I must say I'm out of town and looked around for best places for food and decided to go here and ommmgg the burger was unreal even I got stuck for choice as the fish smelt just as good the owner was very Down to earth with the best selection of music ever very chilled and very nice decor even wants to keep it a restaurant type bar to filter out the sports bar needing for the town

I arrived here around 3pm and the place was pretty much empty, not a goid sign. The food was over priced £15.95 for an halloumi and mushroom burger. My partners pudding and chips were even more expensive. The pudding was hard definitely not steamed. Jalapeño bite to start was £5.95 and you got 3. They were full of water inside and greasy. I am more than happy to pay for good food but this was not. The food was not fresh and definitely frozen. My partner and friend have been ill last since eating the food.

£15 each for a burger & chips & £8 for child’s meal…. Came to £50 for 2 adults & 1 child which only soft drinks. Burger wasn’t nothing special & was cooked medium rare (pink in middle & red juice soaked in the bun) no option given in how you would like it done. Coleslaw was old & warm. Best meal was the kids Mac n cheese but was still average at best. real shame, I would have rather gone to a proper restaurant for the price.

We were impressed with the menu choices. I had an adult portion of the gammon, chips & peas. The egg and pineapple really added to this. It was delicious and so filling I had no room for dessert. My friend went for the small plate beef lasagne which she thoroughly enjoyed. She had room for her second choice dessert. Half of cider apiece was a great choice. The layout of the place was spacious and the decor was lovely. The background music was a trip down memory for us. My mother used to say you can judge an eaterie by the state of the toilets. These were clean, fresh and with extras like lotion, hairspray and feminine hygiene products. We will certainly go again and will recommend this place to others.

Popped in mid-week early evening for dinner. Service with a smile, bar staff were helpful and friendly, plenty of choice for seating, very tidy too. Ordered food at the bar, I went for the house burger served with salad and Potato wedges which was delicious, proper meat, one of the nicest burgers I’ve had in a while not your Mcdonalds fake burgers! Food arrived in good time; again, with a smile. My partner decided on the chicken kebab which she thoroughly enjoyed. All round great service…Atmosphere was a bit lacking but it was mid-week early evening… If we’re in the area again we’ll definitely be making some meal stops here 10/10

We went to this place around 4pm on a Saturday, it was quiet the atmosphere was off putting to say the least. We ordered white bait starter which was nice. The mains however we ordered the classic beef burger, for the price of £15 each we would’ve expected a decent beef patty but were served something basic with no taste or sauce on the burger, some of the lettuce was also wilted. The bread was crumbling and weren’t even toasted. They also did not have any other dairy free milk options which was strange as they had gluten free deserts. Apart from that the place was clean.

Superb Sunday Roast - we have eaten a few times since reopening abs I have been meaning to give them another review but kept forgetting. We eat our regularly and this has got to be one of the best roasts in the area. From the moment you walk in, we were met by a friendly chap behind the bar who asked us you to scan the NHS app and we were taken to our table straight away which are social distanced and spaced out. The staff are super friendly and it we were so glad we booked as the restaurant was already busy when we sat down at 1330. Our order was taken by Tom, who is really polite and even though some food was already sold out as they had been busy since opening, it was no issue for us and we ordered , the scallops, whitebait to start then 2 beef, 2 lamb roasts with pigs in blankets and cauliflower sides. Good choice of wine - my partner and his friend had New Zealand Sauvignon whilst I opted for Malbec. It was nice to not feel rushed as we have been to some restaurants for Sunday lunch and they try to squeeze in double bookings so we could relax with our drinks and enjoy our food at leisure. We overheard another table complementing their food to the one of the waitresses and ours was exceptional. The beef was cooked perfectly and not an ounce of fat and the gravy to die for. Veg and roasties were cooked perfectly and not one of us had a bad choice of food. It’s great to see a pub so busy and we will definitely return and we saw on a board when walking to our car they are starting to do some different theme evenings - pies, steak and burger night etc if I can remember correctly. We would recommend booking and have already booked again for next week. Thanks all at the shoulder from the talented chefs, the bar and waiting staff - keep up the great work!

I hate to leave poor reviews, but I consider it to be constructive criticism. We arrived at 13:25 on Sunday 18th. Social distancing was observed and we received our drinks fairly quickly (although not exactly what we ordered). On ordering, half of the things we planned to have were already sold out (not very impressive when they’d only been serving lunch for an hour & a half). We ordered and waited an hour for our meal. Nobody came and apologised for the delay until five minutes before it was due to be served. Nobody looked at our drinks and offered another round. We ordered two beef and one lamb dinner. The lamb, potatoes, yorkshire puddings and gravy were amazing. Unfortunately, the beef was raw and the vegetables were too crispy. My husband refused to pay for the beef meals and we left feeling really disappointed. We had to stop on the way home to get McDonald’s. Such a shame. If meals are going to be late, explain to diners and offer more drinks. Better to wait for a good meal than wait and still not enjoy it. Sorry guys.

So happy we visited the village pub for Sunday Lunch. We haven’t been for a few years and the changes are really positive. Spotlessly clean which made us feel really comfortable, down to earth and just good honest food (we don’t have many of these places around!) super value for money 2 or 3 courses, we tried the lamb and beef - quality of meat excellent, generous portion and the roasties and gravy were to die for! Waiting staff were good but two of our five meals arrived stone cold and a third had a vital ingredient missing. When corrected the food quality was fairly good but expensive for what we got.On leaving there were three youths drinking at the bar (staff were not around to move them) so we had to squeeze past to get to the door - a sad end to a fairly poor evening. If they can sort out the kitchen it will be fine!

We went to this pub a few years ago and walked in and then straight out as it was a dive, but after we heard the landlady who used to work in braybrooke, Jo had taken it on to turn it around, we thought we would give it another go. Wow what a transformation and we were so glad we went back in. The grotty carpets have gone and it’s all open with clean wood floors. It has a lovely conservatory and the staff are welcoming and friendly. All COVID protocols are being followed. One way system in and out and signing in etc.The food was a great selection of pub grub with some daily specials. Our table ordered a chicken burger, fish & chips, seafood linguine and crab salad for mains and all were cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. We shared a couple of desserts sticky toffee and Eton mess and again both were lovely.Huge congratulations to the chefs for making this wonderful food. The restaurant area was full and from what we tasted/drank you could see why, the pub had a great feel to it from what we previously expected. They needed our table so we moved to the bar lounge for a couple more drinks and everyone of the team were so attentive. From the landlady, Jo, manager Magna and the rest of the team.Apparently it was only taken over since the end of last year so Ignore any reviews prior to this year as that was the old owners who ran it into the ground. We have already booked for there bank holiday fiesta on Monday and can’t wait to return to this new gastropub on the Market Harborough food scene.

Firstly the menu in no way resembles the website. For main course the choice was pie, fish & chips, burger, steak, vegetarian. I chose fish and chips but they had run out so I opted for the pie with mixed veg and colcannon - problem was that it was served with plain mash and only green beans. My wife had chips with her meal which were awful - not fresh and sad looking. My meal was accompanied by bottled beer since there was no ale of any kind available. We chose a table in the lounge since the first table in the restaurant was too drafty and the second one was near the bar and very noisy. The saving grace for our experience was the service which was as good as it gets.

After visiting Foxton we decided to visit this pub for a meal and we was not disappointed. The pub is situated in a lovely village, and actually looked small till we went in. You can park on the front, also drink on the green under the trees. We walked through the pub and noticed how comfy it was. The bar had a large TV and it was spacious. We asked for a table and was taken through to the dining area. It was not a massive area ( which we liked) but very cosy, and the candles lit on our table added to the feel of the room. It was bright, clean and had its own bar. The young lady serving us was very nice and made us feel relaxed, no rushing to serve us, and gave us plenty of time to relax and just enjoy being there. The menu was a mix of local used ingredients which I liked, and also had something for everyone, there was also the specials which the young lady told us about. The meals where beautiful!and the pictures dont do the food justice, everything was cooked perfectly, 2 of us had the specials which was a chicken fillet burger and my son actually asked if he was climbing or eating it it was presented so nicely, and we loved the plates, didnt make your food all crammed together, the steak was cooked perfect for me, I was the only one that chose the home made chips, and they where immense! The rest had fries then wished they all had home made, they where cooked to perfection. In all the meal was well worth the money and I never mind paying extra if a meal is served like this. The garden is kept lovely, there is also an indoor heated smoking shelter which I thought was a great idea, also very clean. Our visit here was our first and if we are ever in the area again I'd definitely come back. The land lady was very friendly and this makes a pub. Thank You for a lovely meal and to the Chef , hope to see you again,

Visited on Saturday evening with a friend for dinner and drinks. The pub was bustling when we arrived with a great atmosphere in both the bar and dining area. All of the dining tables were occupied so I was glad I booked ahead. We arrived early for our pre booked table and given the option of going to our table which we did. The menu really is excellent. A variety of options from good old pub classic starters and mains to some more varied speciality dishes and a grill menu. I opted for a 10 oz steak which came with garlic sautéed mushrooms a whole baked tomato, home made onion rings and dressed salad leaves. I asked for peas instead of salad and this was no problem. The steak was cooked perfectly to my choice of medium rare. I opted for a peppercorn sauce and there was a choice of french fries or the home made chunky chips which I chose. The whole meal was excellently presented and service in the pub was excellent throughout. The wine and beer choice was very good. I can thoroughly recommend a visit here and will definitely return.

This conversation continued for most of the time we were there even with other customers being about. Not what id expect in a pub and made me feel embaressed for the other dinners having to witness this.

When pubs are closing down across the country the Shoulder of Mutton should be taking advantage of being in a popular village near Market Harborough.

Group of 8 Sunday lunch. seated at 2.30pm. My starter was pate. Boring I know, and boring it turned out. a pot of pate and two slices of bread, with some leafy greens. Mains fillet steak, medium rare. No,,,, it was bloody, and rare. Plates from a furnace should have cooked it by themselves, but didnt. I should have sent it back, but didnt, it was eaten. The tomato that accompanied it was cold and not cooked, nor was it seasoned, / oiled. The beef similarly. Mushrooms had been quartered and put on the plate. No evidence that they have been cooked at all, no sause, flavouring, nothing, just.... well, mushrooms. Fries were very nice - skin on. A bowl of root veggies, consisted of raw onion hidden underneath suede and those strange uncooked mushrooms again. Bizarre ! Are these root veg? I think the chef thought.... Oh crap some ones ordered root veg, what have we got? Oh I know, onions, suede and ... oh there nothing else, lets go for the mushrooms, they grow near the ground. Pud of bread & butter pud was quite nice. The chef need sacking. DONT PUT ON A FILLET STEAK ON THE MENU IF YOU CANT COOK IT!! Total, with drinks, about £250. We left a tip, but im not sure why. The staff are nice enough, I get the feeling the cooking crew need more training

I lead a Rambling Group walk from this pub. A group of 20 people. Ordering food at the start and returning three hours later for lunch. The food was standard pub food, quite satisfactory with no frills, welcome after an energetic session. Service was fairly prompt and friendly. However it was not possible to order inside at the start before 10am and I had to post the orders through the door. I understand this sometimes happens but some pubs do open the doors to accommodate us. It was rather inconvenient. This pub is also closed for food on Monday and Tuesday. The interior could do with an update so I would give it a 'room for improvement' rating!

Arrived. Led to an empty room. Menu minimal. Nobody came to ask us of we wanted a drink. Had to go to the bar to order a drink. Eventually somebody came to take a food order. Beef overdone. Ham tasteless and dry. Vegetables overdone. Roast potatoes solid. Universal gravy.

Four visits, and each one a bit of a let down. The service isn't what it used to be and they just can't seem to get the steak right. The prawn cocktail is fantastic though. Nice atmosphere and lovely garden.

We were staying nearby and fancied a meal here, having passed several times. The scampi was ok, the chips somewhat lacking in flavour. The pudding was a disappointment, containing as it did a number of blonde hairs. On raising this with the waitress we were not charged for it. Service was polite and friendly, and the prices typical of this type of establishment. The beer was ok.

Sunday lunch with friends. Good beer, great roast beef, warm welcome and excellent value. I can also recommend Wednesday steak night. Two beautifully cooked tender rump steaks, with all the trimmings plus a bottle of wine for only £20!

Visited today for a 2 course Christmas meal with a group of people. Good pub food. Plenty of fresh, crisp vegetables and salad to accompany starter (Brie wedges) and roast turkey dinner. Desserts looked tempting, too. We all sat together in the conservatory. Food was hot and service pleasant although it could have been quicker, meaning that some had to start eating before others were served.

Called in for a bite to eat with friends. Beautiful village. Lovely warm welcome in the pub. Restricted menu owing to the beer festival in progress, but the food was lovely. As was the beer. Nice clean toilets too. So all in all, I'd happily give it a ten out of ten!

Friendly attentive staff. Small choice of two roasts. We had beef, very tender. All vegetables cooked well and tasty. Comes with gravy on. Did a smaller portion for kids, still a lot! Kids menu - good choice, big portion, very reasonable £4.95 incl. ice cream. Good choice of puds. Choc Torte looked good.

Had a great steak meal here this evening. Two steak meals plus a bottle of wine for £20.00. I guess I expected a reasonable steak for that price but it was exceptional. The food was well presented and delicious and the wine was good too....

We'd just come back from a sunny holiday and too tired to cook so went for a local carvery. Not been here for a while but I wasn't disappointed. Plenty of meat served and plenty of fresh vegetables. Chef was great and chatty. Worth a trip out on a Sunday.

With three hungry kids and two tired parents at 8pm on a Friday night (and no food in the fridge) we walked through the doors of this lovely village pub! They made room for us no problem (even though it was busy) and the kids had the chicken on the children's menu (great value good portions) and we had a camembert sharing board (superb). This pub is exactly what it says on the tin, a good old fashioned village pub selling well kept beer and good pub grub at excellent prices. The friendliest staff top off the experience. Great antidote to your overdone overpriced gastropub ! Well done guys. We need to try your Sunday roast next
