Great vibes in the pub. Got there as they opened and the hospitality was fantastic. I ordered a coffee and they got the coffee machine up and running straight away. Service was friendly and coffee was very nice and affordable. Came with a nice biscuit as well. We just used the hotel as a pub as a meeting point to start our stag do. There was a couple ordering food which looked great also. Beer was great and there was darts and a foosball table! 10/10 establishment

Will not be back again, feedback added now i have signal. glasses were not properly cleaned so all tasted of dishwasher solutions, I know the person on the bar was new but after unsuccessful trying to request a cafetiere of coffee and a luxury hot chocolate from a sign above the bar and waiting for him to make a phone call to find out what a cafetiere of coffee and hot chocolate were then him trying to charge us for the drinks of the people that had just left the bar it kind of gave the impression that maybe he shouldn't have been left by himself. This used to be one of our favourite stops on a walk round this area after this visit we'll not be back again, we were going to stay for food but zero confidence in actually getting anything we ordered

Beautiful setting. Interesting range of ales for Greene King. The landlady was chatty and I really like that!! UPDATE: 27.05.24: Called in Bank Holiday Monday and sadly only us in. Another change of hands behind the bar? The cask ales weren't prepared and I waited 20 minutes for my pint. The staff were apologetic and offered the drink for free. For a Greene King pub it's not delivering what you'd expect but I wish them well in truly difficult times. It's in a beautiful location!!

This used to be good, I think. Under new and totally disinterested management, I'm told. Let's start with the good. My wife and I booked in for three nights. Our room was lovely, clean, comfortable and had a lovely view. Right, the bad stuff. When we arrived we were greeted by a person who asked our names and asked for the balance owed. No hello, welcome, how was your journey etc. It set the tone for our stay. At no time did anyone ever ask us how anything was. Our room was directly above the bar where music was played (live or otherwise) until at least 2300 both nights. Not much sleep for us. Every door in the place is designed to slam, waking you up. The kitchen, or the cook. That's what's really killing this place though. For the entire time we were there the kitchen door stood open with a notice on it stating it was to be closed at all times! Love that touch. Breakfast was supposed to come with toast. Never came. We had dinner that night. No promised relish with the starter. No promised mushy peas with the fish and chips. Lots of oil though - swimming in it. Lasagne was microwaved, clearly. Breakfast next morning - coffee was cold. The cook came in to tell the hostess he had 4 eggs left. He wasn't even slightly discrete! Again, no one ever asked how our meals were etc. We checked out a day early and asked to be refunded for the third night. We got it. No one asked why we were leaving early. Oh, our room was never cleaned during our stay. This is not a hotel. It's a pub with some rooms upstairs and an incredibly poor kitchen attached. Only one staff member made any effort (the only woman working there. You're doing a good job). I will never stay there again.

We had three very tasty and well presented tapas style starters. Gorgeous. Reasonable price. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. Seating is very comfortable. A limited number of real ales. Plenty of free parking. The new manager plans to slowly introduce even more exciting and possibly exotic meals. The hotel is ideally situated for exploring the countryside around. We can recommend this place.

Came here as part of my mate's birthday pub crawl, last weekend (December 2023). I think there was around 12 - 15 of us, and we'd been out all day, and came in from the wind and rain. A room had been set aside for us and the welcome was warm. The ales on offer were quality real ales, and well kept. Despite my pernickety nature (I know I can be a pain) the service was accommodating and always helpful with a spirit of can-do. And THE PIE we were served, was simply awesome. All served with low-fuss, zero-stress efficiency. Definitely a positive experience, and a pub I'd return to again with a gang of thirsty and hungry (and slightly drunk) mates.

I've lived in Grindleford for 16 years and been visiting the Sir William since before then. A few mediocre managers have come and gone in that time. Chris, Dan and John have literally transformed the place into a vibrant, friendly, loved community pub, with outstanding food. I'd go so far as to say it's the best food in any pub in the Peak District. I've not stayed in the rooms so can't comment on them, but the views will be second to none if you're above the beer garden. Talking of beer gardens, it's one of the best kept secrets locally. Tucked out of sight from the road it's a cracker. Every village should have a community hub like the Sir William. One evening we were in there chatting to a friend who declared the chips 'the best since Lima '72'!

Nestled amidst the breathtaking scenery of the Peak District, The Sir William pub in Grindleford offers an experience that's as delightful as the view itself. During my recent visit, the staff's warm and welcoming demeanor immediately made me feel at ease, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the evening. But what truly left me awestruck was not just the friendly service and mouthwatering food, but the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. As I savored each bite of the exceptional dishes from the diverse menu, I couldn't help but appreciate the pub's perfect vantage point to enjoy the stunning scenery. Whether you're a local or a visitor, The Sir William offers a memorable dining experience that pairs delectable cuisine with unforgettable views.

I recently stayed at the Sir William and had a great time. The food was amazing and well presented, and the views were stunning. The garden was also very spacious and had plenty of seating, making it a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. The room itself was comfortable, but the wall color was a bit too pink for my taste. However, this was a minor issue and didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the stay. The pub had a nice cozy feel, and the staff were friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. This is a locally run hotel bursting with character and run by a very friendly staff a rare thing in itself. My room was clean and smart, fine view, breakfast (veggie option too) lovely, and dinnersalso good. The valley is a great place from which to explore the area. Mention by some reviews of slightly tired decor in places to me misses the mark; the overall experience is perfect. We were just out sight seeing and saw the Sir William and thought we would stop in for a late lunch. They said sit anywhere so we sat at a big bay window looking out on the surrounding hillsides. Food was very nice, started with the fish cake which my wife and I shared and then she had the fish and chips which were cooked perfectly. The Sir William Hotel is the perfect location for a stay in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. Our room was really comfortable, had all the amenities we needed and was quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed a splendid dinner in the spacious dining room which has a beautiful view overlooking the Derwent Valley. I have recently attended a wedding at this hotel. The staff were extremely helpful even before we arrived. The views from the hotel are exceptional and make a great backdrop for the photographs. The garden, although small is very colourful and the gazebo made an excellent stage for a piano man during afternoon music. The food which was provided for the wedding breakfast and the buffet in the evening was second to none. The portions were enormous and the choice of buffet was far better than any wedding or function I have attended. A very big thank you to the staff both front of house and behind the scene, they clearly worked very hard to satisfy everyone and everything on what would have been a very very long day for them. I need my sleep, but I only got 3 or 4 hours because of traffic noise. I mentioned this to staff, who would not listen, and they didn't offer to move us, even though a quiet room was available. We hadn't been to Derbyshire before, but as two of the party lived there, it was arranged at this hotel which came strongly recommended. We were not disappointed. My husband and I stayed there for two nights and we couldn't have had better service and hospitality. The big meal was a total success with lots of choice, fresh veg and all mouth-wateringly cooked by the manager, Terry, who then provided impromptu entertainment with some fascinating magic tricks! It was definitely a night to remember,as we have been doing this for forty-odd years and we all agreed that this was the best dinner, we usually rate the night on the the amount of fun with the meal being of secondary importance. Went for lunch. We were made very welcome with really friendly and helpful staff. The service was good and the food delivered promptly and hot and all at the same time. The food was of a very high standard. The only downside was we wer sat in one of the bay windows which have stunning views of the valley but on a cold December day it was quite cool in the window seats.

We were a party of 9, meeting to hold a small wake to remember a good friend. We had booked in advance and a table was laid and ready when we arrived a little early.

We had a lovely evening meal here. My wife really enjoyed her Pasta main course and I had the Baked Cod in Parsley sauce. They were both delicious and really felt like proper "home cooked" food. The service was excellent and the pub had a really nice vibe.

Attended at Bank House today. Initially walked in to not be acknowledged at all. Had to ask a waitress where the toilet was as they would not speak to us. Then when going to order, I was stood at the bar area with my partner for approximately 10 minutes without being acknowledged again. The server behind the bar was called Tara and she was extremely rude. We then left and went to a cafe further down the hill where they had amazing service and lovely food. Definitely recommend people to go to the new cafe next door go outdoors!!
