Friendly, family-run place. Pleasing food. Felt a teeny bit dated - not sure about the radio blaring Radio 2, and a slight pivot towards coffee etc and the addition of a couple of sofas might generate enough local custom to stay open Tues-Thurs. But a good place and good food.

It was a lovely meal, and the service was second to none. Everyone had something different and it was all so nice. A couple of our party had sweets but had to ask for custard and cream as there was only ice cream. The staff checked with the chef and 2 jugs of custard and a cream jug turned up promptly so service and flexibility top rated.

Have been here twice recently after a walk in the peak, excellent food and friendly staff , I tried the loaded fries which was brought to the table by the chef with a pat on my shoulder and a good luck message , didn’t finish it all but had a really good chat afterwards with the chef . Highly recommended

Fantastic! Martin, Jo, Jacob gave us a very warm and friendly welcome, attention to detail was brilliant regarding one of the party being celiac. Good choice of menu, quality food, served hot and good presentation. Wishing you every success! We will be back! Janet, Lyn, Bev and Linda

Welcoming and friendly service, just the place to enjoy a drink/bite to eat either before or after your walk.

Having visited this cafe a few times over the past year or so, and been happy with the food and service, I found today's visit very disappointing. Even allowing for the fact that the place was busy, there was no welcome, tables were not being cleared quickly and after around ten minutes waiting for service and seeing a couple who had just arrived being attended to, I was left with the distinct impression that my custom was not welcome. In the end, I walked out and found an alternative artesan bread shop on the market place which did a delicious, freshly-made sandwich and cafe latte at a reasonable price. I think today's wasted effort at Birds in Ashbourne will be my last.

I have been to this store many times for drink in and take out and been literally marched out as I had my dogs . My other regular costa was dog friendly as long as I ordered and then sat outside . This one eventually served me at the door. Almost every other cafe in Ashbourne allows dogs so why not Costa? I won't use Costa again .
