The Old Dog in Derbyshire Dales

Absolutely loved our meal here, we stopped in for lunch after a long rainy walk, greeted with a lit fire and cosy surroundings. The food was scrumptious, and I only wish our visit was longer as we were tempted by so many of the dishes! The staff were wonderful and so friendly. I would highly recommend The Old Dog and would happily visit again in future!

Without a doubt, the best pub Sunday lunch we’ve ever had! The meat was melt in the mouth and the vegetable sides were beautifully cooked and presented. We had creamy cauliflower cheese, gorgeous braised red cabbage and fresh tasty greens. All of the staff were friendly and efficient and the pub itself was so cosy and welcoming. A fabulous start to our holiday and would recommend highly!!

Brilliantly friendly service in a cosy inviting pub! Took shelter whilst walking the Tissington trail as the pub is just a few hundred metres off the track. Welcoming staff, great menu and swift service. Racine d for passers by or locals alike!

Great short stop on a miserably wet day walking the Tissington Trail, just off the trail a welcome respite. Amazingly friendly service and great food.

Lovely rural pub. Very busy on weekend. We eat outside due to dogs. Service and food was excellent. Reasonable prices. Parking excellent.

Really good range of beers and the food was amazing. Plenty of seating outside which would be lovely in the summer.

We visited today after a lovely walk around dove dale and tissington. A very cozy pub with a great outdoor area. When we arrived there were no tables available, the staff were really apologetic so we sat outside. After 10 mins or so they came and found us to let us know a table was available so we were able to enjoy a lovely lunch next to the fire. Really nice food and drinks with great service and a cracking location. Will definitely be back soon!

Went on the cuff as out walking and staying a couple of miles away . Made to feel really welcome with the dog . Great beers , great fire and nibbles spot on. We will be back when in the area

A charmingly cosy pub but with a nice modern feel. We didn’t book and chanced it with our dog on a busy Saturday. We sat at a small bar area table but it got a bit crowded and the attentive staff member spotted this and was very accommodating to move us to a better table. Steak and ale pie came out very fast and was delicious. A lovely lively place for food and drinks!

Only stopped for a quick pint which was lovely, the food that was coming out of the kitchen looked great. Will be back when next in the area to sample more.

Wonderful evening meal with my children. Two fish and chips and a steak and ale pie chosen from the new menu. Absolutely superb and a very good selection of beer! Staff as usual were excellent.

Wonderful pub! Truly some of the best pub food I’ve had and the service was so wonderful. Dog friendly and a lovely fireplace to warm up when it’s soggy outside. Highly recommend

Looked to be a really nice place but there is a very limited menu in the garden and it was too busy inside for our 3 giant dogs so we went elsewhere. Super location for a drink if you've been walking on the Tissington Trail.

Really lovely pub. The food portions could be a bit bigger but the prices are reasonable. Their beer selection is fantastic and there is plenty of room inside and outside. Dogs welcome. Great service too.

A very attractive pub, very conveniently located near to Dovedale, Ashbourne, Tissington etc. Staff were great, the service was good, atmosphere good. Very, very dog friendly. Sadly, the food was tasty, but the salad that came with the tasty burger was the smallest serving of Cole slaw I've ever seen, tasty though it was. I will go back, but I won't rush.

A great find in the Peak district, such a beautiful beer garden.

Popped in for lunch after a long roundabout walk to the stepping stones, lovely friendly staff. Good drinks menu and had a fantastic lunch menu. Dog and kid friendly. Glad we booked as it was busy and buzzy. We’ll be back in the winter to sit by the open fire and try the winter dishes

Been a few times and never disappointed but OMG we came today for Sunday lunch and this was the best Roast Dinner we have ever had. The beef was mouth watering good and all sides etc.. we're perfect. Would give this 10 stars if we could x

We visited on a few occasions before and the food was delicious and well presented albeit rather expensive. However on this visit, it was still as expensive but the food was poorly presented, really bad to the point I left the entire contents of the burger and made a chip butty out of the bap. I was given normal mayo although it was a vegan option. Not sure if it's a new chef or it's changed hands but it's night and day to how it was a year ago. Very disappointed

Stopped here twice (out and back) on the Tissington Trail. It is just a short walk from the trail (albeit up hill!). We grabbed drinks, crisps, nuts and cake, which was all excellent. The venue is dog friendly, very clean and has friendly staff. There is a choice is indoor and outdoor seating. We chose outdoors as we had 3 bike and a dog trailer, plus is was one of the hottest days of the year. The prices are reasonable and I would highly recommend it as a stop on the trail. Dog friendly, family friendly and great choices. Thanks!

Lovely food and great pints. As a dog owner the pub being very pro-dog is a nice touch as well. Highly reccomend!

A meal at The Old Dog won't disappoint. Me and my two boys have just enjoyed a wonderful meal. We had a couple of the homemade pizzas and a steak and ale pie. Excellent atmosphere and friendly and professional staff.

Great little country pub, very accommodating and absolutely gorgeous food. We visited on Sunday, 9 of us in total including 3 toddlers. We didn't realise there was a Sunday menu, but luckily there was something for everyone, including the fussy eaters. Children's portions were perfect for little mouths. The Pork/Beef dinners were something else; so nice! The desserts after... perfect. Couldn't recommend this place enough. A little pricey but certainly worth it. Great staff, very helpful and attentive.

High prices for average food, for absolutely no reason. Staff are slow and struggle to answer most basic questions

Take a walk round Dovedale and make sure you satisfy your thirst, with a visit to the Old Dog.

OMG what a great find. We popped in on the recommendation of someone and were not disappointed. The bhaji burger is amazing. We were lucky as there was room but reservation labels were on all tables so recommend booking in advance

Been here a couple of times and the food is great, albeit relatively pricey. Good service and dog friendly.

I had the old dog burger and that was amazing. The burger patty was cooked to perfection. I opted for the chunky chips but these were sub-par and came out as small crispy flat wedges with no real centre. Disappointing as the burger was so good.

Two delicious fillet steaks and two scrummy burgers, steaks perfectly cooked and really tender. Lovely desserts too, creme brulee and sticky toffee pudding. Very nice young man serving. Good place to visit.

Popped in for a quick drink as we were passing. Luckily the rain held off and we sat outside. Good job as the seating in the pub was all plain wooden seats and chairs. It was patently obvious that this wasn't a pub to get comfortable in. Pack them in and get them out springs to mind. Beer was OK though and the car park was big enough.

Really lovely pub, very friendly and the best steak pie I have ever had. Jam packed with steak! Really homely atmosphere. Gets busy so best to book ahead if you can. Tried the cocktail of the week which was a limoncello spritz, excellent.

11 person sit down catered for expertly

Two adults plus Labrador visited early evening to eat. Excellent service by a relatively young staff who were very efficient and friendly. Beer was great - Hartington Whim was a good choice. The sea bass fillet was excellent and if the rest of the menu is as good I look forward to trying it!

We have just been for a meal here and it was totally amazing and absolutley faultless. Such a lovely friendly welcoming the whole time we were there by Olivia who was amazing and such an adorable lady. We were also served by a young guy who was lovely too. I had Steak and ale pie and it was so delicious and was my friends fish and chips. I very very highly recommend. This is a dog friendly place too so my Lola is happy to have my leftovers. The is a beautiful seating area outside too which is full of character. The best xx thank you Olivia x

Had a pint in the courtyard, it's a lovely place

Fantastic food, and service was great considering how busy they were. We loved our visit.

It was very busy on Sunday. The landlord was very helpful in finding us a table. We ordered vegan Sunday roast. It arrived with roast potatoes, cumin cauliflower and Yorkshire pudding. We expected vegetables to arrive soon and the food was already lukewarm so we started. Eventually we asked for vegetables. They had been forgotten so they arrived when I had finished eating the rest of the food. Green veg nice but they also sent cauliflower cheese. First, this wasn't vegan as requested and second it was another portion of cauliflower. So I don't recommend the vegan option.

Most brilliant place, quick service, great food, Dog friendly. Clean rest rooms a good amount of seating outside. Its best to book on nice days can get very busy as it's on a walking route.

Stopped for a quick lunch. The outside menu is small, but the food was very good. I had the roast pork with apple sauce in a bap which included great crackling and my son had the beef. He said the horseradish was good. On reflection, he enjoyed it but thought the pork looked the better option. The service could be improved by a little more care and attention to detail, but overall I have no complaint as it was busy.

Lovely location. The food was poor and overpriced for what we payed. The drinks were expensive. First & last visit.

We stopped over for lunch and enjoyed our well prepared pub meals, served by friendly staff in a nice decor. Vegan options available, large terrace. Recommended!

Called for lunch on way back from tissington. we sat outside with our dog plenty of water bowls for him, and shade went in and ordered food from the bar. The service was quick less than 10 mins food was good

Excellent place. Haven't tried the food but hoping I will soon. Ales are excellent here with a good selection. Lovely staff is a plus too.

Lovely pub, just up the road from the stepping stones walk. The pint of Lukas lager was clean, and the sausage rolls (being a little expensive) were very nice indeed. Great place to relax with a warm atmosphere.

I was walking in a large group, it was a very busy Sunday lunchtime and to be fair the pub was packed, I had the beef dinner, it looked very nice but was stone cold, I asked very politely if I could have my dinner microwaved but the meal was replaced by another cold dinner, such a shame as I was really looking forward to it

A decent Sunday lunch at this popular updated old pub. Very friendly and efficient service.

Lovely pub near Dovedale. We went for a walk around the Dovedale steps and along the river and then went for drink to warm up. We loved the pub which had a couple of fires lit and was very warm and welcoming. There was a great selection of local ales and the barman made a genuinley excellent expresso martini (sadly quite unusual). We were in the area long enough to enjoy the food but all tables were reserved for that evening suggesting it would have been as good as our short experience indicated. Would love to return in the future.

Great pub, lovely owners and staff. Superb food, log burners, lovely country setting and outside for Summer. Winter nites and summers perfect all seasons. Reminds me of a french pub outside. Great atmosphere for xmas too.

We came here a couple of times whilst on holiday, first time just for drinks then we came back for an evening meal (having booked a table). Staff were super helpful and polite. Beer and food was really good too. Would highly recommend

Great cozy place to come over for few pints and food. We have ordered cheeseburger and it was great. Chips were just right, not them soggy ones. All of the inside tables for 3+ people were reserved. We had our food on small two person tables inside the pub. There are plenty of space outside. If not windy day we would be outside ourselves. Great service and atmosphere in general.
