Wonderful little hotel, staff are wonderful 😀 very accommodating! Go the extra mile for you all you have to do is ask. Had evening meal and breakfast and both were wonderful! Very reasonable price as well. Hopefully booking alton towers again in October this year 🙏 if we do this is the hotel I will be back at without question

Called in after our walk, the staff were friendly and really good with our young children. Food was delicious and even impressed our very fussy eater . Thank you for the warm welcome, shame we don't live locally but will definitely call in again if on a walk in the area

Pre booked for my birthday, which they recommend, and although it was a Monday night it was starting to get busy, so it was a good idea. We had the mixed starter platter which was great then the gammon and the jalfrezi, both of which were fantastic. Plenty of food for a reasonable amount of money. The service was great as well. If we were ever staying in the area again, I would certainly go again.

12 of us were camping locally and wanted to find somewhere to eat. It was a Monday so many places not serving food. Had starters and mains but the potions were HUGE so we regretted the starters. Food was exceptional with a great selection for all tastes. Garden is lovely so nice setting to eat there too. Couldn’t recommend more.

We had a large booking for a family gathering after visiting Heritage woods to put my dad to his final resting place, we pre booked and ordered. The food was amazing and the staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough. Thank you all for helping make the day feel special.

Great pub food with local produce and generous portions. Excellent staff. Local to south Peak District places of interest. Nice rooms, lots of parking, big bar with lots of friendly locals.

Good- Able to book a table for mother’s day Sunday lunch. Staff were were pleasant Mothers ate free sweet Bad- Sadly we were not informed it was a carvery, the tables were not in the pub , but a larger room to the side of the pub. It was like a cattle market , one meal in quickly one out. The room looked like a canteen or big gypsy wedding!!! Very loud , very busy and not an intermit quiet mothers day meal. The carvery was ok , boiled vegetables and selection of pork or beef. Cauliflower cheese awful, nice gravy & good choice of sweets. Ugly- the bill !! Not an experience i will ever endure again , felt money grabbing get as many people through the door .Spoiled mothers day

Excellent food! Proper home cooked me. Extremely reasonable. We eat here as a family every 6 weeks. Can’t recommend this restaurant enough either for a date night or a family gathering of 12! The staff are always willing to accommodate.

Went on Thursday, which is burger night. The food was good, very large servings and the staff were lovely. Beer was also good. What spoils this place is the decor. It’s down at heel and shabby, and I don’t mean shabby chic. Also it was draughty and freezing inside. In urgent need of a refurb, or at least a good clean.

Great fresh cooked food the staff managed to get us in as normally we would book as it gets busy. We have visited before as they allow camper stopovers the food was of excellent quality and priced reasonably portion sizes are large. We had desserts last time but couldn’t manage this time but would highly recommend this as they are well worth having . The staff are always friendly and gives the feeling of home where everyone is welcome we will be returning and travel a good hour to get there it goes without saying this is a highly recommend situates in a great location.

Great place to stay if going to The Polar Express experience is only 15 minutes away . Freshly cooked bar food, warm bedrooms comfortable and clean . Very friendly staff and gorgeous cooked breakfast. Decor a little tired in places but did not matter one bit as the value for money, cleanliness and comfort by far outweighed that. Great Food Great Staff. Had great meal but be warned, the portions are huge. It was very busy but the staff did a great job. The lady who was running it was brilliant.

Stayed here during Alton Towers Scarefest & would be back in a flash! Staff were so friendly and super accommodating. The family room was perfect, there were 5 of us in (2 adults/3 kids) and still didn’t feel cramped which was great. Literally everything you could need (hot drinks selection, biscuits, shower gels shampoo) and even a bath which was amazing after a long day! We had a meal at night… portions were huge and food was delicious and well priced. Breakfast was amazing and they even offered to send up bacon butties for the two lazy teenagers who slept through breakfast. 100% recommend thanks for an amazing stay’

Stayed here for three nights - an enjoyable experience. Our room was bright, quiet and spacious. Breakfasts are perfect for the hungry traveller, especially the Full English. Dinners are reasonable priced. Plenty of atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff.

Food is lovely waitress was fine,bin four times this year. Three of the four were horrible. some female customers spoil it every time. Have to much drink and start swearing and shouting. Not just among them self’s Can hear them all over the pub. We were there for my husbands 71 birthday. Just made you feel very uncomfortable. Don’t think will be going again.

Staying in the area. Food was lovely. Service very friendly. Great Sunday dinner. Only downside, no spare seats inside if you only wanted a drink and the weather is too bad to sit outside. Definitely recommend.

We visited with our two (very) young children. We hadn’t booked but the staff fitted us in with an agreement it would be a quick visit (which absolutely suited us). The staff were friendly, the bar/restaurant was warm and welcoming and the food was great. The menu looked to be mainly pub classics but the portions were plentiful and everything was tasty. Reasonable prices too and good beer. Even though we went on an early Tuesday evening I’d definitely recommend booking as it’s understandably very popular

Just called in as heading back home . Ordered two starters and ended up with them as main meals. We offered to pay the difference but this was not accepted, as we did not want to waste anything as both meals looked so appetising. Absolutely lovely food and the service was fab. Chips are home cooked and everything was hot. Would definitely recommend.

Booked two king rooms at the Royal oak for an overnight stay , nice clean rooms , lovely breakfast , we asked for an early check in as we were attending a family wedding ,which wasn't a problem. would highly recommend.

Lovely garden for the children to play in for a start but then the food .... Not one compliant from the 5 of us! I work in hospitality and i can always find a problem, but this meal was lovely!!

We stayed for a week as we were going to Alton Towers for a few days, it was a great base as it was only 15 minutes away. We enjoyed the full English breakfast every morning, it was delicious and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was comfortable but a bit tired looking. Would definitely stay again though!

We were staying local and used this restaurant on both evenings we were around. We liked it so much we returned again. Thursday night is burger night with a drink £13. Huge portions!! I had vegan burger with Brie and cranberry and my husband had blue and black which is Burger, black pudding and Stilton. Don’t forget chips, salad and coleslaw. The Friday was fish and chips for 2 for £21. I’m sure we had a whole tin of mushy peas each. Lovely atmosphere but very busy. You must book.

One night stay - room needed a lot of attention. No where to hang towels, cobwebs hanging from bathroom ceiling, carpet, upholstery needed shampooing. Wouldn’t stay here again

A real gem of a place. We stayed for one night to do some walking. There is a great walk direct from the door. Every single member of staff was friendly and welcoming, the food is outstanding and so reasonably priced. Make sure you are hungry because you will be served amazing portions. The bar is cosy, and the garden is lovely with plenty of room for children to play. We would definitely stay again, but we unknowingly chose the cheapest room and would pay the little extra amount and have the king size next time, although the double was comfortable and spotless. I wasn't to keen on having a glass door between the bed and bathroom but it was frosted. The only downside of the whole stay was the traffic noise as it is on a main road, but obviously that is beyond the hotel's control. Perhaps the rooms at the back are much quieter. The hotel does everything possible to provide a marvelous stay.
