What a treat. We had fish chips and peas today in the cafe. Every element of the meal was perfectly cooked and served on ceramic plate with proper cutlery. A very friendly service in a comfortable and clean environment. We will be back.

Just passing through Ashbourne with there lovely Christmas lights and decided to stop off athe chip shop we ate in 3 pies chips peas & gravy ,1 fish chips peas teas & coffees everything was pipping hot and good service will definalty go back

Don’t come here often but when I do, the staff are always friendly and the food is top notch! Fresh fish was beautiful and the chips were crispy and fluffy, just the way they should be.

Hands down the best fish and chips I have ever had. The haddock was amazing and so fresh. Very reasonable prices considering the current economy. The service was excellent and I even met the main man Alex. As a field service engineer I have sampled fish and chips from all over the UK and I can say with utmost confidence this is the best 👌 Can't wait to be back.

Absolutely gorgeous fish and chips. Haven't been for ages as I don't live in the area, but planning a visit to Ashbourne soon and this is where I'll be going for lunch.

The lad was a bit hasty with the order, but it was confusing with the weird vibes he was getting from our indecisive group. Cooked a fresh haddock for me perfectly, crispy batter, and flaky pieces of haddock in side. Chips could have been a bit fresher, but we were there towards the end of the night, so what would you expect. Good fish n chips from a great chippy

Best fish n chips ive ever ever had!!. Had the large fish n chips on Saturday 9th September 23. Had to wait about 10 minutes whilst it was freshly cooked. The portion was large. The chips were cooked to perfection in nice clean oil, with no after taste like some chippy's. The cod was cooked perfectly in a thin crispy batter. Absolutely superb. Went straight back into the shop and told him they were the best I've ever had. Obviously he thanked me and appreciated my comments. Well recommend this place. Andy Bryan Wolverhampton

Best fish and chips on the planet

Possibly the best fish & chip shop I've visited in the UK! I now travel from burton on trent regularly to visit, great for bikers as it is situated at the edge of a big carpark. Food is 10/10 on every visit, the staff are great and very welcoming and the prices are great for the quality & portion sizes! A must visit chip shop in the Peak District area!

Mind the step down on your way in. Really good portion sizes and menu selection. You can eat in, takeaway or, sit outside. Sitting outside is cheaper if the weather is right. Helpful beeper system when things are busy. Take the fob and when it buzzes/beeps your food is ready. Inside felt a tad dingy as not enough natural daylight and more steps to deal with.

See photos attached - olde world fish & chip shop & restaurant. Service was fairly quick, but they were busy. A call back system (card that vibrates) is used to take outside & wait. Can’t wait inside as the area to order is tiny. Fairly good prices - chips can be battered…fish was a good size. Options for children’s meals. No kebab meat. Would recommend.

Really tasty fish and chips. We sat inside which was nice. We introduced some international visitors to curry sauce, jumbo sausages, and they introduced us to vinegar on mushy peas! It was interesting to see they are gluten free Monday to Thursday.

Had the large fish & chips with mushy peas for £13.65 and ate it in the restaurant. The cod was massive and beautifully cooked, light batter and not overdone like you find in some chippies. Lovely freshly cooked proper chips and all washed down with a nice mug of tea which was only a quid when bought with a meal. 4.5 out of five and would definitely recommend.

Best chip shop in Ashbourne. Always tastes like fresh oil being used - non of that burnt oil flavour that I hate. Best chips are those you wait for, to be cooked. Lots of tourists use this place and sit outside on the benches to enjoy the meal. Good for a chat.

We have been here several times for takeaway and to eat in and have always found the food superb and service to be friendly, welcoming and accommodating. There's a cafe section to eat in and several picnic tables to eat outside. The food is very good. The family had fish, battered sausage, pie, halloumi burger, chips, gravy, peas, beans and curry sauce. It was all delicious and my daughter said it was possibly the best halloumi burger she had ever had.

Had dinner here while visiting Alton Towers with my family. Food was outstanding and very reasonably priced with big portions. Definitely be visiting again next time we are visiting the area.

We tour in our caravan and often have 'chippie tea' on a Friday! After years of very disappointing fish & chips, we were seriously at the point of not bothering again until....we gave this place a go. WOW, thick flaky fresh White cod, light non greasy batter which we devoured (we usually peel it of) and excellent chips. Faith restored. Well done and keep it up.

Stopped at Ashbourne town centre looking for a Café, much to my disappointment a fair few had stopped trading since the pandemic, fear not! Lucky for us we found this little gem of a Fish and Chip shop! The food was excellent and the price was very reasonable. The weather was in fine form, so we sat outside and did not have to wait long for our food to arrive, no complaints there! All in all a pleasing experience, will definitely return for more in the near future, well done guys and thank you!

Fish and chips expensive. Fish and chips came out pale and tasteless, very disappointed! Then having to pay £5:80 just for the privilege of sitting inside on a rickety dirty table and chairs and no table service wasn't great.

I travel 80 miles round trip to have the fish and chips. Eat inside and they are cooked to order. Not found any better than this place.

Very polite and friendly staff, had fish and chips with curry sauce, everything was cooked to order. Food was spot on and curry sauce was acceptable with flavour. Plenty of parking and you can either eat inside or there are outdoor picnic type benches. Not surprised at how busy this place gets, well worth a visit.

What a wonderful gem to find in a lovely little town, the food was absolutely lovely, we ordered 2 x fish, chips and 2 x plaice, 1 x chips, 1 x gravy (my god delicious), 1 x peas 1 x curry sauce, and a bowl of scratchings 1 x coffee, 1 x pot of tea, 1 x coke, 1 x lilt. Price just under £57, was quite a bit left over as we couldn't manage everything, which was a shame as it was absolutely gorgeous, so if you are in this area, only a fool would walk past this chippy.

This is my second visit to this chip shop as it's 50 miles from my house. Still the food was awesome and worth taking a diversion to get there. If you want fish or chicken to shout out for it to be cooked it will reduce the wait. The curry sauce tasted great and definitely worth the visit. The staff were friendly and made sure everything was okay and to your liking. Looking forward to my next visit.

Really disappointed. We've been to this restaurant for years and never had a bad meal but this was just bad. Wished I'd of taken photos because I could have counted the amount of chips I got on both hands....slight exaggeration but still. I dont think I've ever been to a chip shop and had to complain about the amount of chips I got. For £16 for 2 meals, I'm annoyed. My scampi was overcooked and soggy and so was my husbands minifish. What small amount of chips we got, were tasty, just wish there were more. And I'm not being greedy, we were genuinely gobsmacked by it. Best part was the curry sauce and gravy.

Pretty much perfect every time - freshest Haddock I have every had. Well worth a bit of journey - the best around.

One of the best fish and chips I have ever had. The cod’s scollops in Nottingham was voted in the top 5 in the UK all I can say they didn’t try the Market place which is half the price and a lot better.

Both take away and dine in is phenomenal. Being from the north east coast and spoilt with the fresh fish of Coleman’s fish and chips I’m a bit of a hard one to please! After visiting the area for a week before Xmas we ate here 3 times! Just managed a return visit and it’s as good as I’ve told everyone! Quality is bang on with fresh chips and fish is fresh lovely and tasty and a great batter. Clearly an experienced fryer. The staff are so polite! Always ensuring it’s immaculately clean and catering for any needs. Bumped into the manager once too and he was very attentive in ensuring we had the best experience. Thanks to all the Market Place team :)

What a fab chippy! I never even knew it was one until a few weeks ago, when mum and I came across it one Saturday afternoon. We'd had a look around a few of the charity shops and were stopping off for a bit of lunch. At first we were looking at how busy the cafe around the corner was, as they offered gluten free options. However there were quite a few people in there, so we decided to head around the corner and voila! Mum noticed Market Place Fish and Chips. We had a look through the window and noticed that they offered gluten free options from Monday to Thursday. We decided to ask about this and the young chap behind the counter said that they'd be able to do a gluten free fish, chips and mushy peas no problem, which was really nice of them. There was a bit of a wait for the food, but that's totally understandable as everything is cooked fresh to order so the wait is well worth it. The portions were super and there's no leaving hungry from there! They did a sterling job with the gluten free fish, chips and mushy peas for my mum (even got out the gluten free vinegar which was superb and much appreciated!) We sat outside with the weather being lovely and mild, but they also have a restaurant bit too for those wishing to sit inside. Was thoroughly impressed with Market Place Chippy and will DEFINITELY be back for more! Great food and great staff! Keep up the brill work! :)

love this place. Lovely fish and chips. Cooked in nice fresh oil. They even do gluten free days. They have a little café where you can eat your food or outside there is numerous wooden tables and chairs. They do teras, coffee and various cold drinks. The staff are all very polite and look after the customers well. You can pay cash or credit card. Very nice food oh also do burgers. The veggie burger is very nice. Lots of vegetable in it .Plus it comes with a very fresh salad.

An excellent,friendly, and top quality fish and chip shop!! On the evening we visited, there were loads of bikers and the staff were super organised. Not only that, but the fish chips and peas were really freshly cooked. The town centre is also lovely!

One of the best fish and chip shops around, definitely worth a visit. I know a few people who have been known to drive over an hour to go there. The family now have a fish and chip shop in Glossop too.
