the White Horse and it looked absolutely beautiful on the outside and the inside was just as amazing. We ordered our drinks and meals, and were informed that there would be a slight delay as they were quite busy however, our meals came out very quickly and tasted amazing. They had managed to get everyone's main courses out near on all together and with the size of our party that was very impressive. We have been to so many places (as a party of approx 20) and we have always had to send a meal back or there has been a meal that has been missed/forgotten about, and they always tend to come out in dribs and drabs but the White Horse had it just spot on. The service was absolutely amazing. All of the staff were very friendly and they went above and beyond. Once we finished our mains the plates were cleared promptly. Now everyone knows that you have a have a good pudding. Every single pudding that came out was just outstanding. The blood orange brownie was to die for, I would strongly recommend this and it was full of flavour. As you can see by the length of this review they have made my birthday very special. This was the first time we visited and let me assure you we will certainly be returning and spreading the word about how amazing this place is. Thank you so much for everything.

Unsatisfactory meal quality/portion/presentation . Did not eat. Informed staff who offered a total refund. All was ok until the obnoxious manager came over. I did not ask to speak to him but as he drew a chair up to our table to ask our opinion, it becam obvious our opinioni did not matter! I had taken photos of our unsatisfactory food and advised him I would review it on here. He then said I, yes I was threatening him! He came across very aggressive. We got up and left. This is the second time we’ve been in on a Sunday for lunch. The roast doesn’t disappoint. I had the vegetable crown roast, it was fab. My partner had roast beef, there was a good portion of beef, but it was a bit tough. The Yorkshire’s are huge and bit crispy for my liking, but that’s just me. All in all a very good lunch, for a reasonable price & nice friendly staff. We’ll be back!

My barbershop chorus,Tuxedo Junction held our annual Christmas Dinner outing at the White Horse on 18.12.17.There were twenty five of us on what was a very busy evening as other local functions were also being held. Very pleasant to be greeted by the ever welcoming management. The dining tables were all set out with Christmas décor including a Xmas cracker for each person. Food was served efficiently,on time and on hot plates by diligent and friendly staff who were always ready to go the extra mile. The food choice was varied but with the obvious Christmas theme and the quality of the food was very good indeed, well above average "pub grub". The roast potatoes were delicious and the vegetables were cooked just right. There was also plenty of gravy to accompany the meal(this is often not the case in some establishments).Quite clearly a lot of effort has been put in by the management to create very good quality fare in a friendly environment at extremely good value for money. Thank you Simon and Tina.

I have been here several times as I live near and often friends choose to meet here for quiz nights etc. I have eaten here several times and only once have I had something I was actually impressed with, the house battered fish ( my friend informs me that when the fish leaves M&J; Seafoods, it's already battered and ready to cook!). Most of the food is average at best and the salad and vegetables are poor. Bar service is slow as people have to order food at the bar too. Good bar staff know who is next to be served unless it's exceptionally busy. Yesterday was quiet, despite the good weather. The bar man stood there saying who's next which I wasn't impressed about as the only other person waiting to be served had come after me. Drinks were ok, nice and cold but I think it's very rude when it's only the customer who says thank you.

We called here for lunch on a Saturday, around 12:30. The surroundings are very pleasant, with lots of tables. As it wasn't very busy at the time, we were able to choose a good one.The service at the bar was good and the staff were all friendly. The menu offered lots of choice of all the pub fare one expects and the prices were very reasonable.Having placed the order, we didn't have to wait very long before our meals arrived. The portion sizes were more than adequate and the food itself was well up to expectations. We both chose the steak & ale pie, with chips & peas and it was all very tasty. The chips, in particular, were perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy and light inside.Overall, a good lunch at a reasonable price, which was exactly what we wanted. I doubt that we'd choose this pub for a special occasion, but it's as good as any similar establishment that we've visited and better than many!

We booked The White Horse for Christmas Dinner as we had been previously in 2014 and had a lovely time. Our table of 9 was squeezed into the corner and was very cramped. Starters were nice but as soon as most of us had finished the waitress was wanting to clear the table and the service seemed rushed. Main course was awful. I only ate my meat and roast potatoes. I love the White Horse, I love (very) close and often pop in to pick up good to take out and take home (not something usually offered but the staff are always happy to help). We sometimes eat in either as a couple or a family and the atmosphere is always very welcoming, staff are super friendly and will have chat with you if you engage them. I also must say how much I like that you allow people to park in your car park even when not using the restaurant, I know so many pubs near schools who get funny about parents parking there when doing the school run, some even have coned off their car parks to stop people, but you are completely different and for that I am grateful!

the starter was absolutely delicious. Main course undercooked parsnips couldn't even get my knife through it let alone a fork, after telling the waitress she brought out a dish with some more but they had been deep fried and were so very greasy. The cabbage/broccoli mix was watery, black cabbage almost raw. Carrots brussels and potatoes were ok. The dessert was nice. We sat chatting for about 15 /20 mins. Our table had been cleared. when I went to pay the waitress was serving coffee, I asked if that was part of the deal, and she said it was, and apologised that we hadn't been offered it when the dessert plates were cleared, but the other three had left to get in the car while I paid. Also our table was well looked after we had 2 young girls one with long dark hair and the other with shorter blonde Hair they were ever so polite and chatty, they made us laugh and they were brilliant with the kids, offering us colouring and other bits for the kids. We had our Christmas lunch on Friday 16th December 2016. There were 14 of us pre booked. Pre ordered glass of Prosecco was not there on arrival.as promised.. The table was set for 13. not 14 I had to fetch a chair and ask for extra place setting no apologies for either mistakes. The meal was appalling and in spite of several complaints throughout the meal no-one addressed the problems. To add insult to injury the manageress sat down to eat her lunch while we were waiting for our meal to be served. I had not organised this and as it was causing distress to our organiser and the other OAPs in the party I had to shut up and we all paid up. What a disgrace. Please please people vote with your feet and do not go there. As for the manageress and the chain who own this pub you ought to be ashamed of yourselves. None of the 14 people at our lunch will be visiting your establishment again and just remember that you spoilt the day for 14 OAP (the oldest 90) and took their money under false pretence.

We visit this place quite often and have been quite happy with the meals until recently. It has become very hit and miss on the quality of ingredients used and the way they are cooked , what is good one week can be terrible the next, I appreciate that the prices are quite low in comparison with other pub chains but that said other pubs in the Marstons group seem to manage quality ingredients and consistent standards of cooking. We have no problem with the standards of service from the bar staff and when we had to speak to a member of the team regarding a recent issue that we had ,Andy the relief manager dealt with our issue in a very professional way. We shall now find a new place to eat in the new year in the hope that the management will sort out the issues that are clearly happening as we are not the only customers who have had issues ,I have heard others complain in recent weeks but little has been done by the management to resolve issues

Instead a group of staff giggling at the bar while i waited for a drink and they didnt serve me. Its not play time for you guys! Silly. It made me feel uncomfortable. I think this pub is just great for a having a drink and a game off pool Toilets are always clean and smelling fresh. But i will not be eating again. Also where are the sauces? Bad lunch here today. I started my meal, having ordered curry with lime & coriander rice. The rice was over cooked, tasted of neither lime nor coriander and most importantly it tasted of fish and a sort of 'old food' taste. I left it, believing it to be unsafe and notified the waitress so that it could be checked upon. She said she would notify her manager. But despite waiting for a considerable time, nobody came back to us. Disappointingly, this was our first visit here. The outside area was disappointing too, with one shabby, bent parasol available and no base- which meant it was pretty inefficient. The outside does have one large static parasol too but this only shaded one or maybe two of all the tables.

My wife and I, along with our son, in his forties visited the White Horse. It was mid afternoon on Sunday and we just wanted a quick, but wholesome meal, before going our separate ways home.I had fish and chips and our son had pie and chips, which were ok, ish. Small portions, but ok.However, my wife ordered vegetable lasagne. Well, it was dire. There was no evidence of pasta, very little evidence of any vegetables, all hidden under a molten cheese topping. I can't believe that the chef allowed it out of the kitchen. To be fair, they did offer to replace the dodgy item, but it's never quite the same, is it? So we agreed to have a pudding. Our son's was a chocolate cake. He loved it and it was a good sized portion. However, I think they must have something against my wife. She had apple crumble and custard. No evidence of crumble, just stewed apple in a dish.By this time we just wanted to go. Admittedly, the food wasn't expensive, but that's not the point is it?

We have been visiting once a week, and always been happy - until today. New menu; chose popcorn chicken and steak and ale pie (two of us). The popcorn chicken used to come with chips, in a bucket but no-one bothered to tell us it was anything different. So I ended up with popcorn chicken, no chips, salad, not even sauce - had to ask for it. My friend had steak and ale pie. After 40 minutes, and a reminder, they remembered they hadn't served us - so the chips were as if they had been waiting for 40 minutes, 8 peas and an inch of gloopy gravy - not nice. No one bothered to ask what the food had been like, but sorry White Horse you have lost two loyal customers. Bring back Andy - he wouldn't have served food like this!

Went to this pub on recommendation of my sister and partner who had eaten there the previous Saturday saying their steaks were fabulous. Arrived on time to our pre reserved table for 4. Orders were taken - nothing difficult: all ordered steak, one of us wanted a jacket potato, one ordered chips, one wanted mash and one wanted new potatoes. All came out with chips! On asking our server why we were told they had run out of new potatoes. We asked why we were not told this on ordering the food and we're given no reason, 3 plates of food were taken away. We had ordered 2 sides of my mushrooms which sat getting cold. When the 3 plates of food came back 1 now had a few (a meagre portion and I don't eat large amounts of potatoes) new potatoes, miraculously found! Two others had the original order, my plate then had....call me picky...a black eyelash or hair of some description which looked unappealing. I was, by now, getting fed up. The mushrooms were stone cold, our peas were rock solid and clearly I was going to be eating my sub standard meal alone! The head waitress/manager (not sure of her position but seemed in authority) came over and apologised, she said we wouldn't pay for our meals this evening, she said the food was 'different' tonight as they had a new chef who they were not sure they would be keeping! She took my sisters name and address and said the four of us world be invited back for a 3 course meal including drinks on the house. We never did hear from her! We didn't particularly want a free meal but felt it was a nice gesture as our evening had been so disappointing and spoiled. We felt very let down and would not recommend this as a place to eat a. because the food was awful and b. because they do not keep to their word!

There's lots of space, both to sit inside and to park outside. The food usually comes pretty quickly (maybe one exception) and they've always had my order right. The menu is comprehensive (as most chain restaurants are) but nothing exceptional, unusual or exciting. That's not a bad thing per se.I've taken my family a few times and they've always catered for us well, providing high-chairs/replacing straws/additional cutlery and the like. Outside there's a small, fenced in, play area for children, mainly toddlers.Perhaps the only major downside is it's lack of originality. It's a "safe bet" and isn't trying to be anything else.

I hadn't been to The White Horse for a few years - my previous experience there wasn't great but I figured it may have changed since then. How wrong I was. I went there with a friend for a late lunch just after Christmas and although we expected the pub to be busy, we were surprised to find the pub almost empty. The menu itself at the pub is quite limited. Whilst I often expect this at chain pubs, the variety is usually a little greater at other chains. It offers a very basic selection, but luckily it is backed up with quite a large specials board. However when I went to order the chicken and mushroom special, I was informed they had ran out of mushrooms. I eventually went for the chilli cheese hot dog (incidentally they never actually took the special they ran out of off the board, which you'd assume would be common sense for good housekeeping). Me and my friend shared the garlic bread sharing platter to start. It arrived roughly 30 minutes after we'd ordered - A bit long for a bit of garlic bread but the prices are modest so we didn't mind. When it arrived it was terrible. Six tiny pieces of bread - two with a tiny amount of cheese on top, two with a stone cold, bland, salsa and to top if all off, two pieces of bread. There was no trace of garlic anywhere near it, just two slightly burnt pieces of bread. I'm not exaggerating when I say the main took almost an hour to arrive. During all of that time nobody had thought to bring cutlery over to the table so we had to wait for that after the food arrived too. My friend ordered gammon and pineapple which bizarrely turned up with tomato on it, despite there being no mention of it on the description. The hot dog I ordered was described as a long American hot dog - in reality it was 3 very questionable quality, cold sausages in a massively oversized bun. The "chilli" on top tasted of absolutely nothing, as did the thick puddle of plastic cheese on top of it. It's so disappointing, because the pub itself is great - ample parking, loads of space inside and a huge outside area for when the weather is nicer. I definitely will not be making the same mistake for a third time!

Good stop off for normal lunch. Food all fine and reasonable price. Just one or two staff though. 5 year old offered no colouring despite it being available. No allowances for changes in children's menu despite this being allowed in other pubs in the same chain. Gave up waiting to be served for another drink - one person behind bar and other members of staff on breaks just watching her struggle. If they are on a break they should be off "the shop floor".

Once again dined here and the meal was very good but the one thing that let it down was the size of the puddings, apple pie and custard two spoonfuls and it had gone , its bad that they charge so much for so little..!

I organised an event to start and finish at The White Horse, as I've been there on numerous occasions since the new management took over, and was greeted with the now usual fabulous and friendly welcome and a complete "nothing is too much trouble attitude". My guests all ate and drank well and will be happy to return.Simon and Tina are fantastic hosts and I'm looking forward to my next visit!!!

I went as a group of 6 on a Wednesday night and got there absolutely starving! Some of us ordered starters but one girl just ordered her meal and asked for it to come with our starters. I ordered fish cakes which came half an hour later and not only were they cold but the salad on the plate had completely wilted where the plate had obviously been sat under the grill to keep it warm. Not nice at all but I was starving so ate the fish cakes and left the salad. My main which took another 40 minutes was a vegetarian burrito, which was supposed to be served with nacho crisps and sour cream. It actually came out with chips. No sour cream and no nacho crisps. I asked the waiter for sour cream and he bought out mayonnaise, I knew they had sour cream because my friend who had ordered enchiladas had got sour cream, so we just shared that. My burrito was supposed to be spicy vegetables was not spicy and was the driest burrito I've ever had. All I can say is it's a good job I had to pay before the food came out or I don't think I would have paid. In all it was so slow coming out, starter was cold with wilted salad, main course was probably the worst attempt at Mexican food I've seen... If you can't cook it then just don't!!!

Well that was disappointing.... Been to the white horse before and loved it but tonight couldn't wait to leave... Food was poor but then they decided to add a disco and karaoke, when you go for a meal you don't want to have to shout at each other to have a conversation. Not impressed

I pre booked a table for my daughters birthday. On seating down we all noticed a really bad smell and a large number of active flies that were present in both the bar and dinning areas.. We ordered our food and tried to ignore the flies.. Food came out slow and some meals were luke warm / cold one meal was missed and came out 40 minutes after the other meals had been served, this was also luke warm / cold I refused to eat it. I was offered a replacement but declined. I was given a full refund. Cutlery was dirty as were some drinking glasses, plates were greasy on the edges and cold tables were sticky. we had to ask a member of staff to clear the plates away, after we had waited 25 minutes and had had enough.. My daughters birthday cake was then brought out (Which I had brought from home) No plates were offered luckily I had brought some spare napkins from home to take the cake home in. The whole experience was awful and very disappointing for everyone concerned. Non of us enjoyed our meals and we couldn't wait to leave.. the birthday celebration was a complete disaster. :( :(

The staff were friendly and food was ok it just lacked that bit of something that makes a place special. It felt more like a working mens club than somewhere to have a quiet family meal. Shame as it used to be better than this.

I always try to be as honest as possible when I review places, and I think I am with this one.I went with my daughters on Sunday night, I went to the bar, was met with a slight grunt from the male bar staff. My job has a lot of customer facing so I know what's right or wrong with a greeting, he may have had a busy weekend. I ordered some drinks and off we went to find a table. We chose our food, chicken enchiladas, a ranch bbq burger and the salmon and spinach tart. The food came after about 20mins, the place wasn't busy. Only the burger was 'cooked' on site, as it's a chain I understand that the chicken and salmon were pre-prepared. The burger was over cooked, along with the bacon, the sauce and cheese were non existent, the chips were fairly dull as well, no fresh salad on the plate. The tart with the jacked potato was ok and my daughter ate all the tart, the jacket potato was a bit hard. The chicken was microwaved ok, not too sure what they did to the wedges but they looked cremated. With one drink each the bill was £32, I was going to have a word about my burger but after waiting 15 minutes for our table to be cleared I couldn't be bothered to wait any longer.I'm not too sure where the 5 stars come from, average at best!

Stopped off for post hockey 'tea' and we're treated to great pizza and fries. Based on this I would definitely go back to choose from the menu.
