Well I have dined here for probably over 25 years. I can honestly say that for quality of food, service and atmosphere it is probably my favourite place to eat - and I have eaten all over the U.K, France and the rest of Europe. I recently visited with 10 friends for my 69th birthday Sunday lunch - cos regrettably - although I wanted to go for my big 70 next year - I believe that Kate and Tim are finally going off to enjoy a very much well earned retirement. So I was able to take some village friends along and their two youngest who now qualify - the youngest now being 12! The day after they came round with my card and both girls said that they had had the best meal out that they can ever remember having!! Not a bad recommendation from picky 12 and 13 year olds. And as to cost - we had two bottles of house Champagne on arrival - Champagne that is - not prosciutto or whatever you call it!? 2 bottles of great wine. All beers and soft drinks. Starters, Mains, Puds. Coffees - and I had a large pudding wine - I was paying by the way - not driving! Altogether a fabulous and memorable experience - and on the cost front - circa £60 per head. Fabulous value for money for all of the above. To Kate and Tim, you have provided brilliant food and service for as long as I can remember. And if it is true you are finishing at the end of this month then all the very best to you both!! Many thanks for all your hard work. JulianX.

We had Sunday lunch here in September '23 and I have to say it was excellent. 12 months later and not so good. The roast potatoes weren't a patch on last time and my roast beef was leathery and heavily streaked with gristle. The veg wasn't particularly tasty either, and my Banoffee Sundae dessert was the smallest (although tasty) overpriced sundae I'd ever had. It's a shame really because the pub interior and rear beer garden is as olde worlde quaint as can be.

I have visited this restaurant and pub on several previous occasions for meals and drinks, all of which were excellent. However, I visited again recently and was very disappointed with the service, food and general atmosphere. There were six of us in out party, the first item to arrive was a plate of bread, but only five pieces. The main course for four of us arrived at about the same time, but the two remaining meals arrived about five minutes later. We had various meals, beef was one and fish was another. No condiments , such as horse radish or mustard were offered throughout the meal, the beef was only warm at best, but this was probably down to the wait for the fish course. The vegetables which came in two dishes were slow to arrive, with the second dish arriving approximately three minutes after the first, the one dish of cauliflower cheese, which was nowhere near sufficient for six people, arrived about four minutes later, so a good seven minutes after the first dish of vegetables, potatoes were an additional cost of £4.50. It was pretty poor service all round really, which as already stated was very disappointing. We will not be visiting there again. I note that it is has recently been advertised on Rightmove for rent, maybe this is the reason for the very poor service.

Well from “ simply the best “ to gone down hill. We went for a meal and we’re shown straight to our seats, which was unusual as we usually went to the bar to have a matter and order our drinks, but not so this time, the waiter came to take our drinks order, no wine list, then the landlady came to take our order, we ordered our wine and also a jug of iced water as one of the party didn’t drink alcohol, but we were told we couldn’t have one now as we might spill some on the menu it would come with our meal, yet the table opposite us had a jug of water and they hadn’t got there meal, we felt in the way, a few moments later a party of about 9 people arrived so all became clear, we would have been in the way standing at the bar, we felt awkward it spoilt what should have been a good meal.

We go to this pub every year when my partner visits his parents in the UK. They used to own a shop right across the road (in the 70's). Came here for my daughter’s 18th Birthday but that didn’t stop the owners being incredibly rude within the first few minutes of sitting down. They asked for our drinks order within 20 seconds of us sitting down. I explained we just needed to takes our coat of and settle in but they came back 45 seconds later before I had even had time to ask everyone what they wanted. At this point the (male owner) actually rolled his eyes with impatience. If it hadn’t have been my daughter’s birthday I would have walked out there and then. Needless to say the abrupt and rude, snappy service continued from the owner couple. Despite pre booking we were made to feel completely unwelcome the whole night. They totally ruined my daughter’s birthday meal, the only time she will ever have this special day. Disgusting behaviour - don’t run a restaurant if you hate your customers Food was ok but nothing special and portions small Avoid - don’t make the mistake we did

Incredible food and lovely surroundings, however the female manager did taint our experience with her curt, borderline rude and unfriendly manner. It’s a shame really as the food was near faultless, that the attitude of the female manager was unacceptable. We came with guests, our family all the way from the U.S, and the manageress was distinctly abrupt and frankly rude towards us. I want to be clear that the rest of the staff were excellent but since she was our first and main point of contact, it totally ruined the customer experience. When you’re spending north of £300, you’d think a warm welcome and a friendly face would come as standard. Disappointing.

Across our pre-booked group of a dozen, there was a fair range of opinions about the food, ranging roughly from adequate to good (though everyone agreed it was somewhat pricey). In contrast, our views about the quality of the service were pretty unanimous. The spirit of Basil Fawlty seemed to be alive and well in the manageress. Unwelcoming, curt and rude were the adjectives most commonly used in our subsequent discussion of our experience. As if our presence (and the £300 plus of trade we represented) was a somewhat inconvenient or unwelcome intrusion on what otherwise seemed to be a rather quiet Saturday lunchtime. No-one left with the intention of ever eating at the Baker's Arms again, I'm afraid

Wonderful old building with nooks and crannies. It seems beautifully maintained and is very welcoming. The staff were all friendly and professional apart from one woman who didn't seem to be having a good day and didn't seem to mind us knowing. We were there for Sunday lunch; my husband had mushrooms on toast, roast beef and hot cross bun bread and butter pudding and he enjoyed it all very much. I had melon and ham, roast guinea fowl and crepes. I enjoyed mine very much as well, particularly as they've found a way round not-wonderfully sweet melon by concocting a syrup of figs and something (I think) that almost completely made up for it. We shared a treacle tart with cream as well and this was deemed the best dish of all, just superb. The main reason for four stars instead of five is that there were fairly lengthy waits for every course except the first. I asked if they were short-staffed and was told that two tables of eight were causing the hold ups. This isn't right. We've experienced it many times and the seeming lack of care that ensues is surprising and really not ok. I still highly recommend this place and hope they can do better with timings in the future.

Since moving into the area 18 months ago we have tried many local restaurants but this is without doubt our favourite…We have eaten here many times and the standard of the food ,which is excellent, has never slipped….The interior is a centuries old building, that offers a warm homely relaxed atmosphere,Service is prompt and efficient and the dishes from a small menu, lovely. Some restaurants overwhelm you with large portions and huge menus, but Bakers Arms have got both just right,, I would not say it is cheap,BUT if you want a proper dining experience with top quality produce cooked to perfection then this is for you….

LeonSouthLondon London 2756 I'd last eaten here some 20 years ago and remembered the food as being excellent. Booked Sunday Lunch with trepidation, but any doubts were soon assuaged. It's a lovely cosy pub dining room, lots of nooks and crannies. We didn't order wine as one person doesn't drink alcohol and I was driving so opted for non-alcoholic beer. So just two glasses of red wine for the third person in the group. Starters, all different, were delicious. Fluffy deep fried goat's cheese in a light coating. Serrano ham and figs, and a tian of tuna, mango and avocado. We then chose the Sunday roasts. Pork, slow cooked leg of lamb, and beef. All well cooked, substantial and meltingly tender, the pork with a decent amount of crackling. Lamb was several thick slices served in a mound. Three puddings which I can't recall but all yummy. Coffees and teas. Bill came to £150 with a tip, so £ 50 each. They don't add a service charge. It isn't cheap but is about right for the quality of the food and the young serving staff were charming and helpful. I'll definitely be back, but sooner than another 20 years. Thank you. Show less

I'd heard good things about this place, particularly the food and unfortunately that was the main element and it let our experience down. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff very professional. We'd all ordered the same meals from the Specials menu. The chicken liver parfait was sloppy for starters and the hake with prawns in a lobster bisque for the main course was poor. The prawns and some of our hake was over cooked and the bisque just tasted of tomato. The vegetables that accompanied the meal were not very exciting and miniscule in amount.

The steak is always perfectly cooked with a lovely peppercorn sauce and stilton mushroom on top. If you love sauce, I’d ask for an extra bit on the side! All in all, it’s a great place to visit, it is relatively pricey, a birthday or special occasion would be worth it! I would recommend to anyone.

Our dinner was so good that we returned a week later when we had the opportunity to entertain a visitor. The blackboard menu had been replaced by regular and specials menus at the tables. Neither were too long but there was plenty of choice. Everything was freshly prepared and cooked to perfection. Main course sole and sea bass were excellent for our first dinner and duck and Guinea fowl were equally delicious the next time. Starters and desserts were very good too. Our welcome had been warm and the service was good if not faultless. House wines were reasonably priced and overall it was very good value. We have dined at the Bakers several times over the years and it’s definitely on form now.

Just back home from a family meal here which was quiet a let down! Its been a while since I was last here but always had a good reputation and food and service were excellent. However tonight was not what I expected. The host was very abrupt, we didn't really feel welcomed and were sat on a draughty table by the door. Food very mediocre, starters were ok but main dishes for the 4 of us were very poor. 2 of us had lamb which apparently was the last of the lamb for the night and it showed! The pork belly was very fatty and a fillet steak had blood all over the plate. We had to ask for extra veg for 4 of us and the dauphinous potatoes were burnt. Very, very poor considering the prices they charge, we ended up having a dessert as we were still hungry. But has put me off going back here, I live in this area and would prefer the Nevill Arms in Medbourne any day ...

Had duck starter, pork and a pudding (only to fill me up). Duck portion was small, pork was very fattie and not enough veg or potatoes so had to ask for more (which was brought 5 minutes later).. As for my partner and family and daughter who had the lamb (which I was told were the last 2 portions) and it showed and the fillet steak which was under cooked as there was blood on the plate as it should of been medium rare.... Can't understand showing Michelin signs on way in with what I seen tonight... No members of staff were wearing visors or face masks. Drinks and food orders taken at the table which was good. Starters all fine although the salmon portions were tiny!Main courses equally small with a tiny bowl of vegetables and potatoes to be shared between four of us! Plus we had to ask for the veg as it didn’t arrive with the mains. One member of our party had pork belly which was completely fatty with hardly any pork, when we complained we got an apology from the waitress but we did have to ask for this meal to be deducted from our bill.No apology from management which was at again poor.We didn’t have deserts but the coffee was fine.Overall very disappointing as in previous visits we have always had great food and service.

But after a few years between visits we were not disappointed. Kate and Tim have got it spot on. The evening was very relaxed and it was lovely to have a beacon of normality, no masks, screens or silly paraphernalia to address social distancing, just good old fashioned sensible precautions. The food was top quality. We had Scallops, Harissa Lamb and dressed crab for starters, all delicious. Then for main we had Hake, fillet steak and pork belly (with a huge piece of crackling. All served with dauphinois potatoes and steamed veg, and absolutely delicious. Unfortunately we were too full to order a pudding so next time! Well done Kate and Tim for making it a special night.

Hand sanitizer available limited to around 40 people but yet there was still the lovely Bakers Arms atmosphere. Now we get on to the good bit. The food. We both had scallops with black pudding then my husband had his usual fillet steak. I had Sea Bass on a pea and mint risotto which was so light and delicious (would definitely recommend). This is not the typical pub. It's a quint village restaurant. There is a parking area in the back. The big surprise was the sign on the door.( No kids )so no families. The welcome was very warming. Theres a small but nice wine collection. The service was steady. I really liked the goat flan served with a small salad with balsamic vinegar. My main course was belly of pork. Some of the Best I have ever eaten. Afterwards the dessert selection. Worth saving room for. Now again the main does change regularly. So if tonight is anything to go by. Everyone ENJOY.

As a party of eight, we recently visited this hidden gem to celebrate my husband's special birthday. The staff were professional and courteous, the food was amazing, the atmosphere was cosy and inviting - we were made to feel welcome throughout the whole evening. Truly fabulous, thank you. We will be returning!

When we first arrived and asked to be seated we were told we had to order our food "quickly" as there was other people that needed to be served later.. We hadn't chosen what we wanted but felt very uncomfortable and were not shown our seats until we had made an order. The lady that was serving us seemed to be one of the bosses/landlady so we were very surprised that she was so rude and unwelcoming. The man at the bar and the waitresses were nice but our whole meal was thwarted by the initial welcoming. We had an early booking which may have been due to a busy evening however if there is no room don't book extra people!!!!Food was good but expensive, won't be going back due to very rude landlady.

The Bakers is usually hectic - bookings essential some way in advance but on the Saturday between Christmas and New Year we had the pleasure of a first class lunch in relaxed and practically empty restaurant. It's one of those places where you don't get a menu - simply choose from blackboards with starters & mains chalked up and changed daily. The service this particular Saturday was excellent (on evenings in the past we've sometimes found it under pressure) and the emptiness made us appreciate what an attractive restaurant it is with fine views to the rear. The restaurant has a fine reputration locally and this lunchtime lived up to expectations. The range of dishes was very good and all four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal but portions (especially for starters) were a bit on the mean side.Main courses were uniformly excellent. My pheasant was perfectly cooked and the prawn and sea bream curry had two of our number purring. Desserts were OK - although the crepes which two of us had were barely warm - but not enough to complain about. Cheeses were very good. We had just a couple of glasses of wine (two of us were driving) plus some soft drinks with the bill coming to a little over £40 a head.

We had been recommended to visit this place we cannot fault the ambience and the food the main issue is the main course followed the starters far too quickly, no sooner had the starter plates had been cleared the mains arrived, fine in you only want to be out for an hour!!!We like to go out for dinner and make an evening of it.Will go again and request a little break.

Another lovely evening at the Baker's, thank you Kate and Tim. Really good pork loin and crackling slow cooked. Delicious sticky toffee, washed down with good claret. What's not to like!

I had to review this place again, 3rd time now in 2 months we have eaten here, and it doesn’t change in fact it gets better, what a treat we try other restaurants in Leicestershire we regularly eat out at least once a week, but we find we are always comparing to the bakers arms, everything fits our requirements in a top class establishment, the hosts the service the food, well done to Tim and Kate, you have got it bang on. The food is 5 star and the pub is cosy . Party of 6 that eat our regularly in the local area read review and decided to try . On arrival walked to the bar a very rude lady took our drinks order only one lager on tap , she the told us to choice of the blackboard position behind we had to stand over seated people to look at the board then go back to the bar and ordered our food she then pointed and said your table is down there , not escorted or shown to the table . At no point where we offered a wine list . Food came very quickly was hot and excellent . We asked the waitress for more drinks at which point a man came and said apparently you want a drinks order as if it was a crime or we should gone to the bar , why you would do this with hot food in front of you I don’t know . Would have been 5 star if not for the terrible customer service . Unfortunately we had gone in a taxi because if we hadn’t we would have walked out x the chef appears to be the draw here ,. No dogs or children allowed either . We will not be returning

We have dined here a few times when staying with friends locally and the high standard is always maintained. Ideal ambiance in lovely old building, A good variety of choice on the menu, we had pork belly, monkfish and prawn curry, steak, all very enjoyable with first class service. We have booked for New Year’s Eve. Very busy restaurant, booking at weekends is essential.

We visited the Bakers Arms for the first time last weekend and had the most incredibly warm welcome. Delicious food both nights and the steak was one of the best I’ve had, cooked to perfection! Special mention to the lovely duet who were fabulous hosts both nights. We were blown away by their friendliness and going above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful weekend. They even popped out to let us borrow their own map to guide us around the walk they suggested. I can’t recommend this outstanding little gem enough. We’re looking to our return visit already.... ❤️

Yesterday evening's delicious meal emphasised that it's been too long since we last ate here. Cooking of this quality is a rare find these days, especially in a village pub, but The Bakers Arms continues to deliver. Cosy atmosphere, exceptional food, good wine and attentive service. Excellent all-round, once again.

The cafe is permanently shut and has been converted to an outside bar only used in the summer. It needs to be removed from Tripadvisor. Fortunately, they still do a nice pot of tea in the bar

Often visit Costa (why have they stopped selling cinnamon buns?) This one is as you would expect with the usual fare. There was a very pleasant young lady both taking the order and preparing the coffee. There were other staff but seemed to be on a break at the time. If you like Costa this one won't dissapoint.
