We booked the kingway for our parents 60th wedding anniversary. What a let down!!! We were asked to pre-order our food to avoid disappointment on the night. We did this via kingsway facebook 1 week prior to our visit. They missed 2 of the meals out altogether when we arrived, and we had to tell them again what it was we ordered. One came out half way through everyone eating there's and the other didn't even arrive until everyone had finished. At first we was told that we didn't order the 2 meals that was missing, but after looking at our order request on kingsway facebook page, it was there in black and white. 3 of us had chicken which I can only assume they had started to cook it on the day our pre-order went in. (It was so dry and stringy, you could floss your teeth with it). As a way of an apology as they messed up, we were told that the 2 desserts we pre-orderd was free. You know things are bad when they didn't even ask us if everything was alright with our meals when clearing our plates away. They knew it was a bad night, and they knew they made a hash of it all, and steered clear of us. It was a night to remember, but for all the wrong reasons.

We visited the Kingsway last weekend with the hope of some great food and beers to boot, after deliberating the plentiful options on the menu we chose the flaming hot burger and spicy cheese topped hotdog.. Both these options came with fries.. Upon arrival the reality hit! A plate with a hot dog and a sprinkle of maybe a dozen fries looked lost at sea on the plate. A leaf of lettuce may have helped but this was not to be seen, the burger however came with a side salad... Unfortunately this arrived lacking sauces of any description. So when the waitresses asked how our meals where obviously we didn't nod with excitement and instead brought her attention to the issues, this was met with a giggle and it was passed off as this is what you get in the kingsway... So left hungry and thinking this was a single misdameanour we ordered more food.. A sharer plate.. At this point it wasn't worth offering feedback as it was a waste of our time, needless to say the sharer plate didn't change our opinion and as such we left, still hungry and wishing we'd gone elsewhere.. We're not massive eaters and this gives you an idea of portion sizes which are saver menu as opposed to hungry horse at beefeater prices. Sorry it is what it is

Drinks where cold and just how you would expect, met the managers while they where walking back in seemed very nice and where quick to take the kids upstairs after stroking our dog and the female manager (sorry name has slipped my mind) was straight back down and to work.dedication and hard work will pay off, all you guys keep at it and don't let negatives put you down.

3 families meeting for annual get together, lovely ambience. Nice and clean. Friendly staff. However we were very disappointed with food. Sunday roast was not worth the price paid. Very simple veg was dry, looked like it had been sat on the side for far too long. Prawn cocktail starter was served with brown lettuce. Also must have been on the side for a while. Wouldn’t normally complain but feel a new pub needs this critique to go forward and survive in this competitive industry.

Adults burger and chips was small. 1 kids meal came with wrong side and other kid didnt get their starter till after her main, once i realised and questioned it. Popped in for a quick pint. Was confronted by a loud and aggressive lady who was looking for ‘management’. The landlord arrived and pleasantly offered to assist with her enquiry. As I removed my coat due to the warm winter ambience in the pub, it became clear she had asked for the radiator to be turned up which she believed it hadn’t been. Despite calling all of the staff liars and boasting about how many successful businesses she had run, the landlord remained calm and promised to investigate and sort the issue immediately. The staff remained calm, pleasant and professional despite being branded liars and told ‘I know who you people are.’ Well done all, keep up the good work and stay warm this Christmas!

The choice of lager was fosters they had run out of the others...The waitress was lovely ... very apologetic and I felt for her... we got the chicken wings knocked off the bill but it should have been cooked... First of all the service was okay. The young girl behind the bar was pleasant and friendly. The food was okay in the main part. However, does the extra cost Warrant a visit? We have a spoons just down the road - so is it a justifiable expense? Not sure. The mixed grill was a slight disappointment. The rump was so tough I couldn't eat all of it. Mastication aside, I was unable to chew through this piece of meat. Maybe if I was Jaws out of James Bond I would have had more luck. The children's menu was good value and the kids scoffed the lot. Reminded me of the gannet society just before feeding time. So their food, according to my children, was nice.My wife's gammon was good - but the eggs over cooked. They resembled something out of frisbee anonymous.Tongue in cheek aside - food okay. Service good - justifiable for the extra? Depends if you want to park in Kirkby for spoons or prefer a secure car park.

Lovely decor nice table. Baguette very nice however I did think £8 95 for a baguette a little steep. Better value to have a meal but didn't want that .

As promised we are back for a second visit to this restaurant/grill. This time we are going to try a couple of dishes from their two for a £10 menu. I picked steak pie and veg whilst the wife picked her standard, fish chips and peas. She did once used to run a large fish and chip shop. My pie was delicious ( could eat that again ) and the mash and veg' was cooked to perfection, do recommend this. The wife said her meal was really good. beautiful white fish in a dry crispy batter and the chips were first class. Our thanks to the chef- you have gained two more regulars.

I've visited the kingsway a few times on the way home. Every time I go I get a different experience. It has been renovated and looks a lot better. The food is well pup grub and is not great. You get what you pay for I'm afraid there's a good sized menu and something for everyone. I've tried a couple of different meals and it's fair to say it's ok. I can't rave about this place nor can I sit and say it's rubbish. It's neither it's very neutral and is a 5 out of 10 restaurant. The staff don't seem to be attentive and they look like they wanted to be somewhere else. The food is ok, it's basic and is very much like microwave style food. It's clean and warm inside I can't fault the layout. So that's the kingsway pub in Sutton in Ashfield. I honestly don't think you'd be disappointed for value.

Wednesday 2nd of February. Checking out places for a Special party in April. Called in to the Kingsway for a coffee and to get a copy of the menu offered. Good service,Returned that evening to try the " Wednesday Carvery " . It was first class and at an extremely low price of under £5.00. The quality and cleanliness and service on offer we booked here for our forthcoming party. One of those places, local, that we always meant to visit, from now can see us as regulars. Thank you.

Went out with a couple of friends for a birthday meal, table was booked in advance. Pleasantly greeted and shown to our table, after that the service went downhill. We waited 15mins with no service because the lady who should have been doing it had friends also dining on the next table it would seem.I asked if we could have some menu's to be pointed where they were!I asked how we order drink to be told go to the bar! I checked this again to be told 'well, I could come to the table'.I sat down and we decided on food, the lady didn't come over because again her friends on the next table were getting ready to leave.Thankfully a lovely young lady came over and took our order of food and drinks at the same time. The food arrived and sadly were got the unhelpful lady again 'who ordered what?' we were asked. And then the plate was gestured for us to take them from her quite rudely. One friend is disabled and there was help provided at all so we had to intervene.Thankfully the food was nice and we all thoroughly enjoyed the meal. A real shame the service we got was very poor. If it was busy we could have maybe understood but it was the fact the lady's friends were in distracted her from the job.5* = food0* = service from the individual (everyone else was lovely)

We went for a few drinks and a carvery for our anniversary and birthday , made welcome although it was extremely busy . which was nice to see as the Kingsway is a lovely pub and we are very happy to have it as a local . The staff were run off their feet and handled it very well , they had ran out of meat for the carvery as they had a very busy day . But to make sure we were fed they gave us a 11oz steak and told to help ourselves to the carvery , lovely food cheeky chief but in a nice way he is a asset to the Kingsway

Fantastic, we've been before and were impressed, this time we were blown away!Foolishly we didn't book and arrived it was pretty busy but the waitress was able to squeeze us in.We ordered a starter of Prawn Cocktail and Wings. The Prawn Cocktail was delicious and the wings you were actually able to eat with a knife and fork. We then ordered a couple of steaks rare, they were cooked to perfection. We both had peppercorn sauce now my partner wasn't to keen and maybe a Diane sauce would be nice for some but personally I think the peppercorn sauce was amazing and had a real kick to it!The waitress was awesome and managed to locate some crayons ond paper for my daughter (who at the age of 2 can be a nightmare whilst out).A genuine 10 out of 10 for food and service thankyou.

We are reasonably local to this pub/restaurant and have visited here a few times. Its generally very very good (fine dining.?) but on this occasion its was not at its best. Im not going to criticise it but it just seems to have lost its edge. The food was, well; just OK. The staff who were on, were doing their best but they appeared to be run ragged. Im going to sit on the fence with this review. It wasn't the best experience I've had here. Lets just hope its a Blip...

We went here for a nice meal as a couple with a few drinks. We rang at 4.30 to book a table for 2 and we were told that was fine. On arrival there was a large funeral wake taking over the pub. As you would expect people were loud etc which you expect. But we would have liked to have been told about this when booking as we may have gone elsewhere and tried here another night. We ordered a bottle of red, steak and a mixed grill. The food arrived promptly and looked lovely. But..... the steak was so tough and not great tasting. The mixed grill had lovely gammon and lamb.... but the steak and pork were dry and chewy also. The fried eggs had been cooked far too long and were hard. The sausage was a poor quality almost like a chip shop sausage. All in all we were very disappointed in the food as friends and family have said it is great. We never complain about food (we just don't go again) but we felt obliged to on this occasion. In fact I think it was obvious with how much we left (and I never leave meat). We were given a goodwill discount and the manager was very apologetic. We may try here again but give it time to get organised.

I've driven past this place many times and always promised myself I would call in one day . The outside looks great if you can ignore the fag ends at the entrance . We approached the bar and waited and waited to be served. Just one lad serving and one girl putting away glasses . Eventually another lady appeared , huffing and puffing from the end of the bar to ask ' who's next ' we missed our turn and had to wait again . After sitting down for a while we decided to order a nibble to eat . Again another long wait at the bar and our order was placed. We waited 32 minutes for the food to arrive . I checked this against my receipt. The cone of 15 beer battered onion rings were missing the advertised BBQ sauce and were barely cooked . Swimming in grease , pale and soggy . We asked our waitress to sort them out and she returned promptly with now well done onion rings which still managed to be soggy !! I must add that the onion rings on the Classic combo were nice and crispy so I've no idea how they managed to cook 2 lots so differently . We didn't receive a check back so could complain again so left feeling robbed . We won't be back . Slow , uncaring service . Poor quality food and no atmosphere in the building . I'll spend my money somewhere else in future .

Having just had the Sunday carvery at the Kingsway Bar and Grill I have to say it was rather disappointing. The meal itself was rather dry with meat portions being considerably less than they had been on our previous visit. Staff were not particularly pleasant obviously going through the motions. Come back Fernando - all is forgiven.

It's been a month since we last visited the Kingsway and decided to make an impromptu visit on bank holiday Monday as it was such a lovely afternoon (4 adults and 2 children).First the positives....they have changed the wine menu YAY!!! A decent New Zealand Sauvignon on the menu and the Prosecco (which is what we had) was pretty nice. The staff from before (Tom is it??) gave fantastic service as normal - knew we were local and regulars, had a chat with us. Was a nice start to the meal. Then unfortunately the food side. The couple we were with ordered their food first whilst our kids were deciding what to have. They let us know that they had sold out completely of chicken and were having steak and a burger instead. By the time we ordered I'd decided to have the pie instead of chicken, got to the bar to order and was told they did now have chicken after getting from the other pub. I decided to have the pie anyway..however they'd sold out of that...so I had chicken (still with me?). They did say our food would have a 30 min wait (but unfortunately hadn't warned the couple we were with of this).Around an hour later the food arrived...it was pretty poor to be honest. The medium steak was 100% well well done, my chicken was annihilated and so dry and over cooked it perhaps had been cooking for the full hour and the scampi was average. The chips are the soft oily kind which I know people debate in the reviews. Personally I like them like that - it reminds me of fish and chip shop chips from the coast. Anyway apart from tje chips was pretty disappointing. In credit to the team serving Tom (if the names wrong...sorry) was apologetic about the wait and did compensate us for that. But having to continually compensate because the food isn't up to standard and the kitchen can't handle a few customers is not good business. In fact it's a sure fire way to go out of business. Your chef needs to get good very quickly....or unfortunately....So..in summary the good news is the service is still good from the original team, the drinks menu has dramatically improved so we are more likely to try again but the food is not good I'm afraid. You have got to improve it or you will lose the customers - this isn't gourmet Michelin dining, it's quality home cooked food. I hate to say it but it really isn't that hard. We will at some point try again but will wait a few weeks to see if it sorts itself out. Please do...we want to support our local pub.

Not been for a while so didn't know management had changed. Greeted well on arrival but that's because it was empty. It was just before 5pm on a nice sunny Thursday tea time. They gave us menus straight away, then we realised the tea time deals stop at 5pm!! What a shame they don't take note of Larch Farm (who also do home made food to a good standard) but always do 2 meals for £12 everyday. We had burgers. Halloumi & Cajun chicken. They were OK. Halloumi needed more chutney & the Cajun chicken had no Cajun but they were freshly cooked & enjoyed. The chips were weird. Three times cooked it good but when? Quite a weird oily taste hard to describe. Another Reviewer said similar. Service good, but again there were 2 of us & then 4 more arrived. We left at 7.45 & it didn't get any busier. £8.95 each main course is too higher a price at tea time with all the chains doing cheap deals at two for £8.49 so you've got to do something Kingsway to catch this tea time trade please, you're missing a trick!

Eaten at the Kingsway many times it has always been good so I thought it was time to write a review. It was a lunch time visit at 14:00 on Saturday 6th August. The service was exceptional and the place was very busy with a nice atmosphere. The music playing was Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground how cool is that. The food was outstanding, generous portions at a reasonable price. Definitely recommend

So an unplanned impromptu decision to stop at this bar and grill for lunch. It was seemingly quiet on entering but we were quickly greeted and shown to a table offered drinks and given a menu. The area was perfectly clean, tidy and respectable with a few people eating and a few having a lunch time drink. The service was very good, fast and efficient. The food order was taken and arrived quite quickly. As far as the food was concerned it was disappointing, what was described as a Madras Curry was bland, tasteless and uninspiring, there was little flavour to what could have been food from a can, there were no spices that infused the stringy pieces of what tasted like boiled chicken, which should have been marinaded in the herbs and spices to give an authentic dish. While these meals were of a reasonable size for the lunchtime special menu, they are an opportunity to provide a customer experience that would inspire further visits and customer loyalty, I don't think it did for me as a similar dish at Weatherspoon's down the road was of a superior quality. It didn't live up to my expectations sadly
